I love your quote, "it doesn't matter if you're drowning in 2 feet of water or 20. You're still drowning." It's important to realize that sadness happens to people in many different situations and you're allowed to be sad even if others have it worse than you. Suffering Olympics don't help anyone.
I really needed this. My parents are finally divorcing and we're moving out next week. In a few days I have a TEAS exam for nursing school. And then on the 14th my last 17 unit semester starts. There's so much change right now, but I'm going to use this video to get my life in control to the best of my ability. Wish me luck 😩❤️
My favourite was : "It doesn't matter if you're drowning in 20 feet of water or 2 feet of water, you're still drowning." Whenever something seems unfair or something bad happens, I'm always told and I tell myself too that there are people worse off and there is. But we have to look after ourselves too. Otherwise we won't be able to look after others. Even if the problem seems small if it's got us all up in anxiety, we should deal with it. And not dismiss it as being not big enough. Fix what we can and keep working at it. It's not only the big problems that need fixing. Just like small acts of kindness can make a person's day. If we can't do a big lot, at least do a little each day.
You are my fantasy self. No but really, your content is very thought-provoking and has helped me become more fufilled. I am so happy to have found your channel.
I am starting to realize how much stuff we hold on to. How much society has convinced us we NEED these unscrupulous items in our lives to fit in and be happy. Your videos along with my own research has taught me how to slow down and not buy things just for vanity and for the sake of ownership. It feels good to cut down and rid of things that hold zero value. Thanks for your channel, I hope you will be filming videos and uploading from my motherland India. ❤️ Safe travels!
I love how you say that you bought something you shouldn't have and you kinda "regret" it, or that you need to get better at some aspect of the minimalist life. It's such a positive thing to hear as someone who is just now starting to get into all of this! So many people in the minimalist community act as if buying stuff impulsively or not being an 100%, certified minimalist is a huge crime and it takes away my motivation because I feel like a failure from the start. Seeing you "struggling" with some things even though you already are a minimalist encourages me a lot!
Ugh you are so good! I typically hate the new year because I find it makes individuals loath themselves but this video is so calm and happy, but also realistic. Thank you.
I FINALLY got rid of my aspirational clothing items...... freeeeeddddooommmmmmmm. I REALLY need to make sure I don't buy fancy dresses, blazers, etc ANYMORE.
FYI Taste buds change overtime. Up until 3 years ago the thought of olives made me gag. Now I can’t get enough of them. No telling what I’ll be eating when I turn 40 in a few years🤦🏾♀️
Thanks Janell! My mom passed away on the 17th of December. And I’m trying to start this year on a better note. I love your videos a channel. Don’t ever change! I aspire to be like you soon. All the best! :)
i lost it when you showed the clip of your blocking Trump 😂 , anyway , this video was amazing! spent a few hours last night writing down my intentions and goals for the year. definitely adding these ideas to that list! ❤️ Happy new year 😚
Janell Kristina well , he’s the president and your not. How bout that? He’s worth billions, your not. How bout that? Oh and one more thing, he will be re elected how bout that? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Oh and I know why you’re mad 😉😉
I saw that! I stopped the video and went back and enlarged the picture. I thought, "Oh no, she follows t! She seems too hip & smart to follow him." Thank you for also noticing and letting me know she was blocking him. I feel a great sense of relief... Other than my short lived heart attack, great video as always!
You're my favourite minimalist channel 💕 the fantasy self truly needs to exit the building this year. Thank you for this video and have a lovely new year!
I've been gainfully employed for about 6 months now, and with my newfound financial security I feel like I can let a lot of my maybe/just-in-case things go now. I'll just buy/rent things when I absolutely need them!
I enjoy your advice very much. Thank you! I live at home for another year before graduation from college. My mindset isn’t the same as my loved ones, and it’s reassuring to hear such positive affirmations. So happy to hear you are going to India! Such a beautiful country, my visit was life changing. There is such a different essence to the way of life there. ❤️
I took your advice and got rid of my duvet and asked for a nice comforter for Christmas. It's a little thing but it makes cleaning my bedroom so much easier! I got rid of the top sheet a long time ago. I do have to say, finding a tailor to fix some clothes is something that seems like a pain, but it turned so so clothes into clothes that I know I will have for life.
So on point: I have just ended some long-standing conditional friendships, this is led to a decluttering and redcorating. Feels so liberating and good to be compassionate towards my 'selves" and to step gently into authenticity. Thank you Janell, beautiful.
