Imagine having a small room painted that way with no windows. Then having somebody with a weaker flashlight nagivating inside the room he will be feeling like the room is huge since the color will asburb all the light.

you should either paint a surface larger than the beam of the flashlight, or use a light blocking sheet with a hole in it to control the size of the beam hitting the paint so that it is smaller than the painted surface. This would eliminate any of the problems of the light bouncing off surrounding surfaces and show up better on camera.

get something like a BLF GT or a acebeam w30, while the lumen output is much lower on these flashlights they are better at focusing the beam resulting in a much higher candela rating which would work better for these kind of experiments.
The W30 has a candela rating of over 1.5 million candela giving it over a mile and a half beam throw despite it not being any bigger than a typical tactical style flashlight!
