Thank you! I really enjoyed learning more about the less obvious elements of the Mediterranean Diet. I have been doing the resting after meals for years and had no idea it was part of this diet. I would usually eat lunch with my coworkers and then go outside for a leisurely walk or go to my car to read and/or take a nap.

I am so confused!! I thought we were supposed to cut back on eating meat! I can’t get the amount of protein I need without meat. Is this method for losing weight or maintaining?
I’m so glad you bring this up, it’s a point of big debate in the world of nutrition and many people have different views. If you ask 10 different doctors, you may get 10 answers. I can tell you only my own view in context of what the science says and what my clinical experience teaches me. I am certain that meat is not a necessary part of the diet, meaning one can be very healthy as a vegetarian or vegan, and that eating lots of plants is vital to our health. However, I agree that it can be difficult to reach protein needs without meat especially given the high quantity of plant based protein needed to reach the adequate grams of protein. I personally believe that meat can (and in some cases should) be part of a healthy diet. I eat meat myself and it’s about the quality of the meat, the way it’s prepared and the frequency of eating it in context of the rest of the diet that matters most. Humans have been eating meat for likely all of human history

I have food sensitivity to bananas. I can eat organic ones, but I have to eat them every other day or else I get stomach cramps. Kind of the same thing with apples. If I eat an apple, it has to be peeled first, or I will be hurting shortly afterward. My doctor suggested the Mediterranean diet for weight loss and also to help lower blood pressure, which I am taking a prescription for. I'm really struggling because a lot of the foods found in this diet give me stomach cramps, or I straight up don't like. I try to get in fruits and vegetables, lean meat like chicken and turkey, and rice and beans. I've also been eating whole grain white bread. Also, some things are quite expensive. I don't think I've lost much weight, if any.
With 1 kidney and recently seeing my blood sugar on cgm it was alarming at first. But I was eating ok and Mediterranean on occasion. I’ve increased it but the problem is learning all new recipes . This is a difficult thing because so many not Mediterranean recipes are just dressed up crap. In my EMT class my awesome instructor described diabetes very well. Glucose wants in the cell to be turned into energy ( ATP) but the keys to the cell for glucose is insulin. The resistance to it because to much has been produced for long enough cause the keys not to be produced because the manufacturer just is broken and tired and can’t keep up. Foods I’ve been liking and don’t seem to spike me 1 fridge egg in olive oil with fried mushrooms and with grape/cherry tomatoes or 1 tomato sliced and fried in the same olive oil and a generous amount of spinach cooked last but just wilt it don’t cook it down to a wrinkled mess. If you need a bit more energy grated feta . Tomato sauce cooked with pouched egg and some real mozzarella ( pouch egg in the abyss. Whole grain low carb bread with avocado spread on it and a can or half of a can of sardines. I’m learning more recipes and learning to put a good shopping list together. Be mindful of what you buy.

Thanks so much for your videos. This has helped me so much on protein. This video is so helpful. I was wondering how much protein to intake. There are different videos that recommend eating 1 gram for every pound of body weight. For example, they said that if you weigh 150 pounds, eat 150 grams of protein. To be honest, if I ate 1 gram of protein for 1 pound of body weight, I would be eating 145 grams beings I weigh 145 pounds, and I would definitely be packing on some pounds. So I'm doing a gram for every kilogram. Btw I have lost 23 pounds since I have been doing the Mediterranean diet with your videos. Again, thanks so much ❤️

Thanks! I follow an anti-inflammatory eating plan, similar to the classic Mediterranean Diet. I'm always interested in learning more complete proteins that I can eat, especially plant based ones because I love plants. I make soups with chickpeas and vegetables, and I add chicken bone broth to try to make a more complete protein. Do you think this is a good idea or should I add something different to make the chickpeas a complete protein? Thanks in advance!

Okay, I'm halfway through this video and I had to stop and say, SERIOUSLY? I like you, but your suggesting that your viewers can't do this extremely simple math is insulting. My guess is you are trying to be nice to whoever out there you think might actually find dividing by 2 difficult. This catering to the bottom 1% is frustrating. The information you are bringing is important stuff, please give us a little more credit, okay? Oh and I'm not a big fan of the new transitions you are trying... ;-)
Thanks Dr Anna. Protein has been a difficulty for me. As one of those over 50s women, I need it quite a bit, but I don’t want too many calories. When I’m getting my carbs,veggies and fiber, it starts adding up.
If your carbs are mainly vegetables and lower glycemic fruits, for micronutrients and fiber, it won’t be an issue. I prioritize proteins. You can decrease your calories with leaner meats and lower fat dairies.
Excellent video about the importance of protein in our diet, especially since I'm over 60. I struggle getting the minimum since I'm 5' tall and 108 pounds. I've been trying to add more beans and yogurt to my diet. I love to make bowls - I can switch up the grain and protein sources with either raw or cooked vegetables. Learning how to cook lentils. Plant proteins are definitely delicious unlike animal proteins (for me at least) And with the rising cost of groceries getting worse, they're definitely cheaper then animal proteins

The grocery shopping every day is something my friend has picked on me for. I would go at least 4 times a week. For me, it was more because I didn’t know what I wanted to cook until then. But it also helps the food doesn’t waste because you forgot it was in the crisper drawer.

@jandurham6231 I know for me it's a grad school thing. The only time I ever watched TV in grad school was when I was taking a break from Reading to eat a meal. So if I extended the meal, I got to watch TV for a little longer instead of going back to the books after 30 minutes. It's ingrained in me now

Usually for breakfast it's a egg beaters breakfast sandwich. I use egg beaters with sautéed unions and fat free mozzarella cheese. I have it Between a daves 21 grain bun or 2 slices of daves 21 grain bread
I love this video. I’m thinking of making a list of what to choose at restaurants we normally go to and make our decisions before getting there and not look at all the options while hungry. 😊
I have gotten so off track on my eating since October and almost gotten into binge eating sometimes on unhealthy foods probably due to various problems in family relationships. Anyway, I want to get back on track and kept thinking I needed to immediately go back to everything I was doing right which hasn’t gone well. I will be setting up some smaller goals starting with sugar and a goal of accessing whether I am actually hungry when I want to eat. I need my goals in writing to remind myself. It will probably be good to write out your plan so I can set myself up for success following it. Thank you for the video. I believe it will be helpful.
