Dr. Anna, you were the first influence that started me on my Mediterranean diet lifestyle. I got to tell you what has happened! First, I have lost weight, about 6-8 pounds. I wasn't really overweight before, but not optimal. I have dealt with higher than good blood pressure for the last few years, but about 2 weeks ago I realized that my blood pressure was going too low with the small amount of medication I was taking. I've been maintaining perfect blood pressure for the last 2 weeks without medication! Of course I keep an eye on it, but WOW!
So THANK you for what you do. 😀

WOW is right!! That is absolutely incredible! Very well done and no doubt it took effort to make those results happen. I’m sure your doc is very impressed!

Great tips here Dr Anna. I broke my poor old treadmill this morning. (Electronics died) Ugh now have to find another way to walk. Or exercise. It’s true though I exercise in the morning and I have more energy to keep moving throughout the day

Well maybe you have been graced with good timing, next week is Black Friday, there are surely to be some good deals on treadmills! Where there’s a will there’s a way!

@ yes and australia for some reason have the Black Friday sales. Will try to get it fixed first. Until then I will find another way to exercise in my house. (Snakes are an issue here on my farm 4 types of the most dangerous deadly ones)

Thank you for this video. I think depression plays a major role with motivating older people to exercise more and eat healthy.
A topic that is popular on RUclips now is food order related to managing glucose spikes (eat vegetables or a veggie starter first, then protein, then carbs and sweets). I always have a healthy trifecta with each meal or snack, so does food order really matter? I thought food gets mixed together in the stomach at the same time, thereby slowing glucose spikes. The thinking is that eating fiber first will coat the intestinal lining, thereby slowing glucose absortion. Does it really make a difference? A good topic for another video!! 😀

Really good question! It really shouldn’t matter much, as it’s all going to the same place. However, it could affect our hormones differently in the way we feel hungry or full which may change the total amount of food we eat. This is just my thoughts off the top of my head. I’ll think on it more! Thanks

I love the information you provide in your videos. This one was something I was hoping you’d address. I’m 67 yo and following a Mediterranean diet for the most part (still trying to knock out those sugar cravings). I’m working out with weight machines 3 days per week, I’m getting more protein in my diet, but I still find I’m wanting to nap for even 30 minutes in the afternoon. I’ll add in some of the tips you provided and see what happens (e.g. milk with my daily magnesium tab). I do have a question related to this topic. One of the ways I’ve been adding protein into my diet is by adding Collagen powder into my coffee in the morning for an extra 20 gram boost. I recently found out the protein in the collagen powder isn’t a complete protein. Does that mean I shouldn’t count it towards my daily protein intake? I have eggs, greens and toast with my coffee; does that make the Collagen protein a complete protein?

Sounds like you’re following a great regimen! This is a good question about collagen. In general, I wouldn’t normally count collagen as straight protein to meet needs but more as a supplement. But it definitely will give you the boost.
The concept of the complete protein is about amino acid breakdown and as long as you’re consuming mixed meals and a diet that overall has different types of protein, likely you are meeting your needs. But I will have to look more into this!

@@annapleetmd Thanks for getting back with me. I believe I eat a good variety of foods on a daily basis. But, I admit I’m having trouble getting enough protein in on a daily basis without incorporating more meat than I believe the Mediterranean diet recommends. I’m thinking about consulting with a nutritionist to help me get/stay on the right track. I would just rather eat a balanced, healthy diet as opposed to adding multiple supplements. Keep posting - love your content!