Janell, you've inspired me to go into healthcare. Much love to you and your journey. I thought that since I suffer from mental disorders and disabilities I wouldn't be able to help other people, but you're so open about your mental health and how you've struggled with it that I'm casting my self doubt aside and am striving to do what I've wanted to do -- which was help people. Thank you.
I love the advice on sentimental items that aren’t really sentimental! For me, that would be gifts I was given by people who are no longer in my life. For instance, I was given a stuffed bear by an ex, and while I hated looking at it all the time, I felt badly about getting rid of it. Finally, I donated it, and I feel happier in my own home.
Your videos always inspire me to DO SOMETHING, whether it’s a small task in my home, or a topic or problem I’ve been avoiding thinking about, or a lifestyle change. Thank you for sharing with us. It’s appreciated.
I like the last point of how it doesn’t have to be hustle hustle all the time I feel like I push myself often to try to fit into that mindset because my struggles with adhd often slow me down, and people around me push that all the time, so that’s really nice to hear and something I really need especially for someone with constant sensory overload
Thank you so much for helping me start on minimalist journey. I love your energy and warm positive vibes I get from your videos. Your space is so zen I love it.
Gifts can carry a lot of emotional weight, and I agree that getting rid of them can spark guilt. It's important to remember in those decisive moments the intention with which the item was given -- usually to say I'm thinking of you, I love you, I thought you'd like this. In that sense each item has already fulfilled its purpose -- conveying an emotional message from the giver to the receiver. When it comes time to part with gifts, I say a silent thanks to the person who gave it, appreciate the gift for the message it carries, and then let it go. If I donate it, I take pleasure in the thought that it will have a new life with someone else. About the meditation advice -- the 20X thing sounds (sorry!) like formulaic nonsense. One's ability to apprehend and enjoy beauty is equal to one's openness. The more open you are to the true nature of reality, the less little wounds hurt and the more beauty is apparent. Thanks, Janell!
Recently bit the bullet and emptied everything in my bedroom to the floor. I did not realize I had so much stuff and got rid of a lot. Then thought I had got rid of everything I didn't need, this video helped me to realise the mental clutter is important too - thank you :)
I love the way you talk about boundaries and values, this is something I have worked with in 2018 and will continue with 2019. Great video, especially the part with decluttering non-physical things.
I’m so glad you said to get rid of your car if it is not something that you need. I’ve been meaning to sell my car for a while now and I want to move back to my moms place in so I can save up money so I can travel! I am a little afraid in disappointing my sister and her husband (we all live together I am apartment and pay rent) because they might feel like I’m taking steps backwards by leaving and selling the car that they helped me buy (I’ve been paying them back). But honestly this feels so right. There is a feeling of passion and wanderlust for the world inside of me that I’ve never felt before and it’s ok if others in my life don’t agree with it.
I seriously valued everything you said in this video. I could learn a lot from it too. What i relate to rn is with hustling day in and day out. I think it’s okay to not have everyday filled with activities or work all the time. My work is usually driven by saving for more traveling and savings in general but I like to have my me time. Looking forward to more content; you’re definitely one of my top favourites on RUclips 😊
Mental Clutter is real also I hate that honestly that feeling of everything being organized, well organized, knowing where everything is, having that space always clean is a totally different state of mind it really helps to declutter everything every two months or so and you can really see that. I am naturally kind of a messy person I usually have everything clean but my room is always a mess and honestly the moment I clean up it's so different , I sleep better, I feel a lot less anxious knowing I don't need to move things around or declutter because it's always on the back of your mind when you have a mess, also you wake up feeling better, more energy having everything well organized is just better overall it's good for your mental health as well :D
I love love love your channel! I personally feel like you talk very fast. I would listen to you for hours! Thank you for these tips, you are such a beautiful human. ❤️
