Great that they are putting so much time and effort into their machines, I'm happy to see Lenovo doing what they do... But the price! Here in Denmark in terms of price it starts at about 1.7 modern gaming spec desktop computers, and the top of the line bells and whistles version costs 2.5 gaming desktop computers.
I'm glad they kept the fingerprint reader and glass trackpad, since those were removed from the regular Legion Pro 7 models this year (presumably to reduce costs from RTX 40 series and maybe provide a higher-tier Legion 9 model later). Unfortunately where I am in the US we won't be getting the 100% DCI-P3 display model in this video, which is a real shame because none of the other displays are as competitive with what's on offer from the likes of Asus ROG right now. Thank you Alex for measuring the weight! Many reviewers don’t do it which is the important factor for portability and these slim gaming laptops. I was expecting Lenovo is wrong in advertising as they haven’t changed anything in chassis design compared to 2022 Slim.
Can we talk about Lenovo's crappy sales tactics with their "estimated value" saying a 1800 dollar laptop is worth $5,000 and they mark it half off to make it appear like a good value?

This is just Alex's way of speaking during sponsored videos or genuinely good features in a non-sponsored video. Lmg tends to take the dough these days even if a company's products aren't interesting at all like Asus TUF showcasings, videos sponsored by some random games studio or Vessi. Remember when Linus said that he wouldn't call Vessis shoes waterproof but rather water resistant? Well, he used to call them water resistant in sponsored videos but after he spoke out about it in the WAN show, I began to notice that they were suddenly described as waterproof by the hosts doing the sponsored segments in regular videos.
@@antraxbeta23 yee, comparing this to the legion 5 pro is not the best thing, this laptop got the "slim" gimmick on its name, thats why they cut a bit on the port side lmao, shouldve gone for the normal legion 7 if you want the best.
Got last gen's Core i7 with 3060 GPU and my only nitpicky complaint is the odd memory upgrade. I'd love to be able to go all the way to 32GB instead of 24GB but everything else about it has been solid.
Lenovo has a tendency to hide RAM slots under the keyboard on the opposite side of the mainboard. Not sure if this is the case here, but it could explain the discrepancy of the advertised 2 slots but you finding only one
i have 2 older thinkpads that do that. one has a single slot on either side. i have an older dell workstation laptop that also does that. 2 slots per side
RUclips deleted my comment because I linked psref...Slim 7 Gen 8 has 1 RAM soldered and 1 SO-DIMM slot available... per psref - "One memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR5 SO-DIMM slot, dual-channel capable"
I have a legion 5 pro and while the vents on the side make a major difference, I have noticed that if you actually play in “laptop” mode it blows hot air at my mouse hand and I have a tendency to curl my pinky under my keyboard which with the laptop is in the vent. Just a note to aspiring buyers about the day to day use you wouldn’t think about
I couldn't see your scale setting but if like mine is lbs + oz vs decimal notation. That would make it closer to 4.45lbs, not a functional difference but at least makes Lenovo seem more honest.
I own a Legion 7 (non pro) and before i owned an think pad e-series. I was allways satisfied with quality an performance. Opening up is allways easy. Overall i was allways happy 👍🏻
16:10 makes you see less in the games for the same diagonal, due to letterboxing for games that have a fixed aspect ratio. Same for multimedia like movies or TV series. I just love how some tech guys from 10 years ago that glorified move from 16:10 to 16:9 are now glorifying the opposite (not comenting specifically for this video and presenter).
I actually have last year's model of this laptop with an i7, 3060, 16gb RAM and a matte 1080p screen and it has been an absolute pleasure to use since I got it. It's much lighter than my previous powerhouse laptop which only had a 1050 lol. The battery life could be better of course, but they give a few power options so I put mine on Hybrid-Auto mode, only uses the GPU when plugged in to maximize battery and that made it pretty decent. The ONLY complaint I have is the headphone jack being on the right side, which I saw in the video they changed with this year's model, and I just got very jealous lmao.
@@meesup5672 Yep! In Lenovo Vantage, GPU Working Mode on the right side you gotta set that to Hybrid-Auto Mode. It has done WONDERS for my battery life.
5:10 that is true thanks to Microsoft Precision. Synaptics is sometimes still there but it simply routes the driver to Windows and that makes the Experience way fluid even on sh*tty material. I can't wait when MS implement their RGB panel so we can ditch every proprietary drivers for mouse/keyboard etc. (i also hope they'll implement control over side mouse keys or fan profiles, but it won't happen anytime soon)
I don't understand why Lenovo still isn't offering a 2-in-1 convertible option in the Legion line-up! It'd be best to make it only in the 14 inch versions IMO. As of now only ASUS ROG flow X13 is a proper high performance 2 in 1 laptop with a dGPU, but it's 2023 and we NEED more options in the "2 in 1 high performance laptop" segment!! (for clarity, I mean a 2 in 1 touchscreen laptop with dedicated GPU that can be rotated 360° amd be used as a tablet too) P. S. I'd need that for engineering. Productivity + dGPU for solidworks/CAD would've been a killer conbo!
2 in 1 are a thing of the past, the chassis design is very bulky for 1 thing. A 180 fold has a much slimmer design, the Lenovo slim 9i is proof of such.
Good I/O. Would still prefer to see dedicated Ethernet and HDMI ports though, even though you can adapt USB4/Type-C for that. EDIT: it actually has HDMI
