I really like the sound of the Alpine. For the price they are awesome and I think they are the most worth for money out of all these bang for buck speakers.
Yo! The BLAMs knocked it out of the park! The Lows hit hard (enough to skip the need for a sub for some people). The Mids were clean and accurate (less nasally than the other two). The Highs sounded clean and warm without the overemphasis or harshness. Overall, i would definitely spend the extra money to hear true high fidelity reproduction in my vehicle! BLAM is now officially on my radar!
I've heard this on headphones, my vehicles stock sound system and my high end home theater! Overall IMHO the Memphis sounded fuller in both categories, somewhat neutral on both highs and lows, the Alpines sounded less full, but cleaner in the highs and vocals, the BLAM had the best bass punch and higher fidelity highs, but felt like the bass interfered with the quality of the vocals a bit. At the end of the day they can all be fine tuned, depending on the head unit/amplifier. Every ear is different, can't go wrong with either choice! Thanks for the comparison!
Nice. I’m glad you were able to hear the differences between them. And yes what your describing is how they sounded up close and personal. Thanks for the comments but your total correct you can tune them to change the frequencies but not the sound quality but you hit it right on the head EVERY EAR IS DIFFERENT. Thanks for the comment !!
i totally agree. I think the BLAMs would be complemented well by a 2.5-4" mid range. But over all I had a hard time telling the difference in the Memphis and the BLAM. Only thing I could pick up on was better bass on the BLAM.
Gotta say, those BLAM sound fantastic! I was putting them down due to price but man they sound great! Those were the most clear and accurate of the 3, alpine following behind closely but the blam sound more clear and balanced, I like the punch and clarity from the blam. The Memphis really left some on the table for me. Every time the video switched to them it just sounded too high and not clear on the voice or mids
Those BLAMS sound fantastic. The seperation in the frequency spectrum is fantastic and very well balanced. The other two sounded more like a wall of sound
These speakers deliver an incredible sound experience with clear and detailed highs, rich bass, and smooth mids. The Alpine R-S65C.2 stands out for its accurate and nuanced sound, while the Memphis PRX-60C offers a warm and inviting tone. The BLAM S165.80+ brings it all together with its powerful and efficient design. Highly recommended for any audio enthusiast!
At 10:31 on the third take of the first song, you can tell that either the volume was turned up or the microphone was moved closer to the blam speaker, listed to this video atleast 6 times, I'm using LG-1120 neck ear buds. Thanks for the great video
I would use the Memphis with stock power or low wattage amp. They sound fuller but don’t seem like they can get that loud. The alpines sound like they can get loud and clear but missing some midrange. I have the type r tweeters and they get loud and clear. The Blam speakers sound good to me they have that strong mid bass and detail highs. They do sound softer and seemed like they can get loud and clear.
Alpine's distorted a bit, sound like the tweeter is crossed to low or the mid/bass has break-up issues in the upper mid register. Thier overall sound is the best, followed by the Memphis. WHile the BLAM clearly have the most accurate midrang and bass production, the tweeter is poorly matched and absolutley neutered, dull sounding. Keep in mind too, smaller dome, wider dispersion, something you may want for staging in a small environment like a car. I would say for rear fill yes, not so much up front unless they have to be mounted high in the door. I prefer 1" to 1.1/8" tweeters up front in the A pillar. At this price I would go with Focal, better yet Morel, hands down.
Nice use of the soundboard to compare these 3. To my ears I liked the sound of the Alpine the best. The BLAM was a bit muted overall. Memphis was laking on mid bass. thanks for the video! I have a set of Focal Reference components from several years back I need to re-install in my car!!
Love the detailed videos, doing a great job! I was wondering if you could do a video similar to the coaxial $100 or less but for component speakers? I'm looking to spend $100-$150 on component speakers.
I had an installer tell me once that when it comes to speakers, they all get loud, some just do it better than others. That's helped to kinda keep me "grounded", (no pun intended). But I've found myself on, "mythical quests" fire amazing speaker components and amplifiers. I bought 6 pairs of 6x9's and 2 amplifiers for my motorcycle in the past 6 months or so.
Overall they all sound good! Yes u can tell each has their distinct sound. I really thought Memphis would sound better than alpine. Love the bass on the alpine and blam but we usually use our components for mids and highs. I said dam 700 that's baller status lol 🔥
A lot of people with think the BLAM sounds muted, but that is in comparison to the other two REALLY bright speakers. With the second song (real music), the BLAM sounded much warmer... It's all just personal preference anyway. In my Jeep, I just want volume that can cut through the wind noise when the top is down (Alpine)... In my Lexus, I want a warm, realistic sound (BLAM) since it is road noise is minimal... I wish Burmester made car audio for cars other than Porsche & Mercedes!!
