I was at that game vs Colorado. Old barn was never louder. No cups on the island without him. You can’t teach what he brought. Forever an inspiration. And he also broke my mask at the old cantiaque park rink in a scrimmage. Lol. Such a great guy too.
As im here reading all these comments (good and bad) im literally sitting beside tonellis brother who im great friends with reading these comments about his brother. A pint. A cheer. To a great career. And his brother right beside me is as proud as can be. Amazing.
John Tonelli's speech was as exuberant and intense as his play on the ice. What a great speech JT and well deserved. Class all the way. LET'S GO ISLANDERS!!!
John Tonelli has provided the most thrilling moments in sports history that I have ever seen. What a tremendous clutch player. So truly deserving of having his #27 raised to the rafters. Thank you John for such wonderful memories. His comment about Butch Goring was right on the money. God bless JT, and again thank you for the wonderful memories. And I second Jiggs McDonald's final comments.
OMG, I hated those Islander teams and hated Tonelli, only because they won so much. Tonelli played so hard. He always seemed to be the guy to rip out your heart when you were cheering against him. He deserves to have his jersey retired. Congrats John!
Life will do that to you. I'm 58 years old and does 1980 seem like it should be 40 years ago? Yikes! My mom is long gone, but we use to watch the playoffs together every year. She wasn't so much interested in hockey during the regular season, but seemed to take an interest come playoff time. I was 14 years old in 1975, That's when I came on board as a NYI fan.
@Eilliw Nodrog The good old days that saw the Islanders go to the semifinals 9 times in a 10-year span, and of course, 5 straight trips to the Stanley Cup Finals winning 4 straight times.
@Eilliw Nodrog If I remember correctly Tonelli said that he considers it to be to not just be his number but their number as he has likes the type of player that Lee has been in his career.
There are no Stanley Cups on Long Island without John Tonelli.
I was holding my 3 month old daughter in my arms for the goal, one of my fondest memories. Thank you, John. Let's get Jiggs up in the rafters too.
As a Rangers fan who watched his best years beat my team, I wish him nothing but congratulations and light. Well deserved.
You deserve this honor JT....one of the greatest to read the game ! LEGEND !
LET'S GO ISLANDERS !!!

I’m 23 years old, and never saw him play. I still had the chills the whole time.🏆🏆🏆🏆

Well deserved man! #27 tonelli was one of my favorites growing up
When they were playing all of Tonellis highlights as they raised the banner, I got goosebumps.

Glad to see it. No one was tougher than him. But it is sad to see how old they have gotten

Solid John. Should also do Bob Bourne and Ken Morrow.
@Willie Gordon Yup Goring too.
Butch is next! *#91*
ed westfall number 18 should of been in the rafters years ago and its a shame its still not
I'm so glad they retired JT's #27. He always came through, especially when assisted on Bobby Nystroms Stanley Cup Winning goal.
Great Islander and a Great Toronto Marlboro Jr player.
Why did it take 30 years?
Stagger Lee
Ownership was disgraceful for many years.
No one is can win 4 cups in a row let alone 1 cup truly amazing.
I mean now no one is winning cups in a row

Ever heard of the Penguins?
Even from Rangerstown it's hard not to respect Tonelli
Should have been done years ago.
Can we just acknowledge ross johnston’s black eye. I’m crying in laughter
The real JT! #Tonelli27
The only Good JT.... not you Tavares.
Labrador 67 cry
Shut up
👍👍👍❤❤❤
What tune is that at 06:38 as the current islanders walk out.
If you’re still wondering 9 months later it’s Sugar by Robin Schulz
@@mattcumiskey7653 I was so many thanks. 🙂👍
What about Anders lee does he change his number?
no
Will Lee still wear 27?
Yes Tonelli requested that Lee continued to wear the number
Yes

Where is Billy's hair wig?
He buried it with a 1000 empty Bud cans.
He. Mentioned bill Torrey in speech. But never thanked him. JT never got over the trade to Calgary. Torrey blind sided him with that trade .
Tonelli looks older than his mother
Wait but anders lee wears #27
They have an, "agreement"....
#22, why a no show? You were there for #91?
strange
