I've got the dodge version of this van and it's no slouch, They come with 285HP right from the factory so they can get out of their own way when you put your foot in it. Depending on what engine is in the Police Explorer… the non-turbo V6 is going to have similar power as the T&C van, but weigh more. The turbo V6 Explorer will have a substantially more power but still be heavier.
Those Ford Police SUVs are rather gutless as I have seen two minivans run away from them and yesterday a Hyundai Elantra driven by a 17 year old thoroughly humiliated a couple of pursuit Ford SUVs.
I'm guessing you've seen the pursuit where a crown vic was one of the first cars the entire time, practically drifting at one point. One of the dashcams caught an officer saying something to the effect of "damn, whoever's in that crown vic can drive!"
When I started, we were just phasing out the Ford Fairlane. The emergency light were had on it were stupidly insufficient. Then we started using the Ford Crown Vics. Best pursuit vehicle we used. Kept upgrading the emergency lights and sirens. Just as everything was going great, Ford in its infinite wisdom, discontinued the Crown Vics and brought in the SUVs. Luckily, I never drove one. People told me that they loved them for the room inside of them, but acceleration was lacking.
Most police Explorers have anemic natural-aspired V6 engines. The twin-turbo Ecoboost 4 banger engine will SMOKE that V6, & the twin-turbo Ecoboost V6 will smoke most V8s. Once again, the bean-counters saved a few pesos, & neutered the police SUVs in the process.
First name basis, not Joe’s first rodeo. Gotta say Joe’s got a good mechanic to be able to keep that old Caravan is such fine shape after what must be many pursuits. He must have been whipping that poor van time and again yet it’s in fine enough shape to cover ground pretty well.
You KNOW you've led a lousy life when the Deputies know your name. Also, dude just got out of jail? Maybe they should keep him there from now on? Clearly he's a danger to society.
I own one of these vans and i knew they were really fast for what they are, but i didn't think they could blow the doors off of a police explore that bad. lol