I like your take on them. Just my opinion... At times yes the Blam does sound laid back and muted, but the bass is there. The Memphis sounds nice clear and crisp, but at times a little too much highs and the Alpine is similar to the Memphis in my opinion, but a little tamer. I wish the Blam had more high end and vocals and they would be high on my list. For the price I think I'd pass on them vs the other two, but the nice bass is there. The volume seemed like they turned it up on the Blam on the first song at the end which made it sound better at that moment.
This is the way I see it. For the price of the Alpine I can get 2 sets of the Memphis Audio. For the price of Blam, I can get 2 Alpine or 4 sets of Memphis Audio. BTW, they all sounded excellent through my Orion XTR components lol
Damm Memphis sounds great but I knew they are not going to last as long as the alpine. That's why I would go with the alpine. Blam sound to stiff for my taste.
Nice sound from BLAM. Can not enter the page from Sweden, i will for sure order products. Running today Infinity and Alpine CDA-9855R, love the sound, clear and crisp, looking for the same type of quality sound but with some more " punch "..
I'm looking at 2 pairs of the Alpine Type Rs with no sub and the 450 Power Pack amp as an improvement to my 20 year old Mustang factory system. Am I crazy? Want no sub for simplicity, been down that road before.
Used to listening to morel virtus 3 ways with audison amps and dsp. To my ears (everyone is different) the Memphis was a touch too bright on the tweets and mid lacking. Alpine tweet sounded decent to me not great but decent. Mid was lacking. Blam the tweet was very dull, vocals OK, mid was best by far out of those 3
Listened this through my 300w 8 powered speakers the blam definitely felt worth the price premium over the other 2 but personally unless I'm redoing an expensive old school luxury car or something I'd probably just go with the Memphis because I don't think the Alpine were worth the premium over them
Thanks for the comment! Glad you were able to hear the differences. We tried several different method until we found a way to tell the difference between them. Great points on the speakers!
I've been looking for speakers.. slot of car audio places are trying to put my on these Type-R or the infinity kappas.. what would you prefer? I have a 2013 es350 with 12'w6 ported
Anyone have an opinion on how these 3 selections compare to the somewhat newly entered Sony mobile ES components? I grew up slightly after the peak of the golden Sony ES days and still have 2 XM-2100G amps. I used one of them for a pair of Sony XS-L1090P5 10" subs with dual magnets mostly for SQ with decent results. I guess in that sense im somewhat old school, and some habbits die hard, so I wouldnt mind giving them another chance if they do actually sound really nice. Again, not looking for max spl as I already have tinnitus for some obvious (and other not so obvious) reasons, just an overall smooth and pleasant sound.
Alpine x series and audiofrogs are amazing...focals are amazing but no bass, morel tempo are pretty good too. It's hard to find any 2 way component or coaxial to have midrange....you literally need that midrange in a 3 way component..... audiofrog has highs, lows AND mids and that's in coaxials!!! That's crazy!!amazing speakers!!!
Also hip hop, jazz, and especially orchestrated music are the worst to check the quality of speakers........however rock music you can because of the distortion in that genre...I can easily tell with rock music how good the speakers are, but specific songs more than others.
If Alpine & Blam had a baby what brand would it be? Alpine is for me... Blam is smooth depending on the type of music you listen to. Majority of the time I listen to Rap & R&B so for me Alpine. Although I think for R&B the Blam might win. So something that would combine the two would win in my book.
