I've always thought Speakers we're designed to be in an enclosure which makes a HUGE difference in the way they sound and preform, this is the kind of test I've seen a couple times at the local Flee Market... 🤦 ,, No Hate , respect the effort & hustle ✊
True, although for purposes of a video if you test all of them in the exact same environment, with the same music one after the other, then your ear can determine a preference and allow you to rank the best from top to bottom.
no, all car speakers should be designed for infinite baffle aka your car door which is anything but a speaker enclosure unless you do extensive deadening, mass loaded vinyl and recreating factory seals ETC... and even then its just a large leaky sealed box at best. It would still be disingenuous for him to test it in a box because 99% of people will be using these speakers for replacement in the doors or rear deck. Only people who would benefit from a sealed enclosure test would be people who build Bluetooth speakers. Just clearing up some misconceptions here.
In case anyone is still telling him to put them in a box. He KNOWS the bass will improve. But what he, and the rest of us wanna know is which one produces the clearer highs. And even without the box it's easy to tell which ones got more bass. A good box won't fix a bad speaker.
You can't tell anything free air,, all you know that way is that they work. If you want to know how they're going to sound you have to mount them somehow as realistically as you can to even get a fair idea of what's going on. Even with the tweeters or the mids you've got beaming you've got diffraction, you've got a lot of things going on you're never going to have a real idea of how they sound until you get them in a real environment.
I took the alpines out and got the kicker components. Mids have pretty much the same bass in the door but the tweeters seem better to me than they were. Def not a bad product either way, to-each-his-own
@@andreassouth1523 any softdome or silkdome tweeter typically will. The titanium or metal dome tweeters are LOUD and can be harsh if not tuned right. I've enjoyed the KS componants for a while now. They've been on around 125 watts rms, far from blown and sound excellent for thier price
Hi Mike My name is Ajay and i am from Mumbai city, India. I would like to thank you for your excellent efforts to get such an awesome review. I have bought Alpine S65 for Rs. 4250/ ( In USD 58) in India. I have always used Alpine speakers and they are the best. Thank you once again and i will now be following all your videos
I have a pair of jbl clubs for my car and only paired to a factory head unit they sound awesome. I originally went to get them put in with a amp but was told that my factory head unit had plenty of power to get them loud enough and not to waste the money.
The new alpine type S speakers sound so good i have a set in my accord off just a head unit and was very impressed. Adding a set of them to my RSX pushed off a kicker 360.4 so they will have 65rms of power and should sound even better.
Do a video for sound quality, with less bass. Most of us run subwoofers for the bass so we tune our radio without bass on the normal speakers to get a good clean sound without distortion, and let the subs handle the bass. So, make one for sound quality with less bass and mostly highs.
I can’t wait to hear the focal hertz mpk and cdt Hd speaker 🔈 test . Thx mike bro for another great video you been a big help finding the best bang for my money
the best performers here were the ones with an inductor on the woofer. these are also the only ones even approaching a "real" crossover. this limits high frequencies to the woofers. all of these 6.5 inch woofers suffer cone breakup before their natural rolloff point, making them all sound muddy especially at high volume when run full range. this video should demonstrate the importance of crossovers and the downside to running most woofers full range.
FYI you can not test speakers without enclosure. Enclosure can and does change sound significantly. Only thing you can hear now if speaker high/mid range is irritating to you or not (mater of sound taste, subjective).
The best speakers I've ever had for under $100 or £100 in my case, were the *DLS Performance* speakers. Blew everything else out the water, Alpine, Hertz, JL, Focal .. simple the best speakers i've tested under £100. Put them in my ex--girlfriends car, then we split up a few weeks later.

I love the side by side tests you do! I have JBL GX602's from my old college car that I decided to put into my 22-Sierra SLT 6.2L non-bose, and made an immediate improvement over factory. I mentioned I have the 6.2L because they come factory with cabin sound proofing. The 6.5's sounded so good, I decided to install a couple underseat subs with a cheap ~300w mono amp, and WOW my ~$200 dollar system sounds much better than the factory BOSE. the JBL tweeters unamplified are keeping up with the 300w subs! BTW the JBL GX602s were the GX628 predecessor with the same tweeter that can be rotated/aimed toward the listener. Can any of the other speaker tweeters be manipulated?
I’m reading these comments about testing them in a speaker box.. I support both the viewers and mike because #1... remember in a real vehicle application, 6.5” Woofers don’t go in a sealed or ported box, it’s a door which is essentially an “Infinite baffle” Soooo it’s kinda ok-ish to do a hand held demonstration (BUT) MIKE 🙏 please make a loooong speaker box that holds about 6 speakers with dividers in the box for individual chambers and a push button for each speaker so we can hear consistent real time competitions and also get to hear them all in a box and out of a box.