i loved this video! i thought there would be a list somewhere that i can find to print out and hang it up/put in my journal but i couldn't find it so i decided to write it out myself and i'll share it incase anyone else wants this list to look back on too c: 20 physical items 1. get rid of clothes that don’t fit, damaged, or worn out 2. get rid of broken things beyond repair 3. get rid of items that you haven’t used in the past year 4. get rid of hobby items you thought you might have wanted to do 5. unsubscribe to any subscriptions that don’t meet your needs or arent necessary to your life 6. get rid of beauty products or items you don’t use 7. get rid of sentimental items that arent necessary (take a picture - itll last longer) 8. get rid of impulse buy items 9. get rid of items that you bought to be like somebody else 10. get rid of items that you really don’t want - even if you feel guilty for throwing it out 11. get rid of items that are physical that don’t have to be (shopping/brand cards, movies, etc) 12. get rid of and organize anything that causes you mental clutter 13. get rid of items you have multiples of 14. get rid of ‘just incase’ items 15. get rid of items that make you unhappy/don’t want to deal with 16. get rid of items you can live with out 17. get rid of storage items you don’t need after downsizing 18. get rid of decor that doesn’t add any value to your life 19. get rid of things you’ve been meaning to sell or donate 20. get rid of expired things 19 non physical items 1. get rid of any activities that make you feel unauthentic 2. declutter lack of self unawareness that bothers you 3. declutter fear and judgement of others 4. let go of the close mindedness you have 5. let go of unknown boundaries and understand your own 6. let go of harsh judgement of yourself and other people 7. let go of anything that doesn’t serve you 8. let go of toxic relationships 9. let go of fear when getting out of your comfort zone or being challenged 10. let go of insecurities about yourself, beliefs, your looks, etc 11. let go of future unrealistic fantasy ideals you have about yourself 12. let go of 1 bad habit 13. let go of limiting beliefs 14. let go of comparison (positive or negative) 15. give up any feelings of entitlement 16. learn to worry less 17. give up living in the past (your mistakes and failures dont define you) 18. try to get out of the habit of losing sight of the present moment 19. let go of any purchase regret youve had in the past year and start living intentionally 20. *BONUS TIP* let go of 24/7 busy lifestyle and take breaks once in a while
About the chairs in the car, I have two little chairs from REI that fit in the area where the spare tire lives so they doesn't take up any space that I would normally use in the trunk. I go camping quite a bit though and it saves me from having to lug the chairs back up to the house. I leave my eno hammock and umbrellas in the spare tire space, as well!
I gave up behavioral neuroscience and I’m trying to travel as a writer. It’s always been secondary but it’s been a childhood dream to travel and write. I let go trying to wait to retire. I’m scared as hell but doing it anyway. I have a little family and will be taking them with me. I think it will be good for all of us.
Letting go of activities that make me feel less than authentic. I know to tackle this one, I’ll have to practice some of the other items like removing fear, etc. Not an excuse but sometimes I feel I do stuff because I just don’t know how to “not” start doing it or “stop” doing it. Nonetheless, it’s a life changing event I must face!🤗 Thank you for taking the time to organize and share this list!!
been paying attention to you and marie kondo’s work lately and it’s been very helpful to me before my cross-country move and trying to decide what to keep:) another thing you didnt mention here tho is making your own food!!!! the comparison salsa and pasta sauce you showed for a second can easily be perfectly made in 15 minutes each, and i personally feel a lot better knowing exactly what i’m putting into my body rather than a whole bunch of preservatives and unidentifiable chemicals. same with bread, soup, etc. it’s a lot easier to get involved with what you eat than everyone seems to think it is
I SERIOUSLY LOVE UR VIDEOS SO MUCH!!! you keep them simple and only tell the necessary things. it creates the exact feeling of minimalism that you are talking about! right to the point and very inspiring love it !!
Happy New Year 🎊 i need to be more me and less people pleaser. Also, guilt for when I don’t make time to exercise. You hit on a lot of good points....🙋🏻bye Rox
This was such a helpful video! I paused it after every bit of advice and took a moment to think about it and get rid of things that I really don't need/want. I always feel a lot better afterwards. I also just love your channel in general. I only discovered you a few months ago but your videos have already made me more mindful, so, thank you!
Janell, you are such an inspiration. I have been getting rid things all month! Removing the number of things that correlate with the day number of the month. So far 36 things! Tore apart the bathroom cabinet, husbands closet, coat closet and I vowed to stop buying hair products until I either use them up or decide that they don't serve me and throw them away. Where is your long sleeve shirt from? It looks really comfy and well fitted!
Such a helpful and inspiring video! Thank you, Janell ☺ Hoping to make my way towards a more authentic self ("to your own self be true"), less insecurity more gentleness less guilt more hope. You are a soul to be loved. ♥
Good talk 😁 I have many of your tips on my list ! Thanks for the reminders, sometimes you get caught up in life's BS and forget to enjoy your life ! HAPPY NEW YEAR and ❤️this video!
I love these tips and I'm going to try them out! I want to be a better, more positive person this year, but everyone around me is so negative, so it's hard. I wish there were more kind people like you in the world lol.
