Thank u for doing all the extra work it takes in order to bring us along with u…wishing u full sails!! We really enjoys ur videos..well done sir…well done indeed ⛵️
It’s vids like this that have inspired me to buy and restore a rival 32 now with 165nm under my belt single handed I truly appreciate your skill and prowess showing me that nothing is impossible, love to you and Rhonda
I might have a big ego after all, but damn how happy I am to read : « and thank you the viewers !» in the intro ! Of course creators need more support than just viewers -and I thank ALL your Patreons for helping you and allowing me to follow your adventures... but I feel less guilty not being able to pay . So THANK YOU ! I love your nonchalante intelligence, your pace, your free spirit , the absence of fake smile- Rhonda included. As Montaigne said : « His quick wit gave the lie to his nonchalant demeanor. » 🧡✨
Almost half of my income comes from ad revenue from VIEWERS like you! So it does help me a ton for all of you who watch the videos so I am indeed grateful for the support 🙏🏻
Nothing but respect!!! My top 5 sailing channel ever!!! I have VHS tapes I recorded of The Sharards from the 90's. What you and Rhonda is doing is my dream! ❤
I've watched your show for a few years now. As an old piscian, I feel you. This video is the best I've seen yet.. The camera work you guys have done, It brings back memories of the sea . I'm a pisces and you guys are in my realm. These camera shots of those areas , were really awesome. You two, absolutely captured the essence of that place. Safe sails and enjoy the dream...... Mojave90 🦀
Hello James, thank you for refreshing my memory learning new things too. Hope you've had relaxing passages with capable sharp crew to share the passage keeping. Fair winds!
Hi guys, love your work, I used to have a 45ft wooden boat and have spent many months at Percy Island tied up in the hole at the entrance to the lagoon, very snug spot but doable. 😅 lots of interesting history there.
That was so good, one of the best videos you've made, one of the most terrific places you've visited. The energy from you both, and the area, really was flying 😃 It was quite touching to see all the sailor's mementos, and to watch you place one from you, Rhonda and Triteia in the old shed. Loved the moody weather and sailing in the first part of the video and the melancholy music was just perfect, for a moment i thought I was watching a drama/film. Congrats on making such a wonderful video.
Enjoyable episode. Middle Percy is a highlight of any east coast cruise or circumnavigation. There’s a great hike up to homestead. In 2019 the owners warmly welcomed us. By the way crocs rarely get out that far from the mainland.
I much enjoyed your reference to the Hiscocks. Eric Hiscock's books inspired and informed me before I started ocean cruising in 1970. He made a movie of his circumnavigation (2nd one I think) called Beyond the West Horizon which I think can be found on RUclips.
Hey James and Rhonda I've given up sailing north this winter nothing but east coast lows and engine problems have made me head back to sydney..still at least you can get things done here and the public transports good
Thanks for another great vid. Just watched the live and liked your comment that you make content that you would like to see. Just so happens that I like it as well and no surprise many others do. Keep them coming, they inspire and entertain.
Great footage and gorgeous island. I think that far off the mainland is low likelihood of crocs but I'm with you, I wouldn't be swimming in amongst mangroves at that latitude.
James, you are going to hit the top end just in time for Irukandji season, make sure you have a stinger suit on if you go swimming and be careful when you pull in your anchor. Make sure you have a couple of large bottles of vinegar as well.
I think you should keep sailing around Australia and go back to Hobarth 😊 ... enjoy in solitude of southern latitudes and cold. What would you do in a messy part of World in front of you 😊? But that's just me. Regards from Adriatic (tourist eaten land and sea 🙃😉). You have such good life, keep it rollin'. All best
In the 80s the owners had a roughly 37 ft pearl lugger in that lagoon and sold, or traded for work/diesel, pig and goat hides as well as veggies and the wonderful honey. Later, in the era when the island became a part of a drug smuggling route things got interesting too. Curious, did you notice if there were any other plaques post mid 1980s in that smaller original historic shed other than yours?
It's OK Rhonda, about crocs. They're "Maneaters" so you'll be fine. And according to Ben Fogle, English adventurer, a study was done with Nile River crocs, to prove that the surface is the kill zone. Once you're under the surface, you're OK. They are confused when someone is down below. And I believe everything I read. 🤔 Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Great episode, guys! :) At 17m20s you can see the propellor from our yacht "Moonshine" hanging in the Yacht Club. The missing blade is in the bottom of West Bay. Happy travels to you both. From David the bus driver on Maggie Island :)
I was just thinking, NOW, she's the famous Kiwi hanging out with the American on a sailing boat somewhere along the Australian coast. Having a little fun but you've got to admit, its a big change ! So, do you use a cellphone gps or some other gps as an alarm for when you move like that ? I have it on a Garmin, it will tell me if I've moved. Wow, Percy Island Yacht Club just gave the video a very nice tropical feeling. That hidden bay was amazing ! Talk about a hurricane hole, that would be one for sure.
I find it so fascinating that the majority of your life is between destinations which is .... I really can't find the words other than fucking cool as shit. Deep stuff man. Keep living the dream cool breeze 😇
Very cool place!🤘Loved hearing about the history of the island and seeing all the plaques from former visitors over the last 60 years. It was also crazy how much difference there was in high vs low tide. Never would have thought you could travel that far back into the mangroves by boat where there was practically dry land before. Thanks James and Rhonda for sharing your adventures with us! Fair winds my friends! 🌬⛵
Oh this was a real Nice Long Video! Thanks!! For the first part, Ive never SEEN so many "shades of Gray", yeesh. That place was SO interesting seeing all the things people had left. I kept thinking- Youre Famous, Please Leave something! You left honestly one of the the Best Things There! Too bad youre not real big on fishing, looked like some Mangrove Snapper were hanging out . Never heard of those Fox things- I was hoping they WERE Foxes, ok 🦇🦇. They must be used to the noise to sleep. PLEASE get a Close Up Zoom Lens the next time you buy a Camera? Hey California Boy ~ ya did a Great Mathew McConaughey imitation !! Alright, Alright ALRIGHT! ⭐
You should reach some better weather as you approach the north, mind you it will be idillic some of the islands you will swee as you are travelling to asia. all the best
What is your time frame.. what date was this video made..I am at Port Douglas north of Cairns.. what would your ETA be to arrive in this part of North QLD… Rodney Centurion Ii olde Broome Pearl Lugger
One of your very best. Great sailing footage and real world exploration rather that tourist lures. Thanks and fair winds
super stoked on this episode, it’s got everything I love about this life in it !
really dig the beginning part with the instrumental music, the rain and waves. The solitude, calming to the viewer. Good stuff.
Really like your backing music on long runs 👍🏼. Very fitting 👍🏼❤️
Thank u for doing all the extra work it takes in order to bring us along with u…wishing u full sails!! We really enjoys ur videos..well done sir…well done indeed ⛵️