I literally just upgraded my factory speakers from 5.25" to 6.5" speakers. Let's start with the fact that I have two 12" subwoofers pushing over 4000 watts so I needed mids and highs. I have been a long time fan of Pioneer however I purchased the 6.5" 4 way A series Pioneers and at low volume they were clear sounding but quieter than my factory speakers. When bumping up the volume to 3/4 they were still quieter than my factory 5.25 speakers but also became very muddy sounding. I literally returned them for a pair of Kicker DX65's and they're noticeably louder than my factory and even the Pioneers... Let alone the Kicker 2 way 6.5 speakers were much crisper and clearer than the Pioneer 4 way speakers. To sum it up I'm incredibly disappointed in the Pioneers sound quality and volume
@@user-dm2bq7wk7y because 4 way speakers have more tweeters than a 2 way or 3 way. I have however since replaced the Kicker dash and rear speakers for Alpine Type R's and though I lost a little sharp crispness in the highs I gained about more music quality
You guys are missing out a big thing!! He was saying again and again about putting the speaker in a box so as to sound good but its not the reality!! Coz if you know a bit more about the speakers then you should probably know about the Thiel small parameters For those who don't know, its just more scientific data and values about the speaker (detailed specifications). What i am trying to say is One of the Thiel small parameter ; "QTS" which denotes whether the speaker needs an open enclosure or a sealed enclosure or an infinite baffle(doesn't require any box) [qts .4,.7 = infinite baffle]. Most of the car doors have some kind of vents and not property sealed thus car audio manufacturers take it into account and design the speakers to have a qts value higher than .7 Hence it is not required to have any type of box for such speakers to perform any better than performing it in open air.
Dude you're fucking awesome!! Just got into the whole car audio stuff and bought myself a pioneer fh-s820dab double din stereo but now struggling to look at car speakers and this is perfect timing as I need 6.5" speakers under £100. Keep doing what you are doing you definitely deserve more subs and views!!
I'm a bit confused. It would be helpful if you could show a text box telling us which speaker you are playing when you do the sound tests. Just saying 'this guy' doesn't tell me which speaker you are referring to. I know you mentioned names at the beginning, but you didn't actually mention model numbers, and with the change of angle from over top to front of you, it's even more confusing. But thank you for the effort.
Its hard to really judge the potential of a speaker when you freeair it...put it in a baffle in a confined space. Speakers that are engineered by the manufacturer use a realistic enviroment.

This video was very helpful. I've been looking at 6.5" speakers, and I need them to be 4 ohm. I like the smooth, accurate sound of soft dome tweeters, and tight bass! @@josephjoestar5444 Not yet but it seems from watching most installer video's that Focal is the holy grail of car audio. According to Mike angels Orion is the best bang for your buck. Steve Meade likes B2 Audio. Some guys like JL audio. I have some JL audio and they are pretty good but I am always in search of better. If I were to put together a system right now I would have a head unit with optical out, I would have an Audio control DSP with Optical in, B2 three way components and subwoofer. I would have an Orion XTR or HCCA 2 channel for the Sub because it is Class AB (better sound quality over monoblocks which are class D) and Orion XTR or HCCA 4 Channel for the Mids and Highs. I would be building it for Sound quality and not SPL.
I had to give this a thumbs down cause the sound variance back and forth had to increase volume when he was talking and then quickly turn it down for the tests. Plus there needs to a labels on the screen when changing from speaker to speaker so we can tell clearly what we are hearing. One thing that would help would be a side by side comparison of all the stats between each of these speakers. I believe the initial thought is a great idea for this cause I have been in the market for some new speakers for my 4Runner that has 4-6.5's but after this I think I was a bit more confused cause of trying to follow everything and hear it all clearly. I do thank you for the time and effort that has been placed into this video and keep up the work.
Hello, advice on speakers to put in the rear panel of a Volkswagen Golf, 2 or 3 ways that sound good even without an amplifier but only with a car radio, budget € 60/90
The only fail I notice is it seems you're more interested in the low frequencies rather than the highs. For obvious reasons, - I think - the video should have been focused in the 20,000 Hz and beyond instead. We thank a lot these kind of videos anyway.

@@A6Legit Understandable. I run 4 of those polks and cutout bass frequencies under 100hz on them so they don't have distortion even when I have em cranked on an MTX Thunder 75.4. Just looking for a solid upgrade beyond them,, looking at a rockford Fosgate pair, Alpine S-S65S, or the JBL GTO629s. But afraid of not feeling like I really upgraded
@@1NcognitoXx Yeah I was disappointed with these Kickers, but it very well could be my downgraded amp. You'd think an extra 40W rms and higher sensitivity would be night and day but I still like my polks. They were definitely getting more power on my other amp tho.
This guy is the best speakers content on RUclips! Hands down the best, since I found Mikes channel back in February, I don’t even watch any other channel for speaker information.
Love from Prague 🇨🇿, my friend!
You havent seen speaker videos on DopplerFX channel yet then. Very high quality mics and speakers are actually in cabinets
Install my JBL GX628 and they performed as expected. Thanks Mike
Stuck to my budget and went pioneers all around. 6.5 front on just head unit. Amp for 6x9's on the deck. Sounds awesome and hit decent. I also have an alpine S 12inch sub with a ported box.
