In February I bought a ‘99 F-350 from my Grandpa with 30,000 original miles on it. Your channel has been super helpful with me picking upgrades to help modernize my truck and to make it mine. I’m also a terrible mechanic and watching you do things like your tow mirrors, stereo, and other things have saved me from making a ton of mistakes. Thank you for putting this content out there.
You aren’t a terrible mechanic you just haven’t done it before there’s a first time for everything and you approached this first time very well keep on at it brother
I've been the proud owner of the original 2001 Ford Platinum Edition F250 4x4 Powerstroke 7.3 for the last 22 years. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I hope to take my last ride in it. I call it " Goose". It's beautiful, a bit loud and kind of slow. 🤣
I've actually been meaning to do a video like that for quite a while. The very first video on the channel is not very good haha but is a brief overview of my original setup. I will try to get an updated video sometime soon.
Hey joe it’s Zac I just looked on the internet it said a 2020 6.7 Powerstroke goes for 85,000 off the lot! 30,000 and u have you dream truck is totally worth it I think!!👍🏻👍🏻
I guessed it right but did not comment until the total was said so it doesn't count but yes I hot it right... I don't think you could buy a better truck for 30,000 it's a 7. 3 with low miles and you know what's new and what to expect from what's not been replaced, Givin the history of the long loved 7.3 you could get your money out of it if you sold it as is. The only bad part about owning a 7.3 you are expecting to get alot more use from is the insurance company's will not agree and you basically can't insure the investments you have made as you can't replace it from what they will pay for it if you had a total loss. As long as your driving normal and somewhat safe a fender bender usually is worse on the other car with it.
GOOD INFORMATION.....AND I "ONLY" MISSED MY GUESS BY $12,000.00 BELOW WHAT YOU SPENT.....DON'T FEEL BAD BY WHAT YOU SPENT.....IT IS YOUR TRUCK AND YOU ENJOY IT.....AND NOBODY ELSE NEEDS TO MATTER IN THAT PART.....I WILL BE PUTTING A LOT OF MONEY IN MY TRUCK.....AND I WON'T REGRET IT.....
You spent $30K on an amazing truck that will last you for another 15 years, easy. Super reliable and rock solid, you learned a ton and you can enjoy the hell out of it and say "I did it all myself!" I would say it's a bargain and we only live once. It's also far less $$ than virtually any new truck. Great job on a very satisfying build project.
Nah I wouldn't give you any grief you upgraded it to where you wanted it and made it nice cuz unfortunately I'm probably going to spend more on my 84 than that I paid three grand for it and by the time I get done doing all the upgrades I'm probably going to have about that much or more into it
Thank you for sharing your experience! I expected a higher upgrade amount, but since you did most of the work yourself, you saved a ton of money on labor costs!! From all the research I have done, the 7.3L Diesel is a great engine & highly sought after! Because it is an engine that can be worked on without tons of expensive tools. That being said, I recently purchased a 2002 Ford Excursion with a 7.3L this year. I'm beginning my journey to follow in your footsteps. Mustang my Brother! Stick with Ford! Thank you again! God Bless you, your family & the U.S.A.!
Sweet looking truck! I built a 2000 Dodge 2500 5.9 24 valve Cummins from a rust bucket to a reliable compound turbo p pump tow machine in the past 4 years, and have $40 k in it. Literally rebuilt everything on it, from the rear diff to all upgraded steering. Looking at new trucks @ $80k, and being able to build the truck right how I wanted it, this was the best thing to do!
Great break down video! And now you have a great truck, and 7.3's are such a great motor. Now this one will last for along time! I would like to see the hand controls/ chair arm set up and how it all works. Also you should do a 7.3 show locally in oregon. It would be really cool to meet you in person and talk truck stuff. It would also be cool to see a bunch of 7.3's in one place! Kinda like the obs solutions show but for SD and OBS.
Hey Joe I'm from Australia we stopped getting right hand drive 7.3s in 2005. so any American full sized pick up had to be imported and converted from there on. we still pay 50 to 60k for clean 7.3s. some people are asking more. when they have modifications. and new 6.7 is 160k for us. don't feel too bad 30k for a truck with very similar horsepower to a new one is aweseome. I have been learning so much off your channel. thanks for your help.
I think your RUclips channel is great the 7.3 is a great motor it's a great truck there's a following you're in the right niche I've been watching your videos for about five months now and I really like the way you talk I like the things you talk about I have a 6.0 that's completely built also my wife has a 2007.3 that we're always continually working on what you got was a great price if I offered you 33,000 cash for your truck right now I know that you would not take it because every time you step on the gas it turns the smile on people that have never driven a built diesel motor have no idea of the power and feeling of what that you have built so keep up the good work I like watching your show I just subscribed and I was in a wheelchair in 1997 to 1998 and I had the same hand controls on a Chevy K15 hundred well I really enjoyed your channel keep up the good work I subscribed so I'll be continuing watching all your videos don't feel bad about the money I spent way more and I think you forgot transmission on your build price that adds another 5000$
