It's definitely possible to be introverted and not shy! I am a very opinionated/self expressive introvert and while most people don't call me "shy" these days, in the past many people did try to tag me as being shy. When in reality I am just a naturally quiet person who will speak her mind when she has something of worth to say to you haha Lovely video as always! ❤️❤️🙏
same, I am also very outspoken when necessary but prefer to keep to myself and am generally very private. I also have that thing where people don't believe I am shy :D
I work in healthcare too and I think of the wastefulness everyday. I understand the necessity due to contamination and whatnot, but it still gets to me.
I am an RN and just found out that our hospital will recycle most non contaminated recyclables (sterile water containers, the plastic that kits come in etc.). It took a little digging and encouragement but I'm happy to know that less stuff is going into the landfill. I don't think our hospital advertises this because it is not profitable for them to recycle. @@JanellKristina
I'm a nurse from the 70s. We autoclaved a lot of our own instruments while I was in school. By the time I graduated, that seemed to have passed and disposable everything was in. We never did reuse needles like they did in the very old days. Just like sterile bandage kits, suture removal trays etc. It's too bad, like in ERs they don't do what they still do in ORs I think. (I've been out for a while. I did get a shot once from a reused autoclaved (no longer sharp) needle with like a Barb on the end. Hurt like hell! Never go back to that clearly! It just didn't all used to be disposable. We would have a large vial of Demerol and use the entire thing. (Rather than one dose ampules which we eventually had as well. Minimalism in medicine is a good topic!)
Yeah, it's a really good conversation! I know there are people working hard in the UK to reduce waste in the NHS. I think that's being driven by a lack of funds as much as other things but it's a net gain at least.
I’m 59 and you’re 24 you could be my daughter, we both have short hair and use glasses 👓. 😅 i enjoy your ideas, very relatable. Started back into yoga 🧘♀️ and enjoying it more this time around. Keep your vids coming and looking forward to your segment on spiritual 📚. Namaste 🙏
Janell, a few months ago I watched a minimilsm video of yours. The very first one I had ever watched about minimilism. Honestly I don't think I even knew about this lifestyle before I saw your videos. Minimilsm has changed my life completely. I absolutely love it and can't imagine going back to the way I use to live. I love your personality, and your videos❤
Hey! :) One way my mother (an RN) has thought to reduce waste at work is to make sure that the patient knows that all of the disposable plastic items, buckets, bandage wraps, and tapes are PAID FOR items which belong to them and which will be thrown away if they don't choose to take them home. She said that some people take what they think they will need, and some people just take everything they can because they feel like they should, since it's paid for. That also seems like a good thing for the patient to know, and many people definitely aren't aware that they can take many of those things home.
I admire nurses so much! The shifts and the work you do... I am a teacher and the wastefulness annoys me in that job area too. So much paper is used all the time and honestly children are just wasteful in general.
Loved this! The question about relationship building after being raised in a toxic home hits right in the heart. I didn't realize I was toxic myself until I realized the my relationships couldn't reach a healthy state due to my habits and lineancy. Oh and we got married bc of tax benefits lol Great video 🤗
Great video...thanks and congrats! I married my high school sweetheart 20 years ago. People assume we have the "perfect" marraige because we've never split and they still remember us as lovesick teenagers. The reality is we have constantly had ups and downs since the very beginning and have worked really hard to remain committed. Even now, we're working on making our marraige better and realigning our expectations. We are given so much misinformation through TV/movies, social media highlight reels, and even well-meaning people in our lives...the key is recognizing that fact and working diligently to make your own way in the real world! Oh, and being a mom is a joy (and a challenge) that simply cannot be explained. I struggled to have my only child, and I thrive on motherhood. I guess it's not for everyone, but if you have a healthy mix of desire, wonderment, and fear...I can attest becoming a mother gives you a kind of superpower that overcomes some of those fears in an instant (and maybe brings another set of fears you never imagined). And your childhood doesn't have to dictate your own parenting...definitely not in a bad way. My parents were not bad at all, but they were VERY different from how I am as a mom. I wonder sometimes why my mom didn't open up the world to me more or pass along more of her wisdom as a woman that was once a girl. She died before I got married so I can only wonder. But know you will make your own way...especially a deep thinker like you that is more attuned to your place and impact on the world. May you be blessed!
