So much more entertaining than today's game! Maybe not as slick, but much better.

Great old school match. Artie Beetson an absolute beast of a player fantastic ball skills for such a big man.. Great skills from Roger the dodger both now sadly gone. Ged Dunn and esp Keith Fielding sure could trap a bit like catching pigeons. Not sure about some of the high stuff by todays standards and bit of good ole biff. Great stuff thanks for the upload.

Played for Hull KR back in 78..broke his leg in the Christmas day derby against Hull.

That was brutal. Both sides could have used an organiser. Talk about hand to hand combat.

Nice interpretation of the 'Knock on' rule by the Ref ... cracker of a game though. Despite having 'Immortals' like Langlands, Fulton and Beetson on the field, plus an absolute legend like Tommy Radaunikis - I'm tossing up between Ron Coote and Mick Cronin for my Man of the Match. Coote was awesome running onto the ball like a freight train all game and staunch defence with some nice grass cutters from a big bloke, but how bloody good was Mick Cronin in this game?? He was like the 'big Mal' Meninga of his day in this game - and the kicking as well ;)
Thanks for the upload - its great to see a good decent copy of an old game to show the great skills of the legends of the pre-1980's we heard about but never got to see play in their prime. I know other copies of old games are uploaded but the quality of them is a bit iffy at best. This was fantastic and the commentary was brilliant as well. Cheers!

The commentator is John O'Reilly if I'm not mistaken...

@14:15: cripes Coote was fast for a lock (off a magic ball from Beetson). Australian forwards dominated but the backs couldn't finish it off. Cronin to Anderson passing was a mess. They were a better chance to win with Fulton instead of Pickup at 5-8 and bringing in that year's Rothman's medallist Rogers into the centres - if the selectors are still alive they should be retired.

When Artie Beetson is hit by a head high tackle there is only a caution and penalty kick……….Suspect today it would be a send off followed by 6 match suspension……..____😳

Great game. Thank you so much for sharing this. Also you wouldn't happen to have the 1974 Ashes test between the Kangaroos and Great Britain by any chance would you?

Chang at fullback one of the greatest.

Second best behind Slater and ahead of Churchill, at least Langlands could score tries.

Sadly looked after Changa in his later years.

The referring was pitiful Lew Platz I almost forgot how bad a player he was. Changa could still play coat hangers were still plentiful. Tommy Radonikus never changed what a tireless player he was.

Back when British players could tackle! England were outclassed in this match (lucky to get a draw) but they were a damn sight better than GB teams in the years ahead, think of the pathetic displays of '82, '84, '86.

1979 Lions tour of Australia was a similar pathetic display. Seemed to all start from there.

Those 80's games were embarrassing to watch...the gulf between the two sides was enormous.

Yes but they won the return clash in Wigan of that tournament.

It's not England , it's GB . There is at least one Scottish player in there , fairbairn

      It was not Great Britain.
In the 1975 tournament England and Wales competed separately.
Fairbairn qualified for England because of his English born father.

Its amazing Australia could not beat those hacks. Perciville was an awful referee. Lot of high tackling. Not sure why they were playing Pickup.

That england team were slow and looked very untalented. Its anazing this team couldnt destroy them .
Although this team , i think wasnt near as good as the 82 team that had eric groth , kenny and meninga in it
