What does this comment mean? Food prices vary based on the global situation. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine pushed up prices of gasoline, wheat, sunflower oil and fertilizer - all produced in that region.

I don't know what "9 quid" is, if it's not 9 pounds... but if it is 9 pounds, then, yes, that's way too expensive.
In the US, $9 (or about 7 pounds) get you TWO whole CARTONS of very high grade ice cream (for us lower classes & peasants, that is, even though the rich pretend to want to spend $15 or $30 on "specialty" brand names that don't necessarily taste any better than, say, Edy's/Dreyer's, which are made with premium almond, coffee, cashew, etc)...
The poor, uneducated Liberal run state like California, for example --- in addition to having the most high tech companies on earth on a per capita basis --- grows a MAJORITY of the fruits & nuts consumed across the US, so ice cream headquartered in California have access to very cheap, premium nuts for their premium ice cream brands...
9 quid is still cheaper than CA. In SF I paid $7 for a single scoop and that’s because I didn’t tip. So two single scoop ice cream in SF is $14 and that’s only if you don’t tip.

It's a bit stupid only taking cards when, as an ice cream seller, many of your customers will be young children, who are unlikely have such a method of payment at their disposal.
Sounds like it must be a sort of fru-fru ice cream shop, rather than a regular one. The fancy one in my old neighbourhood was expensive, but gosh it was good, plus fresh and home made with unique flavours. Didn't mean I couldn't choose to get the cheap soft serve when I felt like it.

When the kids start complaining about inflationary prices, you know it’s out of control.
Yet according to republicans, Biden is to blame, but this is the UK. Is Biden also president of the world? Because inflation is happening worldwide. That of course affects the US market, it's a free market after all. And even though a president can't change that, he can control what to spend money on. And I prefer it being spent on better infrastructure that benefits every American than huge tax cuts to billionaires. The US under Biden is still doing better regarding inflation than the rest of the world, so that's a win. And not giving dozens of billions to billionaires again like Trump did after it's been proven again and again that it does not trickle down to average americans is a good thing right now, too

It usually the sort of language used casually by people on the bottom rungs of the social order, where being graceless and crude is the order of the day. It is extremely inappropriate for a child to be talking like that, and it reflects poor parenting and upbringing.
The girl is talking in that way because that is likely how her parents routinely talk, children pick those sorts of behaviours up from them.

As a Brit it sounds like she's describing a 'Screwball' - vanilla ice cream in a cone-shaped cup with sauce and a bubble gum at the bottom. Honestly £9 for 2 is INSANE. I could buy one as a kid for less than £1. Even now if you're paying more than £4 for 2 you're being ripped off.
The cup isn't even edible.
Also kids can't make card payments; besides the outrageous pricing; while I'm not keen on bubblegum with ice cream, but it's 8 "Screwballs" for £2.50 at a nearby supermarket.
I remember those used to be the really cheap ice creams like the cheapest ones you could get the cheapest ones that weren't mini milks anyway but I hated mini milk so I never got them I used to get them all the time so I could have more pocket money left over to spend on other things.

Legally children can have bank cards from the age of seven but almost nobody does. Most people get their first bank card when they are teenagers and are looking for their first job.
So yeah, charging card only when your main customer base most likely doesn't have a card to pay with is incredibly stupid. It would be understandable if this was 2020 and we were all paranoid about the virus but it's 2024.