I am very distant with my parents, and sometimes I feel bad. However, I do think about all the times they have been toxic. My parents always insult me by calling me dumb and other similar things. They judge me bc of my significant partner not being "handsome enough" which makes me sad that they think that bc my partner and I have a really wonderful relationship. They only treat me as an adult when it comes to financial stuff (them wanting to use my money) but when it comes to having freedom (like going out) i'm just a child and not old enough. (I'm almost 22). i can go on and on.
Hey..Nobody should treat you like that stand up for how you want to be treated. Creat boundaries. Also tell them not to say negative things about your partner.
You're doing a good thing by protecting yourself and your partner through distance. I'm not connected with my parents either... I am very sorry. It hurts :\
This video has made me feel really peaceful. I'm currently 17, a junior in high school, trying to figure out what to do and where to go. You've really made me realize that not everything is as big as a deal as I'm making it, and while I do need to do my best to figure things out, I might not need to stress nearly as much as I currently am. I hope I can keep this peaceful mindset and I thank you for helping me come to see things that way! You're really calming!!
Janell Kristina haha don’t be! I didn’t even get the full anthropology experience because i switched to it halfway through my 3rd year in college LOL. I actually wanted to be a nurse/something in the medical field too but life had other plans for me 😂😅
You’ve given me such an inspiration to declutter my life and I appreciate your videos so much. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there for all of us and sharing a lot of intimate, personal stories. PS I’m in the medical field too and I can totally relate to your stressful work moments as well. Keep being a badass! I’ll be rooting for you!
Hey I love your channel. I was so happy to see your hoarding video (my introduction to your channel) pop up on my feed because it was exactly what I needed to see/hear in that moment. Congrats on 80k! Looking forward to seeing your channel grow even more.
I remember when you were too busy with school to make videos regularly and its so cool to see that you have time now and are able to create and share what you truly want. Congrats dude!!!
Such a beautiful being. Almost 40 something y.o. here and love your content. Thank you. So looking forward to your travel nurse video’s, love. Profuse peace and wellness of mind. Keep moving forward🥰🥰🥰🥰
This is the first video of yours that I've seen. Subscribing now! You are truly genuine. I'm a nurse too and love that you brought to light the amount of waste we see and partake in. Like you, I get the reasoning behind it, but it does make me feel bad. Anyways. Keep being you and inspiring! ✌
I just wanted to tell you that I stumbled upon your channel when you were around 40,000 subscribers. You've inspired me so much to challenge my habits as a consumer and just to reconsider my lifestyle in general. I actually ended up getting rid of 200+ possessions I owned and didn't use and made an exhibit challenging America's consumerist society for a class. I really love the sit-down and real-talk format you have, and overall just how mindful you are about your lifestyle and the content you include in your videos. Keep up the good work, Janell!
Congrats on the 80k! Really good advice and some real talk - I totally dig that you don't sugarcoat things. For ex. the advice on manageable student debt is something that more people should hear, or at least be actively thinking through their planned income vs. the amount of debt they take on.
And growing fast with 81K! Congratulations! I know I've loved watching your videos since the one about getting a hamster and overcoming judgment from others. Really inspiring!
You deserve every single subscriber you have, your videos are so wonderful! I especially loved your stance on sexuality - I personally think that we are never really completely done figuering that out because we are all fluent and growing in a way.
your explanation of why you started nursing really hit home for me. i definitely understand being drawn to negative and painful situations, and working emergency is an amazing idea for that.