Dude thank you so much for putting out this video with all links to products you used! Just bought same configuration truck for 14k with 120k miles. Looking forward to watching all your videos! Subscribed!
WHITE DOG DIESEL 6.7 POWERSTROKE Not quite sure what power you are talking about because a built 7.3 will make just as much if not more reliable power as a 6.7 for way cheaper than a new truck. Plus, you’re not breaking the law doing it (even if it’s a stupid law) Then again, I’m also quite partial to the old body styles. Much better looking.
I try not to compare the 7.3 to the 6.7 too much because they are both awesome engines in their own way. My rig does probably put almost the same power to the ground as a stock 6.7 but by no means is the truck anywhere near as nice as a 6.7 rig. Pros and cons on both for sure!
Living On Wheels with respect I disagree you are not pushing 450Hp 1000 Tq with stock fuel aftermarket turbo and injectors You should dyno it I am very interested to see what it would do
Wow that’s a lot of money but you have an awesome truck! You’re right it’s your money & your channel! You & we have learn so much. Those who subscribe have a passion for these trucks. Even though I have a 6.0 there’s a lot of content that crosses over non engine wise. And that’s why I watch & comment on them. Thanks again for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing your next video content!
Alright man list that is not bad plus fuck all of these new trucks they all have major issues be it electrical mechanical emissions related it's all to cost worthy to say yes it was worth it... of I get a fancy touchscreen and heated seats oh cool I got a heads up display screw all of that you got a safe reliable and strong truck that will run and run and run....
That is crazy that im probably going to end up spending a ton on my pickup also! Got mine as a hand me down first truck so it was “free” but im already around 4k ish onto it loving every second of it. Love your videos man i cannot wait to see this channel blow up!
I test drove a 2002 F350 with 7.3 last week (June 7, 2022). It has 260K miles on it. Because of your channel, I decided to buy that truck. My father in law suggested I should keep looking for something with less miles, but I keep being hit by an inflated market, everything i find is so fricking expensive and beyond my budget. With the education I have received from you through your channel, I feel confident enough to bring that old 7.3L home and see what I can make of it. Thank you very much.
33659.00 total cost of truck and parts and upgrades and labors cost. due to i have power strokes and from a 1997 to 1999 and some gas trucks all are some with up grades done but not as much as you have done. not to far from a guest since i seen you open the hood and cab details and not counting hand controls or chair lift that be additional 35 k done but you should get a seat that lowers down to wheel chair so you be safer getting in and out of truck i have seen this in the passed.
I’ve been following your channel for a while now and I like a lot of the mods you have done .I have even learned a few things from your channel and I did a couple of the mods to my truck so far you will have a reliable truck for a long time to come .keep up the great work love the channel
It used to be a good idea to get an older diesel and then modify. Get around the the new bs these trucks have these days. But now people are selling their 200k mile diesels for 20k and that's just ridiculous. Maybe if they are 50k miles or less and in perfect shape but that's rarely the case.
First time watcher, great video, with the cost of trucks with similar capabilities so high right now the 30k doesn't seem like that much. If you are in a salt belt I recommend some type of under coating to be applied annually to protect your investment. Also if you have the chair lift it's not like you can just go drop it in a new truck. A friend of mine is on the new truck schedule and the bolts for the fifth wheel hitch never line up from year to year or from manufacturer. Great video and amazing upgrades. Thanks
I got $17,500 or so in mine with my $13,500 purchase price. I tented the windows, put newer mirrors on it, new headlights and tail lights. 08 badges all around, touchscreen stereo with backup camera, alarm system, new door handles with key lock delete. New 18 inch Mayhem wheels and all terrain tires. That's about it. The motor is mostly stock but did have a TS 6 position chip on it and air bags. I use it to tow a 35 foot 5th wheel. its not a daily driver. When I die I will leave it to my son if it doesn't get totaled or stolen. Oh and I put new 5k lb coil springs on it with new shocks. I also just did the hutch mod and harpooned the gas tank. Your truck is sick! great job. I would love to do more to mine but it really doesn't need it to be honest. Its super great as is.
30k and you get a 7.3 with all the nice stuff on it, and none of the new EPA garbage and bullshit? Score. A 6.6 Duramax 2500 is around 60k, even more if you get the upgrades. What is it missing from the new trucks? Better transmission and a nicer interior? For 30k you could stick a new interior and transmission in it.