that's pretty much the trade-off for having a thin profile, at least they kept the plethora of I/O instead of gimping it like other brand's thin laptops.
@@walkhardwalk So true. I was looking at some AMD APU 17" laptops from HP, and while you can score a great laptop for around $430 when they go on sale, which you can then upgrade with more RAM, SSD and better WI-FI card for under $120 yourself after buying it (which is a lot cheaper than configuring it as such at HP), totaling $550 - the laptop lacking I/O was a big deal breaker for me. The APU spec sheet even says that it supports way more I/O, so that's not APU limitation, but HP motherboard's.
Lenovo is a company I never thought I would ever be recommending to anyone. In the midst of "gaming laptops" from the likes of Alienware, Razer, MSI, Asus, etc. Lenovo with its Legion brand holds its own with it's own design philosophy. I still remember when "The World's first 16" laptop" from Lenovo came out and during that time I had my eyes and mind set on the Ausus G14 and G15 laptops. I remember saying to myself how awesome it would be to have a GAMING laptop that looks NOTHING like a GAMING laptop. The icing on top was the fact that it looks so much cleaner than a razer machine (and I thought Razer was pretty damn clean) according to Dave2D and I found my self hopelessly agreeing. I am now a proud owner of the Lenovo Legion 5 with a 3070 and I haven't looked back since. I will definitely be looking into getting another Legion in 5 -10 years time once the new cooling solutions with vibration becomes a norm.
I just hate matt display. It ruins display quality and i don't care about reflection and glare on screen. Every brand must provide glossy option in all their laptop series
I mean I'd like it if these reviews would go in depth to see how the components would perform with adequate cooling and how much performance your'e keeping on the table for a small form factor device
The fans sound super loud in this video. I hope someone will show us how it really sounds in their review and maybe compare it to the previous gen for reference.
I do often see that 'switching the panel directly to the dGPU' on laptops that can do it, results in missing functionality (like HDR or most importantly, variable refreshrate). On a machine with a rtx3050ti 35watt (lowest of the 3000 series basically) I see none to very little performance difference, but having VRR between 48 and 120 makes all the difference in how it feels!. (And my laptop is wired in such a way that one of the USB-C ports is always connected to the dGPU, and the other always to the onboard graphics. If you know this, it helps when you connected an external display directly to the dGPU). But for the laptop panel itself, I always prefer to let it go through the intel-xe graphics. It makes all the difference for battery life if you don't game (Without having to restart) and as I said, VRR makes all the difference if it doesn't work on your dGPU (it often does not because of the LVDS connector I guess).
Got this one and I am really, really happy with the build quality and how cool and smooth it runs. Previously on a 2016 MacBook Pro, scales up well. Not another windows plastic crap house.
Is it possible to lower the in-game resolution and still achieve the same performance, or will it make the game look blurry on a 3.2K panel and result in a less sharp gaming experience?
My "old" Lenovo Legion is also slim. Which sounds better than it is. It is VERY ...deep. AND power and other plugs go straight out the back. If you have a small desk, for example in a hotel it get's quite cramped. If you don't, it's fine.
Running legion slim 5, R7-7840HS, 16GB 5600MHz ram and RTX4070* This gets me the same exact performance in RDR2, CP2077 and SeaOfThieves as my old rusty gamingpc. Specs: i9 9900K, 32GB 6000MHz, RTX2080 Super... Gaming station costed me a arm and a leg 4years ago, today, I get the exact same performance with a laptop, at USD1500 (15,990NOK here in Norway) laptops are kinda good now.
Watching this on my Legion 5 and I love that Lenovo is just continuing to improve their Legion design. Makes it a pretty easy choice for me if I need to upgrade.
The 4070M definitely should’ve had 10GBs of VRAM with a 160bit bus, since that would do a bit better. I dunno how the 115 watt mode compares to the 3070ti mobile, but hopefully it’s better.
I'm still kind of lost in the difference between this and the Slim 5i. I purchased the Slim 5i, it's great but everything seems very similar to the more expensive 7i??
the 7 series offers slightly higher performance gear....so if you wanted to spend more for better performance you can and this holds true for the slim 5/7 variants. The 5 series is more bang for your buck, so if you wanted best value over best performance that was a good route. I can't speak to the extra bells and whistles of the 7 over the 5 when it come to generation 8 (2023)....the non-slim 5 and 7 gen 8 got a downgrade from the gen 7 in terms of build quality and things like glass trackpad no longer there etc so there isn't as much to talk about in terms of differences outside of hardware....but the gen8 overall has other added features like more fan and temp control u might not want to skip out on so don't just go straight for the cheaper gen7. In terms of the slim 7i gen8 I honestly can't find proper comparison reviews in terms of the little build materials like trackpad materials and what not though. You should be more than happy with your slim 5i gen8 purchase. I am looking at the slim 7i simply cause I know lenovo laptops last forever and I want it to future proof myself a bit more even at an extra cost. If anyone wanted an even cheaper version that is even MORE bang for your buck, then the legion 7 slim gen 7 (2022) is 50% off right now....I would have bought that if I didn't want to spend more money....a very tempting bang for your buck deal even if you just buy that and use it for 1 or 2 years it was so cheap you can justify your next laptop even sooner.

