  • Learn how to change a fuel pressure regulator on 350ci LT1 or LT4 engine. Replacing the fuel pressure regulator (fpr) is a similar process for almost all cars and this video is a great reference!
Here is the fuel pressure regulator I used (good price too):

Chris, You are still helping us out with this video you did 10 years ago. These things develop odd leaks. Mine was leaking maybe 3 times over 3 months. I would smell fuel in the car for maybe 5 minutes and then go away. I thought it was a plugged vent line. Just checked the Fuel Pressure Regulator before checking the vent lines. Started the engine no leak. Pulled the vacuum line and it leaked bad on the non-vacuum side of the diaphragm. Thank you Chris.

When you have the car off and turn the key to the run position (car is still off and the fuel pump primes), does the fuel pressure increase to ~40psi? Does it stay at ~40psi for 10min?

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have a 94 Caprice wagon with the LT1 engine, and the factory manual is useless for helping this changeout. I had a wee bit more difficulty was well because the shoulder bolt/nut holding it on was frozen solid, so I wound up cutting it off! Replaced it with a makeshift 1/4-20 bolt and 3 nuts to make up the support of the shoulder bolt. Works great, !!!

It can be a number of things... I would check a few things to get an idea of where your problem is... Check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge ($20 online). It should read around 40psi when you just turn the key to the run position and it should not bleed down. You should also check the wires. Run the car at night in the dark and take a spray bottle with water and spray near the exhaust manifolds. If you see sparks, you need new wires. That should be a good start. Report back!

  • @ericchampagne1465
    @ericchampagne1465 5 лет назад +2

Also if it hasn't been said, unscrew the gas cap, I had constant pressure with the fuse out and finally decided to take off the fuel cap and the pressure that was built up was now gone, large amounts of pressurized fuel in the line before taking off the cap on my 95 vette.

Hey Chris, I purchased a used car with a b series engine swap. It runs super rich and I've fix and replacing parts to get better fuel economy. I've notice that the for does not have the vacuum connected and from the manifold the inlet is plugged. I tried adding a return line but the idle went up over 1200 rmp. I can't lower the idle since it's at the lowest point it can go. So as of now I'm running with a vac delete. Questions is would it be a bad fpr or is it tuned to bypass?

It is just one O-ring and you can clearly see it at 5:06 ... I would replace the O-ring because it is a cheap part and failure of this part could catch your car on fire... For now if you take the O-ring off, soak it with a little motor oil, then put it back on, it might hold for a little (to get to the parts store)... But leaking fuel is very bad so get a new O-ring asap!

This morning I started mine up and for a split second I realized it wasn’t the same amount of cranks and it was really boggy… Drove it down the street, drove it back and parked it in the driveway. 20 minutes later I go to start it up and it’s just cranking now… No start, I was thinking maybe bad injectors but this looks easy enough to swap out…
My question is, why/how did you know it needed to be changed? What were the symptoms? Mine has been running great, so much that the last time I drove it I pushed the hell out of it on an empty freeway and it did great…

Did you add my others? (How to change oil, how to change headlights)?

It is definitely not a valve. All that thing does is hold the fuel lines in place. It is a clamp you screw down to hold the fuel lines.

Hey, I have a 95 camaro Z28 Lt1, and i am having a fuel pressure problem! I did go and change the spark plugs, wires and the distributor cap and roter, But it would slowly loss fuel pressure after driving for 15 or so minutes, It would idle at about 39 or 40 psi and soon get down to close to 30, What do you think i need? Thanks man!

I don't have a leak coming from my vent tube but I have alot of carbon build up on my new platinum plugs and my oil dip stick smells more like gas than fresh oil. My car starts fine, runs for 5 mins, then sputters and dies. After 15 mins it does the same thing. The symptoms I named earlier, would that be from a bad regulator?

cool this is exactly what I need to do to my vette! now do I need that gauge to release the fuel pressure or can I get away with it by relieving it into a cup or something?
    thanks!

You dont need the gauge to release fuel pressure. You can just let the car sit overnight and that will be long enough for it to leak down. You could also pull the fuel pump fuse and turn the car over for a second.

Before Chris’ thread locker budget needed an accountant.

my C4 needs to crank 2-3 times, when cold, in order to start engine.
spark plugs, cables, air filter, flow meter, fuel filter anf injectors all replaced recently.
do you thonk it's a fuel regulator issue?
once it starts then it runs smoothly

+TheeAmateur Yes, that is exactly what I saw in my vette. Check out this video on how to diagnose the problem: ruclips.net/video/_oXLUqE4Sf0/видео.html