Hey Joe, I have made several of the mods to my truck that you have. Just before COVID-19 hit my wife and I were headed south when my 7.3 suffered a catastrophic engine failure. $15000.00 later and two and a half months later to repair issues with the remanufactured ford engine my truck is performing very well. I now have almost 5000 miles on the engine and I am very happy. The Ford remanufactured engine has a two year warranty and I haven’t had to pay any out of pocket costs to do the necessary repairs.
Great job on the Videos. You have awesome truck. Money well spent. I have a rust free 01 f250 7.3 . I bought it in 2013 with 86k . Now 163k. It's mainly used to pull our 5th wheel south for the winter. I've done some mods. But nothing close to what you have done. My big expense was the transmission. I started out with a Diesel site transmission that had to many problems to mention. I repaired the leaks myself . Mostly loose bolts. I ended up making a trip to Arkansas. About $2000 later , Brian at BTS straightened out the mess I'd been arguing with Diesel site for a long time about the problems. Now the transmission works good. Anyway good luck with your truck, something to be proud of.
I have a 1999 F250 that I am replacing the 7.3 on right now with a fresh Blackwater long block and I'm also putting new everything on it like the Adrenaline HPOP, Injectors, all the pumps and so on. I'm already over 10k with just that stuff. I still need to redo the whole interior but the body is pretty straight for the year and I don't have a vehicle payment so I think it's worth it. She just has low compression at 245K so it's time. Keep up the content and I'll keep watching and learning, ty.
I've had 2 12 valve cummins, an 08 cummins, an 07 duramax, and all have been sold and I still have my 02 7.3. Most people act like they are being sponsored by these automobile company's, I just use what's worked best for our business. The 12 valve cummins 5 speed we had was great, but the truck itself was made cheap. The auto 12 valve we had, well the trans went out.. Anyway, you did good imo, less than half the price of a new one, and twice the truck. Great video, Sir. Keep this truck....
Biggest reason I didnt go with a 12 valve second gen was the quality of the truck itself. I love the engine but in these year ranges for truck were by far the toughest made.
Hey man I have a 97 obs and It’s running so rough. I removed my valve covers today and unplugged one by one. And noticed #4 and #5 don’t do anything when unplugged. The other ones cause the truck to surge. I did the buss test and they all passed. But injector number 5 is squirting so much oil and it’s all splashing on the glowplug. The other #4 isn’t squirting at all. What could my issue be ? Also I’m guessing #5 has bad o rings
@@LivingOnWheels thanks man you’re the best !!!! I saw bitterrootdiesel charges $300 to go through the whole injector and so does full force. I’m gonna look into o rings because I notice that #5 isnt squirting though the deflector and instead it’s drowning the glowplug
Thank you for doing the videos, I have a 7.3 Excursion and it’s all stock, and after seeing what have done and what other people say I’m going to make some mods, but probably keep it mostly stock. My goal is mileage and long life. If the other guy got over 700k out of his truck, my goal is 500k. I’m just under 200k now, not dollars just miles.😜 Anyway keep up the good work and I always look forward to your videos.
The cost of knowing your truck better than any other living soul on this planet is steep, however, a price more than worth paying. Anyone who works on their own monster 7.3 can attest to that. Honestly still not bad for a miniature semi lol
That’s a good question. The market on these things is really hot right now. I gotta say that I’m not exactly looking to sell it but everything is for sale for the right price. Are you trying to buy it off of me? If so, hit me up on Instagram or email me.
Labor of love dude, if it makes you happy it’s worth it. Don’t rationalize the price or money spent. Also you made a bunch of great videos for the rest of us to enjoy or learn. That’s priceless.
plus bring an older rig back to life since i lost my newer truck in a head on collision and still recovering from it was a f150 but i do miss the heavy metal bumper and truck pusher in front of the old 1999 makes me feel safer to drive.
@@LivingOnWheels I have rebuilt gas engines. But I would have to upgrade my tool box for this one. I just think it's a steal for this one even with the worn out engine. I know it's going to need a rebuild.
There are some differences but the 7.3 is just a big ass V8. Nothing too complicated and stock rebuild kits aren't too bad. Id say if you've rebuilt a gasser you could do the this.
30+k for a super reliable truck that will last you 1000000 miles. Please tell what kind off truck you can buy today for 30k? This is not wasted money... It's an INVESTMENT!!
Dont forget that's money well spent it's what you want and it's yours that truck will last 15 20 years bud you dont owe nothing that's the best. Keep up the good work bud .🤘
Beautiful truck! Another great and simple upgrade is to change the upper radiator hose to the "2nd alternator hose". It routes up and around the belt so you dont have to pull the hose to change the belt like you would with the current hose 👍
Great Content.
Thankyou
Excellent work and great to see it finished.
Nice ride bro
Great job. its well worth it.because you know what you got.rather have what you got than a new truck any day. NICE TRUCK........
Nice truck, my son just picked up a 00 F350 7.3 we plan on fixing up.

