Hi everyone! I like all of your ideas on how to magnify the light! But the truth is that thermodynamically you cannot magnify a light beam to be brighter than its source, no matter what method you use. This even means that there is no method of magnification that could magnify the sunlight to be hotter than or brighter than the surface of the sun.
The Action Lab
The goal isn’t magnification, focused concentration. I’m thinking 2 complimentary Lens, and concentrate the 6” source to a pinpoint.
Larry Scott You can't do that because it's impossible to focus light to a pinpoint. All you can do is create a tiny image of the original light source.
Stupid first law of thermodynamics, ruining all our fun
Here is a perfect explanation of why it isn’t possible-what-if.xkcd.com/145/
I can put my laser through a lens to make it converge into a focal point, and it burns ALOT better at that focal point than it does without the lense. I think you need to try again.
Dude you are the best. Your passion for science has kept me hooked to u

Charlie bit me*.
قفشات الأفلام lmao
Which is suppose to be the mistake?
Camilo Montoya. The video title is "Charlie bit my finger", but in the video he says "Charlie bit me".
Some really interesting stuff! But I do worry about you going blind with that supersonic torch 😂
Supersonic?☠️
The ending was pretty cool.
"If you wanna burn something with a flashlight, you just put it as close to the source as possible" *puts this flashlight on full blast while its on one of my enemies*
Hey you didn't extend the video to 10 minutes for more ads
Mad respect to you man
Mr. Piebro why this is how he makes his living what is wrong with stretching it out to make more money
Declan Mercer nothing in particular, but adding 30 more seconds of nothing would've been unneeded
Mr. Piebro im just saying why is everyone hating on youtubers for making there vids 10 min when this is how they make a living
Declan Mercer Like I said, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. But if it's sacrificing the quality of the video, that means the creator prioritizes income over quality. That's when in becomes unwanted.
Mr. Piebro "income over quality" so you cant make a quality video just because its 10mins?...and im sure "quality" isnt going to pay bills smh. youll understand when you have to pay all of your own bills, hes probably getting money from patreon supporters which is why he doesnt have ads.
6:51. Gotta watchout for those Huggies Babies... they like to Bite!
Shining Asteris Luck lol
lol!

Further projects:
1. How thick body of water can you shine through or how bright can you shine through a really thick body of water?
2. How effective of a visual night-stealth suit is it when you apply Black 2.0 on a full body suit?
3. How dangerous of a laser gun can you turn that flashlight into?
4. How do animals react to objects that are covered in Black 2.0?
5. When you apply Black 2.0 on your clothes, how many 80's goths appear from the alleys and caverns?
I am all for "How Thicc" projects... 😏
Imagine if him pointing it at his wall started a housefire
A house fire wouldnt start cuz the wall is white
White reflects more light and black absorbs more light light
He had a fire extinguisher ready to go just in case.
This one boi flashlight is Brighter than My future :[.
LMAO but it'll b end of u stop deprecating ur self eh
Exponentially
Your future is ventablack. Lol
😂😂😂😂
Me too kid
Could you paint the bottom of a pan with black 2.0 and then fill it with water and see if flashlight would boil water
Guys let's support this person!
It won't make any difference between vanta black and a low cost black paint
*John theux* there must be atleast some difference because vantablack absorbs 99 point something % of all the light and regular black paint reflects a lot compared to this
So maybe that vantablack will heat up faster
Yes but like 4% faster, not a real difference.
John theux and how do you know that? Really how. (genuine question here)
Wait let me rephrase my question. How can you be so sure of that?
These experiments are amazing! Just watched a few in a row
Move the light itself closer to the wall, and have the magnifying glass directly in Front of the light
Jaxter my thoughts exactly
Nope will Not Work a magnefier has Like a x beam you will Just Spray the light even more you need to Hit the middle of the x
Wont work cuz according to physics it will make light even more spread
Sajitha SurAnJAna. How so? From my knowledge, position the magnifying glass in front of the light would focus it at one point, but passed that point it would be spread out. So if you placed the light itself closer to the wall then the focal point should taking up most if not all of the light
the thing is if u put the flashlight right in front of the lense then the length between the light projector (the flashlight) and the lense would be lower than the focal length of the lense. Thus creating the image of the flashlight in what we call the infinity.
This video is MAGNIFYcent
That pun lol
4:17 No. Move the light closer to you.
Thougt the same thing
I know, holy shit. I was yelling at the screen.
