Right after the Nystrom goal in overtime, the scoreboard above the ice at NASSAU COLISEUM
kept flashing the words, '' IT'S OURS '' over and over and over again !
As i was busy celebrating, completely overcome with euphoric extacy by the
sheer magnitude of that phenomenal and glorious goal, i saw the tv screen showing
the scoreboard flash those words '' IT'S OURS, IT'S OURS, '' again and again.
At that precise instant, i told everybody at the portuguese pool hall in Montreal,
screaming right at the top of my lungs, '' DAMMED RIGHT IT'S OURS, BABY !
AND NOBODY CAN TAKE IT AWAY FROM US ! NOT EVEN THOSE DREADED FLYERS !! ''
From there, everybody came up to congratulate me with warm hugs, and HIGH FIVES !
A truly memorable, and magical experience that i will take directly with me to my
    grave ! I GUARANTEE IT !!

guys, at a local pool hall in MONTREAL, where i nearly gave everybody in the
place, a MASSIVE HEART ATTACK, caused by my euphoric victory scream when
Nystrom sealed the Cup - clinching goal for the Islanders, at 7 : 11 of

    • @georgevila1778
      @georgevila1778 4 месяца назад +1

9294 : Saturday May 24, 1980. The only time in my life, that i was MISTAKENLY
arrested by officers of the Montreal Police Department along with my
younger brother, for an incident that we have NEVER commited to begin with.

    • @georgevila1778
      @georgevila1778 4 месяца назад +1

9294 : Thanks to the help of the portuguese guys who were there, the
arresting officers realized the error of their ways, and gladly released us
appologizing to my brother and me in the process, and proceeded to
arrest the REAL TROUBLEMAKERS, who were coming out of a greek bakery
across the street, which our portuguese friends pointed them out to the
officers, who were walking towards their patrol car.
This is precisely why i always remember the day that Islanders took home, their
first - ever NHL Championship. Mainly as a result of that near - nightmarish
experience which my brother and me both endured personally, that unforgettable
Saturday afternoon in May of 1980.

    • @georgevila1778
      @georgevila1778 4 месяца назад

9294 : Another important element about the incident, was the fact
that as the officers were escorting my brother and me towards the
squad car, the portuguese guys were yelling at the cops to STOP,
because they systematically arrested the WRONG SUSPECTS.
Besides, everybody recognized me immediately since 2 hours earlier,
i nearly gave everybody at the pool hall a massive HEART ATTACK,
when NYSTROM struck the Cup - clinching winning goal for the ISLANDERS,
at 7 : 11 of Sudden - Death - Overtime, with my euphoric Stanley Cup victory
      scream.

    • @georgevila1778
      @georgevila1778 4 месяца назад

9294 : This is precisely why the police made their mistake in arresting us,
as the wrong individuals. It's a good thing, the portuguese dudes, immediately
recognized me from the euphoric celebration, i single - handedly caused.
Otherwise, God only knows what horrific surprises awaited us at police
headquarters, that fateful May afternoon in 1980.

a wedding reception, went upstairs to an office that had a TV set and watched our
CANADIENS defeat the LOS ANGELES KINGS in Game - 3 of the 1993 Stanley Cup
Final, on JOHN LECLAIR'S winning goal in overtime. The entire hall errupted in

He was watching game 6 on tv in his bedroom at his childhood farmhouse in Barrhead Alberta and my grandpa was mad because he wanted my dad to come help with farmwork. It was a beautiful day in Cranbrook, B.C. that afternoon I was about to start my shift in the local 5 star INN. I walked into the lounge where the game was being watched by some regulars and the OT was just starting. Those years the Canadians were the team the Islanders had bounced for playoff supremacy. It was hard to watch but if you loved hockey you had to love what you saw in the islanders. Back to the game, the banter was who would score the winner? When everyone looked to me for a response, I said Nystrom, he is due. Hearing his story about putting a notch in his stick must have cosmically connected with me. The look on the faces of all when he scored, I was a hockey genius and strutted out of the room.

As a Boston Bruins fan second, and a TRUE hockey fan first, i have to agree with those who say this is the greatest dynasty. My favorite tidbit about this team is that they had a different player win the conn smythe trophy every year. That shows how much they relied on TEAM.
Just to add on... Alot of us forget about the team they were playing... Philly had a mini dynasty 4 years earlier. They won two in a row and then lost to the fledgling Canadiens dynasty. They were hungry and filled with vets who wouldn't go away easily. That two goal lead for NYI at the end of the second was NOTHING for them to worry about.
It says a lot for the isles to pull thru as well after being one period away from winning and then having to go to OT.
If Flyers win game 6 and send it back to Philly, there may not be a NYI dynasty.

@Drew-vn8rx : Him and my former street neighbour, the late MIKE BOSSY ended
their remarkable careers with the NEW YORK ISLANDERS, having never played for
      another NHL franchise team.

@Drew-vn8rx : I am quite certain that many hockey fans today, still remember
vividly Billy Smith's infamous stick swing that struck Wayne Gretzky's leg,
right in front of the Islanders net during Game - 2, of the 1983 Stanley Cup
Finals at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton.
However, being the gracious sportsman that he trully is, Smith eventually
delivered his personal apologies to THE GREAT ONE, as the 2 teams lined up
for the traditional post - series handshake at center ice, immediately after
the Isles dominant 4 game sweep of the young Oilers, a few nights later
at Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday night May 17, 1983.
Gretzky himself, graciously accepted Smith's apology which deeply moved
many fans in the arena, and in living room homes across the continent, that
unforgettable evening, exactly 41 years ago in Uniondale, New York.

@Drew-vn8rx : However, at the end of Game - 4, the vanquished Oilers walked right
past the Stanley Cup champion Islanders dressing room, and noticed that the
vast majority of Al Arbour's men were completely exhausted, covering their
injured bodies with ice packs rather than wildly celebrating their brilliant
      defence of the sacred treasure.
This unexpected dissplay prompted Gretzky in suggesting to Coach Sather
and his fellow teammates that the demonstration itself gave the Oilers, the
exact kind of motivated inspiration they successfully used, to end the 4
year Islander reign, by dethroning them of their precious chalice
which is precisely what happened the following season in Game - 5 of
the Stanley Cup Final, contested before a raucous and extremely noisy
crowd of over - exuberant Oilers fanatics, assembled at Northlands Coliseum
in Edmonton on Saturday night May 19, 1984.

@JTupp96 : Nystrom's Cup - clinching overtime goal in 1980, is now regarded by fans as
one of the most memorable Stanley Cup winning goals, ever produced in modern NHL
      history.

@JTupp96 : Nystrom appeared in the final game of his remarkable 14 year -
career as a member of the New York Islanders on Saturday April 12, 1986
against the visitng Washington Capitals, at Nassau Coliseum. After taking
the openning face - off and skate around for 5 short seconds, the man
affectionally known by his adoring fans as MR. ISLANDER, returned to the
bench, never to play another NHL game for the rest of his life.
Sadly, Islanders lost that final game of the 1985 - 86 season, 3 - 1.
Even though they made the playoffs, Al Arbour's boys were quickly
exited in the Division Semi - Finals, by the Washington Capitals.
The same team who defeated the Isles in the final game of
the regular season several days earlier, lossing the series in only
      3 short games.
