Did you know that too much iron can decrease longevity? Your body makes hydrogen peroxide that is used by the immune system to kill microbes. When hydrogen peroxide combines with iron, it can cause serious cellular damage.
People with iron-deficiency anemia often have dysfunctional iron, which means it’s unavailable to the red blood cells. This could be why we are not seeing a decrease in anemia even though we've increased iron in the food supply.
Iron overload may increase your risk for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, heart disease, and more. Excess iron causes oxidative stress and increases inflammation.
As we age, we naturally accumulate more iron. Around 70% of our iron is stored in protein in the blood that helps carry oxygen. Ferritin should be inside your tissues to protect you from free iron and control when iron is released. This very efficient system recycles iron in the body.
Certain pathogens, microbes, and infections use iron as fuel. This is why the body protects free iron. Some people feel better after donating blood, indicating they have too much iron.
Too much iron without enough copper is a big problem. If you think you have this problem, limit iron exposure before taking a copper supplement. Iron is found in enriched flours, grains, and refined carbohydrate products. Shellfish, organ meats, sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate are good sources of copper.
To combat oxidative damage caused by iron and other factors like alcohol, smoking, pollution, and junk foods, you’ll want to build up your antioxidant reserve. Glutamine found in red meat is vital, but protein is the most important! It’s especially important to consume enough protein as you get older.
Zinc, manganese, magnesium, and selenium can increase antioxidant networks to help you regulate excess iron. Quercetin, curcumin, black tea, and increasing melatonin are also very beneficial.
Lactoferrin is the most powerful chelator for iron. It’s found naturally in dairy and can be taken as a supplement.

Hi fasting for how long.

You forgot the most important!
Fasting (eat less & miss a few meals), sleep (listen to your body), healthy diet (reduce carbs, sugar & processed foods), exercise (regular walking & resistance exercises), sunlight (Vitamin D), hydration, healthy social connections (laughter, love, no animosity), stress management (prayer, meditation, music) & practice gratitude
I totally agree. Ageing is a combinaison of many factors.

I was diagnosed as iron deficient w/o anemia because my ferritin levels were at a 5 yet my hemoglobin and TIBC, etc were normal. I felt extreme fatigue and depression as a result. Once I started taking iron and vitamin c, as prescribed by my Hematologist, I started feeling better. Dr, please address this very confusing claim at the end of your video where you say we should want our ferritin as close to zero as possible. Please understand you have a huge following and thjs has caused confusion that can be dangerous to those of us who already had low ferritin levels and tried for months/years to understand what was going on. That one statement you said can potentially reverse months of improvement for people like me. I hope you consider. Thank you.
Yes l am confused too about this statement!
I agree. I thought ferretin levels were supposed to be at 70 to 100. If you felt better then thats the best proof
Nobody should blindly follow something without actually checking if it's what they need
a copper test might be interesting...
This confused me as well. I’ve been chasing extreme fatigue and short of breath etc, the conclusion is my Ferritin is too low and causing the issue. My ferritin is at 8 and Cu levels are normal. Other information I have seen says Ferritin below 70 or so causes fatigue and hairloss among other issues.
High iron levels caused depression in me. Once I dropped the high iron sources I was taking (too much Vitamin C, tuna etc) then the depression lifted. God bless~
Thank you!! I needed this
Thank you for sharing your experience-it's incredible how much of an impact iron levels can have on our mental health. I’m glad you found the root cause and saw such a positive change. Wishing you continued health and blessings!
How much vitamin C were you taking, out of interest?
I've been taking 3g a day for months and now thinking I'm should cut it down.
Who in the world would connect high iron to depression!!! Crazy. TY ❤
Fyi, there is no iron in vitamin C. But Vit C helps your body absorb iron...
Choosing what to eat is becoming a science.

The stress caused by being around toxic people is far more destructive than other forms.

Sadly false my friend. We need stress in order to move and overcome our life’s challenges.
But too much stress is bad.
Every doctor needs to watch dr. Berg. This is how a doctor should be unlike the corrupt ones.
they arent taught these things in medical school.
And like most of the population goes on autopilot they do what they always do. It's harder to change yourself in later stage of life, but it's not impossible, just needs more sacrifice of what you've build to this day.
The Dr.s, for the most part, aren't corrupt. They believe everything they're telling you. That's the genius of the system. Big food and big Pharma fund med schools. Their people sit on the board of directors and create the curriculum. They know what they're taught.

