*edit* people commenting about the sponge, I worked it a lot, I edited out about 5 minutes of me “working” it, and it just didn’t work for me. Hey everyone! I didn't thank her in the video in case she wanted to stay annon, but I want to say a huge thank you to Cassandra Bankson for sending me these products! Please check out her amazing channel and super informative skincare and beauty content! - ruclips.net/user/DiamondsAndHeels14
I loved this review. I feel like a lot people weren’t looking at this brand for what it’s suppose to be. The point is to enhance YOUR beauty. Not full coverage foundation, not blinding highlight. It’s a natural beauty makeup brand.
Lala Gabrielle and natural beauty/lighter coverage is really starting to be the trend to where makeup is going, especially with Covid and having to wear masks everywhere, most don’t want to deal with that full full coverage right now.
It's always so funny to me when people say things like "Selena has nothing to do with makeup"... Like, do ya'll think the people who own Sephora for example are in this business because they have a huge passion for makeup? It's a business. They're in it to make money lol. The same goes for brands like Dior, or Gucci, or Morphe etc.
Imagine what music artist think about youtubers becoming music artists like makeup gurus think they own all makeup and think they can control everything in the community
Has it occurred to you that there’s a difference between mainstream, unaffiliated brands and influencer or celebrity brands? People judge the brand value of most goods... whether it means luxury, quality, dependence, whatever. If a brand, company or product is affiliated or connected to a certain individual then of course that additional factor comes under consideration for many people. For Gucci or Dior it sells because luxury name + sometimes quality. For rare beauty it sells mostly because Selena name + quality as we see more reviews on it. But initially there was nothing to judge besides Selena’s name so ofc there would be speculation about selena + relationship with beauty. Now that we see more positive reviews it isn’t as much of an issue as the brand message of Selena’s more natural aesthetic is more evident. Additionally, people questioning Selena would also usually be just as critical of ALL money-grabby makeup brands just like morphe, Dior, whatever. There are also people who are choose to ONLY support indie, ethical, or passionate brands. YOU don’t have to care and not everyone has to care!! But trying to say other people shouldn’t at all is kinda silly while projecting assumptions that aren’t necessarily true.
The fear was that it was gonna be another half-assed celebrity makeup line in an already oversaturated market. Since she doesn't have a strong relationship with makeup, it was feared it would be generic and without a strong direction and a celebrity name just thrown on top regardless of brand identity (Haus Labs...need I say more). But someone somehere pointed out that Selena actually DOES have a really strong makeup identity, it's just such a pared back and simple one that it was overlooked for being "a look". She's like the Robert Welsh of celebrities: she doesn't do a lot and instead focuses on doing it super well and super seamlessly. Once people saw the line, everyone was like "ya know what, this actually is such a Selena gomez type of makeup look".
A lot of people said Selena has nothing to do with make up, bc she wears a more natural look and use less product. You don't have to wear a full glam face every day to love make up. I love makeup and wear makeup every day, and people usually can't tell that if I'm wearing it. I knew you would like it, bc you like a more natural finish.. I don't think this products are made with the "beauty guru" style in mind. I would love to buy it, but I'm from Argentina, I need 2 salaries to buy it xD
Nat Etche yassss i'm the same, i use make up everyday but it's really minimal, people only believe me when i make huuuge eyelooks kkk and i'm brazilian and the price hurts kkk imagine the shipping HELP
Same... I'm so curious about those blushes and highlighters, and oh oh the eyeliner!! But we would need a special price policy for it to make sense as non-luxury makeup here in Argentina... 🤷♀️
This is exactly why I'd like to try some of her stuff, because I also love the natural barely there makeup look. It's unfair to say that Selena has nothing to do with makeup, just because her looks are more minimalistic. I like her makeup style a lot!
Honestly this was a gold mine for me. I wear little to nothing of makeup and wanted I wear more eyeshadow but with a more natural look. This was just that. It has minimal tools, products for me to be introduced to so I’m loving it 😅
Brands don't make you look cakey. Its the way most of the more popular RUclipsrs pile on makeup. Caking or baking is a term that came from drag makeup, but women are doing it too now. This review really takes me back to the years before baking your face in makeup became a trend.
I don't get the hate for her coming out with this brand, she wanted to make a brand that is easy for people with disabilities and physical illnesses, she has an autoimmune disease so the has arthritis and the ball is designed to specifically make it easier for people like that,it has a great message
Oh! I never knew that. On the videos and the website it didn't mention it, but now that you said it, makes perfect sense. I have lupus, and this may help 😉
@@juliearmymom7807 It was mentioned many times on their site and on their social media accounts. They donated 10,000 masks to healthcare workers before they even dropped products and pledged $100 million for mental health.
I don’t think it’s hate, I’ve seen more people getting defensive when someone doesn’t like a product, then people hating on her for creating a brand. Either way everyone is different and had different opinions
Pink I knew about the 1% of sales being donated but that’s it. I know that was directed towards Julie, but not everyone follows their social media. I’ve only watched this video and one other one and it wasn’t mentioned.. so ❄️ out, pal.
Everything is tailored to the fact that Selena has lupus, which also means she has arthritis in her hands. •The ball on top of the cream products make it easier for her to open. •The applicators have so much product on them because that you don't have to keep trying to dip, which can be hard for people with arthritis. •The brushes are also shaped like a finger! That may you can use a brush instead of putting pressure on your fingers!
I have never felt so seen 😭 I’ve had arthritis since I was 7 and I’m 26 now. I have to use my teeth to open so many of my products because my hands can’t squeeze tight enough. I love her for doing this.
