      Many miles now if so? I am considering one with 244,000.

    I couldn't loosen my bottom end, so I used a longer cable and a battery powered drill to spin it, winding it and lubricating it with wd-40 as I first inserted it then withdrew it, repeatedly until it came out of the tube into the actual exhaust. Now the tube is clean. Then I cleaned the rest as you showed. Thanks.

    I bought my F350 recently and it just did not make power. My 7.3 had two dead injectors in the right bank. My 8 cylinder running on 6 got 10 MPG. After 1.5 Full Force injector replacement my truck is getting nearly 12 MPG hauling a 4700 lb. slide in camper. As per other blogs it seems to like 75 MPH better than slower speeds. Joe’s site is awesome.

    My Daddy is in the hospital & it looks pretty bad, but I want to stay optimistic. I rum my Mom's 1997 E350 Club Wagon with a 7.3L PSD. She got a lot different issues, but she runs well. Being a mechanic helps. I've worked on Cat, Detroit, E3 & the old Maxidynes as well as NTC Big Cam Cummins engines & Perkins. I still love the older diesels. If I had a 6V-53T out of the Seagrave Fire Trucks, I'd be running that in my Mom's van, but I'm OK with the 7.3L PSD...so far nothing major...cosmetics mostly. I like the way you problem solved due to your handicap...haven't seen anyone with a handicap running a big pickup, much less 1 with the 7.3L PSD. Good vid.

      Appreciate the comment! I have my pressure sensor right before the lines into my head and monitor that sucker like a hawk! Mine did indeed come preset right about 55. I would be very interested in you keeping me up to date on your system. Mine seems drop pressure a little more than I expected. 1) It tends to drop pressure as it runs longer and as the temperature warms up. 2) It doesn't hold pressure quite as well as I expected under a harder pull. By no means is it drastically dropping pressure. I haven't seen it below 50psi, but this is my first experience with an airdog and so I am not 100% sure hat to expect.

    Thanks for the great video. The original piece should just be replaced with a new one. Also get rid of the intake heater it blocks 60% +or - of the air flowing through the intake. That will also help. But in colder climate then you have to plug in the cold weather plug it’s location is back of the front bumper. Go AIS Sever Duty air filter system it’s great. Last’s 50,000 miles and just knock out the dust every oil change. Before you have to replace it.

    For improvement in MPG replace the Ford relays for PCM and ECM. Good for at least one MPG both city and highway.
    Next 1: take the OEM wastegate colored tubing and throw it in the garbage. 2: tighten the OEM waste gate rod so that it never opens.
    3: done.

    I need your 7.3 wisdom, I have been dealing with some issues this pass weak. So Monday I started up my truck like normal went inside let it warm up, hop in start heading down the hill into town and noticed any time I would slow down to go around turns the rpms would jump up and down and try and stall out. After getting into town no change so I turn around take it back up the hill and begin my research. So any time I would start it after it warmed up the rpm would jump up and down and then die but would fire right back up so everyone was saying CPS is bad so 3 hours later to get that one 10mm bolt out I got it changed with a motor craft grey one. I start the truck no change, so I change the fuel filter and cap no change, changed the map sensor no change, the noticed the ICP had oil when disconnected it changed that and the pig tail, Boom rpm no longer surges and doesn't die when idling or coming to a stop. This is where I'm stuck now every time I turn the key the check engine light is on and start it the check engine light stays on cold or warm for literally 45 ish seconds runs a little rough then turns off and runs perfect. Borrowed my buddy's scanner and says no codes but the engine light is on so not sure what the hell is going on . really don't want to pay $130 an hour at a shop for them to poke around for a few hours and say yea we don't know probably need top take it apart. any ideas?

    Dude (hard to call you bro as I'm 64 yo and "son" just sounds disrespectful), you kinda cracked me up with this one. All the beautiful parts you have thrown at, spending well, a truck you clearly love (I get it, loved my last girl trying to fall in love with her replacement) and you clean out the exhaust back pressure tube ? $40 bucks or so at Riff Raff. I throw all those parts in the "emergency road replacement box" and put new on. The senor is steep though, $80 neighborhood. I have to admit that I had to come back and watch this video a second time. I've had the parts for a while and just put them on. I have the radiator and water pump off, so it was the perfect time. But I couldn't remember why we do this. Ahhh... MPG. Good enough. OK, my current repairs... I need to vent. Found trace amounts of ATF in the coolant. OK, cooler probably leaking. Get underneath and WTF ! Some A-hole has put in a non stock radiator that doesn't even have the trans cooler line fittings ! The lines just go around the radiator and intercooler to the tiny little trans cooler in front ! Sure glad I discovered this BS before stressing the trans. The rest of you know, right, that this trans has a history of overheating problems. A lot of guys bolt up the 6.0 cooler which has more twice the cooling capabilities of the stock 7.3 cooler. The 6.0 cooler is not a direct bolt up but (from what I hear) is an easy custom. I have a new 3 row aluminum radiator arriving tomorrow. Not a Mishimoto, but only $355. 4" stainless exhaust, cold air box and a SCT programmer all sitting waiting for me to get basic functions back to work. Your videos rock Joe. Sorry to all for the novel.

