$40 vs. $20 UV Flashlight (uvBeast vs. Goliath Industry)

  • There is a ton of UV Flashlights to choose from on Amazon, from 9, 12, 51, to 100 LED. From the 100 LED category there are over 19 flashlights that frustratingly look identical. After hours of searching, I finally decided to go with uvBeast since it had the best reviews, pictures, and description.
    uvBeast ($41)
    a.co/8Z6crJZ
This flashlight of course was the most expensive out of the 100 LED category at about 30% more than the average price of a 100 LED Flashlight ($27.75). So to make sure I wasn’t being duped by great marketing and fake reviews, I decided to buy the cheapest, identical looking flashlight to the uvBeast-- which is Goliath Industry.
    Goliath Industry ($22)
    a.co/jgYDutI
Overall, I’m glad I went with the uvBeast. Though, I wonder if the 100 LED flashlights that are in the $30 range, marketed as “extra bright”, may be comparable to the uvBeast. (FYI, I noticed that the uvBeast price keeps fluctuating. I bought mine t for $43.)

You don't want a UV light to be very bright: the purple/pink visible light is not what is important it is the "black" or non-visible light that is emitted which is a lower wavelength and which enables you to see hidden things more clearly. However, the one's that do this are more expensive then both of those.

Nicely done video and comparison. Being that it's been almost 5 years since this was posted, it might be in-order to do a review of the "new" uvBeast V2 and the (apparently) current competitor which looks very much like it, the Kobra, both on Amazon. Regardless, you did a nice job on this video and the comparison and I thank you for the time and effort to make it.

Great comparison. I've wondered the same thing when i see 10 different brands for what appears to be the same product online.

I have the Version 2 of the UV beast, and it is fantastic for cleaning - pretty much a forensics grade UV light. I see they make a new "uvBeast V3 365nm" ; cost is higher, but so is performance. Would love to see a comparison of that vs the V2 version.

Great review. I've used the goliath and I suspect that not all of the leds are UV. The ones in the center are definitely UV, but the outside ring (blue light) are not as they do not illuminate urine until you shine the middle (dark purple light) on it.

what is the nm of these lights? not all uv lights are created equal. if you compare lights to other lights at least match the nm up. uv lights will come in different wavelengths. there are 365 nm uv lights 385 nm and 395 uv lights but i believe you can get them in other wavelengths. uv a uv c and uv x. all can do different things. like uv a are used in normal black lights and can also be used to cure compound resins, one of the other uv lights is destructive and is used to sterilize things like unpure water among other things.

First time watching your videos/channel. Wanted to mention couple things. One, when using UV anything, use eye protection, not as bad with lower wattage/power lights, but these ones would def cause some eye damage, I hope you didnt have your baby looking at the lights, cause could cause premature eye damage. Second, UV light is suppose to "black" until it hits a material that "glows" meaning if you can see it, it's in the spectrum at or above ~385-395nm, meaning you are wasting more power on higher NON-UV light. My guess, based solely on this video is the Goliath has more light in the UV range OR it's just weaker LED's. In either case, UV "brightness" is hard to compare with out proper equipment as the human eye cant detect the light spectrum range.

My LED flashlight cost $11.97 but I'm only using it for light.
4:39 now I want a UV flashlight. So I can find things that normally can't be seen. I don't know if Canadian money has a UV feature though.
    The $40 pee light.

    • @XoletteLife
      @XoletteLife  7 лет назад +1

GodlessManitoban I wouldn't be surprised if you had some UV markings on your money. I found UV markings on IDs, passports and big U.S. bills has different strips that light up. I think the $100 bill has a strip that glows red? Checks actually don't fluoresce under UV, but that's a good marker, because all papers fluoresces. You can also tell when a article of clothing is old, because synthetic fibers fluoresce and the detergent we use can also make it fluoresce. You could probably get a cheap keychain one LED UV light if you're curious! :)

Buy a convoy S2+ UV light and never look back!
They will beat the pants off of any of these large UVLED lights and they only have a single LED! It’s all about the wavelength. 365 nm is the way to go. And the convoy s2+ kicks ass for under $30…
Until you’re ready to buy a “way too cool“ brand mineral light. Looking at around $500 for one of those
Great video. I hope you’ll try convoy s2+ UV light… I think you will be impressed and prefer it over either one of these

FYI: the less coils in the spring and the further it’s spaced between the coils....the stronger and generally better quality of spring.
    Pinch a pen spring,
Cut it in half and stretch it out to its original length
Now pinch it....(it’ll be harder to do)
    Now throw away the pen
The more expensive one is leaking more general light. The other one is more filtered...it’s why you can see the strip better

Your comparison is flawed. After watching your video the UV BEAST is the clear winner. The wavelength is more consistent and the focus is spot on. During all your experiments the UVB clearly found the stain/pee with little to no searching, I fought you would've found a stain as fast with the other GI.
With that said. The UVB is the clear winner for people who require a UV light that can spot fluorescent material clearly and fast. The GI would clearly suet a hobbyist who knows where the general location of the fluorescent is and has control of the lighting conditions.
I use the UVB for spotting vehicle A/C refrigerant (r134a) in a fairly bright garage. When you're working on commission and the customer is waiting, seconds count.
Hope this helps for people deciding between the two.

I’m sorry but I had to stop watching the video because of the baby constantly crying throughout the entire video. It’s extremely annoying. Not sure why you would post this with that, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who couldn’t take it anymore and had to stop. I’m sure the video would’ve been very informative though. Good luck