My stepmom designed the packaging and while it might be an unintentional benefit, it was not considered when they were in the process of making it! Love Selena but she chose the packaging because she just liked how it looked :3 which is also totally fine but that’s why you can’t find info on it
Your Friend Mad I was diagnosed with jra at age 8 after two years suffering. I’m now 33 and i still get excited when I met other people who understand my childhood ( although sad about it at the same time )
unless i find a celebrity problematic, i dont care if they release products. good makeup is good makeup. i understamd not wanting to make the rich richer, but you said it best. just dont buy it and the brand will go to shit.
I have it and it was way too light for me. I could barely tell I had highlight on. I think it's different for everyone. I absolutely love the use though.
If you are looking for other cream blushes, I really like the em cosmetics serum blushes. Easy to work with, buildable and just absolutely stunning in general! That was my first time using cream blushes and now I barely use my powder ones. I do want to try the Rare Beauty ones one of these days because they look so good and it feels like they would last me a long time.
People are kicking off but let’s be honest, she’s been wearing professional makeup her entire career. She probably has more hands on experience than most 👏🏼
She's been wearing makeup since she was 8 years old. She said so herself in one of the promo vids floating around on YT. She definitely knows her shit. I'm happy to have a celeb come out with such a thoughtful brand and one that promotes natural makeup. Natural makeup is constantly looked down upon and it's absurd.
@@TheSwauzz I think it's fair to say that wearing makeup is much different than knowing enough about it to understand formulation, manufacturing, and marketing. That said, she clearly had a solid vision and she's done a great job with this line. 👍
As someone who really dislike that youtube trend of making yourself glow like a christmas tree with an highlighter, I would wear this one. It seems to be just enough shine. Overall, this brand seems to be my kind of makeup so I'll probably try it
Same! I am not into the RUclips/Instagram influencer type makeup look personally (Hence why I like Robert because he doesn’t fall into this category). It’s way too heavy and fake for real life, so this is my kind of everyday makeup.
@@HC-mr3nt yeah I have a whole bunch of small RUclips channels I watch cause they do their make-up the same as they do it in real life. I couldn't figure out how all these people could get their make-up to look so flawless with the way they pack it on, not realizing early on that their lights and filters are what made it look so flawless. So I love these people that turn down their lights and show us close up how it looks around their nose and what not
I really don't get it, she have been in the business which has a ton of demand for make up. Shouldn't celebrities of high calibers like Selena know more about makeups than normal people, after all they have worked for years with professional makeup artists.
But why would anyone care that much? Like...if you’re not interested then don’t buy it lol. I usually balk at celebrity makeup lines but it seems like Selena Gomez really put thought into this line and didn’t just slap her name on to some hot mess cheap makeup. The products seem good quality and thoughtfully curated
I didn’t hear anyone really complain about it at all. Were people just expecting James or Manny to flip out? I thought everyone had an open mind to wait and see.
unrelated but rob makes me feel like i’m “normal.” not to sound shady but when i was younger youtubers would always say “i have a massive forehead, a big nose” yk they still say this but ever since ive watched rob i’ve actually somehow grown to appreciate my own beauty. i may have a big nose but eh honestly i’ll do me. rob doesn’t overly contour at all tbh and i’m not bashing contouring but it’s all used to achieve the same beauty standard. thaaaankkkkk youuuuuuuuuu robbbbbbbb it really does mean a lot 💗
The problem is when we separate a body part from the rest of our bodies & hyper focus & obsess on every inch of it; of course, that’s going to make us feel like our lips are too little or our nose is too big, etc. If we step back & look at the entire face or body, then we can see that’s exactly the perfect size & shape of lips, nose, forehead to go with the rest of our face. God doesn’t make defective products. He put the right personality in the correct body with features that go best together & with each person. If something is “wrong” with someone, it’s lack of confidence, joy, etc. I always hate to see someone turn themselves into a cookie cutter person to match the current fab, especially with plastic surgery; they always come out looking like something is missing from them, like part of their light is dimmed.
I've ordered some Rare Beauty stuff to try BECAUSE of that packaging and large sizing. I have major wrist issues and sometimes can't open products if I'm having a bad day. The balls on top make things easier to open so I'm so happy to see makeup becoming more disability friendly!
I agree❣️ Guide Beauty is an amazing company for folks with dexterity/physical issues (autoimmune/Parkinson’s for example...don’t want to omit anyone’s physical limitations here)...just a mention!! Happy Friday!!
Between Wayne Goss designing an eye palette for 40+ year old women, and now this, I am very optimistic about the future of cosmetics and skincare being designed explicitly for older women, and not just being “old-fashioned.”
The reason why I trust you more is because you explain your reasoning for why you like something or why you don’t and you go very in depth about techniques. It’s very interesting because I feel like I learn from you which is something I can’t say from most influencers.
Totaly agree, for me this is a really good review, you don't have to love every product, just be honest and give your reasons. We all have different skin needs and preferences.
The thing I like the most in his facts is telling how it was before influencers. Just because a celebrity is not an all about makeup celebrity does not mean they do not belong in the beauty industry. Since celebrity was a thing they have been in the beauty industry long before there was even a hint of influencers or social media.
I like that Western brands have started to turn away from the super heavy, full coverage foundations. I can't tell you how many times I have gone into a Sephora asking for light/medium foundation and there has been hardly anything!