Awesome scenery at sea and I loved when the string music entered at about 8:40
great music great ep. Love the rain and wave sounds
Thanks 🙏🏻
Enjoyed you reading the passage from the Hiscock’s book. Doing so on the same spot made history come alive for me. Great video!
Wow that was cool to watch, the boat was moving pretty fast, you two were on your game , thank you for sharing, stay safe
Nothing but respect!!! My top 5 sailing channel ever!!! I have VHS tapes I recorded of The Sharards from the 90's.
What you and Rhonda is doing is my dream! ❤
The Shards invented this entire format, most people who watch big RUclips channels have no idea. They were my earliest inspiration also!!!!
I've watched your show for a few years now. As an old piscian, I feel you. This video is the best I've seen yet.. The camera work you guys have done, It brings back memories of the sea .

Seems like a very well protected hole
Another great vid, I especially enjoyed the footage taken at the beginning leaving the anchorage.

Great footage and gorgeous island. I think that far off the mainland is low likelihood of crocs but I'm with you, I wouldn't be swimming in amongst mangroves at that latitude.
Well done on this video.
Learned more about the island and its unique history 👍

RUclips is not in real-time 👍🏻 we are clearing out of Thursday Island today

Only saw very old ones and a few from recent years in the Telephone shed
Epic
Loved the arrival music. Very unusual for a sailing visual but it worked! Also hearing about the Hitchcocks was a bonus. Great episode you guys!❤🎉

An Australian friend of mine has seen several underwater and said they never paid him any mind
@@SailorJames But you still won't get me in there. Even freshies, although not aggressive, can give you a nasty nip.
Hahaha Crocs 🐊 no second chances… eeeek they scare the crap outta me!
@@LoveGrubGalley yeah, me too. The only ones I've seen for real, were in the Tarongo Park Zoo. They looked the size of a small bus. Atb.
@@SailorJames and in NZ English, you mean "ignored" him. However, I don't plan on testing the waters. (Pun intended.)
I started watching your channel back before you left for the trip around the world..thanks for not sugar coating it and I've learned alot thanks..
Thanks for still checking out the videos after all these years 🙏🏻
Really Cool Folks 👈🐬🐬💫💫🔱🔱
Great episode, guys! :)
At 17m20s you can see the propellor from our yacht "Moonshine" hanging in the Yacht Club. The missing blade is in the bottom of West Bay.
Happy travels to you both.
From David the bus driver on Maggie Island :)
Such a rad place!! Haha that’s awesome, probably not so awesome when the prop popped however!! 😅
I'm getting sea sick and I don't usually get sea sick in those swells/ anchorage
😂😂😂

Water at the 43min mark is gorgeous!
Really beautiful!
Love the Triteia plaque! 🩵⛵️ What a cool place. The reading was wonderful, thanks James! Much love to you both, be safe.🩵⛵️💙
Thanks 🙏🏻 we were super happy with the plaque !
EXCELLENT !!! …..but something about those mangroves gave me the HeeBee GeeBees, and we know how painful that can be.
They are spooky in Croc Country for sure!
⛵ ❤
On yalls passage you could heave to a go swimming. That would be a first for Rhonda
Unlikely to have calm conditions on our next passage
👍
Ols Sea Dog was there only a few months ago
Ive been subscribed a while now. Im unsure why Im not getting your videos in my very short list of active posts, when they get on here.

It is an interesting life indeed!!!! so different than the life I lived on land!
Those 2 boats in the lagoon can be seen in the same spots on google earth. Makes me wonder how long they have been there.
The one in the mangroves we watched drive in through the gap from the anchorage and tie up
Tell us more about your sail setup as you move through these weather patterns

Little known fact; thats the exact beach Captain Cook dragged The Endeavour onto to fix a big crack in it's side! I'm jus shit'n yuh!
No its not, thats in Cooktown, which we also visited
What really bothers me - do you have a Hobgoblin and if so, what’s his name? 😎
Have you just improved your image quality? They are looking gorgeous.
I have been shooting in 4k for most of Australia
