Love your comparison between Iceland and the South Pacific Islands when it comes to myths and stories. We are not so different, although of course there are differences. The pictures you show of, among other things, a turquoise sea and deserted beaches are fantastic. I also like the way you move around in your investigation. That way, you get a better feel for the place you are in in relation to nature and what it has to offer. Looking forward to the continuation of your journey :)
Fantastic channel, As a geology student I would like to answer the coral question. These island are mostly basalt seamounts a they worked perfectly as a carbonate platform during last glacial periods when sea level was higher. Hey James, thank you so much for your sharing of your boating lifestyle and these amazing pacific islands that most of us will never visit. Solo sailing such distances takes a lot of guts. I was so impressed by your successful passage. I have a couple of questions and suggestions if I may. I was trained as a video editor/story teller many years ago… retired now. Is there a reason you have almost zero footage of the people on these islands? It would add so much value and interest to your explorations if we could see some of your interactions with the locals. Perhaps, if they’re willing, some mini interview of some of them. Most people love the opportunity to tell their stories and talk about themselves and their lives. Perhaps find one the local chaplain of one these many churches and ask him about what living on these remote motuls is like for his parishioners. Don’t get me wrong, I love the hand held footage of the landscape as you’re walking about. Loving it. Although I would also suggest including more closeups of some interesting details such as the closeup of these green bells flowers you showed us at one point or the markings you saw in the coral floor. For instance some closeups of whatever was attached to those palm trees you walked by, or the flyers that were posted on the community bulletin board that you also walked by… What kind of information is considered important to post on this tiny community bulletin board? That kind of stuff and details would bring so much more depth and interest to your storytelling and exploration. As a rule, about a third of your footage should be closeups revealing details of the story you’re telling. Anyways, these are mere suggestions and you may do with them as you see fit. Thanks again for taking us on your adventures and discoveries. ✌🏻

Question- the French Polynesian islands you have visited so far seem very quiet and not a lot of people. Do you know the estimated populations? Happy sailing!
Another awesome episode , it looked pretty sketchy manhandling the outboard into the tender when your getting tossed about like that , is there any way to attach a safety line to the outboard via a carabiner and tied off to the rail below the solar panel ? I dont know if it would get in the way of getting into the tender but would be a safety redundancy until you have it secured tight to the transom , then just hook the carabiner to the rail till you need to reverse the process . it might drop and still get wet , but it at least won't drop 20 ft odd down .
Any line attached would just get caught on things and tangled, and lowering it would send it swinging and could smash the motor, boat, dinghy or solar panels
Ahoy, Nice James Could you use your main sheet to lower your motor? Funny story did that with no wind between lanai and Molokai But on the back of the sailboat for trolling.😅
