The Panthers had a great back line in the 70's. My favourite team...

Wests were strong as well in the 90s then before you could blink they were gone. Their partnership with the Broncos was the kiss of death.

The Western Suburbs Panthers my team and always will be. I love the Crowd as well,What I wouldn't give to see these numbers at a BRL/QRL
    Grand Final.
Fatty Vautin would of been 17 years old so he would of been playing U17 Wests Panthers and Padua First Xlll.

Brisbane clubs should have been allowed to join the nrl instead of forming the broncos.
Its sad how Brisbane has just as many Rugby League clubs as Melbourne an AFL city.

The Broncos was about the old NSWRL killing off the BRL, which was emerging as a serious competitor and expanding from 8 to 12 teams and attracting interest from an increasing amount of league fans beyond Queensland, and making the most money out of Queensland’s talent. The NSWRL invited a team from Brisbane to their competition, the negotiations with the QRL go nowhere, then a private consortium with millions behind them emerged with their own bid and sign the best squad from the BRL. Then the Queensland media over-reported the Broncos and ignored the BRL, the BRL clubs start losing gate revenues and the TV coverage loses advertising revenues and the Brisbane clubs can’t hold on to their players. Over time the competition just died out.
And stupid Brisbanite’s just let this happen and worship the Broncos! I agree that it is absurd how a city with more than 2.5 million people and where league enjoys mainstream popularity has only the one club, while there’s a club for crappy little Cronulla-Sutherland, a backwater on the outskirts of Sydney, and a club for both Melbourne/Victoria and Auckland/New Zealand where rugby league is a minor sport. The greater Brisbane should either have 4-5 teams in the NRL, or should just have its own independent professional competition again.
