- This video surveys a common “theme” found within the ABO and NCLE examinations. It demonstrates the importance in understanding the 180 and 90 degree meridians.
We will look at:
The refractive medium of the eye
Prescription analysis
Transposition
Finding powers at various meridians
The optical cross
Decentration
Prentice’s Rule
Prism
Various astigmatism types
Essentially, I ramble-lecture for 30 some-odd minutes (Hopefully imparting foundational wisdom along the way!)

Hey first off I wanted to thank you for making these videos as I just passed my NCLE. Second I hope you keep making more of these videos.
One thing I want to push back on is I personally don’t think the NCLE is easier than the ABO. Not only do I have your videos but I have books and materials from the NCLE association and my job has made over 40 videos with tests on each video and these videos are extremely detailed and my job holds weekly lectures on NCLE and ABO and I had to take the test twice. I also started studying for the ncle right after passing my ABO.

Love the way you explain everything, schools or books couldn’t have done a better job at explaining contact lenses.I’m taking the contact lens practical and was wondering if you knew of any courses I can take on line to prepare. I didn’t see u had any on the practical end, explaining the keratometer, radiuscope and slit lamp. Any advise greatly appreciate. TY

Unfortunately, I do not have any resources for the practical examinations. I would encourage you to go through the testing website and familiarize yourself with the digital versions of the instruments.
I have also heard that much of the material is similar to that which you would find on the CLRE (NCLE) so make sure your “head knowledge” is still fresh from your exam.

So powers in oblique meridians won’t be on the exams? I don’t find that method hard but I’d rather not waste time practicing it when I could be focusing on other areas

It’s not that you won’t encounter maybe ONE question on OMs but I wouldn’t waste too much energy on them… That being said - I believe you should learn how to work those questions and it sounds like you are pretty good already!

From what I have heard, you really just need to make sure that you review the practical demonstration available of the website.
The questions are similar to NCLE.
So… study for NCLE and practice on the website!

I was always taught to say plus and minus. Never say negative. Does that matter?

When speaking about the type of lens it is correct to say “minus seven” or “plus five.”
When speaking algebraically it really doesn’t matter.

While this channel is geared towards the NCLE - I assure you that understanding all of the anatomy and prescription interpretation in these videos will give you a huge “leg-up” on your ABO!
In fact, a lot of these videos, go into great depth regarding key concepts, like a stigmatism, which will help you understand ABO material much easier. Appreciate you watching!

If you are referring to continuing education courses I do not know of any free NCLE credits 😞
quantumoptical.com has a good number of NCLE courses but they do have a cost.
