He put out a video entitled “Talent is a lie” it was legitimately inspiring to watch...this didn’t happen without practice...all bs aside it’s all about putting in the work...
Actually the fills in the songs are not hard overall... it's one of the easier songs from MP... the problem is, when u watch someone watching drumming looks like wow this is hard, but overall the fills are pretty simple and repeating in different songs over and over...
Not to forget that all his videos are one single shot…no cuts or anything. I’m sure he takes several attempts to nail these but still…MAD respect for his skills and the astounding level of effort he no doubt put into his drumming
ESTEPARIO SIBERIANO puts small weight plates on his snare and floor tom to give it an extremely phat and and popping sound. It dampens all the snare ping from the head being cranked, but gets rid of that overbearing resignation. And makes the floor tom sound like a kick drum, but tuned up a bit for those mid pitched tom tones. He's fucking phenomenal.
Also increases the rebound which helps him get the super precise snare rolls (especially for his one handed videos!)

You can also get the same kick drum sounding toms by finding that pingy frequencies and scooping them out with an eq. If you don’t have weights and want the same effect. Personally as a drummer I’ve found putting clothes, wallet, anything with some real weight to it will have that dampened sound.

if you watch his "day in a life" video you can see that he's in a double walled room. It's a dead giveaway that this is artist's space (like The Music Bank for Alice in Chains, etc) or something he built himself but when you see someone open two doors and one of them is *T H I C C* then you have got not security but isolation.
Also he uses the Yamaha mic and dials it way down on his set with mutes and his insane control of dynamics. I watched a video on setting up the mic he uses and it's pretty wild. Worth every penny to buy up to that mic if you are going to do any amount of drum videos. You can stuff your kit full of pillows and it will still sound pretty good dialed in on the mic and it's accompanying processing unit.

@@Easypeck Personally, (budget permitting) I'd run one for each, put high pass on one channel, low on the other, each mic would be dual-left/dual-right.

He did a video called Mike Portnoy wrote the best drum parts ever. He did a reaction to Portnoy in his basement studio. Estepario would listen to a part...talk about it, then play it. The premise of why he loves Portnoy besides his chops was because he said he met a chick that wasn't giving it up. So he made a deal ...if he learned Dance of Eternity she would indulge . Obviously he learned it. Portnoy then jumps on in the comments and gave El Estepario a lot of praise and respect. Then Mike said he was glad he helped Estepario get laid.

This drummer is in monster territory and quite hilarious. There is another vid of him doing some awesome Spanish music while having a smoke. The 2 lb weight on the snare is just crazy, especially if you hit it with your stick in full down stroke.

My takeaway is that you don’t need that complicated of a kit to sound incredible, DT’s drummers use these big kits all the time, and this guy had a few extra symbols and a floor Tom and sounded just as good as Mike Portnoy (with a very unique style, loved it!)
Portnoy wrote it. That’s the hard part.

I believe you lose some of the details that a bigger gear provides. It´s a great performance, its the visión of the performer but nevertheless, with the big set you can enrich the sounds and the composition of the song

i never liked dream theater but i can appreciate the technical aspect of it.this drummer is the most original drummer ive heard in a long time. i know he makes a 3 piece sound like a 5 piece but i wish he would add another drum or two because his fills start sounding repetitious even though they are incredible. saying all this this guy is something very special.

Not only is he a massive inspiration in terms of playing...the value of practice, taking your art seriously... he reminds me that the whole point is to Be Happy. The joy in his playing... we can all learn something about having a good life simply by watching him

I am a true professional Drummer. Love speed. This gentleman has very fast foot speed. This is a unique and once you establish the foot speed with hand speed, this man is the best. I grew up playing Buddy Rich. The next phase is the quick move around your Tom's, floor Tom's is crucial. I would love to see him with at least a 6 piece ( two floor toms). He is still the best coordinated. I've seen others with extreme hand speed on snare. Corp drummers are absolute. I cannot believe he can't read music and has this gift. Let's continue to support El Estepario Siberiano and enjoy a God given talent!

First of all holy hell!! WOW! second , of all. I'm guessing the floor Tom sound he had going there has something to do with the fact that he some times used it kind of as a kick drum , seems like he can blend that sound to serve kick/floor purpose

This cover is from "earlier" in his RUclips journey (I say that but it wasn't even that old, just shows how freakishly impressive his development was in the space of like a year!) Regarding the floor tom tone here, I imagine he was experimenting with ways to use it as a fill-in for a second kick. Works great for that purpose but I personally don't like the tone when he plays it as a straight floor tom (I had the same reaction as you haha). But it just shows his level of creativity and he does nail it later on in his journey, finding the right balance. He can also get so many tones out of it, some of his tom fills sounds like he's going around the rack but actually he is only playing one tom 😄 very cool. For his recordings with the band Saratoga (I think I got that right?) he does play a full kit, he just does the small kit for RUclips and for the chops, so go listen to his studio recordings for his true power! 😁

I would say to anyone who is not a great drummer but is aspiring to be one, BASICALLY NOONE CAN DO THIS, ITS INSANE. If you're a kid definitely don't get dismayed by it, just be inspired. Just practice and you'll be this good. I'm a terrible casual player that just got a kit after 20 years of not playing. This stuff is magical to me. The dude featured in the vid has become my favourite drummer, not sure he's human though.

Insane drummer. But I would take Portnoy over this guy any day. I feel like this is comparable to Portnoy vs Mangini. Mangini (and this guy) is probably the better drummer. Better technique, faster etc. But Portnoy is the superior musician. He's so good at adapting to the song and what the rest of the band plays. It's not overdone, and it follows the songs.. feel and story.. Hard to explain, hehe. DT was my favorite band before Portnoy left. With Mangini.. it's not the same now. It's to.. robotic, static, emotionless...
