LOL we definitely have electric kettles in America. But it’s not a “common” household appliance. I’ve always had one in my house but I’m also Asian, so, you know, tea and cup noodles. 🤷🏻♀️
It's definitely extremely rare, and I would say the ONLY reason you'd ever have one is if you're from Asian or foreign decent. I've never met a single person in my life in the US with an electric kettle.
I don’t know how the idea that Americans don’t use electric kettles came about but I’m 65 and have always used an electric kettle, and so do most of my family and friends. I do live in the south and we can’t live without our (properly brewed) tea.

We call them "biscuits" and they tend to be lighter and moister than scones. It's delicious honestly... Also, most Americans don't have a bag of chips with every meal. Rice and beans goes with everything in Brazil. We usually mix rice and beans (I personally just put my beans over the rice), and we add whatever on the side of the plate to go with the rice and beans. Eggs, chicken, meat, salad, whatever. That's your typical Brazilian lunch and dinner

@@AA-bz1pr most people that drink coffee regularly use a coffee maker that does all the work. It takes longer to use an electric kettle and make a pour over coffee than it does to use a keurig, though a pour over would probably be better.

For the record, we do have electric kettles in the US, they're just not terribly popular. I've had one for years that was purchased at a US store, and I couldn't live without it! Haha!
Never seen an electric kettle in any residence I've ever been in in any of my 26 years in the US. Doesn't mean they're not here, of course, but they are definitely not overly popular. I've seen coffee makers in just about every residence, on the contrary.
As an American I wholeheartedly apologize about the one woman incorrectly making tea. Unlike her, I make sure to use a kettle and add my milk after steeping my tea

Also most private schools aren’t public schools, public schools are specifically schools like Eton, Harrow etc. They’re more selective, tend to have a longer history and are still strongly associated with the ‘upper classes’ compared to private/independent schools. So all public schools are private but not all private schools are public.

Tea just isn't popular among most populations in the states. We never had tea in my house growing up. My parents would brew coffee all day and drink black coffee well into the evening. My first experience (and most Americans, I'd say) with tea is with iced sweet tea, Arizona sweet tea to be precise. As a kid, I thought only English people drank it hot 😂

I got one a long time ago, but almost never used it. When I needed hot water, a glass measuring cup and microwave did the trick, so the electric kettle stayed in the back of the cupboard.

I can believe that. My family has a corner in the kitchen where we keep our teas, hot chocolate packets and our good ol electric kettle. I know that thing has seen its use through my college years when i ate mostly Ramen cups and yakisoba packs.
I don't know if you'd really call it a kettle but my family has a Tea Maker, like a Coffee Maker, it does the same thing, just, with tea instead, works the exact same way basically.
I'm an American, I DO have an electric kettle, and I don't drink any tea lol. It's a game changer for boiling water for pasta though, it boils in a minute then you put it in the pot and just start cooking.

@@ymarkone I'm an American ex-pat that's lived in the UK for 23 years. When I first got here it was very frustrating because so many words were off but just a little bit. But not enough to stick in my mind enough to make it easy to pick all of them up quickly. Now, many years later I often forget if what I'm saying is British or American and I jokingly tell people that I'm still learning English but I speak American fluently.

They are pretty good for boiling eggs too. Fill it about 1/3rd with water, throw the eggs in (OK, place the eggs in GENTLY!), turn it on. Come back in 18-20 minutes. Job done.
To be fair, I don't live in England nor America but in our country we have electric kettle. It's available in every hotel room across the country simply because its function. Not only to drink tea, but it's also can be used to make instant cup noodles, instant porridge, or anything that's need hot water. So you guys American definitely missed something 😅
The thing is most american houses have stoves and microwaves, having an electric kettle is useless to us. Also we do have them we just don't have them in every home becuase we don't ever need them in every home. I've bought one specifically when I went to college to have in my dorm room.

You guys only have 120V, which means you don't get to have the most practical aspect of having an electric kettle - speed.

In the south we drink alot of tea, but it is sweetened iced tea. And on the electric kettle thing, the closest thing we have to that is the traditional tea kettle over a fire or on the stove.

@@victorlee1239 They're just not sold in our stores that often. I work retail in the US and my store only has maybe two brands of a kettle and it is not electric. It's the classic whistle kind. Our stock says we usually only have four of each brand's kettle. And I'd say my store (big chain in USA too) gets 1.2k people per day in a rural city.