Been looking for a low mile 7.3 for years no luck up here in Canada enjoy this beauty!

I’m also a terrible mechanic and watching you do things like your tow mirrors, stereo, and other things have saved me from making a ton of mistakes. Thank you for putting this content out there.

That is a truck money can't buy I agree it's an investment but it's a beautiful truck definitely enjoy watching when I'm stumped
I have 871,457 on my 2003 F350, original engine and transmission.
I have 704,000 on mine.

I disagree, spending $30k on that rig got you way more of a truck than you could have on a newer truck, love your rig and your content keep it coming.
Can you do a video on hand controls specifically. Whatever rig your running.
I've actually been meaning to do a video like that for quite a while. The very first video on the channel is not very good haha but is a brief overview of my original setup. I will try to get an updated video sometime soon.
Hi, where did you buy the shocks ???
Beautiful f250 !!!
I appreciate it. The shocks on the truck were just Bilsteins ordered online.

What transmission fluid do you use the new mercon 5 or dextron/mercon 3 since they dont sell just mercon anymore
Still cheaper than a brand new truck and with twice the reliability. $30,269 is a steal actually.
With 1/3 the power and a weak transmission it’s a school bus bump truck motor 6.7 powerstroke hands down better once emissions are removed

Glad to hear she seems to be running well now. It always nice hearing about people keeping these old rigs on the road

Good on you man...... if your happy every other thing doesn’t matter. Dam nice rig! Cheers from down under in OZ. 👍
plus purchase price so 52000
Love those big bad trucks! New friend from Gina!!
Great job I enjoyed it thank you thank you thank you
Great job on the Videos.
Sounds like you’re going to have a sweet build man
@@LivingOnWheels I sure hope so.
God bless you my friend you did a fantastic job
Hopefully your better half doesn’t see the end of the video 😀
The better half is the truck right now 😂

Hey man I have a 97 obs and It’s running so rough. I removed my valve covers today and unplugged one by one. And noticed #4 and #5 don’t do anything when unplugged. The other ones cause the truck to surge. I did the buss test and they all passed. But injector number 5 is squirting so much oil and it’s all splashing on the glowplug. The other #4 isn’t squirting at all. What could my issue be ? Also I’m guessing #5 has bad o rings
Hare to say but my guess is either bad injector harness or bad injectors. You could switch the injectors around and see if the symptoms follow.
@@LivingOnWheels thanks man you’re the best !!!! I saw bitterrootdiesel charges $300 to go through the whole injector and so does full force. I’m gonna look into o rings because I notice that #5 isnt squirting though the deflector and instead it’s drowning the glowplug
20k?

When you want to build something it comes with a cost. You enjoyed it, you learned and you had something to show for your time and money.
I’m just under 200k now, not dollars just miles.😜 Anyway keep up the good work and I always look forward to your videos.
my truck is a 2000 and its got 500k miles, MAINTENANCE is key on these things, if you take care of it it will take care of you!
The cost of knowing your truck better than any other living soul on this planet is steep, however, a price more than worth paying. Anyone who works on their own monster 7.3 can attest to that. Honestly still not bad for a miniature semi lol
What do you want for that truck
That’s a good question. The market on these things is really hot right now. I gotta say that I’m not exactly looking to sell it but everything is for sale for the right price. Are you trying to buy it off of me? If so, hit me up on Instagram or email me.

Dude id do the same. Even if I had the money I'd rather build. Bad as truck then buy a stock one and be sitting on 700 a month or more in payments
Labor of love dude, if it makes you happy it’s worth it. Don’t rationalize the price or money spent. Also you made a bunch of great videos for the rest of us to enjoy or learn. That’s priceless.

$30k on a truck that is highly dependable. Compared to what an f150 will cost you nowadays 🙄
plus bring an older rig back to life since i lost my newer truck in a head on collision and still recovering from it was a f150 but i do miss the heavy metal bumper and truck pusher in front of the old 1999 makes me feel safer to drive.
so what your saying is I should buy a 1995 f350 with lots of blow by for 4500 and sink like 15k in there?
Depends on how much work you want to put in
@@LivingOnWheels I have rebuilt gas engines.
14500 is a steal with those miles
At least in my area it was 👌🏻
30+k for a super reliable truck that will last you 1000000 miles.

$30K is what I paid for my 1999 F250 4x4 supercab new! LOL
Still have the door sticker for mine. I should see what it was new
Beautiful truck! Another great and simple upgrade is to change the upper radiator hose to the "2nd alternator hose". It routes up and around the belt so you dont have to pull the hose to change the belt like you would with the current hose 👍
Most important it's pretty much one reliable vehicle that you should be able to get a lot of use out of
and purchase I guessed 15k
