I'm 6 months away from this trip but here is an update on my life and plans for the nearish future! It's actually cheaper to fly to India and back to learn yoga there than to take a course at a studio in my area, especially since I won't be paying rent while I'm gone. Let me know if you guys want to hear about where I am planning to go and budgeting/planning this trip.
My yoga mat: amzn.to/2Mgs6qX
*this is an affiliate link. I rate the mat 9/10 but I wish it was had a little more grip to it and I have the longer options since I'm 5'9 Развлечения
I got depressed when I moved back from New York to Mississippi. While living in NYC it was so easy to jump a bus or train somewhere to travel on weekends, plus I feel like an outcast living in the south “in this political climate” I should say. So I’m wanting to move either to Portland or Seattle. Love your videos!
With this recent election results in Texas I'm 100% with you on that
Please can you create a playlist of all your Minimalism videos so I don't have to search through everything? I'm sure other viewers would appreciate this too. Great content.
I didn't even realize I had enough videos to this, thanks for the suggestion will do!
Yes. You're right. I'd have a seperate playlist for that too.
I love listening to you speak. You aren't trying too hard and your voice is pretty soothing 😊
congrats on pursuing your yoga teacher training! as someone who uses restorative yoga as part of my mental health plan, it is very inspiring to see you incorporate it and 'add' to your health qualifications! thanks for spreading the love
This is very inspiring! Great to here your mental health is doing better too :)
You have such a fabulous attitude and beautiful energy! I'm so glad that I found your channel. Thank you for putting such great content on RUclips!!!
Wow, this is so exciting for you! I'm so happy for your journey.
I found your channel yesterday I believe, and it has been so inspiring! I've been into the idea of minimalism for about a two years, after watching The Mustards here on YT. Over this period I've been able to declutter a bit. However, I still have more stuff than I'm comfortable with. I've moved about 3 times this past year and each time the packing has been so stressful. I want to minimize my stuff so I can feel better about travelling and moving in the future. With the place I'm at now, I know I'll be here for at least a year, so I want to take this this time to really go through my things and create a relaxing space. I've had a lot of anxiety these past 3 months as well, and I feel minimalism might help with that too. Anyways - I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from you! I would love to hear more about your trip to India. Much love and I hope your spirits stay lifted!
You are so lovely #girlcrush

I was so inspired to just do a overhaul on my whole room. Thank you for your videos.
Hey :) I love your vibe and how honest you are! I downsized a lot before I went travelling through SE Asia, Sri Lanka and Aus/NZ for a year. But, now I’ve been back in the London for a little over 6 months now, I’ve gradually accumulated more and more. Mostly decorative pieces and kitchen stuff, which both bring me joy so I don’t mind too much. I just always think about when we next go travelling or move country how much of a pain it’ll be. Good luck on your travels, super glad I found your channel :)
I am so happy I have found your channel!! I have been enjoying your videos!! I live in Texas too!
Congrats on 70k😍 you deserve many more!!
Thanks for doing these videos, Janell! I've been thinking about minimalism on and off (easily getting distracted lol) and it helps to see someone living it and thriving! Im in nursing school right now and have a goal of being more minimalistic by the time I'm a travel nurse so vids like this are really motivating :)
Good luck Janell! Keep your spirits up! Hoping to see you around Southeast Asia in the coming year. :)
Good to see you again. Hope everything goes as planned and you have a wonderful time in Asia
Thank you!!
I wasnt really into minimalism bc i like having a lot of decorations and lil memories on my desk and walls and floors, i feel it makes me happy :) but lately i noticed i couldnt do any work bc it distracts me. So your channel really helped me sort some things out!! :)
This video is just exactly what I needed today and reassuring. Thank you
Definitely it is my goal to have less things, but it is a process that takes time.
I am very happy to know that you are going to upload more often. Looking forward to your new videos :)
thank you (:
I’m new here and I just subscribed without seeing what’s up, but that’s because I know what I’m seeing and I’ll love it
Omg...tell me why i literally had a whole revelation about doing travel nursing myself as well as going to india to do my yoga cert!!?? I havent watched the whole vid yet cus im at work but giiiirlll. Youre awesome :) 💛
not to mention extreme downsizing on my end too lmao youre my spirit animal
I think we are vibing on the same frequency my friend :)
I feel like your are the adult version of me, I start nursing school and would love to travel nurse one day, your channel is so inspiring for me, not a lot of people are into minimalism or even appreciate a sunset, sorry for the ramble but its nice seeing someone I can relate to so much.