I was definitely considering getting a car but... it’s just really not necessary. I’ve genuinely stopped caring about keeping up appearances for people and I’m much happier ❤️
I watched one video of yours and I liked it very much so I wanted to subscribe but no I decided to be a minimalist. Now after watching your videos for couple days I ended up subscribing to you. I couldn’t hold my self more, I think saying that is enough to let you know how much your content is GREAT 🌸
Great video! Love that you included both physical items and habits. I've been starting my own minimalism journey and I'm so glad I found your channel about a month ago. I feel like I've learned a lot from you and really relate to your approach & what led you to minimalism. I'm also a child of hoarders, so that video really resonated with me and it was sort of therapeutic to hear your story since I've never had any friends that went through that
I loved this video! My favorite tip is to get rid of anything I didn't use last year. I have two clothes irons, I haven't used either one in at least a decade. And the clothes that I've been holding onto are just ridiculous.
Very well said and I'll be doing my organization soon for my house and I will let go and get rid of all the things no longer needed. Thank you for your honest opinion :-)
I love your videos, especially this video. You help remind me to slow down, and keep myself grounded, especially in this busy world. Thank you for sharing your beautiful honesty, and journey with us. Much love, and good vibes. ❤️
First, your home looks lovely. This year, the husband and I are buying only what we need and on occasion a want for anniversary or birthday that we had our eye on for sometime.
Girl. This was SO GOOD!! I think I might just put it on my list of things to watch every morning. I have just recently been realizing a ton of the things in the 2nd half of this video & hearing you talk about them all gave me so much push to keep addressing them. Thank you!! (Oh, and I totally cracked up about the spontaneous picnic part. 😂 That is so something I would have bought and kept around for my fantasy self...or I guess my fantasy activity/lifestyle!)
You guys. Tell me why I have had a hair blow dryer in my "maybe" box for over two years. I need to get my self together smh
Janell Kristina That’s quite a while haha
Milton M. I wasn’t sure if I would keep it short lol but still
@@JanellKristina hair dryers are great for more than just hair. But if you never use it get rid of it.
because you like the feel of wind in your hair maybe lol
☺️
I love your quote, "it doesn't matter if you're drowning in 2 feet of water or 20. You're still drowning." It's important to realize that sadness happens to people in many different situations and you're allowed to be sad even if others have it worse than you. Suffering Olympics don't help anyone.
Your shirt color looks very nice on you honey. ☺️👍
Yes. Every top she wears looks very nice on her. :)
She does have an amazing figure. She's healthy inside and out. I'm inspired!
Take it one day at time friend, do the test, then the move, then school. You got this and good luck!
Janell Kristina thank you so much!
Bea Alcober god bless you
💛💚💛💚
Wishing you luck and hope ans strength.
“Radically and intimately myself”. I flipping love this. I’m going to put it in my bullet journal as the focus for my bucket list for this year.
Purchase guilt is real 😡
flufftronable yessss I’ve had a top faced pallet since 2016 and it was so hard for me to put it in the trash. It was waaaay expired.
I am starting to realize how much stuff we hold on to. How much society has convinced us we NEED these unscrupulous items in our lives to fit in and be happy. i am a momma to a 3 yr old desert tortoise...he is my baby, I love him, I have hundreds of pictures of him, I am proud of this :)
Be proud thats awesome!
How adorable. I love them -
such peaceful creatures.
That's so cool! Love it :)
Let go of the things you *don't* value so you can embrace the things you *do* value (like baby tortoise pictures!)
'Whether you are drowning in2 ft water or 20 ft you are still drowning' I love that part 🙏🏽 and like always great info ✨💯

Green looks great on You!! Totally your colour. Also awesome video has usual
thank you it's my favorite color, especially the deep forest and emerald :)
Totally! And you fit so well with the plant and background. So natural and calming.

Declutter fear-that’s the energy 2019 needs
Loved this video, Janelle. For one so young, you have the wisdom of the ages!
I don't rock with duvet covers either. My thin yet warm blanket is easy to wash even handwash if need be
Your voice is actually so soothing. Whenever I’m feeling inspired I just play one of your videos and listen to it while I’m decluttering !
I still cringe when I hear my voice so I'm glad! Thank you :)

"Let go of any relationships that's toxic..."
