Moved from queens to Long Island as a 6 year old in 1980 just in time for the dynasty run…. These guys were larger than life to me and their poster was on my wall… incredible team

The last team to win at least three Stanley Cups in a row, and only the third team ever to win at least four successive Cups; feats unmatched even over four decades later.
They overcame every obstacle to win 19 playoff consecutive playoff series. Even the awesome 1976-79 Canadiens come in second in that category, having won 13 series in a row.
As for the Oilers, they were not the only team to win five Cups in seven seasons. They were actually the third to do it.
    Toronto did it first. 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951.
    Montreal was second. 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971.
But powerful kings rule for a consecutive number of years; they don't get usurped and then return to the throne. The Islanders were kings.
It will take a while before anybody matches the Islanders' success, if it ever happens at all.

I wish I could watch them. Such a special team in the 80s!

I'd say the Oilers right after the Islanders were a dynasty winning 5 cups in a 7 year span.

I know it's not dynasty talk but can/will the Oilers extend the cup final series to 7 games?

The dynasty ended as it aged out and torrey even with patty L. falling into isles laps at three in '83 couldn't re-plenish isles as drafts mid-'80's on went sour. Maloney and milbury continued the fall.

    Oilers weren't a dynasty? 🤔

I would consider them one but according to the nhl you need at least 3 cups in a row to be considered a dynasty.

The truth is the Islanders have not had a history of good owners - since day once. Even when they were winning the owner John Pickett was mis-managing and had no foresight. Too many players were allowed to stay past their prime. They wont in spite of Pickett - mainly because they drafted so well and developed and coached to the max.