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing. I'd enjoy a video about your wardrobe too :)
Good luck to you on your travel nursing adventures! This is my 3rd year nursing (I’m ER, too! Whoop whoop) 2 of which I’ve spent working with a travel nurse agency. It kind of blows my mind that I’m currently thinking of scaling back and having a more meaningful, minimalistic approach to living and in doing so, I discover your channel (which is very helpful!) and it just so happens that we’re both ER nurses in TX lol.
SharieShine Awesome!
YAY!!! Omg you have such a calm and serene spirit i think you teaching yoga would be awesome even if its just volunteering. I think we all would love to hear how youre budgetting/ planning for your trip. SRSLY idk why its SO hard for me to make meditating a habit its so helpful but the minute Im preoccupied which is always it goes out the window. I need to minimize more I'm moving soon and I won't have help so the less i bring the better ive been decluttering for weeks now and trying to be mindful abt it and finding new homes w. Other ppl for things. But i still have certain items that are tricky that i may move w. And sell later on thankfully its only a few items but still. I wish i personally knew more ppl who likes my style like hair scarves i have way too many im looking to downsize those i may ultimately have to sell it or something.
I am the same way about meditating I do it once I week instead of for shot bits daily. Good luck on downsizing and the move and thank you for watching!!
aahh Rishikesh is AMAZING place! I’m so happy you are going! you won’t regret! It’s my fave place ever.
Lots of love
i love your videos so much youve really helped me make some positive changes. im much more focused on what i want and how to achieve that because of you. so thanks so much. keep the videos coming im sure youre helping lots of people.
Revolutionary. Thank you.
Oh nice! I’ve been to Rishikesh, it’s beautiful and then mountains are magnificent. There’s lot of places to camp by the Ganges.
Would you recommend bringing a tent? And thank you!
I love your plans and your energy! I totally want to go to India as well but I am also a bit freaked out about seeing the poverty and not being able to do anything about it...
Coming from Slovenia with all four season, I am dreaming about warmer climate all year long and not having to have so much clothes for each season!
Thank you! I'm trying to prepare myself and do as much research as I can about it. I know I won't be able to change it but I can at least learn from it.
Theres literally poverty all over the world and plenty of non poverty places in india....
I'm in Texas but have lived in tons of places around the states. Get out if you can! I would if I could because this weather is just horrible. I am a winter lover and we don't get that here :(
Glad to hear you're doing better! Happy to listen to you talk about your dreams and goals! Go get them!
I would love to if I can make it work! And thank you!!
I love your dimples! 😍❤️ Also could we get a video that solely a nursing update?
Yes I've been meaning do one soon nursing is just 99.9% of my life it's since to have little breaks to talk about minimalism and other stuff!
I’m a nurse too! :)
I just traded the humid summers of DC for cool San Francisco and whether i consider myself a minimalist or not, my apartment size has forced me to do so 😂
I’m not a traveler but i know lots of em. It’s a great opportunity! Especially if you want to travel. Work work work and bank that money, then take off for a month!
Your energy gives me life😍.
One of the reasons I wanted be minimalist is because I wanted the freedom to travel easily and without restriction, I love the TV tip, I don't have a TV in my room, but I need to think of a system for my computer! Enjoy yourself while you're in this cycle!
Thank you! I need to do the same for my computer haha
I started my first travel nursing two days before you posted this video! Part of the reason I want to start a minimalist lifestyle is so I can travel more (leisurely and professional). You’ll love it. Start checking out agencies at least 8 weeks or so before your 2 year anniversary.
that's awesome!!
My husband is a travel nurse and we, with our two year old, live in full time in our 5th wheel RV and we travel all over. If my husband has like 4 days off or something we'll take off for that time and just go exploring on a whim. It's seriously so fun!!! 💜 I hope you love it so much!
If I like travel nursing getting an RV is something I'm considering in a few years!
