This lesson would be difficult to follow if you haven't taken the basic 한글 (Hangul, Korean alphabets) lesson yet. In that case, you can start your first hangul lesson here:
    • Learn Hangul 한글 (Korea...
받침 (batchim, aka the final consonant) is part of hangul that confuses learners the most. So I made separate lessons (part1, part2, part 3 - the other two will be up as well) to explain more in-depth about 받침. It's a long lesson because I've included a lot of read-it-together practice. If you find it too long, you can always speed up the video or skip to only the parts you need help with.
I'll see you in the next part 2 video (the link is at the top). We'll learn more about 자음동화 (consonant assimilation) a little of which we've also covered in this vid at ㅎ받침 section and at the very last bit.

    Compound Final Consonant : ruclips.net/video/Qo-Tp409sKE/видео.htmlsi=bZn5FMJSneReBXnH
*Here are some corrections to standardized romanization :
ㄱ as a final consonant is romanized as "k"
    01:26 약 : yak
    02:18 미국 : mi-guk
    02:47 책 : chaek
    03:12 한국 : han-guk
ㄷ as a final consonant is romanized as "t"
    05:10 곧 : got
(same applies to ㅅ,ㅈ,ㅊ,ㅌ,ㅎ as a final consonant)
    ✅Useful Notes on Romanizations :
If you are studying with my book, you'll notice that the romanizations for some words are different from the video. As mentioned in the book guide, the book uses standardized romanization. For the most accurate romanizations, please refer to the book.
The reason why different resources provide varying romanizations is that each believes their version best represents the pronunciation in English. This confusion often stems from the fact that Korean and English have different pronunciation systems. However, there is a standardized system for romanizations of Korean words, which the book follows.
Aside from providing place names to foreigners or when teaching Hangeul to foreign students for the first time, it's uncommon to use romanized letters for Korean words. So ultimately, at some point, you will need to get comfortable reading Hangeul alone and drop romanization for more effective studies. Therefore, when studying Hangeul and using romanization, **it is recommended to practice recalling the Korean pronunciation that each romanized letter represents,** rather than taking the letters at face value.
If you're interested in my book, feel free to check the description box :)

(Don’t mind me I’m just writing my notes)
ㅅ in batchim is pronounced like ㄷ
ㅊ is this also prounounced like ㄷ
ㄱㅋ are pronounced like a g when like only 억
And when their is another consonant it’s pronounced like with it thogether
(기억이 normal and when it’s with a consonant it’s pronounced like 기어기)
Batchim is only in the bottom of a word like 한
ㅌ in batchim is like a fast t
ㅂㅍ in batchim is like a p with no air
ㅎ in batchim depends on the consonant next to it if it’s ㅇ then ㅎ will have no sound
ㅎ when followed by ㄴ makes the sound ㄴ and the consonant is preserved
ㅎ when followed by ㄱ is that they both combine and make a ㅋ sound
ㅎ when followed by ㄷ is that they both combine and make a ㅌ sound
ㅎ when followed by ㅈ is that they both combine and make a ㅊ sound
Their is no word that has ㅎ batchim followed by ㄹ

i'm a korean. good video for korean learners. but there is a error on this video 24:35
you said 부엌이's pronunciation is pronounced as '부어키'(boo eo ki) but it's wrong.
because when 'ㅋ' is used as a 받침(bad chim) it's pronunciation change into 'ㄱ'
so it has to be pronounced '부어기'(boo eo gi).
    korean's 받침(bad chim) can have only 7 sounds 'ㄱ ㄴ ㄷ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅇ' and koreans call it '7종성법'
and here is the examples 밥물[밤물] 집는다[짐는다] 앞날[압날>암날]
    맏며느리[만며느리] 받는다[반는다] 밭머리[받머리>반머리]
    국물[궁물] 속는다[송는다] 흙냄새[ 흑냄새.흥냄새]

I found that the last letter of the name of each consonant also tells you what batchim it is! For example, "shi-ot" or "ㅅ" is pronounced like "s" but shi-ot batchim has a soft "t" sound, just like the word "shi-ot" itsself. This works for basic and double consonants! Hope this helps for anyone else learning like me!!

Simple notes these are the only rules I know so far T_T
If these consonants come at the end syllable they all sound like this:
    1) ㄱ+ㅋ+ㄲ = K sound instead of g
    2) ㄴ= n sound
    3)ㄷ+ㅅ+ㅈ+ㅊ+ㅌ+ㅎ+ㅆ = t sound
    4) ㄹ= L sound
    5)ㅁ= m sound
    6)ㅂ+ㅍ= p sound
    7)ㅇ= ng sound
    8) ㄹㄱ +ㄹㅁ= L not pronounced but instead the second consonant is pronounced. E.g. 삶 = Sam not salm
    9) ㄴㅈ + ㄴㅎ + ㄹㅂ+ ㅂㅅ= only 1st consonant is pronounced 앉다 = anda not anjda
    8) if vowelㅣ(i) is after ㄷ(d) then ㄷ(d) is pronounced as ㅈ (j) e.g. 해돋이 = haedoji not haedodi
    9) if vowelㅣ(i) is after ㅌ (t) then it is pronounced as ㅊ(ch) e.g. 같이 = gachi not gati
    10) Moving onto the ㅎ (H) batchim:
a)if ㅇ(ng) comes after ㅎ (h) then the H sound is removed e.g. 좋안요 = 조아요 (joayo not johayo)
    b)if ㄴ(n) comes after ㅎ (h) then the H sound becomes ㄴ (N) without removing the next N e.g. 좋나ㅣ= 존나ㅣ(jonnae not johnae)
    c)if ㄱ (g) comes after ㅎ (H) then H sound becomes ㅋ(K) e.g. 좋가ㅣ= 조카ㅣ(jokae not johgae)
    d)if ㄷ (d) comes after ㅎ (H) then H sound becomes ㅌ(t) e.g. 좋다 =조타 (jota not johoda)
    e)if ㅈ (j) comes after ㅎ (h) then H sound becomes ㅊ(ch) e.g.좋지 = 조차 (jocha not johoja)

I stopped by this channel months ago, i first write all of the vowels and consonants in my notebook, then watch the first and second part in detail, writing all of the things i thought necessary, memorized all the hangeul, then learn the batchim, i also try to improve by searching for words in google random word generator, and then translated it, covering the proper hangeul and only reading the romanization slightly, then making my own 'practice' page on my notebook. now i came here to say thank you, you are helping so many people !! may you have a great great life

I do have a question, sometimes when you are pronouncing a word that has a "g" sound, the "g" sound turns into a K sound. How do you know when to pronounce "kk" or "gg" sounds? Love your videos btw!

      Check her this video: ruclips.net/video/KsdOj6woNJA/видео.html
She tried her best to explain the difference between ㄱ and ㅋ sounds that most people get confused with.

I think the reason is because it has an vowel after it so it makes an k sound

Hi, you explain so well. I swear the pronunciations in korean are the most difficult. But so far, using your lessons, I can clear a lot of my doubts. I have started to recognize words and read them also. Thank you ❤
I wish that you would upload a video showing how the tongue position should be while pronouncing the consonants.

You are the only teacher, I can rely upon. You make it all so easy though it's not easy. I really find your videos most helpful. Thank you unnie. After watching the batchim lessons I am so much scared to move to constant assimilation video. But I also want to learn to read haungul-oh.