The alpine is silk I believe. I don't know about the Memphis, but they sounded bright with the ghetto rap. The can't compete with the excellent smooth rap of the 90s
Wish the sq speakers could be designed to take higher wattage no high end speakers in the sq market take more than about 100rms but my jl audio hd600 can do clean 150 rms still haven't found a set that can sustain the 150 rms without eventually frying and I've had alpine type r , kicker ks and kicker qs which were a beautiful speaker with a crossover like a brick . I've fried them all with the gains set properly using a 0db track from JL and my kenwood DMX9720XDS set the 3/4 volume so 30 out of 40 as JL tell you to do (they are probably accounting for most head units introducing distortion past 30 but not one kenwood dmx line I've seen or used does) this one has 5v pre outs that also don't distort at full tilt I'm not sure what the overlap would be but probably 5db at a rough guess but I zero out all my music tracks with active replay gain set to zero on poweramp android and all my music has the replay gain meta data. The thing you find most with sq designed speakers is a more warm tone with less mid range screech and better base response generally from a much bigger voice coil and excursion ability even with 1200w of subs doing most of the hard lifting and the speakers crossed over around 100 Hz because car doors are never going to get much below that even with good sound treatment in my experience unless they are sealed doors from the factory (love a car that has solid doors and no crappy plastic vapor barrier) not even sound treatment can compete with that stock. And I'm I the only one who at head unit only low volumes think some of the factory speakers actually do a better job at bass in those infinite baffel type car doors? Well I'm convinced they do even if the rest of the sound is crap and lacking clarity. Takes a lot of sound deadening with any upgrade to get close to factory base response with some oem speakers . Love the BLAMS sound signature, hate the price it's not justified no matter what they are made of or the fact they are aimed at wealthy snobs. My stereo is worth more than my car about 6k although I've spent probably 8 total on going through different speakers. I need the perfect mix of SPL and sq and haven't found it yet. Kicker KS and alpine type r are the closest I've come! Suggestions welcome. Had thought about some jl c3 convertible coax/components but even their Powe rating and their more expensive siblings are rated to handle their own brand amps output lol. I also like the idea of coax front and rear less of axis cancellation but I still like a tweeter up top too. Sorry for such a long post but any suggestions would be great !😊
I bought 2 sets of the Alpines about 10 years ago, installed them, but I stopped driving the vehicle. I'm trying to get back into car audio and I had an amp in mind. They are 2ohm and I need to find one asap. Btw, I decided to skip a head unit, and can't remember why. I have a bluetooth module that i planned to go straight to the (nonexistent) amp. Am I overlooking something? Do I need a head unit?
One doubt... The Blam 2-way kit (S165.80+) seems to me to be the most sophisticated among the three kits tested. Is it best suited for those who like listening to Classical Music, Instrumental Music, Acoustic Music and Jazz? Or does this Blam kit also play other musical styles/genres such as Electronic, Industrial, Synthpop, EBM well?
When I saw the Memphis had a poly cone tweeter, I was out on that one. Then I saw the deals and realized how bright the tweeter was above like 8k or 10k but kinda sounded muddy elsewhere. But listening to that BLAM, it sounds nice and flat on tweeter response blending with the mid, and I even picked up some notes that couldn't be heard through the Memphis tweeters that the BLAM really picked up on and the Alpines let you know they were there but not as audible. This BLAM look nice, but I'd like to see them reproduce those same Sq qualities at a higher rms power rating like 85-100 rms
have a dilemma about s-s65c The installer recommended me in the store to install this model with s65 for rear doors... I told him that I don't intend to put an amplifier in the car.. he said that it is fine even without an amplifier.. I read that component speakers without amplification do not use all the power nor do they produce sound in an orderly manner Would it be correct to put without an amplifier or is it better to take speakers for 4 doors without a component I must point out that now the car is equipped with 7 speakers that came with the Buick lacrosse car There is also a center speaker And another question, is it worth replacing the chin if I replace all the speakers Thank you
Hi, thank you for the awesome video! Nice to see some original content! Teaches me a lot! I have a newbie question, i hope you don’t mind? I have the Alpine R Spec speakers that do 100w RMS. I have the Halo9 head unit 18w RMS Output. I only have the alpine 45w RMS Amp. Can I safely turn the gain right up to max on the amp?
I wouldn’t recommend that. Best way to tune an amp is with a scope or distortion detector. But if that’s not available to you then I’d just set the amp a 3/4… not recommended but better than all the way up
the Balm are the most well rounded to me. The Memphis sound great for the price point. The Alpine crispiness is heard immediately. what the name of that second song by the way?
How do I find the most vocal/mid bass based speakers? I went with jl C3s and hate them lol, too harsh and crappy vocals despite the $530 price tag :/ What speakers have the best vocals and mid bass with the least aggressive tweeter?
Hi, can you please make some videos on the basis of warm, neutral, and bright sounding different sets of component speakers? Good, better, best from each type.
Another really great review of some nice speakers. And the sound comparisons are super helpful. You also did an excellent review of the Hertz MPK 165.3 Pro . How do you think those Hertz and these BLAM speakers would compare? Thank you!
At 3:35, a few more brands that could conceivably been included: B.2, Arc Audio, Hybrid Audio (But for 1/4 of the price, I'll be fine with my Polk's... 😅)

Those BLAM speakers are phenomenal, vocals are deep and the highs aren’t harsh. Heck yeah
Call me crazy but I like the sound of the Memphis audio components the best out of the three
It's all subjective but to me, the Memphis was a distant third place. I was surprised by that, I usually like their speakers and subs a lot.
I was thinking the same thing. Idk why I thought the Memphis sound better
No no my friend you are not because that is my opinion too
I really like to Memphis especially for the price

Sorry for such a long post but any suggestions would be great !😊
For me Memphis sounds really good 👍
The Alpine type R sets from overseas are the bad boys. So are the DD linear
In terms of loudness, can these be compared to a loudspeaker?