I discovered your channel from a comment you'd left on a video about solo female travel in India, and now I've binged a bunch of your content. Love your videos and relate to a lot of what you said. I also work in healthcare and am heading to Rishikesh to do a YTT, and would love to use it in a volunteer fashion like you mentioned. Hope your trip to India is amazing! Best of luck xx
If you’re there in late March/early April let’s meet for a chai!
@@JanellKristina That would be lovely :) I'll keep an eye on your movements on insta (sorry that sounds creepy hahah) and maybe we can meet up!
Yay another Charmed fan!
Check out living in West Virginia! The hottest it usually gets here is in the eighties! We have all four seasons, and it's one of the most gorgeous states in the fall!
Cool... Hello from India... You are always welcome to India...
think you for your videos the way you talk about minimalism realy resonates with my feelings towards this subject I already have declutered many many things and now I can kind of feel a shift happening in my mind also. I feel a lot les stessed out. Looking forward to your yoga trip to India. I'd like to start a morning routine with yoga but have not found the 'right thing' for me jet.
YESSS that is awesome to hear! The the mind changes are the best. Try just getting on the mat for 30 seconds everyday. If that's all you do you've accomplished the goal, but more is likely to happen!
A friend of mine’s mom is a midwife and they’re always looking for traveling nurses in Alaska, she’s gone there to work before.
I just started watching your videos. I started this journey a year ago and I am starting to get more serious about it. If you have any tips to give, that would be amazing. You are an inspiration for me!
Ah I loved watching this! Will you share your process of downsizing even more?
I have a video planned in a month or so!
I can't wait for that video :D

I have that same plan too! My second year is up next November but I really enjoy my floor and co-workers however... the urge to travel is so fierce 😬
the travel urge is the realest! Who know's what things will be like in a year and if you leave on good terms I'm sure they would always take you back!
This channel and your videos are so wonderful! I really want to go to India and really up my yoga practice then blow my savings in southeast Asia hahaha similar life plans x
Do it! If it want haha
I hope you will come to Bhutan someday. I am sure you will love it here. Not very far from India. Loving your videos and I can relate to yours as I am on somewhat similar journey. Keep going 👍
1.) your channel is so inspiring. From your art and sense of style, to your intentions and love for the simple things in life, I’ve really enjoyed your videos. :)
2.) I did my 200h RYT almost 9 years ago and I’m so glad I did. I sub classes every now and then, especially yin yoga. It was time and money well spent to dive deeper into something that I know improves my life and so many others’ lives. I hope you enjoy your program.
3.) If you’re serious about learning another language, duolingo is great, and their desktop site is even better. (Each question links to a discussion forum that can explain a question you might have.) and you can choose to remove the word bank which helps to practice recall as opposed to just recognition. Also, I can’t recommend the Pimsleur language programs enough. They focus on listening and speaking skills. I checked mine out from the library which saved a ton of money.
Peace.
fenestra thanks for the language recommendation!
Where did u get the triangle where you have your candle and crystals?
I love your channel.
You should come nursing in
Switzerland, we have four
seasons. Spring - warm and
some light rain, Summer - hot
but not excessive, Autumn -
gorgeous time. Wonderful
snowy winter. Salaries are
high and there is a great demand
for nurses. Nice modern places
to stay as well.
I am from India and I think you said it pretty perfectly. 🙂
Could def use more minimalism in my life. Although I’ve been trying to minimize since last year, I put myself on a strict budget this past month and was able to cut my monthly miscellaneous spending down to 1/4 of what it usually is. Everything is starting to make more sense now.
I'd give you a big ol' pat on the back if I could, congrats!!
Hi! I only recently came across your channel but really love your videos, energy and the way you talk about life, so please keep sharing ~ you seem to be a natural at this :)
Last year I took a year off sabbatical from work to travel (very very frugally) and ended up studying yoga in Bali and India also. I was fairly skeptical initially visiting Rishikesh based on hearing many stories (similar to what another commenter said) about the "yoga tourism" there and the unprofessionalism of many "yoga teachers/gurus" there taking advantage of Western female students. Somehow life had planned for me to meet my spiritual teacher there, and I ended up staying there for a month when I initially just planned a few days. Just use your best judgement!
