  • Hey, It's Brett Here (@mrbrettsummers on other ig/tik Tok) and I just wanted to encourage you for one minute. I'm writing this on April 25th 2021 as I've watch this video pick up traction and had a lot of great responses from it. Not that you need it, but I want to give you permission to start your gym/fitness business NOW! Start with humility and don't bury yourself under unnecessary expenses.
    Keep you expenses low and build your brand by GIVING & SERVING your clients. Yes, you'll need some creativity, but that extra resourcefulness is exactly what will make things seem easy later on when you've stacked up a ton of dough-dough bird.
    If you have more questions, hit me on IG @mrbrettsummers or through my business acct @toplinegym so I can shoot you some quick pointers.
    I've got nothing to sell you as far as a product. I'm doing this for free because I want to help you, like I wished someone did for me in the beginning. Love ya'll and get after it. -Brett
    Video Breakdown:
    For starters…I WOULD NOT BUY A GYM…
    BUT here is what I would do:
    1. Plan for the next 6 months of 2020 or 2021 or 2034 or whatever year you are seeing this!
    2. AND TRAIN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE!
    & HERE’S HOW!
    1:40 If your goal is to help people lose weight…I would not buy a gym, I would not sign a lease, I would not buy big bulky equipment
    6:41 My number one goal as a personal trainer would be...
    11:23 How to start thinking ASAP as a personal trainer
    13:30 How to start if you want to be a strength and conditioning coach
    17:40 Inexpensive equipment to start with
    23:25 Don’t do It alone because…its like chewing on glass!

    Ok, I just found this video but it is VERY similar to what my wife did and now we own a success fitness facility that is boot camp only. Our numbers vary between 100-135 campers a month. Your business sense is spot on and we literally followed this exact plan without ever hearing it lol

    • @BrettSummersGym
      @BrettSummersGym  2 года назад +2

      That's too funny! We must def be on the same page with our thought process. And with those numbers your camp is putting down, you are operating a very nice and successful business. My only reminder is to continue to invest your cash flow into either hard assets in the gym or real estate so that you can Hammer the tax man. You can always go to the bank and refinance against your equipment and use the cash flow from the camp to handle the debt. :)

    Hey Brett, I'm curious about your take on my situation. I'll be out of the military in about two years and at about the same time I'll have graduated with an MBA. From what I've heard from others, and what I believe you may have hinted at, is the danger of a personal trainer or fitness enthusiast opening a gym out of a passion for working out and helping other people get healthy but are not prepared for the realities and dirty work of being a business owner. For me on the other hand, I live for business management, the finances, "balancing the books" as you mentioned. I also happen to love fitness and have coached athletes in baseball and tennis. I know I want to own my own business so it might as well be in something that excites me right? Does your advice change at all in my situation or would you stick to avoiding opening a gym? I really appreciate any insight you have for me!

    • @BrettSummersGym
      @BrettSummersGym  3 года назад +13

      Too be honest, without even meeting you... It sounds like you are a clear headed thinker and "know yourself" better than the majority of want-trepreneurs... that being said, it wouldn't be a horrible idea to pull the trigger. As long as you know you will need to be a leader and build a team of people who can execute the servicing of the clientele while you work "on" not "in" the business you will be solid. Start small, with the vision to go big. Allow it to grow organically and don't expect anything to be easy because it won't be. But watch this video again, you'll notice how my numbers were on point. I focus on: leads, sales, service, referrals, build team, repeat. Hit your numbers. They won't lie. Service clients, they'll sell for you. And provide value online with content like this and people will get to know-love-trust you and it will position yourself as an authority in the game. Hope this helps. Hit me with more questions on my IG @mrbrettsummers

      Same way I describe in the video to be honest. You need proof of business viability. Can you (as an entrepreneur) create enough sales and deliver a high enough level of service while maintaining the back end up the business and continuing to grow as a business leader to the point to where you can afford the equipment and space. If you cannot do that, I'd suggest reducing your risk and renting space from another open minded gym owner like me who now has solved the problem for trainers and coaches who want to have their own business but can't nor want to save a quarter to half a million dollars to open their own space but allowing them to rent for the small fee of $1,500/month. -Brett

Close 10% at $1,500/yr (100 x $1,500 = $150,000). Go Hustle. Work from 9am-9pm. And then when your done, study accounting, tax mitigation and leverage. Invest in assets and marketing and promotion. Hire an assistant to clear your plate so you can promote and sell and serve 12 hours a day. You don’t have trouble getting clients. You have trouble doing the million things you can do to get clients. Turn off your phone and go make it happen. It’s Saturday. Everybody’s slacking off today. Great video for ways to get started as a trainer! Helpful for many...However, this had nothing at all to do with your title - "HOW TO OPEN A GYM". Good advice though.

    • @BrettSummersGym
      @BrettSummersGym  3 года назад

      Hey Sylvester, I think you are missing the point. It has EVERYTHING to do with opening a gym. To open a successful gym you need: money, clients, experience, knowledge, and viability in your methods and concepts. So in order to open a gym, you’d have to acquire these things. This video explains how to obtain what’s needed to open the gym. I’m essentially trying to dissuade you and others from
      putting the cart before the horse and making mistakes which would cause your “gym” to go out of business. Worked for me, I’m heading into my 14th year and I’m only 34 years old. Hope that helps you see the point of this piece of content -Brett Summers ( @mrbrettsummers on social )

    • @sylvesterterry9781
      @sylvesterterry9781 3 года назад +1

      @@BrettSummersGym Not at all. The advice in the video presents ways, methods, and strategies towards how to build clientele, gain traction, earn money, build rapport, creat incentives, and grow without owning an actual gym. It presents a way to have a successful fitness business. That seems to be the main point of the video. However, as I mentioned earlier, he never covered the steps towards the title-"HOW TO OPEN A GYM".

    • @sylvesterterry9781
      @sylvesterterry9781 3 года назад +1

      @@BrettSummersGym Also, to add to.my recent response, steps to be considered may include: finding a space, knowing your area, costs for equipment, cost for any fees, laws, legal factors, zoning, health department per state considerations...etc..there's more of course. Again..I'm not knocking down the video or information passed. I'm just pointing out the lack of the "HOW TO OPEN A GYM" information that was not covereded. That's all.

    • @BrettSummersGym
      @BrettSummersGym  3 года назад

      @@sylvesterterry9781 That's fair. I agree with you. I have a full series on opening and expanding our actual gym that will hit those points better. This video explains how to do what's necessary to actually end up with a successful gym after laying down the foundation. Hope you have a great day and thanks for tuning in and your attention. As well as a thank you for the engagement.

      Sure. Looks like this comment is two months ago. Question: How does a new trainer build and scale a fitness business while transforming into the technological advances and innovation of the future? Also what is the demand for physical gyms in the next 10 years-20 years? Will gyms continue to be in demand and how to build one to be in demand if I prefer this over some online business because i simply enjoy In person communication.

      Nick this is the silliest thing I’ve seen in 2021 so far. I know this to be a false statement because I’ve done it. This is a comment made from a scarcity mindset. The kind of mindset that deals in limitations and lack of abundance. This mindset will never earn, keep or multiply wealth and will only keep you as a victim for the rest of your life. Hope you change this mindset so you can experience what I have and continue to enjoy in this life. -Brett Summers