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for (hopefully I’m still good with it as time goes on 😅). I get so tired of these full glam looks being pushed out when I want a more natural look. I just don’t even bother wanting to try anything out (which is partly my fault). So this is refreshing. :)
Who cares who made the brand ? Do the products work?? I only trust Robert to tell me the truth. I didn't even bother watching other reviews so I'm happy you did this!
Also would like to mention that the brand sent out PR packages with a few shades to match the recipient. I appreciated they they were aware of wasting product. Small detail but I appreciated that
Agree! Do the products work regardless of the brand name. This applies to the cheapest of drugstore and the most expensive of luxury makeup. Literally every review ever should have this question in mind!
the only reason why this matters to me is because i do not want to spend my money if the person behind there is for example racist or i do in any way support them being harmfull.
@@steffid_ thats a great point. I completely agree with you. I should have been a bit more clear, its more about people judging whether a singer should be launching a make up brand, or you say the products are all amazing because you're a fan of the artist who created the brand. Ethics and morals come first. But we shouldn't judge the products purely on favoritism.
I hear that Selena made the packaging easier for those of us with certain dexterity issues. She has Lupus and made the products easier to handle for those of us with joint pain. I love that. GO SELENA!! Also, Robert, you look wonderful! Such a beautiful person and soul.
not true. "@Loashe 3 years ago Robert Welsh, a makeup artist here on youtube, reached out and got a response from the rare beauty team that the packaging was not intended for those with disabilities/arthritis. The interesting rounded designs on their products are more for aesthetic purposes than health related ones. It’s likely someone commented on it and spread quickly as fact."
@@MyNameHere101 it went amazing!!!it was way too hot for my huge wedding dress but we endured it. I fainted after the photoshoot and then threw up when we arrived at the venue right after we had final rehearsal of our first dance but I took it like a champ and after that it was just amazing. Thanks for asking. It turned out like a million times better than expected and everything went right
I'm not a Selena Gomez fan - I don't follow celebs BUT I would love if more people would mention that she's making donations for mental health awareness and that her packaging was made with arthritis and physical difficulties in mind so it's easy to open. I absolutely love that! I'm interested in picking up a few things, especially those brushes.
@Misty B I'm really glad that a makeup brAnd is stepping up their game and recognising that Mental health and disorders needs to be addressed. I'm so on board with Rare Beauty because of the money she's donating! I also want the concealer, lip products (all of them, they'd be gorgeous on anyone) and the highlighters & blushes are a YES!!! ❤💋😘💄🙃😉
I freaking love you because you actually say what more people need to hear, "don't go in with the view of protecting her" "she doesn't expect everyone to love her products." You're not drama, you're not hate, and that needs to be spread more around youtube.
Is it me or the camera? I think the foundation makes you look flawless. not the thick cakey kind. it looks like your real skin but with better complexion. I didn't expect much, but now I am amazed
As someone with both Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis my daughter told me as soon as these products were released. I REALLY appreciate the packaging for the ease of opening and using them. Having said all that I have so much respect for you Robert and hearing your review of these products is the icing on the cake for me. Thank you! Big Love from 🇨🇦
So glad you made a point of saying it's makeup and ppl need to calm down. Everyone has opinions. Take em or leave em. It's not that deep. Great review as always! Could you use the blush as a wash of color on the eyes?
Most people will review makeup the way they like to use makeup. The trick is to find the person your technique vibes with and figure out how they like it. For instance I watch Popluxe Nadi for foundation recommendations because if a foundation works for him it generally is good for me. Its not rocket science.
I was just thinking this! I watch other make up youtubers that are always full coverage, but it's not my style I just like to watch mainly their eye look or they are fun. I noticed that I vibe more with Kathleen and Robert even, though I have combination skin, I like how they tend to be more on the natural style
I agree. I always look up on Kathleenlights before buying any foundation online, because we have similar skintone and skin type. I could never go wrong if I follow the shade she uses lol
Love the mindset that there's enough space for releases. Everyone forgets that the past existed and celebs released collabs all the time. Makeup isn't just for you tubers.
" They know nothing about makeup!" Honey the big ceos running your favorite brands dont even WEAR makeup half the time. * re commenting because someone was annoying under my other *
Exactly. Most of those CEOs don't wear makeup at all actually nor are they versed in makeup. They are there to manage the business and have creative advisors and other people that know about makeup working for them.
Most CEOs of these companies are men. Let's not forgett that. So people seem to have absolutly no problem with them and lower down managment who are mostly men too bringing put make-up... but when a woman does it? Let's all clutch our pearls.
@@sisuguillam5109 90 percent are probably men. And they always have been. And there’s no Robert welsh, who actually uses makeup, sitting in those board meetings making decisions. It’s always been a male dominated industry. They have been telling women what to wear since the 1900s. “ How to be a real woman for your husband. How to look your best for when your husband gets home. Just because you cooked dinner doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put the effort into looking your best for him”. God can you imagine someone telling you that shit. It would be a solid fuc$ off from me 😂😂😂
@@scray00 I am old enough to have been damn close to people telling someone that shit - 5 years older and with different parents I would have been told that. There are people who push for women conforming to that again in my country - and plenty of others. 😑 The fight against that never seems to end.
In the war the UK government made posters encouraging women to keep looking good and putting on their lippy as a way of keeping up the country's morale. Lol.
A tip for new puppy owners... pour hot water in a large bottle (preferably a plastic one) and wrap a towel around it. Put it in near the puppy, specially at night. They can rest on it like it's their mom. It can comfort them. I think it feels like a big dog
I love this advice. Also my puppy’s favorite toy was a BPA free plastic water bottle. Just make sure you remove the cap, ring, and labels. He just crunched on it for hours.
