what a horn player - they're all fantastic of course - Mozart's horn and clarinet pieces, the sweetest, most playful and melodic music I know, wish I could deeply bow to him
It's even funnier how he never wrote hints to the expression you are supposed to use in the music and just expected people to know how to play them. So all of the expression you hear in the music was up to the soloist. Kind of crazy, if you ask me.
Man . Just look how he player Weber Concertino at 14 years old. Of course you can try,but he's God of French horn. He is out of this planet. That's why the chances are not so high, but you can be a good player in orchestra. Solo is hard.

It's always fun to compare a great horn player like Radek Baborák to Dennis Brain on the same piece. Dennis Brain's interpretation of this piece is often rather light, even playful, compared to anyone else I have heard.
@frostks Nope. There's a video of him when he used to play co-principle with Berlin where he chips a note on Wager tube. Which doesn't count. So no. He doesn't miss. Ever.
Sol la / G trill is not that hard ,cause it's in 1st octave. You need to practice every day ,but not many minutes. 15- 20 minutes a day of lip trills are enough. It's time to play lip trills.
my teacher taught me to start on b horn 1,2 then go down to f-horn 0 then f-horn 1,2 up, down, up, down (thats the best way to work in my opinion) you should try it
Pitch is changed by changing the embouchure and the mouth cavity. I think this is different than a woodwind where they just have to press a key and change their air speed but I'm not confident on that because I'm a horn player. The hand is in the bell because the horn is naturally very sharp so the hand flattens the horn. There are actually four valves on this horn and they cover the horn chromatically so there is no need for more valves or keys
@@jakenowell5211 wait, so the valves are for tuning, sort of? That makes sense. As a violinist I simply could not comprehend the concept of not using your fingers to play, lol. Thanks for explaining!
@@seven-teabags You've almost got it. Long ago the natural horn was a thing and looked like this 📯. These could only play the notes in the harmonic series. In the key of C, those notes would be C E G Bflat C D E F and the intervals get smaller and smaller from there. When they added valves, the horn was able to make all of the notes in the chromatic scale. To make those notes, your lips would change from tense (high notes) to loose (low notes). If you were to play a C (no keys are pressed) and wanted to go to a B ( 2nd valve) your lips and the fingering would change. Hand placement in the bell is for tuning, but isn't utilized all the time. There are slides that you can pull out or push in to make the individual note sharper or flatter. Tuning can also be done with your lips, where you can change the position of your lips and mouth to make the note sharper or flatter. Sorry that was a lot of information, but I hope that clears some things up
@@jakenowell5211 now I'm just more confused lol. So just by using your lips you can make a harmonic scale, and then the valves are used to include the chromatic notes? So the lip position isn't a "can make any pitch happen" thing, like the finger placement on the violin strings? That doesn't sound legit, I feel like I'm not getting something right. And the hand inside the horn is also sometimes used for changing the pitch...? Why is that necessary, if you can already use both the valves and the lips? Ahh, am I dumb or are horns just that weird?
@@seven-teabags nah your right horns are very weird and inconsistent. Your right about the harmonics. When you buzz through the horn, there are 'slots' that the sound and the air fall into. These slots will depend on what keys your holding down. When I press a key, it allows air to flow through a certain length of tubing on the horn. Different fingerings will produce a different pitch and harmonic series. It's kinda of a hard thing to explain but just know that when you buzz some notes will not be possible on that fingering. I don't know a whole lot about the hand, but I can tell you some stuff. The hand was used on natural horns to change the pitch, but it would create a nasally and brassy pitch. Look up 'stopped horn' if you want to see what it sounds like. The hand today is used because the horn is naturally sharp and could be used as a quick tuning fix when your in rehearsal or concert (although the professionals are good enough to not need that). If your wondering 'Why does the hand need to be in the horn when you could just tune all of the notes with the slides?' I have an answer (maybe, I'm not entirely sure): some notes on some brands of horns are out of tune and the tuning slides can fix that. However if you were to take the hand out, everything would be out of tune again because the horn would be sharper, but some notes are affected more than the other ones. (I'm less sure about this part so take it with a grain of salt)
Fast, controlled, and pressurized air, small aperture with the embouchure, and a forward tongue can all be used to stabilize the high register like Baborak does.
Have any of you actually played this instrument? For those who have: sometimes the conductor makes you feel like you're putting your hand in an asshole and playing Born on the Bayou.
I hate to say this but there's a number of articulations I don't agree with. The runs feel a litte too 'spitty' short for my taste. Be it either style or just what gets tongued and/or slurred. But that's nitpicking at this point. Still a very fantastic performance.
He makes playing the horn look so easy...
I so agree with you, that's what makes him so impressive.
Once you develop the chops the rest is easy.

Clearly Mozart loved the French Horn. His horn concertos are spiced with lovely little riffs. @3:02
It's AMAZING how Mozart always found JUST THE RIGHT KIND OF FEEL for any given piece he wrote. IMHO the most genius of the most geniuses... :)

Amazing horn playing. So beautiful
Very fine player. Beautiful tone and superbly expressive.
The way he plays is astonishing his tone is so bright and the trills are spectacular. What is the tempo?
Ben Dela allegro around 120bpm
Around 120 BPM is the tempo for the first movement of Mozart’s Horn Concerto no. 2 in Eb.
Oh god this man is amazing!! I hope I could be a good as him one day!!!