Also, if you can swing it, I would recommend NOT booking ahead online for a YTT course before actually arriving and being able to meet the teachers, see the space/accommodations, etc etc. I had a friend do this, pay for the whole thing and everything turned out to be completely different from what he was sold on, and many students left the course within days of starting, including him. Hopefully that's an anomaly, but it does happen. India is full of lovely people, it's an amazing country unlike any other, but there is also a dark side. Happy to help if you have any Qs when it's close to planning time for your trip! All the best to you.
thank you for this! I've been hesitant booking in advance
Oh and if it makes you feel better, I had the same hamster and she lived for four years !!! I don’t know why but she was my first pet when i was younger and I used to play with her all the time And give her baths
I also want to go to rishikesh to study yoga! I recently watched Amanda from applesandamandas videos on her experiences and it truly sparked something in me that made me even more motivated to go for it! I want to travel and have the experience to learn about something I love and so I'm currently researching to find more opportunities like this!
I hadn't heard of her channel so I checked it out and totally about to watch her yoga videos! GO FOR IT! It took me about three months of saying "this is something cool I could do one day" to "okay this is going to happen in six months"
Awesome ☺️
Your place looks amazing. I have sooooo much crap I don’t need. I need to get rid of it because deep inside it will make me feel better. I need to just do it!
Amazing plans you have. I do wish to travel nursing one day or do PRN. I dream about the freedom to travel more and spend time with the ones I love. I feel like I am at work all the time and I have no control over my schedule and PTO accumulates at a snail pace 🤣
The PTO struggle is REAL. Best wishes for your travel plans!
Sounds awesome your plans. If you want a place to call home come to San Diego. If really beautiful here.
I hope you enjoy Rishikesh! It's a beautiful city! You pronounced it well, by the way. The "r" sound on it is something like an L + R sound that's super weird to explain, haha. The rest of it sounds basically like it's written in English :)
thank you!
OT but I'm so glad to see your hammy cared for the right way. It's crazy how many times I've seen hamsters, mice, gerbils in tiny cages and owners wonder why they start acting strange or turn to bar biting! I made my hammy a home from a storage bin too! :) I've not long started my minimalism journey and I'm not completely there yet. I've still got a lot more purging to do. It's not my belongings that are the problem anymore it's my 2 kids belongings that I need to tackle now! 😣
Just curious, do you know what training program you are going to do in Rishikesh?? I am actually searching for one at the moment, wondering if you had heard of any good ones??
Your channel and videos are amazing and inspiring, I feel like we have so much in common. Also you pronounced Rishikesh correctly :)
Can you talk about how you stay so disciplined with what you do ??? Like how do you focus so much on longterm goals? I have a lot of trouble with this
Really want to get rid of just about everything I own.
Ken B like I want to throw my whole damn apartment away
This is awesome!! I wish I could do this.
it took me SEVERAL years and I could have done it with less if I believed I could, you can too!
Thank you. I really wish I could travel though I was kinda talking about that. I think it's so cool that you are going to India I hope you have a lot of fun. It really is a wonderful thing to travel and see a new and different place.
that's what I meant sorry! I had to work and study hard for several years until i got a job/career that gave me some flexibility, then it took a while to save up after that!
Ohh don't apologize. I was just trying to clarify what I was talking about. Okay I totally understand.
Do you think you’ll ever do a meetup in TX?
great video! where did you buy your coach? what brand is it?
Ikea :)
I love this look . What lip color is that that you have on ?
It's a burts bees tinted chap stick!
Come to seattle when you do traveling rn!
You should definitely do a yoga video!
Hello from India. You said it correctly , Rishikesh. Let me know if I can help you with anything I have already been to Rishikesh last year.
Please film in India! Also, if you can film advice on packing moving on the go for travel nursing. Not being creepy, but you have a calming demeanor and voice.
😍 you’re dope. Hi, I’m Jae. 👋🏾
Come to Indiana!
Which yoga school are you going to in Rishikesh?
Just saw this and now it has been 6 months since you posted this video, so are you in Rishikesh already?
I am from by the way and you pronounced it correctly :)
Please visit Portland Oregon and maybe move there! I’m a new subscriber and I think you would thrive in Portland because there are a lot of like minded individuals
I just have a quick question. What laptop or computer do you use to edit your vids? I’m looking for recommendations. Thanks!
Cassius Malik I use I movie on Mac book pro!
Janell Kristina thank you so much!!! Love the content! Keep up the great work!!