I saw this comment and was like...what the heck? Why is she talking about puppies on a makeup video...just goes to show how bad my memory is! Lol That is good advice. Hope it works for Robert.
FINALLY! you're literally the ONLY person i wanted to see a review on this line from. I've never been a fan of Selena so I wasn't sure how much work she puts into her projects, but the only reviews I could find are from people who cake their faces and think the brand is lacking because it's not drag makeup 🙄 not helpful at all! Thanks for recording this.
I watch videos from Robert to see proper detailed product reviews (and how to use them properly) and Jackie Aina to sort of educate myself/ get her opinion from the POV of a black woman- definitely influences my opinion on products.
I KNEW you would like the highlighters! Several influencers said that it wasn't intense enough.... the "need to be seen from space?" I love a natural glow from my highlighter, so I'm thrilled how much you enjoyed it!!
K. Dueck I just feel like most beauty gurus prefer heavy full coverage foundation, intense highlight, harsh dark contour, absurdly long false eyelashes, etc, you get the gist
Nicole Hernandez I totally agree. I have actually stopped watching quite a few influencers because they apply their makeup like you described. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way!👍🙂
The concealer applicator is shaped like that to make it easier to get into all the crevices of the face. A lot of thought has gone into the design of the packaging and I love that the company is a huge supporter of mental illness. I wouldn't call myself a fan of Selena but I do have so much respect for her.
"I feel lost without you" is the most beautiful thing an artist can tell to his followers.. Likewise, Robert! But we are like your close friends who would never forget you or love you any less regardless of a long break 🖤
Idk why but my brain is telling me baby sister: Glossier Middle sister: Rare Beauty Oldest sister: Fenty Beauty Aunt: Bobbi Brown Mom: Estee Lauder Grandma: MAC
@@efolinsky i thought of MAC as the grandma cause they're like the oldest (???) in the makeup industry LOL but omg i never knew EL owns a lot of other brands??
The foundation packaging looks like that because it’s designed to be easy to open for people with issues opening things (like people with arthritis). Selena Gomez has a hard time opening things so accessibility is really important to her!
Tbh I watched many, many reviews. But this one was by far the BEST. The way he took his time to actually TEST the product. So slowly and genuine. I know its not his first time testing products but he goes into it as if it were the first time. Something I don't notice with the "influencers" You can tell he and James always read everything about a product, ingredients, directions/application.
This is a very professional review. Thank you for giving an overview of both the pros and the cons and also for keeping an open mind about the products. I have watched so many reviews where influencers are discounting it as just another "celeb" release and not applying the products correctly (yes this is happening- one influencer applied the liner to just his hand not his eyes and we know that hand swatches are not always accurate). This is so weird and so disrespectul to their subscribers to think that we dont notice a personal bias. Thank you for showing the others how a review should be done!
she said that the intention with this brand is to be a makeup that everybody can use in daily basis to look beautiful without look like you're using a ton of makeup and by all that I've seen so far I think she achived that marvelously. And she also proved that she is not just interested in making money selling products using her fame but in truly create good products and by the way this balls and discs in the top of the components are to help people that have joint pain because of inflammatory diseases or anything like that to open the compenents more easily
Mad Cyanide yes, it was made for ease of use, for people that have conditions like lupis and arthritis that make it hard to open things, like Selena Gomez herself
Emily Griffith I don’t deny that, but the fact is, according to the company’s statement, it was not made for people with arthritis or other diseases alike because making such a statement means that they have done actual testing for people who suffer from said diseases. Which they have not and so saying something that highly specific isn’t entirely accurate. But we can all appreciate the benefits of the packaging for others who suffer from arthritis and the like :D
I LOVE how honest, logical, and down-to-earth you are. You keep us in check and remind us that it's just makeup! Life goes on. You're so tactful and professional.
Her makeup line genuinely looks like it’s good quality, like some thought was put into it and it wasn’t just randomly put together in a lab to make a quick buck.
"I see inside the bottle there's some separation which tends to be the case with natural deodorants" DEODORANT😂😂 Don't you just love when you want to say something and your brain decides it wants to say something completely different without consulting you first lol😂
I’m so happy this was a win! i’m so proud of selena for coming this far, as someone who has dry skin it feels so nice to have options as well there are a lot of brands that just focus on oily skin products so this made me very happy ❤️
That brush came out in an ipsy box, maybe Boxycharm, my memory is shit sometimes, last year under a different brand. It's triangular and dense. I have it and I use it for foundation. Works beautifully with tinted moisturizer as well as full coverage foundations, even pancake type makeup and it let's you be as detailed as you like.
I love how you initially started with a little ammount and not broad strokes didn't see something like this in a mu video for a long time, really satisfying
I feel like this launch showed something that everyone has always known about a lot of beauty influencers which is that they do their makeup in a very specific way and they’re used to products being able to be manipulated a certain way. That’s not to say they were wrong or that the products were bad, but it was just very obvious that they felt like they should be able to add heavy powder and a lot of layers without issue. I watched a worst products from viewers video recently, and all of the products people didn’t like were influencer recommended or highly pushed products 🤣 and it’s because so many of them have a similar way of doing their camera makeup that isn’t applicable to real life. I know that this vibe matches yours very well, but I also appreciate that you talk about products as they are marketed AND then your preferences in terms or your routine. Sometimes it’s hard for regular people to buy influencer recommendations cause they compare it to things that are the complete opposite which defeats the purpose. 😊
I feel like you prepped us really well in case it wasn't good, and then it ended up being great. That's how I feel reviews should be. I'm so glad you were able to try the brand-- it looks stunning!
