    Good ol Russel Fairfax, my PE teacher, we also had Des O'Reily as a science teacher. Fairfax was a great guy.

    The Mark Harris try against Balmain at the S.C.G. Balmain won that match. That would have been the only Eastern Suburbs try. There was a dog running around amongst the players at another point in that match. And the Balmain try against Parramatta. It was Parramatta who won that, 14 to 10, said to be their most courageous win of the year..

    The final try in this video at a packed Leichhardt Oval is a belter. That’s rugby league.

    The Terry Hill try against West's got voted try of the year. Unfortunately it was such a thrashing by then that Rex's enthusiasm had long gone.

      @@eagleeric2598 No this Terry Hill only ever scored 1 try for Manly in 1976. He played 23 games over 5 seasons for them from 72 to 76. The other Terry Hill would have only been 4 years old at the time.

      That was the official try of the year ? Well. the real actual try of the year was Russel Gartner against Eastern Suburbs at the S.C.G. [ A match won by one point by Eastern Suburbs ].

    You know, people claimed Manly was a one man side with Fulton, I disagree. Graeme Eadie was far and away their best Fulton was brilliant, Gartner Gibbs Randall Norton Stevens Krilich Martin Thompson( a man who stayed waaaay under the radar) and the rest. Still remember that year. All Parramatta could do was score tries from bombs. Probably why Glover couldn't catch it in the GF because it was actually passed to him. BTW for all the people who criticised Glover, you got it wrong, blame your half-back and hooker for giving away scrum penalties in easy kicking distance ( you could shoot for goal from scrum penalties back then)

      @macca520 at the time, didn't we think what are going to do when he left. Just goes to show what has happened with similar stories at other clubs. Bennett got rid of Wally Lewis from the Broncos and the rest is history.

      Good contributions from pommie Phil Lowe a few times in there! Hull KR player i think

      @Paininthrneck 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@johntate5722 unfortunately Phill Lowe instigated the ban on English players coming to Australia when he packed up and went home for reasons unknown. It caused such a furore that they put a ban on English imports. Lowe was a powerhouse when and IF he could hold the ball. Apparently he had such bad arthritis in his fingers that he could not bend them and as a result he would drop the ball a lot. Seems weird that a guy with arthritis would want to go back to cold old England.

    • @Paininthrneck
      @Paininthrneck 11 месяцев назад

      @@eagleeric2598 tell you what, it's amazing how people worried about him leaving then 2 years later we won the GF. I really think Fulton leaving was a blessing as it unlocked other players talents. I remember an article where Russell Gartner was contemplating leaving if Fulton didn't. There were rumours, of course of players fighting with him ( one big one about him and Ray Branighan having a punch up on the end of season trip). How true they are we'll never know, but hey, footies all about rumours.