Congratulations on 80,000 subscribers!!!! Buying clothing second hand is one way to be economical and reduce fast fashion's impact. You are so mature for 24! I was not NEARLY so together as you when I was your age. ❤️
Proud of you. I'm older and your the age of my daughter. You have a good head on your shoulders and your life/family experience have given you excellent in sight!❤️
YESSSS It is totally possible, almost anywhere you could possibly live. 100% of my clothing and shoes and bags are second hand, and have been for about 4 years, and I still maintain a very current, professional wardrobe. Second-hand is the answer, people!!
acm definitely!! After starting to thrift a couple years ago, my mind can’t seem to comprehend why anyone would want to spend hundreds of dollars on purses, shoes and clothes when you can get the same thing at the thrift store! A tip to remember for me is that A lot of the time I get complements on what I’m wearing and never has anyone knew it came from the thrift store!! Haha
I struggle to get leggings at thrift stores, but I have had some good ones from ebay - and some not so good. From the same shop too. We have some charity shops here that often sell things for £1. We also have a decline in high Street shops and a rise in charity shops which is often a sign of a less well off area, but I think the idea that they are a bad thing really shows how we expect to be able to buy new when we don't need to.
I would love to but no second hand shops where I am are wheelchair accessible and certainly not with accessible changing rooms and never found clothes there that I actually like that fit me. But I haven't bought any in a long time anyway.
I loove your explanation to being able to be involved in a "toxic" situation while being a healthy force to it and yourself. That deep sense of awareness makes living intentionally, even with our scars and fuckups much easier to accept as part of ourselves.
You reached the 80k girl! I hope that this makes your 6 become 5, your 5 become 4 and so on. Just in case you ever doubt it --> if you keep growing and people keep commenting and stuff is because the content you create is valuable! Thanks a lot!
Hi Janell! Fellow nurse here 😊 Congrats on 80K! So happy to have recently subscribed to your channel. I’ve learned so much from you already on minimalism, spirituality, and more and hope to incorporate your tips into my life. Keep it up girl, I look forward to your vids! ⭐️ ✌🏼
You have so much wisdom to offer. Really moving. Needed to hear what you said there are no wrong decisions. Being thrown out of my home and worried about making the wrong choices like it's a life sentence, or this path where you can only go down one fork and there'll never be a do over if you take a wrong turn, you'll be on the wrong path for the rest of my life. Your comment just made me see that. Wow. With the buzzcut and orange shirt and your minimalism you totally look like a Buddhist nun. 😊❤
I agree totally. I am homeless by choice and saving for a home to purchase. Living minimal is awesome also I work in human service (clinician) and living like this is stress less. Keep up the good work J
I am studying social work, and my reasons for being interested in it seem similar to your reason for being interested in nursing. I want to know segments of society that most people distance themselves from or are afraid of, or would consider "bad." I have never heard anyone articulate that before, and I never really tried to explain it to anyone. Thanks for that and everything else!
I really enjoy the peaceful presentation you give with each of your topics. Thanks for sharing such lovely videos about your life and what you have learned.
Hi!! So glad you are posting videos regularly again 💜 thanks for sharing with us how freaking amazing you are. I can relate to connecting to those in the most real moments (like what you shared in the ER). It’s being in the present moment and it is so humbling. We are all human.... it is honorable to work with others when they are at their most vulnerable. Btw - that color is so beautiful on you
Thanks for the video and your general content :) One thing I really like about your videos is how you are chill and calm. I feel like so many youtubers are so obnoxiously hyper enthusiastic (like: "HEEEEEYYYYYY GUUUUUUYYYYS!!!!! Welcome to my CHaaaannnnnnelll!"). To each their own, but that style just really grates on me, and I appreciate that you are just normal and chill. Keep it up, Janell.
I am soooo introverted but I'm not shy at all. In social situations, I am very loud and talkative but I would much rather stay at home than leave my house and sometimes its difficult for me to agree to plans because I get so exhausted from being social. Thank you for agreeing that people like that exist ❤️
Thank you for sharing this. Love your approach on live! And of course 80k (and more!) want to watch your realistic, wise and absolutely authentic videos! Congratulations!
Love love love how you are answering more personal questions! I actually never thought of not being shy even though I'm an introvert. Have a great day too!