That's what I was thinking about
Awesome video!! I remember doing similar experiments in my first year physics lab in college. You should do a video over light diffraction using a diffraction grating.
6:02 - 6:50 *random series of awkward laughs and “it’s burning”*
I know how to make it brighter...
Add 1 small led next to it.
Ha
2 small leds will make it even brighter
Add 999999999999 Huge leds
Adding 1small led to it wouldn't make it brighter, the small led light would be drowned out by the bigger and brighter led
Rqkt I
wow very interesting, loved it and love that l learn something from you every time you post!
Momma O yep
Momma O r
Yo
Yos are cool
I really respect you, you give interesting facts, you have humor and you aren’t an ignorant tech destroying channel...
And waaaaaaoooooooowwwww you didn’t even extend your video to 10 minutes💪🏽 respect
But most importantly you put effort in your vids and that’s something that is lacking rn on RUclips
I like how you explain everything.
What a cool flashlight! i saw some other videos like this, but you made this so interesting, and you explain everything fabulously.
this channel is AMAZING! Keep making cool videos like these! :)
Love your experiments!

You're the best man, really glad i found your channel
36 years old and i didn not know that about the magnifying glass.
You sir just earned another subscriber
7:14 pretty!
omw are you a girl
The Daily Compilation lmao what does that have to do with anything?
cuz its cringe only a girl would say that
The Daily Compilation you’re obviously too young to be on youtube if you think that
The Daily Compilation I'm a straight guy and I thought it was pretty.
Youre always so happy and exited on all your experiments nice man👌
Happy to find your channel. Very entertaining 😃🤙
I like your videos man!!! Give us more, good luck!
Put bubble wrap in a vacuum please! You’re videos are amazing
At the end when you show how the projection puts out the same image when covering the exporting segments of the glass, sounds like relevant superposition material.
Man your really loving that flash light. Good Video👌👍
if u illuminate a magnifying glass with the sun on a wall. U are actually looking at the sun's image on the wall
correct
The Action Lab woah. So if you could get the iso and exposure right, we could get a clear image of the sun, on a clear day, from our homes?
kapil busawah yup
kapil busawah Check out Veritasium he has a video on this exact topic.
And you’d also burn your house down in the process 🏠 🔥
Nice experiment
i've always been interested in these what if scenarios
i love this guy bc he is doing all the cool stuff i wish i could do at home
1:47 Mans not hot.. remember that.
Mārtiņš Vinklers toh ton snam= mans not hot
mans not cool too, they can get hot
Mārtiņš Vinklers never hot!
Speak for yourself
You should paint a room with black 2.0
The stuff costs almost $30 for 150ml which is about half a cup, which would not cover much space. It would be an incredible idea but it's not financially reasonable.
HOLO ISLIFE man give him a rest 😁😁😁
DOn't let the emo/goth kids hear your idea
Paul 'Carrot' Warner speak for yourself 😁
Vincent Magesa I did the math, it's over $700 to paint a small room like a bathroom. So if you have $700 and a spare day just waiting to be used, go ahead. Or, you know, you could help me buy Enchroma glasses for my grandfather and pay my rather inexpensive bills for several months... 😏
The last part was the most interesting. It's like you made a mechanical dimmer. Pretty amazing stuff.
The final part about what happens when you cover part of the lens is awesome!
"Please describe how the fire started...."
Vid starts at 0.00 so no MORE HATING
BTW I love ur videos and I subed and smashed the bell for u
Thought it started at 0:01
Cool Scrub lol okay?
Cool Scrub ur still killen them haters tho
2:26
I love the experiments this guy does
The background music is fantastic!
This video had a eerie feeling for that section when you were explaining the image projection with the magnifying glass. That music and the dark and you just calmly talking idk
Here's a question: Can fish live in distilled and/or carbonized water?
EpicLPer I would say depends on the fish but most likely no, fish are very sensitive to pH levels. Both distilled and carbonized water have low pH (acidic), and also low absorbed oxygen content. They would suffocate.
No
They would die of endosmosis,in short they would burst
No. There has to be oxygen diffused in the water. I mean, technically you could with distilled water, but first you would have to shake it vigorously to introduce enough oxygen.
EpicLPer yes it can. Paul Caffaro did it to his betta fish
That red-orange-purple flower pattern on the black construction paper was so beautiful...
I love this channel and the experiments are really educational... and cool...