    • @LivingOnWheels
      @LivingOnWheels  2 года назад

      I’m guessing the thing that is leaking is actually the futon sleeve on the line side and not the fitting itself. Those seals are real finicky. To get it off you will probably need to take the alternator mounting bracket to get it out of the way. You can just tilt it forward.

    Thanks. The video was awesome. I have a 2002 F350 Lariat dually that I use to pull my 34 foot (heavy) 5th wheel. It weighs about 12000 (dry weight). My mileage without the 5 th wheel is about 12.7 MPG. When pulling the 5th wheel I get about 12.0 MPG. I usually travel around 65 MPH with or without the trailer. Truck loves the highway at about 70MPH. Is there anything I can do to increase my mileage without spending a 'bucket' of money on the improvement? Thanks again . I enjoy all the videos that I have watched and I am a new subscriber.

      Honestly, 12 with the trailer is pretty good. Without it I’d expect a bit better than that. Getting a tunes on the truck can help out depending on your right foot. Otherwise is just keeping a clean air filter and keeping the rpms down. A fuel additive would probably help too. I run optilube in every tank and it pretty much lays for itself with the slight mpg gain.

    Been watching a lot of your videos. You do a great job at explaining everything in detail. I just upgraded to a KC stage 1 with a deleted pedestal and from what I understand this tube and sensors main job is to help tell the EBPV when to shut and open. But since I no longer have an EBPV I wonder if this is worth doing or not? I've tried to find stuff on the forums but can't find any info on this relating to an EBPV delete. Some people plug their line ends and just leave the sensor in place after the delete pedestal. Just thinking out loud and wondering your thoughts.

      I worked on this on my truck. A crows foot wrench worked great on that lower nut from the top of the engine bay, due to confined space to work in. Also, I have dual alternators which made getting to the other end of the tube a helluva PITA. My tube was not caked up like his was, but I reamed it out anyway with a length of stranded wire attached to a cordless drill like he did and blew it out with compressed air.

    • @LivingOnWheels

      I'm going to still recommend the hydra for the same reason everyone else does. The TS chips and Hydras are essentially the same thing but with one main difference. Once you get tunes on a TS there is no changing or editing without sending the chip back to the tuner. With the hydra a tuner can simply email you a new file and you put it on the chip. Hydra just makes life easier. Also most of the main tuners pretty much only program for the hydra now. Look up 1023 Diesel or Jelibuilt performance.The are probably the two best in the industry.

    I've cleaned my EBPV tube & replaced the sensor several years ago. It's a real PITA to get to it. But once I got the tube out, I used some weedwhacker string and brake cleaner. That part was easy but messy. I really dont see what value the EBPV system has anyway. Is there a way to just delete the darn thing altogether without creating issues or problems?

    • @LivingOnWheels
      @LivingOnWheels  5 лет назад

      Yeah its a little bit of a pain to get too. As for the back pressure valve. That can actually be deleted completely and is actually fairly common to do so. Just delete the old turbo pedestal to get rid of the leaky actuator and get a different exhaust flange to get rid of the valve itself. With the pedestal unplugged it will throw a soft code but nothing serious. You cannot however get rid of the tube and sensor up front. The engine relies on this input to help adjust fueling.

    If I put my cruise control at 2,000 RPM on the highway (approx 68mph), I can sometimes get 24.5 mpg; Louisiana to San Antone. Getting 20mpg highway has never been a problem for me. Its the city driving that kills my mpg economy - approx 15mpg.

    *Superchips chipped on "Towing"

    *Clean out the EBPV tube once a year with brake cleaner & weedwhacker line
    *use Diesel-Kleen once every 3 months
    *keep tires at max recco PSI (mine are at 88PSI)
    *change out the fuel/water sep filter every year or 10,000 miles - whichever is first.
    *I do the SeaFoam Fuel Bowl Treatment once a year to keep the injectors clean.
    *tonneau cover

    Been reading a lot in the comments of problems that are seemingly related and difficult to diagnose now due to making mods on the engine. I tried a computer performance tuning unit myself and although the truck did put out more power, the EGT's were running way too high and codes would spit out under a heavy load on a grade. So, I'd have to keep an eye on the gauge and ease my foot on the accelerator which got old real quick. I just run it stock now and am happy with that. I can floor it without worry and it does what it can do without self-destructing. If I want fast acceleration, I'll go buy one of them new mid-engine Vets. A truck is for pulling and not designed to win races. IMO. With these trucks too, the automatic transmissions are barely adequate to handle the power they make stock. Because of this, I will also back off on the accelerator under heavy load to allow it to shift and then jump back on it again. I've heard of people who go through a couple transmissions on these trucks and other people who never have a problem. The transmission is weak, but if you go easy on it, it will serve you long and fine.