Another thing about nursing that is wasteful is the water. It’s probably not bad in he ER but after educating myself about how little fresh water the Earth has left it give me anxiety on the med surg floor. My patients who don’t drink water are always requesting more ice for their water and the other nurses are always dumping out their fresh water and refilling it with “fresh” ice water. Thanks for your minimalist nursing input ✌🏻 I feel you girl
i studied anthropology and got my B.S. and while it was pretty rad, the prospects aren't super duper great- but i do know a few people who were able to make their dream careers happen! most everyone else, myself included, ended up doing something only slightly similar (for me, social work) or something completely unrelated to their degree. my spouse went through grad school for a phd, and i intended on doing the same but seeing all of what he had to go through really put me off of it- so like you, i'm still on the fence about grad school even 7+ years after college. i've really enjoyed watching your videos and your perspective on minimalism, and i'm super excited that other people feel the same- congrats on reaching 80k!!!
Great timing for this video. Also, my aunt's a nurse; a great example of not taking anyone's bullshit and she’s one of the most empathetic people I know.
I'm getting more seasoned at this with time as a nurse and yep. I can hold a lot of space for someone but that's not an excuse to be shit human or treat others horribly
first time watching your video and I’m a subscriber. I believe in the law of universe and everything on this earth is connected if you can connect and understand spiritually. You are great benefit to the world.
Watched an earlier video about minimalism in a studio apt. Noticing my life has taken that course, along with depression & spirituality in mind, I'm happy to say I'm subscribing, Thank You! I look forward to more videos, I dig your energy!
Love how your so REAL, and down to earth! Im a stay at home mom and dont get to socialize alot. But when I was in the work force I was a phlebotomist. I feel like you'd be someone I'd hang out with if I had friends haha and wasn't always surrounded by mini human beings all day :) Thats why I like watching your videos I am into all the things that you make videos about!
For the vegan question, that was the most refreshing answer I've heard from a "non-vegan". I truly did not expect that, I feel like you get it. That's really what it is, doing the best you can with what you have even when it's hard because it doesn't line up with your morals. I've tried to be vegan on and off for 11 years before i found my rhythm, my community, and Black veganism. I'm just trying to do better in every way I can do better, that's all, and the journey is a forever journey for me. I relate to feeling like something like that is a daunting task to take on. I watched a few of your videos before and I loved your personality but that answer sealed it for me honestly, as wimpy as that sounds... I don't subscribe to too many people out here but you bet I hit that subscribe button. You seem very genuine and wanting to do your best in all the ways you can, which is something I admire in others and something I try to foster more in myself all the time ☆
You remind me of the character of Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy, down to the unhealthy relationships and being attracted to “dark & twisty” things lol also what day is your bday? I’m turning 25 in Feb too! So happy for you hitting so many subscribers! Been following since your tumblr days lol, & I’ve always really enjoyed your deep posts and videos! Hope your channel continues to reach more & grow! 🤗
A few days ago I saw a reddit comment mention your name on a thread about fashion. That's when I knew your channel is finally getting the exposure it deserves and I'm so proud of you ❤
Congratulations and all the best to you! You are inspiring, and although I am far older than you are, you have been able to enlightened my eyes and mind to so many things. I have been enjoying watching your videos and learning at the same time. ❤️
I resonate with you soon much on the distance with parents. I just finished a selfcare video that I editing! Congratulations 🎉 on 80K! You are doing so well!

I'm a tad jealous haha, but seriously I feel the same way culture and evolution is fascinating

thank you! I hope so too that would be really nice
Yes, Uncle Iroh!!!! ❤️
I love you because you are a RUclipsr who actually put timestamps below. 😫🥰🥰
Congratulations on the 80k. You're an inspiration. ♥️
I agree totally. I am homeless by choice and saving for a home to purchase. Living minimal is awesome also I work in human service (clinician) and living like this is stress less. Keep up the good work J
Pls never stop uploading💟 it helps me so much
Those same few books you mentioned, have also changed my life. The Alchemist. Is my favorite book of all time! ❤
Congrats!!! In 80k. :) :)
Also. I LOVED the A and B quote about life. Once again....your video has impacted my life. I ❤ u!!