Shoutout to Robert for always keeping it truthful and natural when it comes to the makeup. Thank you from the girls that want that neutral look and natural highlight 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you so much for bringing some Maturity to this platform. Of course people are always free to say what they like or dislike. The things Selena is trying to do with her brand is great but everyone is not going to like it, and we can only hope they’re respectful if they say what they dislike or have no need of products. I purchased the foundation, but it’s not something I will reach for when I do my makeup. I Love the blushes! I have all the matte blushes except the lightest one which will not show up on me. The only reason I didn’t get the highlighters is I got the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter last month to give me the kind of subtle highlights the Rare Beauty one does. I like Rare Beauty price Much better! Oh well, it’s too late now.
Not going to lie, when I first heard about the brand I was one of the many people who rolled their eyes and dismissed it automatically as crap without even seeing anything. But slowly as I saw how much she was working on it and then I started to feel bad that I was so dismissive at first, but I was kind of still skeptical of it? But willing to look at it if I saw anything I think might be interesting. But then I actually saw the products (specifically the foundation) and now I really want to give Rare Beauty a try! So yeah Selena slammed my bad expectations out the door and now I feel like I have to personally apologize to her Looolllllll
Initially I was just like oh another celeb makeup line. But watching her video with Nikkieturorials and seeing how much of her heart she put into this line and the nice shade range, taking into consideration people that may have issues opening the products and donating money for mental health, I also started to feel bad about my initial reaction. It definitely looks like a brand I’d use and have been looking at the products I want to get soon.
okay i dont even U S E makeup but when i heard Selena Gomez was making a brand i was curious if it was shit. thanks for being real man i wouldnt trust another beauty 'guru' to tell the trush straight forward
I feel like you're literally the only one that liked the highlighter (from those that I have seen) . So many haven't because it's "metallic" they say. But you, omg MADE IT WORK!!! It looks very different than what I have seen others do. Edit: and you're recommending it?!?! Ya, nobody I seen has. And your reason behind why and how you made it work MAKES SENSE.
That's interesting! Everyone I've seen review it loved it because of exactly what Robert said. I think I'd love it also because it's so natural. I'm going to look for some more reviews now! Lol❤
@@OCKymberly I've noticed a lot of other youtubers powdering before trying the cream blush and highlighter which makes no sense to me. Robert highlighted before powdering and I think that allowed it to properly melt into the make up.
You’re review is making me want to try this brand! I also love how you talk about the products for different skin types, a lot of you tubers just recommend products and don’t think about their skin type but since you are an actual MUA and have done makeup to all different skin types you can give that perspective that this will likely work for you or it won’t.
Now this is an authentic review! With advice and information like a true professional! Pros and cons with a non biased opinion! You’re awesome Robert! 🙌🏻 Hands done my favorite Professional MUA!
This line just screams natural and playing with your own features. So I guess lots of RUclipsrs want that absolutely blinding highlight but this line is not for that! In my opinion at least 😂
@@xxlovelyoxanaxx good thing that's exactly what's she's going for with this line! I'm glad we are getting more natural make up brands. Cake face doesn't look good on me. I would love to try this brand
@@Hannah-zw9ow I guess she means that you shouldn't try to force products to perform for a look it wasn't intended for. It's a bad habit most gurus have.
Ugh your base looks so bomb.... I wanted to completely dismiss this brand but, the more I see about it the more I want to buy the majority of it. I honestly prefer lighter weight foundation with a medium concealer and the fact that she specifically designed it for people with mobility issues in their hands makes me just want to throw money at her ( I don’t have any BUT it’s something that is so lacking in the industry). Also, that mirror is amazing!!! How have never noticed it before
When this notification popped up, I was like ugh another one of these Rare reviews, and then I saw it was you who uploaded it. I clicked on it so fast 😂
"There's late nights of crying.... not me, the dog.... well" - I cackled at this so loudly it woke my boyfriend up.... I love your sense of humor Robert :)
Fun fact about the little balls on top of the packaging. Selena has lupus which causes horrible joint pain so she wanted people with joint pain to be able to open the product easily. 🤗
watching these videos about Rare beauty has me like super wanting her blush and highlighter. That blush pigment and will last forever! I feel like all her products. you'll be getting a REALLY long life out of them!
I don’t wear foundation and prefer a tinted moisturizer or just spot concealer and Bare Minerals powder. Having arthritis in my hands I feel the packaging is a plus. The type of makeup is light and natural and minimal and I like that too. Thanks for the review Robert, it was very helpful. 🥰👍❤️
The packaging that balls on the foundation and concealer is to help people who suffer from lupus arthritis ♥️♥️Love this review sooo much and sooo honest ♥️♥️
When applying the blush, demo, the “just a little bit” comment, and your overall chill-ness gave me major gave me major Bob Ross vibes. You could definitely have hosted a very relaxing PBS show called “The Joy of Makeup”.