I have the last gen and it gets toasty. I'm typing on it right now. Looks exactly like the one shown here. It's way nicer than I was expecting.
oh an one thing kind of not mentioned is mine has 16gb but 8gb is soldered. so its not really that upgradeable.
@@timothystevenhoward thats the last gen one. this one can get more
I have the first version that they released in the us, been waiting on ltt to review one of these, everything alexs loves is why i picked mine up, it is a 10th gen i7 with a 3060...

Thank you Alex for measuring the weight! Many reviewers don’t do it which is the important factor for portability and these slim gaming laptops. I was expecting Lenovo is wrong in advertising as they haven’t changed anything in chassis design compared to 2022 Slim.
checks the weight in lbs and then goes like what is that in real units 😂😂
🤣 well yeah he's a true Cannuck
I've got the Legion Pro 5 with a 3070 and it's still a beast, great laptop
Can we talk about Lenovo's crappy sales tactics with their "estimated value" saying a 1800 dollar laptop is worth $5,000 and they mark it half off to make it appear like a good value?
This is $1500 for an i7 13700h 16gb ram rtx 4060.
Totally agree! Inflated prices with ridiculous discounts and endless cupons! It’s just so annoying.
Got the legion 7 slim with 7840 hs and 4060 for 1150$. I mean all those sellers do stupid pricing and "deals". But i couldnt find anything near that price on thw other sites so i am ok with :)
@@redknight2120
Where did you get it for that price?
It may be crappy but it does work. This practice has been around for decades.
Regardless they do have some good prices.
I’d honestly go for this laptop if I was in the market for one.
Just pulled the trigger on this with help from your review! I'm upgrading from an HP envy 17 from 2016, so pretty much anything is going to blow me away I think, but I'm so excited anyway :D
I got the 3070 one a couple months ago
LOVE the build quality and the num pad
Can I you about the battery life? How long does the laptop last when you just do web browsing or watch youtube videos on battery?
Anyone else noticed how most the sponsered short circuits these days are "awesome" "love to see it" "this is amazing"
What happened to genuine unboxing?
And didn't mention about a network port (RJ45), a must in my opinion..... it has been mention in other laptops.....
Well it's clearly a commercial more then anything else, port wise its doing worse then my legion 5 pro 2021 model , and lets not forget the price , its double
Wait... you're telling me that sponsored videos are biased? NO. WAY. 😱
Any fan noise or thermal issues?
Lenovo has a tendency to hide RAM slots under the keyboard on the opposite side of the mainboard. Not sure if this is the case here, but it could explain the discrepancy of the advertised 2 slots but you finding only one
i have 2 older thinkpads that do that. one has a single slot on either side. i have an older dell workstation laptop that also does that. 2 slots per side
No it only has one replaceable slot, and other one is soldered RAM.
Just a note to aspiring buyers about the day to day use you wouldn’t think about
Just got my first Lenovo Legion PC 2 days ago. Love it and a great value.
I couldn't see your scale setting but if like mine is lbs + oz vs decimal notation. That would make it closer to 4.45lbs, not a functional difference but at least makes Lenovo seem more honest.
Due to voltage limits, as long as that 4070 os around 100 watts, it will perform the same as a 140w
Every time Shortcircuit hosts Alex in a new video, he quite litterally cracks open the box.
whats up with him treating everything like junk? seems strange.
@@bernRArandom = funny. Do it all the time = inside joke
The 1 soldered/1 slot RAM situation is pretty common for smaller gaming laptops. The Asus G14 and G15 are the same.
I wish Short Circuit would review some budget laptops. I can't remember the last time I saw them do that if ever.
This is a budget laptop these days 😂

