  • How to install component speakers in a WRX and STI (or any other car for that matter). This video is part of a video series on the complete overhaul of the base sound system in my 2020 STI. Why? The sound is terrible, has no bass, and really is just an embarrassment to the car. I install the Alpine R-S65C.2 speakers. I go over setting up both the tweeters and woofers.
    Products Discussed in this Video:
    Alpine Speakers(R-S65C.2) COMPONENTS→ amzn.to/2JbkUZW
    Alpine Speakers (R-S65.2) COAXIALS→ amzn.to/2Ub1NWq
Tweeter mounting adapter→ amzn.to/2Ub2QWm Make sure to get the right size cutout!
    Tweeter cable adapters→ amzn.to/2UaFe41
    Foam Tape→ amzn.to/2XnGtMw
    Metra 82-8901 Speaker Adapters→ amzn.to/2EPbSAg
    Speaker Wire Adapter→ amzn.to/2WGldEK
    Roadkill Speaker Ring Kit→ amzn.to/2Wcpuv5
Soundskins Pro (single roll) → amzn.to/2UZmgia
Tools I Ended Up Using: Soldering Iron, Electrical Tape, Heat Shrink Tubing, Wire Strippers/Cutters, Phillips Screwdriver, Diagonal Cutters, Small Pliers, Scissors, Drill/Index

I am doing my 2nd installation in a Subaru, I had to figure the math permutations to get the correct back up camera wiring from that plug on my 2019 impreza ( I had not seen your videos at that time) I had to get a left front door speaker bracket for my 2020 wrx (82-8901) from metra. I like how you routed the power wire behind left front wheel. I used a boom mat over nvx sound damping in the doors , nvx in floor. focal integration iss 165 components in front - I mounted the horn shaped tweeter on top of grill, each aimed at a point between the front seats, I liked they're crossovers, and crutchfield had them on sale (good service) kenwood coax -rear doors, 4 ch amp and p.a. capacitor under passenger seat, powered subwoofer under driver seat. I like your videos.

I have the kicker tweeters with stock door speakers powered by the ktp-445u right now and it sounds decent, main problem is my doors rattling like crazy with the added power of the alpine amp.

    Hello,
Thank you for this video, very useful for those who want to install these beautiful speakers.
I installed the same ones in my Honda CRV 2016 with the DSP- Alpine PDP E802DSP- amplifier (available in Europe). I want to install the tweeters for these speakers without using the supplied crossovers, I want to use the active DSP crossovers.
----- My question is, what frequencies do I need to apply to set the high pass filter for the tweeter and also the high and low pass filters for the speaker? (if it’s needed) ----.
frankly, I haven't found this information anywhere, everything that the manufacturer's website gives as information is that the Alpine component speaker R-S65C.2 has a frequency response from 60Hz to 40Khz.

i have a kenwood ddx396 in both cars , i especially like the easy way to turn off the display for my night driving. i have the subwoofer remote in the little bay area in front of shifter , so i can easily tweek the bass. i didn't run speaker wires through the doors this time , Subaru had to change the wiring colors on the rear doors - right inside the frame the doors hinge onto - pop out the tab holding the harness and you can better access it. i solder my connections - except for 2 with connectors, at the radio, to make that install easier.

What options would I have if the mounting height of the speaker is slightly larger than the mounting height of the door in the car? According to crutch field the speaker is 0.482 and my door 0.379, so about 1/10th of an inch. Would be a shame if I had to choose a different speaker, because of 1/10th of on inch.

Thanks for sharing. I find it odd they don’t even mention in the instructions that your putting a 2 ohm load on the amp with you hook both the tweeter and mid bass in parallel. That amps is rated for 4ohms. Am I missing something? If you were running them active it would be 4 Ohms each.
How do you like these speakers. Kicker has a component kicker 48kss269 now with 2.75” and 6 x 9. I always have the issue with these setups where the mid bass is far from tweeter. Door/dash setup where the vocals done Blend very well because of distance causing all the the harsh highs bouncing off windshield.

Anyways I saw on the packaging that it says “if another set of tweeters are already installed parallel to the speakers already that it could cause a fault” is it safe to instal coaxial speaker in the front? Or should we just use component speakers instead?

From my understanding- im going to be bypassing the original tweeter wire and hooking the crossover into the 6.5 line since the crossover has a line in for both the 6.5 and tweeter.
As for the location of the crossovers, maybe tucked inside the doors would be the simplest way. Running them all the way to the passenger seat is also an option, and suggestions?

Great video. Earned a sub. QQ... You are putting more power to the speakers than OEM. Why did you not run new speaker wire of a lower AWG to compensate for the added power? I've done a few head/speaker installations and noticed you are using stock speaker wire and was curious. Granted...it's a PITA to run new speaker wire, but stock OEM wire is pretty light.

    • @richardtrowell8812
      @richardtrowell8812 Год назад

@@carbonoxx If it's an amplified signal it generates more heat and the output signal would be cleaner and better through a larger wire. Distance is one factor for wire size but power going through the wire is just as important for deciding whether to change the wire or not. OEM wire was never intended to run that kind of power through it and could melt or short out destroying components.

what year/trim WRX? My '19 base 6.5 Starlink has too much bass and I've got the EQ set to "-7". Even then it still sounds muddy and over-boosted. Sadly new speakers (even the kicker upgrades) won't help as the issue is programmed into the headunit so any speakers put in will suffer a similar fate.

@@thedjrush... Yes, an active dsp is one solution or 150hz 1st order high pass filters (Crutchfield) are another. Brand new 2019 car; how hard is it to make audio sound good? My 04 GTI's Monsoon system wasn't perfect, but it was loads better than the "junk" Subaru offers in the base and premium trims. Not to mention the amount of sound deadner/blocker needed to quell the road noise.
I know Subaru has a long standing history of bad audio setups, but radios and audio aren't a new thing either. They loaded the infotainment with heavy bass at low volume to "cheat" the listener...same reason the wrx/Sti only come with uhp summer tires; to cheat/fudge during magazine reviews/testing to give higher numbers and minimize the (inherent) understeer that is present.