I’m like 2 yrs late… but, your reaction to the highlighter was my reaction to the highlighters/blush/and ESPECIALLY the eyeshadow palette. I applied the eyeshadows and the pressed glitter…. Legit almost cried. I’m SO picky about eyeshadows. Extremely. I have 1 palette that was my constant.. every time.. go to. JS X Morphe palette. I was DEVASTATED when all the super controversial things came out. I struggled for YEARS to find a replacement palette to replace my JS one. Yearssssssss. Selena’s palette not only blends out just as beautifully as the JS one. Selena also has a pressed glitter shade and it’s IDENTICAL if not BETTER quality then JS’s pressed glitter in that palette. Normally, I have to use setting spray on my brush.. then go in to the glitter. With Selena’s? I went into the pan with a dry brush, and it applied GORGEOUSLY. Only two layers applied and it was evenly placed and not splotchy. I legit sat and just stared in the mirror for 10 minutes after applying because I was just so shocked
That's so random that you two know each other. I love you both.
Thank you Cassandra for doing that for all of us!! So nice of you. Heading to your channel as soon as this video is over😁💕💖
Cassandras reviews of the ordinary made me pay attention to my skin 😍
That’s so sweet of her to send you these products 💕
Awesome! Cassandra is a god send in this crazy world.

@@Sarah.Jane. yes natural makeup is definitely gaining popularity massively! The days of the Instagram-glam, super heavy makeup are numbered!
I’m already a little tired of heavy makeup, I mean full coverage foundation, lashes, many eyeshadows, and the list goes on.
The truth is it’s good to have variety I mean I like medium coverage but sometimes you just want to be just evened out and not look too done up
Everything flower beauty wants to be, yet failed to execute..
Yea these ppl don't live in the real world and are in for a rude awakening. MOST business ppl care about profit and what would be most lucrative
Imagine what music artist think about youtubers becoming music artists like makeup gurus think they own all makeup and think they can control everything in the community
THIS !!!
It has minimal tools, products for me to be introduced to so I’m loving it 😅
JAJAJAA SAME! Pero se consiguen algunas buenas marcas pero nunca a un precio apto para mortales
Finally a brand that doesn't make you look cakey.
“finally”? I am assuming you're new to the community
Looking cakey depends on the application, not the product/makeup brand
Brands don't make you look cakey. Its the way most of the more popular RUclipsrs pile on makeup.
Caking or baking is a term that came from drag makeup, but women are doing it too now.
This review really takes me back to the years before baking your face in makeup became a trend.
They only look cakey because of how they apply it. They put tons of makeup on, from foundation, concealer, setting powder, contour, blush, highlighter
I heard and gathered that this brand is more for a natural look. So you don’t have to use as much when getting ready. So maybe that’s why
Didn’t know that either! I wish that was a more known fact.
I’m so excited for this! I don’t want to sound shady but Robert is one of the few influencer I actually trust
Thank you so much! 🖤🖤
Same.
100% i base my makeup purchases on his reviews. I try an do mica free, anti cruelty and his reviews help.
Me as well
Same!
Genius!
I have never felt so seen 😭 I’ve had arthritis since I was 7 and I’m 26 now. I have to use my teeth to open so many of my products because my hands can’t squeeze tight enough. I love her for doing this.
wow! I did not know about the last one and it’s so smart!
When Robert says “I could cry...” you know that product is IN MY CART.
THIS
YES
Like right tf now!!!!! 🤣
YES YES YES
I have it and it was way too light for me. I could barely tell I had highlight on. I think it's different for everyone. I absolutely love the use though.
This brand make me realize there is not enough liquid blush in the market but so much liquid highlighter.
Absolutely!
Daniel sandler has amazing watercolour blushes! They stay so well on the skin and he really has great colours, check it out :)
I think Michelle Pham has some liquid blushes
If you are looking for other cream blushes, I really like the em cosmetics serum blushes. Easy to work with, buildable and just absolutely stunning in general! That was my first time using cream blushes and now I barely use my powder ones. I do want to try the Rare Beauty ones one of these days because they look so good and it feels like they would last me a long time.
EDM Yuki especially because of the pigment! You aren’t using much but getting a lot, you know?
People are kicking off but let’s be honest, she’s been wearing professional makeup her entire career. She probably has more hands on experience than most 👏🏼
She's been wearing makeup since she was 8 years old. She said so herself in one of the promo vids floating around on YT. She definitely knows her shit. I'm happy to have a celeb come out with such a thoughtful brand and one that promotes natural makeup. Natural makeup is constantly looked down upon and it's absurd.
For real, where did the idea come from that only YT 'beauty gurus' are the only ones allowed to design makeup?
@@TheSwauzz Natural makeup is looked down on? 😮
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood flawless filter is also freaking amazing and will last ten years.
Yeah, except it took off all my foundation underneath when I tried it
@@HC-mr3nt yeah I have a whole bunch of small RUclips channels I watch cause they do their make-up the same as they do it in real life. I couldn't figure out how all these people could get their make-up to look so flawless with the way they pack it on, not realizing early on that their lights and filters are what made it look so flawless. So I love these people that turn down their lights and show us close up how it looks around their nose and what not
@@HC-mr3nt Amen.
All the people who sit there and say “but Selena Gomez has no business in makeup” are the same people that got really excited for Shane Dawson x JSC
exactly💀Shane came, reaped the benefits, and left. He doesn’t wear “his” makeup or any makeup at all, it was for the money
🔥🔥🤣
LOL @ calling him "Rob". i've never thought of him as a rob and it makes him seem like a different person
gardenho69 lol yea i saw some ppl using “rob” so i thought why not
AGREED 👍
🥺🥺😍 true
I agree❣️
Guide Beauty is an amazing company for folks with dexterity/physical issues (autoimmune/Parkinson’s for example...don’t want to omit anyone’s physical limitations here)...just a mention!!
Happy Friday!!
