    The dude put out an amazing short video as a response to people accusing him of speeding up his videos. It was him playing one handed whilst holding a tablet with a stopwatch counting up to prove the video wasn't sped up and at the end he looks into the lens and says "if you people spent as much time practicing as you do hating, you'd be able to that, but you don't so you can't" or words to that effect. Just supreme talent.

    He has a video explaining how he manages to get that phenomenal sound out of an EAD10. The technique includes epic quantities of damping, removing most of the toms because they either block the sound or overwhelm it, and using crash cymbals as hi-hats. He does also do plenty of double pedal stuff but not for this song. Check out his "shorts" they are as outrageous as you'd expect given this video.

    I use the split finger grip all the time. I broke both of my hands and wrists some time ago and have a tendency to drop my sticks. The split finger grip on my right hand is something I switch to predominately on cymbal work so I don't throw my stick accidentally and primarily because of the great speed I can achieve for quick responsiveness on cymbals. By having the fulcrum between my fingers, I can use the other three digits to manipulate the back end of the stick faster than with the standard grip. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for sharing your view and impressions on this mad guy, Andrew. I'm a drummer, I've been following El Estepario Siberiano ("The Siberian from the Steppe" or "The Siberian Stepperian" in English) for a while and he was my 2020 drumming finding. I've never heard something this good with such a limited number of drum pieces. Incredible. It's too bad you can't follow his videos and streams on you tube since they're mostly in Spanish with the exception of some subtittles. In his videos he speaks about his different techniques, methods, his routines (this guy has been practicing 10 hours a day for the past ten years or so, every single day from 7pm in the morning, crazy routines). Another thing that amazes me is his sound signature and style. It's unique.
    Greetings from Spain. Cheers!

      @dtfreak 4 года назад +3

      @ach You beat me to the comment. This was originally recorded by Mike Mangini. Portnoy left the band 3 years earlier. This tune came from their 2nd album with Mangini on drums.
      From what I read, the problem with the sound on the original recording was that they tried to recreate the drum sound on Images and Words and used drum triggers.

    • @LeonHaselbach
      @LeonHaselbach 4 года назад +2

      @@dtfreak they definitely didn't use triggers on that record (they did on Images and Words). If so it would be the worst apply of drum triggers/samples in history. It's just a extremely compressed snare sound with a high amount of the bottom signal. They clearly wanted to get an 80s vibe of snare sound though. At that time his snare sounded live pretty much the same, too.

    8:10 you asked how many dudes like that are out there, to blow our minds.
    Two years later... none, not a single another one.
    And this particular dude keeps blowing our minds every new video.

    This guy keeps showing up on my feeds. This is the first time I have seen him use both hands while playing. One of my favorite videos he posted was the one where he plays with one hand while holding a clock to show he is playing in real time. Then he says people should spend more time practicing then hating. I've been a fan ever since. Thank you for sharing your thoughts...just when you think you have seen it all!!

    Ya know just by chance i have also discovered that fulcrum between 1st and middle finger. Its really useful to combat cramping or if you get a blister durin a gig and i find it way easier to do a one-handed galloping rhythm at speed
    Hold stick between fingers
    Close hand losely
    Rest tip of middle finger on stick
    Use base of palm and middle finger to control the bounce
    Flick the wrist and almost automatically 2 ghost notes follow

    This guy holds his stick the same way I hold a pen. Looks awkward but I write more comfortable this way. Kudos for drummer making me not feel weird now! :D

    I've only seen that fulcrum strangeness once before and honestly it makes absolute sense for maintainable agile speed now that I've watched it in action. Great video m8.

    The floor tom techniques he is using has been used by many drummers over the years. John Bonham and Buddy Rich to name a few.
    I am interested in the grip. Had a kid in marching band use it to play bass drum with that same grip. Never used it myself.
    I have seen several of this guys videos. He is amazing. Now I will go practice.

    "The Bearded Hobo" I believe --- I've heard him say that in videos.
    He's seriously one of the most talented drummers I've ever seen --- he's played 13 yrs I believe.
    Absolutely incredible

    i use that weird fulcrum sometimes, but mostly when doing alot of stick tricks, also i find it easy to get faster, tighter rebound like that

    Been subscribed for quite awhile from Canada F57 and love my drummers, I just found this dude too and my GOD i can seriously see this being one of those miracle career opportunities for him where dream theater or outkast suddenly needs a stand in drummer and he gets a call for a million dollar tour over these videos. Awesome, Neil Peart. ❤God love him❤ has rolled over in his grave or reincarnated into this guy's drumsticks...wow. Where has this guy come from.

    I spent a few months watching this guy doing covers but stopped because it bugged me at how tight his snare was. Sounds a bit deeper now and bearable. This is the best I've seen him. Great drummer.

    Great reaction video! Really enjoyed your reactions...similar to mine when I first came across El Estepario a couple of years ago. And yes, his double-bass-pedal action is top drawer! Loved the wee tasted of Rhys Montague Darby from his time with "Flight Of The Conchords" - such a great show. Those boys are top drawer too, and the two seasons of their show by the same name is some of my favorite comedy TV. All the best from the Prairies in Canada 🙂