Lenovo has been killing it for a while. Love my Legion from 2 years ago and this one will be on my list for an upgrade
Mickey Mouse mode during the camera test is excellent :D
I have a slim 7 from last year, and it's awesome!
I need this so bad!!! I'm currently using the Lenovo Legion Tower 5 and I am in love with the Lenovo brand.
The headtracker is also really useful in flight simulators
WAIT A MINUTE you can set to use gpu only when plugged in? HOWW? is that setting is in vantage?
@@meesup5672 Yep! In Lenovo Vantage, GPU Working Mode on the right side you gotta set that to Hybrid-Auto Mode. It has done WONDERS for my battery life.
a number pad is a must !
5:38 "I like a big one" same Alex.. same..
(for clarity, I mean a 2 in 1 touchscreen laptop with dedicated GPU that can be rotated 360° amd be used as a tablet too)
Alex's chaotic unboxing of laptops will never not excite me.
Just ordered the 4060 version. Can’t wait to check it out. Decent price on the UK Rewards Store
Have you got it

The APU spec sheet even says that it supports way more I/O, so that's not APU limitation, but HP motherboard's.
but it has dedicated HDMI, wdym?

Right choice dude, the legion is a huge market changer for gaming laptops these years. Razer made a good start, but Lenovo performed the idea well.
I have an old 2018 msi laptop and it's not the Best for.build quality and durability. Next time I'm going with legion.
That noctua hoodie is nice
I just hate matt display. It ruins display quality and i don't care about reflection and glare on screen.
Every brand must provide glossy option in all their laptop series
I'm still using a 2019 Legion but this looks super tempting as an upgrade
To this day I still haven't found a laptop with a keyboard as good as my Lenovo x230. That thing is awesome!

so you all don't bust out the mac book speaker comparison for sponsored videos?
I mean I'd like it if these reviews would go in depth to see how the components would perform with adequate cooling and how much performance your'e keeping on the table for a small form factor device
Better wait for Jarrod's Tech channel for that kind of review.
The fans sound super loud in this video. I hope someone will show us how it really sounds in their review and maybe compare it to the previous gen for reference.
Neat. Now if only there are Phoenix (Zen4 & RDNA3) based laptop with mediocre screen but under 800 usd, that will be even better.
'what's that in real units' that's my boy
How is the performance, battery and weight.
Which varient did you buy
Is it possible to lower the in-game resolution and still achieve the same performance, or will it make the game look blurry on a 3.2K panel and result in a less sharp gaming experience?
3.2K is not enjoyable for any game without atleast a 4080 or similar high end well watted GPU. Just get the 1440p panel with higher refresh rate.
I'm guessing you aren't allowed to get out the XPS or MacBook Pro to do a speaker comparison in a sponsored video? 🤣
My "old" Lenovo Legion is also slim. Which sounds better than it is. It is VERY ...deep. AND power and other plugs go straight out the back. If you have a small desk, for example in a hotel it get's quite cramped.
If you don't, it's fine.
LMG sponsored videos are getting worst... No more real reviews. No more comparisons, nothing. Just a simplistic analysis of the laptop.

I spec'd this on Lenovo's website as you went through it. This exact config is $2479.99 USD