I looove reading these comments and knowing that Sel is helping a lot of people with the ball thing 😭❤️
Louisa Amabel Sane!! Y’all deserve to feel gorgeous because you are 💜
She made the packaging with this in mind 💕 since she has lupus she also struggles with the wrist issues ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
I agree. I watch so many product reviews that say a product is barely pigmented.. perhaps, maybe it was intended that way? 🤨
Totaly agree, for me this is a really good review, you don't have to love every product, just be honest and give your reasons. We all have different skin needs and preferences.
I agree. It feels like a master class in makeup.
Rob: it looks different on the skin than on the packaging. See what I mean?
Me: oh yeah I see it
Rob: no you don't
Me: oh. No I don't 😅
😂😂😂🖤
Omg yesssss 😂😂😂
EXACTLY! I was like yelling at my screen going "yes I do Robert! I can see it!" 😂😂😂
I was like yes , coral , of course .. the oh noooo ok no
Okay this one🤣🤣🤣
Yes and the ones they do have are high end brands!!! I’m excited to go buy this today it’s exactly what I need !
lmao and then there's my country with only light/medium coverage foundations when people want full coverage.
Thats why i only use korean brands on foundation
Steffi D oh that’s a really good reason
@@steffid_ thats a great point. I completely agree with you. I should have been a bit more clear, its more about people judging whether a singer should be launching a make up brand, or you say the products are all amazing because you're a fan of the artist who created the brand. Ethics and morals come first. But we shouldn't judge the products purely on favoritism.
mood: Robert nearly crying over a highlighter

Robert Welsh, a makeup artist here on youtube, reached out and got a response from the rare beauty team that the packaging was not intended for those with disabilities/arthritis.

also her brand is supposed to be vegan n cruelty free
How much does she donate?
I have MS and I confirm that the packaging is amazing if you have also spasticity
I wanna have foundation like that
Yaaaas!! Who doesn’t want that? Beautiful products.. Can’t wait to get my hands on these products!!
I feel like it would be very long wearing one the eyes! 🖤
Agreed
Most people will review makeup the way they like to use makeup. The trick is to find the person your technique vibes with and figure out how they like it. For instance I watch Popluxe Nadi for foundation recommendations because if a foundation works for him it generally is good for me. Its not rocket science.
I was just thinking this! I watch other make up youtubers that are always full coverage, but it's not my style I just like to watch mainly their eye look or they are fun. I noticed that I vibe more with Kathleen and Robert even, though I have combination skin, I like how they tend to be more on the natural style
Plus Nadi is just lovely in general. 🥰
I agree. I always look up on Kathleenlights before buying any foundation online, because we have similar skintone and skin type. I could never go wrong if I follow the shade she uses lol
Exactly I watch Robert for tips but our skin textures are not the same so generally we would not wear the same products

This is so cute. 🥺🥺🥺

FINALLY! you're literally the ONLY person i wanted to see a review on this line from.
I would recommend Snitchery's she reviewed the full line including the eyebrow pencil and the eyeliner and she did a natural look
I KNEW you would like the highlighters! Several influencers said that it wasn't intense enough.... the "need to be seen from space?" I love a natural glow from my highlighter, so I'm thrilled how much you enjoyed it!!
I’m the same! You should try the Charlotte tilbury flawless filter as a highlighter it’s amaaaaazing for a natural glow 😍
And that's so weird because the whole vibe is natural so why would anyone expect a blinding highlighter?
K. Dueck I just feel like most beauty gurus prefer heavy full coverage foundation, intense highlight, harsh dark contour, absurdly long false eyelashes, etc, you get the gist

Tbh I watched many, many reviews. But this one was by far the BEST.
The way he took his time to actually TEST the product. So slowly and genuine. I know its not his first time testing products but he goes into it as if it were the first time. Something I don't notice with the "influencers"
You can tell he and James always read everything about a product, ingredients, directions/application.
With Rare Beauty, I can see that Selena really poured her heart and time to create this
It does seem thought out very well
This is a very professional review.
@Meg Walker Yes it was. Selena designed it to make it easier for people with arthritis and other joint issues like herself.
Meg Walker uhhh....it was though...
Emily Griffith check Robert’s latest community post
The company confirmed it was for “ease of use” and not “joint diseases”

Yep. The "far away" perfume. My mom's still using it
Her makeup line genuinely looks like it’s good quality, like some thought was put into it and it wasn’t just randomly put together in a lab to make a quick buck.
Ahem kylie cosmetics
"I see inside the bottle there's some separation which tends to be the case with natural deodorants" DEODORANT😂😂
Don't you just love when you want to say something and your brain decides it wants to say something completely different without consulting you first lol😂
😂😂😂😂
😂
Yesss!!! 😆😆😆
That's my favorite thing. When Robert bumbles his speech. His recovery is just adorable!
Hey Robert we're really happy to have you back and the feeling of being lost is mutual ❤ cant wait till its available here x
I’m so happy this was a win! i’m so proud of selena for coming this far, as someone who has dry skin it feels so nice to have options as well there are a lot of brands that just focus on oily skin products so this made me very happy ❤️
GEEEEEE.....Thanks for making me want another brush 😂 THAT I DON'T NEED! Who am I? I need allllll the brushes 😂😘
I gotta say I agree, the brush IS really nice!
I love your makeup skills. I didn’t know you had your own channel, Mel. Going over to sub you now 💎💖
I don't like that you don't have a checkmark yet, Mel. Booooo RUclips!
