All great tries. Lomu against Australia in 2000 THAT GAME! Was at the Lions game, Carter was magical that night. Favourite is JK against Italy, Was there as a young 14 year old, Watched as he tore through them. That's my number 1.
The poster of this needs to find footage of Ian Kirkpatrick try against the 1971 Lions. A forward from either just inside the Lions half or possibly just inside the All Black half all the way to the try line by himself discarding defenders all the way. I think the greatest forward try in the last 70yrs, anywhere in the world.Stands above the famous Gareth Edward’s “forward pass “ try in my estimation, because it was one man through much of the opposition. Find it if you can, you wont be disappointed.
Kirkpatrick acknowledged that the try against the '71 Lions was probably his best-known but always considered his most important try was in the Second Test against the Springboks in 1970, when the Al Blacks won by one point.
So many great AB's try's over the years. Hard to pick from them all. From that list my favourites are that Christian Cullen try due to the amazing set move to bamboozle the Aussies. I was bamboozled just watching it! Also Dan Carters #1. Dan in that Lions game was the most amazing individual performance I think I've ever seen.
I know lists like this are subjective, but I think Beauden's try against France in New Plymouth in 2013 would fit in this list. It did get World Rugby try of the year after all...
Right? Lots of great tries missed from this. It’s a start at least at trying to actually use RUclips to promote the game rather than shut everything down instantly.
These videos hit me like a dying language that I happen to know from my childhood. Rugby, the sport of my youth, with great moments like this captured on film but never more to be seen. Times change.
That was a small fraction of the great tries. Could have had the same time slot but just Christian cullen tries,or Carter,Howlett,Umanga,Lomu, etc etc etc
How many all blacks do they name each year? like 28 or something I'm not sure. But if you live in a country with 5 million people and are selected in that small group of elite players multiple times to play the countries most important sport at the absolute highest level, you are rated.
Even if i am a Springbok supporter, I must say that the All Blacks have some of the best tries in history. They are the only team that makes me nervous and on the edge of my seat when they play South Africa. My 5 favourite All Black players of all time: J. Lomu, Carter, Cullen, Sony Bill Williams and Richie Mcaw ....
We never fear the Springboks cause they don't know how to score tries. Progressing in lots of three is hard work against the All Blacks. France like the All Blacks progress in lots of seven. This is how you play rugby. The way it was intended. Run, pass, and score tries, not maul, clear, and await cards or penalties. Weak rugby Kiwis don't respect or fear.
Number 4 - definitely the greatest try in All Black history. There are 2 that feature in Christian Cullen's show reel against Australia that I would rank in the top ten NZ tries ... one after a kick to Zinzan Brooke, who throws a long pass to Cullen who steps George Gregan a couple of times to score under the post. There's a long range try by John Kirwan against Australia that certainly ranks, and another where Andrew Mehrtens runs the blind side from a scrum in his own half and sets up a great try, again versus Australia. Also! Jonah's try against France where he was black pinball bouncing off blue jerseys, including Benazzi, who Jonah throws off like a fly.