In 1986 a nurse I knew, couldn't understand why her baby was screaming (not even crying) continuously and was wondering about possible brain damage... a while later, on a visit to her mom, she took her baby to a local clinic, and an old nurse there suggested that the baby might have pain bc of the iron in Lactogen and suggested they put the baby on cow's milk - voila, baby immediately stopped screaming, and started to flourish
Formula has a lot of bad things and little nutrition. They make it with seed oil and hfcs now.
That happened to me as a baby... I was born 1969 and I would scream not cry. My mom was told to put me on cow's milk...it worked!
Raw milk that is!
I worked in a lab a few moons ago.
Remembered seeing test results for a newborn: couldn’t metabolize any form of sugar but glucose.
I asked the lab-tech what that meant: intestinal pain ever time the infant ate 😮
7+ different sugars were indigestible for that poor child. Hopefully they’re ok.
Hug your babies. ❤
I’m anemic right now, hemoglobin level 5.7 , 3 blood transfusions ( which I never wanted bc of virus transmission among other things) and my iron stores are barely a 3. I had iron in hospital but when I went to get an outpatient dose, I had a very bad reaction, like a sun burn around my torso and all my joints were itchy and inflamed… the doctors keep calling me to get another transfusion, a different iron they say but I’ve been putting them off.. now I have a solution or at least a place to start! Thanks dr berg ❤

A friend had hemoglobin down to 3, she had an infusion, the hemoglobin went up to 8. But 3 months later went down to 5, and needed another infusion. This time the blood analysis was better, and found out that the first infusion had a slight mismatch.
Anyway, my friend now had the hemoglobin back to 12.
I am not exactly sure which single factor made it. She eat red meats and liver every day and I gv her supplements : omega3, vit A+d from cod liver oils, b complex, d3 + k2, iodine, copper, ferritin, lactoferin, magnesium, boron, kelp, sea mos, dried beef organ capsules, oregano oils, etc.
I suspected that it cud be her using lugols iodine to wash her inside of virgina, as it has growth as shown by ultrasound.
There are many types of anemia. If you have iron deficiency anemia (then you are lucky) start to take every morning a small spoon of cod fish liver oil. This is a good source of vitamin A, which you need for correct functioning of copper and that will take care of correct functioning of iron. I take also chlorophyll. Good luck.
B vitamins help your body make your red blood cells. If you are low on B vitamins your red blood cells will be deformed and you will be anemic.
@@hokejista64I have iron deficiency anemia, this summer my iron wasn’t registering on the tests and my hemoglobin was down in the 5’s. Both are back up but my doc wants me to take an iron prescription. I tried it and I think it really messed up my stomach. Will have to try what you suggested.

Dr. Berg, please explain wanting ferrtin low and close to zero?? That sounds so dangerous!! I have suffered from low ferritin and I was close to being not able to function. I had trouble catching my breath, dizzyness, heart palpitations and had to lay down most of the day. The low ferritin caused low red blood cells and hemoglobin counts. I have used iron infusions to correct this and am so thankful that my levels are now normal!!
Yes this is the one time I'm side eyening him because I also had very low ferritin which was causing a whole bunch of issues: depression, fatigue to name a couple.. Now that Im on iron supplements and vitamin c, ferritin has increased and my symptoms have greatly improved. This advice is causing serious confusion now and it's honestly stressing me out a bit. Thjs isn't the first video he says negative things about iron without considering those of us who seriously are borderline anemic.. Now him saying our ferritin levels should be as close to 0 is really throwing me off. Mine was at a 5 and it seriously made me feel like crap daily.

Same. I am on iron patches because of low ferritin. Kind of stumped now!
you need ferritin but you also need copper to unlock it. it is a fine balance.