Hi! Could you tell me which school have you chose for your teacher training and why? Im looking for school un goa but its so dificult to decide.. there are thousands.. how did you get to chose?
If you send me a message or DM I'll let you know, just for privacy. I mainly looked at bookyogaretreats.com, found people who made video post there, then looked up the location tag on IG and messaged a few people who went to see if they recommended it!
You pronounce Hrishikesh correctly. Also if you can do try white water rafting. Wish you a very happy and healthy journey to India!
I will add this to my list, do you know if it is safe to swim in the river in rishikesh?
Janell Kristina as much as I am aware it's only suggested with proper guidance of the instructor because of the mountain region the river is unsafe to swim without proper knowledge about the current.
What type of travel nursing do you do? I’m an OR nurse and I’ve been thinking of doing travel nursing once I have more experience
85arrie I’m in ER now I haven’t started traveling yet!
Good luck on your future travels!!
I am a nurse and from India. Would love to go learn yoga with you
What tarot deck do you have?
I just got the Dreams of Gaia deck and I have been loving the Osho Zen deck for a few years now!
You're pornuncing it right. Rishikesh it is. I did my 200 hours from there as well (I'm an Indian btw). It was a wonderful experience. Exhausting but wonderful. After that I also worked there for about an year (in couple different yoga schools). After a while I started feeling like most teachers in Rishikesh basically view yoga as nothing more than a money making business. Since I worked directly with the teachers, I was exposed to everything that happens backstage. They were literally laughing at student's problems behind their face, regular smokers were conducting classes on how to quit smoking (it was also always crazy expensive), and they were trying to find a money making strategy with every problem their students could come up with (like this certain student has decision making difficulties, why don't we learn something off the internet about decision making and then create a weekend workshop on it?!). It was painful to watch it all so I quit and moved away.
However, I still cherish the month I spent during my YTTC. I met some amazing people, some I am still in love with and whatever the teacher's intention is behind the close doors, what they have to offer in class is still pretty mindful. There's so much to learn and it opens up space for us to ask new questions and explore our curiosity further.
So all the best.
Despite all the bullshit, the city is utterly beautiful and peaceful and YTTC will certainly become a memory you'll love to hold onto.
I'm in Texas too lol
Love your tattoo
I wouldn't have guessed that you're 5'9!!
I am India you pronounced Rishikesh pretty well. I would say 7/10. It’s pronounced rishi- kay-sh.I totally feel annoyed by own stuff like clothes that I don’t wear, junk mail, receipts, makeup from my experimental makeup phase ( 5yrs)
05:53 which country in South-east Asia that you want to visit the most? Greetings from Indonesia! :D
As a retired nurse. I think you have a great career ahead. Love to watch the vids. Be safe when you travel
Come over!!!!!!! Also i am planning to buzzcut tomorrow too. We might have the same head shape. Idk lol. BTW where are you heading for the yoga training? Contact me if you wanna sync (insta @kuhoochandra)
Also, this is really weird but there are too many jinxes in this video. I rewatched That 70s Show too, quit my job to declutter and go to my childhood town (rishikesh, dehradoon) .. weird lol
Anyway, have a good day!
Kuhoo Chandra I’m planning to go in March!
Can I go with you to somethin-kesh?
5:22 lol
I really hope you go to Kathmandu!! They have yoga classes and other spiritual healing modalities. Nepal is a lot cheaper than India and safer - as a solo female traveler; safety is important and Nepal is one of the safest countries I've ever been to. People are also a lot nicer, more tolerant, and there are less scammers than those in India.
There are many tourists and expats in Nepal, a great community if you need any help.
You can find yoga retreats in Nepal at bookyouryogaretreats.com
You can also ask about yoga certification programs at Nepali Facebook groups. Or ask when you arrive there. TripAdvisor is another great source.
@@commander3576 I would LOVE to visit Nepal but I won't be able to on this trip unfortunately, thank you for the recommendations though!
Nnnnnnooooo don’t leave us!
Awwww! We'll have six months with lots of videos before then!
I'm curious to know how old you are?
julsca 24
Learn to make Indian food, its healthy! And once I started getting rid of things not needed, hard to stop!!! Not minimalist, but hate clutter!
Aww it’s actually ree-SHE-kayy-shhh