😂😂😂😂💀
About the chairs in the car, I have two little chairs from REI that fit in the area where the spare tire lives so they doesn't take up any space that I would normally use in the trunk. I go camping quite a bit though and it saves me from having to lug the chairs back up to the house. I leave my eno hammock and umbrellas in the spare tire space, as well!
If I get to a point where i need t buy some smaller one are what I'm getting for this reason!
Lovely! Great list 💕
I went to India and I loved it. I went 3 times and loved it each time.
Let the decluttering commence 🙌🏽
I appreciate you making this video and all of your videos. Happy new year.
Your motto is also pretty much mine for the new year: being comfortable being my authentic self :) Best of luck!
I LOVE this video! number +15 with entitlement and gratitude is so very true and. Selfishness versus humility. Love it!
Your videos make me feel calm and give me so much inspiration! 😍 happy new year!
Shopping habit.... would really love to start traveling even alone.... my Blessings are many! Thank you for your video.
been paying attention to you and marie kondo’s work lately and it’s been very helpful to me before my cross-country move and trying to decide what to keep:) another thing you didnt mention here tho is making your own food!!!! the comparison salsa and pasta sauce you showed for a second can easily be perfectly made in 15 minutes each, and i personally feel a lot better knowing exactly what i’m putting into my body rather than a whole bunch of preservatives and unidentifiable chemicals. same with bread, soup, etc. it’s a lot easier to get involved with what you eat than everyone seems to think it is
I absolutely love your channel Janell. Your minimilsm videos have helped me a lot through these past couple of months.
You’re tips and advice are all very helpful and practical! I like how you said examples for each. Thanks for sharing!
this video is exactly what i needed today. thank you.
The contemplation makes me happy, I'm glad you did!
@@JanellKristina Me too. Thanks!
I really appreciate your videos you are so thoughtful. My 2 mantras for this year are~ feeling it all, finding the quiet~ and ~surrender to pleasure~
Wow, surrender to pleasure is so whole I might adopt it
Janell, you are such an inspiration.
Take a picture of some of these sentimental items like ticket stubs for me that's helped so much. LOVE this video it's a reminder to stay on track.
Yay I always get so excited when you post a new video🙌💕 Much love and light to you 💕 P.S. also thats adorable you had emergency picnic supplies😄😊💞
This is so good. I needed this. Thank you for sharing. I will be coming back through out the year to remember my goals for 2019 and my future.
For ticket stubs , taking a picture of them is a good way to keep it without having the physical clutter.
I have started. Wouldn't of done this if i had not seen your videos. Thank you Janell.
My favorite tip was to give up worry, this is something i could really benefit from
I love these tips and I'm going to try them out! I want to be a better, more positive person this year, but everyone around me is so negative, so it's hard. I wish there were more kind people like you in the world lol.
Being positive can be hard and I'm still trying to figure that part out too
I was definitely considering getting a car but... it’s just really not necessary. I’ve genuinely stopped caring about keeping up appearances for people and I’m much happier ❤️
Wish you were my therapist. Just listening to your voice is so calming 💗💗
Ava Bean i still cringe when I hear my own voice so I’m glad thank you!
I watched one video of yours and I liked it very much so I wanted to subscribe but no I decided to be a minimalist.
Now after watching your videos for couple days I ended up subscribing to you. I couldn’t hold my self more, I think saying that is enough to let you know how much your content is GREAT 🌸
Ari Bo thank you!!
Amazing ideas! Thank you for sharing!
You're a magnificent person and so wise.
When I first started watching this I thought you were wearing a party hat 🥳😂 love this one!
Very well said and I'll be doing my organization soon for my house and I will let go and get rid of all the things no longer needed. Thank you for your honest opinion :-)
i took my time writing those list on my journal. i know it will help me visiting those insightful things in the future.
once again, thx Janell ♡
I love your videos, especially this video. You help remind me to slow down, and keep myself grounded, especially in this busy world. Thank you for sharing your beautiful honesty, and journey with us. Much love, and good vibes. ❤️
Beautiful, especially the non-physical ones!
First, your home looks lovely. This year, the husband and I are buying only what we need and on occasion a want for anniversary or birthday that we had our eye on for sometime.
This was really helpful 😊, i'm in the progress of decluttering, its hard to let go of material things. I can't wait to have a better peace of mind
I like your advice and videos. Very inspirational. Keep up the good work.
Such a helpful start to keep growing on our Minimalist journey!! Thanks lovely, I love your channel!!
thank you so much!
You are one cool cat! Thanks for the advice you shared.
Thank you!
