Good video, I would also suggest while working on nut slots you use your tuner, as an example take the a string be sure it's in perfect tune, play the 1st fret b flat check tuner it will show flat, sharp or right on, if it's right on go to next string if it's sharp you can cut slot a little more till it's perfect if it's too low you've gone too far need to start over,
Is a radius gauge necessary if you just adjust each string as low as you can go without buzz? Aren't all the strings relative to whichever one has the lowest action?
0.010 is too much relief. 0.005 is pretty good, but the frets need to be well leveled. Also, relief should be measured between 1st fret and the fret that you will be playing, check relief at the 8th or 9th fret.
thick strings (4, 5, 6) should not lie deep in the cut, they should be half “in the air”... i.e. I would remove this threshold and redo it.. sorry.. :- )
Absolutely wrong. I always adjust with strings on and tuned to whatever the person wants. String tension plays a big role in neck relief. So you can spend all that time setting up then tune strings and it be completely wrong. Every guitar reacts differently to string tension.

This is one of the best setup tutorials I've seen.
Wow excellent video!
I always put graphite on the bridge and nut to eliminate string friction and keeps the strings lubricated.
Just a tip I earned .
Excellent video David.
Thanks a lot for the wonderful tutorial, important tips and great education!!!
You're very welcome!
Awesome setup video! Made a daunting task seem simple
Like all my necks straight by eye . Works very well ! Locking Tuners are Game Changer ..
Thanks so much. Great instruction.
looking for the best tutorial in doing this, & this is the best one. 👍
Thank you. Awesome job teaching.
Phenomenal job with this = clear, concise and easy to understand. I Hit Like.
excellent video. i wish you would have checked first fret tuning with open and 12th. thats where i usually have problem.
If you were setting string height on a compound radius fretboard, what would you do? Say it was 12” to 16” would you use a 12 or 16 string gauge?
I was taught to tune the guitar with the weight off the neck. I noticed when he filed the lower E it was tuned with the weight on the neck.
Thnkq 🙏

Would like the same tutorial for acoustic guitars 😊
Umm it is the SAME! WTH?
@@DMSProduktions except the bridge
@@pascalauzias5636 Same principle applies, but the bridge is fixed, but they are usually compensated somewhat!

You can get to the same place either way, but the radius gage usually gets you there faster
I have a fixed bridge, but the high E wont make it to the pich since it is to high, what should I do ?
Why is it that Fender always has such great intonation and action?
Leo was an engineer who happened to build guitars, and made the perfect instrument.
You can get that on any guitar, you need to do all the steps before this setup. This is the final step on a guitar.
INFINITY CAT MUG SIGHTED!
Long live DP and long live everyone I know!
What should you do if the strings sit too low in the nut? Obviously you can file down if too high, but you can't add more of the nut back?
3 Options = replace the nut, shim the nut, baking soda & glue trick. Do some research on internet and you will learn each option.
Baking soda and super glue.
👍
this is the est setup video
I have to say, not every guitar needs relief. Some people like myself like perfectly straight necks.
What a mm string action strings E1 and E6. I dont understand cal.

The drum advertisement in the middle is offensive- we have plenty of information, thanks
Never adjust the neck without losing the strings.
I’ve never heard anyone else agree with that.
Makes no difference, an old wives tale!
