    Dave I’m 73 years old and starting lifting when I was 13 years old with a pipe and concrete filled cans on the end . I’m a retired CPA and I still lift 5 to 6 days a week and I never quit learning better ways to train my body for total strength gains . You and John Meadows are my go to you tube videos for knowledge and inspiration. Thanks to you and John Meadows for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. You both are a asset to your trade and business. I just last week ordered and received my SSYOKE bar from your company and it’s by far one of the best bars I have in my private gym.

    Hopefully Chad Wesley Smith doesn't take this the wrong way and discontinue his critique. It was educational and useful; so is Dave's.

    A channel called PowerliftingToWin did some awesome analyses of several of the most popular programs out there. I'm glad Chad is doing it too. It's a cool concept. I really like Dave ideas for additions to the content (partner necessary?, equipment to buy?, can it be done at a commercial gym? etc). That would be a welcomed addition for sure!

    I love that he doesn't give his view on something he doesn't know much about. no we know he has an idea of what Westside is doing. but because he isn't there he keeps his mouth shut. soc many people give comments on systems they have no idea about. Or give their
    opinion based on their own goals and not what the program is designed for.

    • @Gallagher.661

      He mostly kept his mouth shut on it because westside is very specific to the gym. You may train a conjugate system, but if you are not in westside barbell, you are literally not doing westside because of how much they change and utilize their principles in their own way.

    I like Dave's stance on this one and his attitude in general. Having said that, I think that he should have adressed the main critique that Chad and Mike had, which is exercise selection and specificity for raw powerlifting. Since the program reviews by PowerliftingToWin's Izzy, this was always the main point that stuck out for me, why I would not choose a pure westside program. I'm sure he has something really valuable to say about this and I would love to hear it!

      Dave noted he can't because he hasn't trained at WSBB in 10 years and can't comment on what they do if he doesn't know for sure. He also said in the 14 years he was there more than 100 things changed (there is an article on these at Elitefts where this video is posted within an article). He can't comment based on what he doesn't know.

    Dave: good to see you taking the high road. While I don't think Westside style training is the be all end all and I don't like how Louie comes off as in interviews, I personally think that Wesley Chad Smith was off in his assessment. Specifically, and you hinted towards this, he seems to think that phasic training is only doable with monolithic blocks. Izzy Narvaez (Powerlifting to win) has a much more objective and complete assessment of Westside, and not one of his critiques have ANYTHING to do with phases, and, if I recall, has to do with the lack of value of speed work in increasing rate of force production, the lack of progressive volume, and general lack of value for raw powerlifting. I'd hoped you'd address the value of speed work, among other critiques, especially considering well known ex-Westside lifters have dropped speedwork. The value of Prilepin's chart, considering it was made for Olympic lifting which has no to little eccentric work, is another questionable element for powerlifting.

    PowerliftingToWin has an amazing playlist with in depth analysis of many popular programs and a free ebook with his own programming ideals including a novice and intermediate program. He's extremely underrated in this community I think.

      You see that recommending this guy here will just make people hate you. Elitefts are big advocates of speed work and the conjugate method... Izzy says otherwise and he is right, speed work doesn't play a role in powerlifting for numerous reasons and it has been proved many times, only in specific sports.

    • @eliteftsofficial
      @eliteftsofficial  8 лет назад +7

      +Jan Marxen if you read Elitefts you will see we are advocates of educating people about training to help them to make better choices in how they train themselves, clients and athletes. We publish over 1000 pages a month with articles, blogs and QA. Some are advocates of the dynamic effort method and others are not. Just because we don't bash it doesn't mean everyone agrees about it or many other aspects of training.

      +Jan Marxen if speed work and the conjugate method in general doesn't play a role in powerlifting then why does that method produce some of the strongest powerlifters in the world? Both raw and geared

    What do you think about working out for older people.
    Is it better to lift weights and stretch and do the basic practical main lifts bench, squats ,deads ,press or do weird strange awkward functionality movements. I think some functionality stiff can be good if your already strong and its not a dangerous exercise but other than that i think they will hurt you. It seems to be better to build strength doing the classic exercises and stretching then branch out from there