As always thank you for doing all the hard work for us. I can’t imagine how many people you helped. Very grateful for your videos and vital information.
I'm glad you find the videos helpful!
Let's talk about ferric iron versus ferrous iron and methylene blue
Loved the aging effect nice quick subtle touch
Hi Dr. Berg, thank you for all your help!
What do you mean you want your ferritin as low to zero as possible?
This is really confusing me.
When my ferritin is low I am dizzy, fatigued, short of breath, feel awful. When I take iron and raise my ferritin I feel so much better.
Me too
Yeah I'm the same. Really confused
I’ve been working at raising mine for a couple months & am finally feel better! bounced between a 14-16 the last several years & am at a 31 after a couple months of supplementing
Yea I'm confused by that too
For goodness sake LisTeN to your body!!!! Don't idolised a RUclipsr even if sometimes he has some actual accurate on point info... He's still a typical human, with many errors of ego over awareness, and saying things out loud well before actual much prove is made and /or at least controlling himself in not doing harm to others by misrepresenting information by being contradictory and inflammatory out of habit
This was such an eye-opener! Sometimes the simplest habits can make the biggest difference-I’m definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for one of the most informative series available!
I'm glad I could assist you.
Now this one i have to disagree with in regards to ferritin. Low ferritin levels contribute to greatly to hairloss…after suffering from a pulmonary embolism and a 2nd trimester miscarriage which i hemmoraged from and lost alot of blood, once we recovered from the hemoglobin loss and anemia, i was still suffering from anemia symptoms heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, losing hair, etc, we found that my ferritin levels were critically low- they were at 17! I did 2 round of iron infusions and supplementing with 1000mg of Vit C and oral liquid iron for 6 months. My levels increased from 17-273! So i have not needed to supplement anymore…All symptoms disappeared and my hair stopped falling out. As a hairsylist, ive also seen this in my clients and the common denominator was low ferritin. So while i love your content I have to disagree with the ferritin levels being close to zero is a good thing for everyone
Thank you.

No meat or fish - they are the products of murder.
This is nice info. The problem is that the more you watch health videos, everyone has a list of what to eat and not eat for your heart, kidneys, liver, brain, sleep, you name it. That's why more people are getting confused.

Thank you, & especially for the written form. ❤
hi dr berg! love your videos! just started my keto journey a week ago and feeling great. i just wanted to comment that for some reason even on the highest quality your videos are kinda blurry for me, kinda like they're a little out of focus... i wonder why! but thank you for all your videos, i appreciate you!
Did Dr Berg say at the end that Ferritin should be low? I have chronically low ferritin with normal iron levels and I’m told this might be the cause of my constant fatigue.
Ferritin should be high
Listen to your bodY!!! Especially WomeN!!! It is so complex and unique to your storY! TrusT yourseLf and your journey🫂
You make some of the best videos, Dr. Berg. What’s your take on oil pulling?
DrBerg is a true hero. Dr. Berg is the only doctor I've ever heard use the term 'underlying cause'. He's also not beholden to insurance companies that are in turn beholden to share holders. This is why he can speak the truth about out broken unhealthcare system and the sham that is western medicine. Thank you Dr. Berg!! ❤
love your videos. They are really informative
Multumesc cu recunostinta si iubire! ☺️💓🌺🌸🌷💮🌈
Gone 15 kg down with your advices and life choices 🙏
What exactly you did.??
Informative and helpful as always. Thank you for making these great videos.
Thank you for this eye-opening video on iron overload and its impact on aging and health! 🙌
[2:30] I never realized how excess iron could be so harmful, driving oxidative stress and contributing to diseases like Alzheimer's and heart disease. The explanation about iron's reactivity and its connection to oxidative damage really stood out-what a crucial piece of the health puzzle!
[5:45] The suggestion to monitor ferritin levels via blood tests is a game-changer. It's such a simple yet powerful way to stay proactive about our iron levels.
[8:10] The role of copper and other trace minerals in balancing iron is another important takeaway. Incorporating curcumin, melatonin, and lactoferrin into a daily routine seems like a smart, natural way to reduce excess iron while supporting overall health.
This video is a must-watch for anyone looking to optimize their health as they age. Thank you for shedding light on such an overlooked yet critical topic
Biggest question is do you get excess iron overload when u eat red meat everyday likely in much keto or carnivore diets
@@ningunoagI was wondering that too😊
Great Video, im using Infrared since few weeks and can sleep much more better 😀😀😀😀😀
Thank you Dr. Berg for this video on Iron
The balance between scientific explanation and actionable tips made the content feel trustworthy and achievable. I also liked how you addressed both physical and mental well-being, reinforcing the idea that true anti-aging is holistic.
Thank you Dr. Berg ❤
Happy Healthy New Year everyone!! Blessings and love to all! ✝️
Ferritin close to 0?? Please explain
I agree that is scary.
When my ferritin was 3, I was literally dragging my feet, no energy, no desire to do anything, constant fatigue
@@innap2572 Maybe it wasn’t your Ferritin. Mine is 5.6 and I feel great and am healthy though I may have needed to take iron supplements but thankfully came accords Dr Bergs video first.
InDeeD... Such a dangerous statement to be making ... People's lives and livings are effected by such statements
Toujours aussi cohérent et informatif. Encore une nouvelle pépite d'informations parfaitement vulgarisées. Merci Docteur Berg !
Thank you that advice would help me a lot because I've got to much iron and when they caught up with it my ferritin level was 940 and then they did bloodlettings but luckily my organs is still fine