Great question! All well recorded music will work well on the BLAM speakers. Those genres do well with the signatures.
Blam Signature the best to me!
We think so too!!
Those Blams are really growing on me. How do they compare to the Audison voce'? That's what I have in my door right now
When I saw the Memphis had a poly cone tweeter, I was out on that one.
Could you not mix and match these for the best sound possible? Like the alpine and the blam?
have a dilemma about
s-s65c
The installer recommended me in the store to install this model with s65 for rear doors... I told him that I don't intend to put an amplifier in the car.. he said that it is fine even without an amplifier.. I read that component speakers without amplification do not use all the power nor do they produce sound in an orderly manner Would it be correct to put without an amplifier or is it better to take speakers for 4 doors without a component I must point out that now the car is equipped with 7 speakers that came with the Buick lacrosse car There is also a center speaker And another question, is it worth replacing the chin if I replace all the speakers
Thank you
Would love to see you do a review on the B2 components
It all depends how and where you install them, and what amp and tuning possibilities.
But if that’s not available to you then I’d just set the amp a 3/4… not recommended but better than all the way up
Blams we’re clean. Memphis was a lil scratchy and less smooth. Alpines were right where I need them at! My price point and my quality level
Might be a silly question but do I need an amplifier to connect to alpines? If so any suggestions on which I should go with
Will pushing the Alpine R series with 50 watts get its optimal sound? Most amps don't push over 50w RMS on 4 channels.
Memphis sounds cleaner
Does anyone know if the Memphis speakers are better than the jl c1 . I cant decided which ones i should get. They are going in a 1986 gmc jimmy
Is JL audio good
Alpine sounds the cleanest
Wow!those "Memphis"are awesome😲👍❗
We sell tons of those speakers and we constantly sell out
Memphis is my all time second choice
I was thinking the same but it’s not producing as much mid bass like the other two are
I wish you guys they sell tweeters separate for alpine r s65c.2. 1 broke and i can't find it
the Balm are the most well rounded to me. The Memphis sound great for the price point. The Alpine crispiness is heard immediately. what the name of that second song by the way?
Very nice explanation! Thanks for your point of view. The 2nd song is called Jack of Speed by Steely Dan. Thanks for the comment!
Wow!!! Loved it.
How do I find the most vocal/mid bass based speakers? I went with jl C3s and hate them lol, too harsh and crappy vocals despite the $530 price tag :/
What speakers have the best vocals and mid bass with the least aggressive tweeter?
I seen this guy before somewhere, do you own a speaker shop in Milwaukee?
Naw we’re in California
Hi, can you please make some videos on the basis of warm, neutral, and bright sounding different sets of component speakers? Good, better, best from each type.
any suggestion of best speakers for heavy metal & edm?
What I’m wondering as well. The two genres I listen to the most
Are there any similar speakers to the Alpine?
You guys should do a 6x9 best sound power db test
What would a be set that are comparable to the discontinued boston acoustic pro60se?
Another really great review of some nice speakers. And the sound comparisons are super helpful. You also did an excellent review of the Hertz MPK 165.3 Pro . How do you think those Hertz and these BLAM speakers would compare? Thank you!
At 3:35, a few more brands that could conceivably been included:
B.2, Arc Audio, Hybrid Audio
(But for 1/4 of the price, I'll be fine with my Polk's... 😅)
Alpine for the win
Alpine vs helix vs jl audio which are good bro under 20k budget component coaxial??
If they only go 135dB how are they going to keep up with my subs? I commute at about 142DB.
Question: what if my backdoors have only 13cm speaker hole is there any way to improve them to 16cm ?
most people delete the back door speakers or just throw anything in there since you shouldn't even hear them from the front seats
@@mcf3778 yes I even almost though they arent working till I focused back door speakers area from audio options. İt is not worth to make it workshop inner of the back doors for improve them to 16cm. Only vw cars have the same size with front door as I know.
@@fatihorkunss its not worth it... just replace them with stock size and less than half the budget you set aside for the fronts.... i have always made wood plates and used either 5.25 or 6.5 round one way pro audio drivers around $20 each
@@mcf3778 I already replaced with alpine s50 back doors 13cm and 16 cm alpine G series 16.5cm because. I have to do stock ones were torn apart and rusty. I have made insulation to 4 doors when I added new speakers and with new carplay devices.(grundig gx 3800)
JL Audio son. best of everything car audio
I’m curious what the alpine type x sound like
How good was the bass on the memphis audio?
Do have any video on hi to low converters?
I would like to see how these pair with the infinity kappas
Those BLAM sound sick
BLAM has such a big phat midrange response. Many my sister really likes this style of response.
