Morocco: Sights set on progress - Mediterranean journey | DW Documentary

- At the end of their Mediterranean journey, Sineb El Masrar shows Jaafar Abdul Karim her parents’ country. In Morocco, the two visit Tangier’s souk and its old city, with its view across the strait of Gibraltar to Europe.
Sineb then travels on alone. She meets an animal rights activist, helps out in a women's cooperative and hears the famous female "Hadra" singers in Chefchaouen, known as "The Blue City". After securing the right to sing in public, they have made female Sufi chanting famous far beyond Morocco’s borders.
Again and again, Sineb finds evidence that Morocco has its sights set on progress. The kingdom is undertaking an energy revolution, aiming to generate more than 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. For now, the Moroccan-made electric car is still a test project. But engineer Kawtar Benabdelaziz sees e-mobility as the future -- and not just in her own country.
Back in Tangier, Sineb and Jaafar look back on their travels around the Mediterranean. One thing is clear: its coastline contains multitudes. With its distinctive mix of European, Arabic and African communities, the Mediterranean’s richness lies in its diversity.

As a British citizen living in Morocco, you must give it a try but remember, although it's near Europe and parts of it are becoming very modern, this is North Africa but it has so much to offer and is truly beautiful and extremely interesting with the best food in the world
As an American I always like marvel at how people in Europe and in every other place in the world just live their everyday lives in a place with thousands of years of history. And they're just living right on top of it and along side it! A lot of the same alleys and stuff were probably walked by the locals or traders a 1000 years ago. It just seems so surreal. Same thing in Britain. I know a lot of British people find just like Roman artifacts while doing lawn work or renovations and stuff. And it's just normal to you! Blows my mind. Would love to live someplace with a history like that! My whole state was nothing but empty forests with no permanent structures at all until the Lewis and Clark expedition in the 1800s! And even then nothing was really built until like the 1840s. I can't imagine even walking the streets that predate the discovery of America!
Morrocco is the best country in Africa, amazing people, vibrant and colourful culture, delicious food.

As China's restriction, I have no chance to go abroad for travel, Morocco is a fascinating country for me.
Several years ago I had a job in Shanghai, which is a famous and vogue city around the world. The local colleagues are much richer than other people elsewhere in China. This advantage give them a lot of money and chance to go abroad. One day a colleague talked about his latest travel destination: Marakech, which is also a famous city in Morocco. His experience attracted me . He said the local people are very kind, the price and consumption level are quite low. It's comfortable to stay in such historical city. After that
I got interest of this amazing country.
I hope one Day I can break through the great wall to have a look in Morocco and other countries.
I hope you can too! You're always welcome in Morocco 😊

Really enjoyed this doco DW,i will make Morocco a place to visit on my journey, thank you as always, well done team.
Morocco is America's oldest ally. The treaty of peace and friendship was signed in 1786 and is still in effect. Thank you Morocco!!!
Come here because I was thinking about it, DW a US propaganda channel telling someone is progressing is a warning that a war may be waiting around the corner.
Yes, our nations are very old friends. I think America and Morocco will soon become extremely important economic partners as well. Morocco has massive phosphate deposits that we need for our agriculture. The US can supply Morocco with capital and technology to transform Morocco into the first green-energy (solar powered) industrial powerhouse of the world. I also dream of a day in the near future when Morocco will have massive chains of automated, water-efficient greenhouses in the Sahara, with solar-powered water pumps turning the desert into productive land to feed Africa and Europe.
What's America got to do with this video? Stop being so patronising or poking your nose everywhere... America is an occupied settler land and the agreement with Morocco sounds like a joke (British Irish and European settlers in America striking an agreement with other European occupiers in Morocco!!!!!).... Stay out please ...
In 1777.. All the best to America from Morocco
I'm going to Morocco in December and I am so excited. Thank you for this video. 😊
Just don't go to moutains. Like those two Danish girls. ISIS is alive and well there
how was your trip?
Just came back from Morroco..very interesting country.(peace from Indonesia)
The name Morocco comes from the name of the city Marrakech which was the capital in the past. Marrakech means "the land of God" in the Amazigh/berber language. Also what you called Moorish architecture is Amazigh/berber architecture that was exported to Spain not Spanish architecture exported to Morocco
or maybe from Moors
Very informative but brief.Had this documentary focused on some particular aspect/ segment of society,it would have been more entertaining and useful.
Capuring of shorts/ moments, their sequencing, editing, voice over has been carried out beautifully. Thanks DW for preparing and showing this documentary.
@@muhammadkarimahmed6706
Good documentary but very short and what I didn't like is that they are trying to spread a certain type of an ideology.
@@adilnourddine9747 moor or Mauri are Amazigh. Mauri meaning an inhabitant of ancient Mauretania Tingitana, the area of todays norrhern Morocco, partly Algeria. The indigenous people of ancient Mauretania, same as the rest of North Africa, except Egypt, are Amazigh, better known as Berbers.
Later on..Moor derived Mauri (an indigenious inhabitant of ancient Mauretania=Amazigh/Berber of present day northern Morocco, partly Algeria) became mostly a synonym for the muslims of western Mediterranean, Morocco/Algeria and Iberian local muslims.
I was born in Fes Morocco but living in Los Angeles for 36 years. Great video you have posted. Thank You
I really feel the vibe of Morocco ❤️🌍🇲🇦
as a moroccan, one thing to keep in mind that even region to region the overall idealogy is very different from one and another. north moroccans tends to be more conservative and traditional while more southern and inner parts like casablanca, marrakech, etc have become more modern and open minded
FACTS...you will see women hardly dressed in marrakech and Rabat you will get many evil looks for showing any skin other than face and half your arm.
True
I think of Moroccans as a very modern and open-minded people. I like most of their history, except for the Almohads and the age of Barbary pirates.
I would assume northern regions are more open minded than south regions like guelmim, tantan, smara etc...
But hate of certain minorities is common across the country
In Morocco, you can wear whatever you want, just don't ask other people to wear the same as you. You want to wear a biniki, that's your choice, but respect the others that are covered and don't call their choice a lack of courage.
No in Morocco you can’t wear whatever you want because harassers are everywhere and they are even vulgar so many women prefer to be safe than sorry
@@sumiben5211 True that! As a Tanjawi my female friends get harassed despite wearing the most respectful clothing. Nothing revealing or too "first word" as I call it, if you see what I mean. It disappoints me honestly.

I love the Maghreb countries. Something about the mountains of Morocco and Algeria calls to me. Beautiful people, landscapes, and culture.
Maghreb is not countries but a country. Maghreb is Morocco just like Egypt iq for English people Messer is the real name of the country. France named the region after a country name and westerns Follow them. The same way they named French fries which are not French

In the medieval periods, Morocco was known by its capital city; under Idrisid and Marinid dynasties, Morocco was known as the kingdom of Fes as it was their capital city.
When Almuravids took control of the country, they built Marrakech and made it their capital city. Morocco was known then as the kingdom of Marrakech. The origin of the name "Marrakesh" is disputed, but it is most likely from the Berber words amur (n) akush"Land of God", from which Spaniards derived Marruecos and Marokko in dutch . In English, it is spelled Morocco and in French Maroc.

Why not instead of charging the electric car at charging station, just replace the battery instead? I mean the station provide full charged battery, the customer give them the depleted battery and pay the service. The depleted battery recharged to be given to the next customer. This will save cost and time.
lol because batteries have a lifespan, you can't just simply replace an old battery with a brand new one or vice versa , also every car has a different kind of battery compared to another brand