Tea just isn't popular among most populations in the states. We never had tea in my house growing up. My parents would brew coffee all day and drink black coffee well into the evening.
My first experience (and most Americans, I'd say) with tea is with iced sweet tea, Arizona sweet tea to be precise. As a kid, I thought only English people drank it hot 😂

2:37 to *me* innit is “isn’t it” which would be used in a question, you wouldn’t say “I love pizza” and answer with “innit” because that’s saying “I love pizza, isn’t it” basically “innit”is “isn’t it” which can be replaced with “is it” or “ain’t it” which are all questions, also innit can be used at the start of a sentence like when your asking something like “isn’t it Tuesday?” = “innit Tuesday” a questions thats asking for an answer, honestly to me having innit at the start of a sentence is like wanting an answer and having it after the sentence is like a low chance of an answer but I think if you start with the question word people will more likely listen because they now know they have to respond but having it at the back of the sentence people may have not caught attention that you want an answer because you start with a statement that with one word turned into a question or a confident statement that your now questioning yourself on if it’s actually Tuesday. I mean, we DO actually have electric kettles. They're just not a staple in homes. But they do actually exist, lol. I used one in college (and used the hot water to make my ramen too). I also enjoyed the American accents at the end, they sound so Southern to me, lol.
I got one a long time ago, but almost never used it. When I needed hot water, a glass measuring cup and microwave did the trick, so the electric kettle stayed in the back of the cupboard.

Depends on the household. If it's a tea-drinking family, there's almost definitely an electric kettle in the kitchen .
I can believe that. My family has a corner in the kitchen where we keep our teas, hot chocolate packets and our good ol electric kettle. I know that thing has seen its use through my college years when i ate mostly Ramen cups and yakisoba packs.

I don't know if you'd really call it a kettle but my family has a Tea Maker, like a Coffee Maker, it does the same thing, just, with tea instead, works the exact same way basically.

I'm an American, I DO have an electric kettle, and I don't drink any tea lol. It's a game changer for boiling water for pasta though, it boils in a minute then you put it in the pot and just start cooking.

@@ymarkone I'm an American ex-pat that's lived in the UK for 23 years. When I first got here it was very frustrating because so many words were off but just a little bit. But not enough to stick in my mind enough to make it easy to pick all of them up quickly. Now, many years later I often forget if what I'm saying is British or American and I jokingly tell people that I'm still learning English but I speak American fluently.

@@Alusnovalotus I'm trying!! Actually have an electric kettle, so they do make them in 110 volt. Not sure I've ever seen one in another house that isn't a fellow ex-pat though. They are pretty good for boiling eggs too. Fill it about 1/3rd with water, throw the eggs in (OK, place the eggs in GENTLY!), turn it on. Come back in 18-20 minutes. Job done.

To be fair, I don't live in England nor America but in our country we have electric kettle. It's available in every hotel room across the country simply because its function. Not only to drink tea, but it's also can be used to make instant cup noodles, instant porridge, or anything that's need hot water. So you guys American definitely missed something 😅
The thing is most american houses have stoves and microwaves, having an electric kettle is useless to us. Also we do have them we just don't have them in every home becuase we don't ever need them in every home. I've bought one specifically when I went to college to have in my dorm room.
@@AlphaNinjaFTW1 I mean, pretty much every kitchen has a stove in the UK and most will have a microwave too but we still have a kettle because it is *a lot* faster at boiling water, but that's also because our appliances are 240V. You guys only have 120V, which means you don't get to have the most practical aspect of having an electric kettle - speed.

And then since we have them we might as well use them to boil water for pasta and noodles e.t.c. as well. Hence they've become an essential appliance not just in the UK but all over the world.

In the south we drink alot of tea, but it is sweetened iced tea. And on the electric kettle thing, the closest thing we have to that is the traditional tea kettle over a fire or on the stove.

@@victorlee1239 They're just not sold in our stores that often. I work retail in the US and my store only has maybe two brands of a kettle and it is not electric. It's the classic whistle kind. Our stock says we usually only have four of each brand's kettle. And I'd say my store (big chain in USA too) gets 1.2k people per day in a rural city.