Been here since it was Hydraulic Press Action :^)
I wish you tried sticking a magnifying glass, with another magnifying glass in front of it. Try two small, 1 big, 1 small, 2 bigs, etc. Then try like 10, create some kind of rig, with the magnifying glass held up in position, and put 10 all lined up, and space and change for optimal layout.
A telescope 🔭 right?
That was dope. Flipped me sideways when you blocked the light and full shape still appeared. Wow, I love science.
Oh, I used to play like that when I was kid. Just magnifying glass and I was projecting images from window to wall or paper. ^^
Can you light a match with the flashlight if the match was put against a black piece of paper? Also does quantum mechanic have any to do with the last experiment? Thanks for a fun video that make us think 😊😊💖💖🔦🔦⚗⚗
Jacinda Lacroix yes quantum mechanics
Leanardoe Thanks 😊😊
Can this flashlight make you tanned?
4:35 I was like "Just put the flashlight closer to the wall!" xD Great video I loved the way you talk.
Beautiful music in the background moite!
What's the background music? It's really peaceful
Lux liked this video
You deserved to be liked,so much of science with modest simplest way
Awesome video. Love it!
what happens when u bring the magnifying glass near the flashlight and bring the flashlight near the wall?? wouldnt it magnify the light then??
night seeker that's exactly what you should do hahaha
I would have tried that me too !
That’d be scary awesome
Yes, seriously. Why wasn't that obvious?
night seeker because you're technically just bringing the lens closer to the light, which only magnified the light
This dude keeps trying to break the laws of physics but fails everytime 😁
Noooo :(
Omg is awesome! I want to learn more about lenses and light!!
Wow , worth watching, pls make more videos!!!! Thanks
What if you replaced the concave lens at the front of the flashlight with a convex lens? Or if you removed the concave lens altogether?
Surya just what I thing about
Surya Melt plastic! Especially if your talking of glass concave lenses....!!!
Yeah, he's not properly handling the diffusion of the light, here, and it's incredibly vexing.
Surya exactly what i thought
Magnifying glasses are convex lenses. A concave lense would only spread the light. Convex lenses concentrate or spread the light depending on where in relation to the focal point you measure.
www.synopsys.com/optical-solutions/learn/optics-for-kids/lenses.html
He could concentrate the light to a very small point with the right convex lense, or combination of lenses.
"Fleshlight"
Probably will be porn
"It didn't start on fire
Aoutchh
The back of it is hot"
😂
Your videos are fun, interesting, funny and awesome
Very interesting I'm sure to be showing this to be bro

Bad Charlie...
I'll stop)
Magolor The Space Eggo you probably stole that from someone else
mini buds
Ya, I know; I just wanted to reference it for some reason
And
Thought it would've been fitting for this comment, but yet again, I'm not funny xD
The last experiment was very good, even you block partially still the image is full but it's intensity decreases. This is what is called double-slit experiment. Now I understood this which I learnt in high school.
Always a smile on ur face, gets ur content more attractive. love it. :)
Uh.... Why not hold the flashlight right up to the magnifying glass? Move the flashlight nearer to the wall while leaving the magnifying glass where it is?
Exactly what I was thinking
Sam Glen Merrill how about the camera?
This wont work either, try it out yourself, you'll see that it just shows the bulb
It can't be hotter than the source and that would only magnify the image, he couldn't get any more focused no matter what
Why did you never move the flashlight closer to the wall. The magnify glass has 2 focal points. You only focus between the glass and the wall and left the 32000 flashlight way out of focus.
I showed you both focal points, both were in focus
I was thinking the same thing, why not move the flashlight closer and try it? Tested with my super week led flashlight quickly and it didn't work. There was a point where the flashlight was too close and my lens could not focus the light at all so I had to back it up. There is a minimal distance the source needs to be in order to allow the lens to focus. But what I did find was that the further away I put the source the smaller the focussed image I could create, but also the dimmer it became.
The Action Lab I see that you put the magnifying glass closer to the flashlight, but what if you moved the magnifying glass and the flashlight closer to the wall? Would there be a small dot on the wall then? Like: flashlight -a few inches- magnifying glass -a few inches- wall?
I was wondering the same
You should have put the flashlight at a distance from the magnifying glass so that the entire beam of light enters the magnifying glass while the magnifying glass is 1 focal length away from the wall, this would focus the light to a point smaller than 1mm, this way you could reach a much higher heat at the cost of lower area, totally worth it.
Super enjoyed that
That was awesome!!!
Try to magnify a laser beam.