Sameee! Watching robert’s review makes me wanna buy that brush haha
I love how you initially started with a little ammount and not broad strokes
didn't see something like this in a mu video for a long time, really satisfying
The only reason I didn’t get the highlighters is I got the
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter last month to give me the kind of subtle highlights the Rare Beauty one does. I like Rare Beauty price Much better! Oh well, it’s too late now.
I love that lip shade on you! It’s like the perfect “your lips but better” color for you! Loved the way your skin looked too 🖤🔮🍂
Finally someone trustworthy reviewing this line! Everyone I've seen so far has been using these products as if they're drag queen makeup smh
How was the foundation?? It looks awesome ! Does it last all day without turning into a oily mess?
i have the foundation and love it!! i was definitely one of those ppl too haha but i’m pleasantly surprised
This is so relatable, I feel like a lot of us makeup consumers felt the same way!
Every single review of the brand I've seen so far were very positive.
okay i dont even U S E makeup but when i heard Selena Gomez was making a brand i was curious if it was shit. thanks for being real man i wouldnt trust another beauty 'guru' to tell the trush straight forward
Robert’s reviews are a pleasure to watch. So sweet and honest without the bitterness of some RUclipsrs! 🌸
That Avon perfume was called ‘Far Away’ a 90’s staple 😂
Eyyy i still use this perfume 😂smells heavenly
I love this perfume
I was just checking if someone's mentioned it. My grandma used to wear it :)
Lol I was obsessed with it 😂
Omgawd!! I'm so glad some1 REMEMBERED the name of that perfume!! 😆😆😆
I feel like you're literally the only one that liked the highlighter (from those that I have seen)
.
Lol❤
Smokey glow loved the highlighter 💕
@@OCKymberly clearly I'm watching the wrong people! 😆 🤣
@@Pinkshadow4444 I'll check the channel and video out! Thanks 🥰
@@OCKymberly I've noticed a lot of other youtubers powdering before trying the cream blush and highlighter which makes no sense to me. Robert highlighted before powdering and I think that allowed it to properly melt into the make up.
Yo Robert just sold so many of those highlighters, bet.
You’re one of the few youtubers who liked the highlighter lol this is why I love you 😭
I don’t understand how people didn’t like this highlighter!! It’s so beautiful!
@@Webster9214 Same here girl!! Hopefully one day we can try 😁
@@RobertWelsh Because it looks like natural glowing skin & not like influencer style make up.
YAY!!!! I was waiting for this. Let's gooooo!!!
Samee!!
"I could cry, that is stunning" 😂😂😂😂😂
I love natural highlighters, I don't fancy looking like a disco ball. 😂😂
Right! It's such a turn off when a highlighter has more glitter than need 😣
The “oooh” at 10:13 is sending me, it’s so adorable
Finally someone without a heavy hand. Less is more kids. We’re trying to enhance the beauty not create an entirely new face
Sometimes we’re trying to create an entirely new face and that’s totally fine ✨😇
How have never noticed it before
I also wanted to dismiss it at first because I wasn’t bothered about it, but I’m so so glad I fired it! There are some gems !

When this notification popped up, I was like ugh another one of these Rare reviews, and then I saw it was you who uploaded it. I clicked on it so fast 😂
😂😂Thank you!! 🖤🖤

Danii Decay
😒
Stop.... I didn’t say they were bothering me. I’ve just seen a million of them at this point, and was still excited for his!
Danii Decay girl why are you pressed😂🤪
"There's late nights of crying.... not me, the dog.... well" - I cackled at this so loudly it woke my boyfriend up.... I love your sense of humor Robert :)
I love how you were so tired and normal at first and then your energy came up after you tried the highlighter😄
Robert: I'm gonna let it.. brew ? Simmer ?
Me: Marinate?
Sit?
Steep (I'm a tea person)?
Lmao I hope this becomes a super long thread 😂
meld?, suffuse?
React? (Scientist here!)
Fun fact about the little balls on top of the packaging. Selena has lupus which causes horrible joint pain so she wanted people with joint pain to be able to open the product easily. 🤗
@@rifat410 don't be so mean, she just wanted to let people know.
I didn't know this! What a thoughtful idea!
@@steffid_ thank you. I didnt see the comment before it was deleted. So no harm no foul.
@@LateDogFoodYT i thought so too. I don't know a ton about lupus but I do have osteoarthritis so I appreciate the easy open grips too.
"so just calm down" this sound byte is gonna be my new ringtone👍😄
There needs to be an ASMR of Robert’s rings while applying makeup
“So just calm down” should be our 2020 motto 😂😂
I’m completely Dry AF Gang. I think the foundation is great with medium coverage. Also, it’s truly the ONE foundation that I forget I’m wearing.
watching these videos about Rare beauty has me like super wanting her blush and highlighter. That blush pigment and will last forever! I feel like all her products. you'll be getting a REALLY long life out of them!
“Late nights crying. Not me, the dog... well” 🥴😂 Much love to you and your family! 💕
I love how excited and happy you got over the highlighter and you TOTALLY deserve to be on that PR list!
The packaging that balls on the foundation and concealer is to help people who suffer from lupus arthritis ♥️♥️Love this review sooo much and sooo honest ♥️♥️
I just started watching - haircut looks great!
Thank you!! 🖤🖤
When applying the blush, demo, the “just a little bit” comment, and your overall chill-ness gave me major gave me major Bob Ross vibes. You could definitely have hosted a very relaxing PBS show called “The Joy of Makeup”.
Okay but that highlight was the best natural looking and beautiful blended highlight I’ve ever seen.