@@Tinygals_Tinylivin the A and B quote helped me a lot too
Same! I read a lot, and The Alchemist is still my all time favorite book!
I love your honesty!
You’re my friend in my head 🤗
Please do more videos soon.
I filmed two today :)
I love the plants in the background. Congrats on the 80k!!
I really enjoy the peaceful presentation you give with each of your topics. Thanks for sharing such lovely videos about your life and what you have learned.
Thanks for being you and sharing who you are! I’m currently working on finding new role models, and you’re definitely one of them!
Wow thank you
Btw - that color is so beautiful on you
Such a beautiful human being. Thank you for sharing with us.
Yeah I would strangle myself if that was me haha
I really appreciate the authenticity. One can relate to the content you share.
Thank you!
I am soooo introverted but I'm not shy at all. In social situations, I am very loud and talkative but I would much rather stay at home than leave my house and sometimes its difficult for me to agree to plans because I get so exhausted from being social. Thank you for agreeing that people like that exist ❤️
This is me too!
Y’all might be social introverts. There’s different types of introverts. It’s complicated. 😁
I treated myself to one of your videos for finishing my chemistry homework
Honestly huge props to you for doing the homework first you're a role model
Please keep making videos! Congratulations !You are at 82k right now. Much love 💕💕🌸🌸
She's gorgeous as hell bruh and her smile is everything.
Yep :(
Your subscribers have exploded! I can’t believe I was one of the earliest. Congratulations!
Right! Sometimes I miss the old smaller community feel we had but it's been mostly amazing and I can't complain
Your thoughts on marriage were pretty much spot on where I’m coming from. 🖤
I’m not sure why or what parts of this I found so comforting but I’m here for it new subscriber alert 😊
i studied anthropology and got my B.S. and while it was pretty rad, the prospects aren't super duper great- but i do know a few people who were able to make their dream careers happen! most everyone else, myself included, ended up doing something only slightly similar (for me, social work) or something completely unrelated to their degree. my spouse went through grad school for a phd, and i intended on doing the same but seeing all of what he had to go through really put me off of it- so like you, i'm still on the fence about grad school even 7+ years after college.
i've really enjoyed watching your videos and your perspective on minimalism, and i'm super excited that other people feel the same- congrats on reaching 80k!!!
That's the main reason I stuck with nursing
Great timing for this video. Also, my aunt's a nurse; a great example of not taking anyone's bullshit and she’s one of the most empathetic people I know.
I'm getting more seasoned at this with time as a nurse and yep. I can hold a lot of space for someone but that's not an excuse to be shit human or treat others horribly
Agree with you 100% on the only way to really help the environment and reduce waste is to not consume things we don’t need in the first place.
Baited!!! J/K. Love your vids! Congrats on 80K. 100K before you know it!
first time watching your video and I’m a subscriber.
So proud of you!!!
Love how your so REAL, and down to earth! Im a stay at home mom and dont get to socialize alot. But when I was in the work force I was a phlebotomist. I feel like you'd be someone I'd hang out with if I had friends haha and wasn't always surrounded by mini human beings all day :) Thats why I like watching your videos I am into all the things that you make videos about!
thank you!
Congrats on 80k!! Love your attitude towards life and your honesty in your videos :)
You seem very genuine and wanting to do your best in all the ways you can, which is something I admire in others and something I try to foster more in myself all the time ☆
congrats on 81K! This is such an awesome channel!
thank you!
I'm 53 and I think your super cool & grounded!!
Now you have 85k subcribers! Greetings from The Netherlands. X
Wow!! Just found you your Awesome babe!! Keep up being you!! 👍
You really inspire me! Thanks for being so open and sharing! ✨🌟✨
Enjoyed this vlog Janell. Your
output was highly informative.
Thanks.
I also feel the same way about my parents, so I am interested in learning about how you distance yourself/protect your mental health.
Your vlogs are a joy to watch I always look forward to your videos 😊
Ahh I'm glad I feel like I'm just rambling sometimes, thank you!
Love from Kenya ❤