Nope, laser pointers already have their own magnifly glasses.
Focusing lens. They already have a focusing lens.
Buy a laser diode and play with lenses. It's pretty fun.
With a high emmision lasers all you will do is either melt your lens, or at least only dim the output. True lasers will not significantly expand for a significant distance, and much of that will be from diffusion in the medium the light is traveling.
Complete this to see more about that type of laser

Vladislav ha ha ha lol
Vladislav ... Baby don't hurt me... No more
lmaoooo!! flexin those LEDs 😂😂😂😂😂
I love your videos!!!
This is so cool!
hi, i am unsure if the burning paper came from the heat generated or just the light...
when you had it so close, the LED lights themselves can reach 90C!
can you keep the paper 2 inches away and try to get it to burn?
90C is nowhere near enough to even decompose paper, let alone catching it on fire. In some nuclear tests, support cables made of steel were coated in black paint while some others were wrapped in foil. What they found was the ones coated in black vaporized immediately and formed spike in the nuclear fireball. The ones coated in foil were completely unscathed. Hence, they showed that the light was the one inducing heating, not the 'fireball' itself.
Edit: You can find this on Wikipedia, though I don't know what it's called, so I can't give you a link, so if you find it, then good for you.
At 2 inches he could use an ultra short focal length lens to magnify the light, although those are REALLY expensive. On its own, at two inches, it wouldn't heat to decomposition temperatures.
The ignition temperature of paper is 451 degrees Fahrenheit, or 233 degrees Celsius.
just move the flashlight closer to the wall, not the lense, or even (as you did with the fresnel lense) move the flashlight back :/
OR put the flashlight and the lense inside a tube, like a telescope
Nice!! I enjoy it...
Your voice is so clear and also every accent...
8:33 oh so that's how camera apertures work!! Always wondered that/why a smaller aperture doesn't result in essentially just cropping the image.
Whenever a burglar comes.
Glue the normal magnifying glass lens the the flash light, then put it in front, then hook it up to a pressure plate in your yard :)
StuDio boi this ain’t minecraft
John Smith It's actually a good idea!
How cool! His hand looks like going into a portal on camera
Instead of a magnifying glass with convex on both sides, what if you used one that is flat on one side and concave on the other? I believe that you would then be able to condense most or all of the light into a very small disc.
This was really interesting! That last bit about covering the lens (I guessed wrong, BTW) made me think of the iris (aperture) on a camera's lens. The more you stop it down, the dimmer the image gets, but you still get the whole image, just like in your example.
But can it run crysis
U r the best. I always wondered how sodium reacts with an acid. Do it plz
ritesh Gamer it reacts gently
Wouldn't it react with acid normally?
Nope bro it would explode right in your face.
RayPosSiable nah sodium is a very subtle element.
If it explodes in water what will it do in a strong acid.
If you want to converge the rays you first have to have them come from infinite onto your lens. Best way to do it would be to use two lenses, one to set all the rays parallel to each other and second to converge them, this would be really efficient.
Sorry for any error, I'm tired and English isn't my first language.
wow incredible
I got 2:12 M's in my bank account
Andrew NLA I got 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 M's in my bank account

Some really imp concepts here..👌
So I'm fumbling around RUclips on Saturday night. So I come across one of your videos. So I decide to check it out. So I start playing it. So I'm enjoying it and continue watching. So I got up to about three minutes in and noticed something odd. So I thought I noticed that you said the word *so* a lot. So I went back to the beginning and watched it from there. So I thought it would be interesting to count how many times you say the word *so* in the video. So I did. So it turns out for this video, you said the word *so* a total of 46 times. So I don't know if that's a lot or not. So I decided it was.
What will happen if you put a lot of magnifying glass in front of the flashlight?
less and less light:)
The Action Lab with more power?
nah it just gets dispersed because of all the glass planes it has to go thru
Also, there is no more light, and therefor heat, going to the target. The light defuses because of the extra lenses, so you are getting less light through to the point. The king of random (Well, Nate) did a video about this a short time ago.
You forgot the es in glasses
Action lab you should by a 42,000 lumen torch and set fire to paper and explain why it happens
Cause even though paper reflects almost all light because it's white, the light it does absorb heats the paper up to the point where it starts to burn. But don't quote me. This just seems the logical way
Heat from light
😂 yeah
GD GodDawg but a black paper
AB3/Alan bright 3 because it gets hot?
New to the channel I love these videos
Nice wave patterns