I've always thought Speakers we're designed to be in an enclosure which makes a HUGE difference in the way they sound and preform, this is the kind of test I've seen a couple times at the local Flee Market... 🤦 ,, No Hate , respect the effort & hustle ✊
they are, this is no way to test them
True, although for purposes of a video if you test all of them in the exact same environment, with the same music one after the other, then your ear can determine a preference and allow you to rank the best from top to bottom.
no, all car speakers should be designed for infinite baffle aka your car door which is anything but a speaker enclosure unless you do extensive deadening, mass loaded vinyl and recreating factory seals ETC... and even then its just a large leaky sealed box at best.
Def not a bad product either way, to-each-his-own
Which has the most soft sounding tweeter?
@@andreassouth1523 any softdome or silkdome tweeter typically will. The titanium or metal dome tweeters are LOUD and can be harsh if not tuned right. I've enjoyed the KS componants for a while now. They've been on around 125 watts rms, far from blown and sound excellent for thier price
Alpine is what i am going for. Although jbl is so good yet theres a tiny little difference i am going to alpine.
Hi Mike
My name is Ajay and i am from Mumbai city, India. I would like to thank you for your excellent efforts to get such an awesome review. I have bought Alpine S65 for Rs. 4250/ ( In USD 58) in India. I have always used Alpine speakers and they are the best.
Thank you once again and i will now be following all your videos
Where do you stay in Mumbai…. I stay in Navi Mumbai…. I would like to listen to ur car speakers… can we connect?
My Blues 6.5 x 4ohm are still, by far, the best mids I've ever used. Had them since they where released. They've lived in 5 different vehicles now.
I have a pair of jbl clubs for my car and only paired to a factory head unit they sound awesome. I originally went to get them put in with a amp but was told that my factory head unit had plenty of power to get them loud enough and not to waste the money.
What jbl club exactly did you get, and also what car do you have?
The new alpine type S speakers sound so good i have a set in my accord off just a head unit and was very impressed. Adding a set of them to my RSX pushed off a kicker 360.4 so they will have 65rms of power and should sound even better.
I bough the alpine and sound amazing, thanks so much for your videos dude. Help me a lot on my choose !.
Do a video for sound quality, with less bass. Most of us run subwoofers for the bass so we tune our radio without bass on the normal speakers to get a good clean sound without distortion, and let the subs handle the bass. So, make one for sound quality with less bass and mostly highs.
tweeters help out a lot with that, do you have any recommendations for the pure quality of highs and shit?
@@vfwm4879 probably Memphis or one of those decent brands. I've heard that ds18 is good quality for cheap which i might try myself for all my audio.
17:49 - Love how he holds the speaker up like a sacrifice to the gods - lol
Like a snow cone thats melting in the sun.
name of the speaker ?
FYI you can not test speakers without enclosure. Enclosure can and does change sound significantly. Only thing you can hear now if speaker high/mid range is irritating to you or not (mater of sound taste, subjective).
I've always been happy with Pioneer, once you set your EQ settings just right, they shine well.
But they don't last more than 2-3 years
@@endless_touge I've always gotten more than 2 years out of them.
Mike, you are the man! Haha I don't really comment or subscribe ever on videos but I had to this time - dude, unless I was born yesterday, it looks like you had fun and enjoyed making the video and idk why but that made me way happier than any of the information!! That said, you actually provided information and get demos and your opinion and then called out other sites and companies and what not for their BS just like a viewer might expect a buddy to or might themselves and comfortable to trust your word feeling like you were being real instead of pushing for commissions. Lastly, whatever native tongue you speak, "props to you, dude" 😂 for speaking English as well and thanks a ton for translating so that I could watch and understand the material! 👊🏼
Stay smilin' and keep doing what you're doing, brotha!
The smell on a new speaker is a must! That's called speaker break in, after that, the speaker sounds so much better.
Can any of the other speaker tweeters be manipulated?
hows the bass?
You got a new subscriber whenever you said we deserve the best of the best. Thank you sir
I got my Pioneer TS-600M's for 59 dollars at Walmart. I have them on a Kenwood deck and for what it is I'm getting amazing sound!!!
You are great at this but I have been trying to guess which speaker is which for 30 min now. Please add the details and conclusion somewhere.
Its still a sealed setup. The door resonates and makes it sound better. Damping and enclosures just make them more better.
It’s rare too find a ‘ no bullshit sound guy !! This bloke seems pretty good 😊
I literally just upgraded my factory speakers from 5.25" to 6.5" speakers.
I’m glad to hear this I just got the kickers
I don't understand why you would go with a 4 way with already mass bass ?
@@user-dm2bq7wk7y because 4 way speakers have more tweeters than a 2 way or 3 way.
I have however since replaced the Kicker dash and rear speakers for Alpine Type R's and though I lost a little sharp crispness in the highs I gained about more music quality
If you were really pushing a REAL 4K then you wouldn’t be talking about Alpine and Kicker speakers.
Does it matters that the jbl has low impedance?
You guys are missing out a big thing!!
He was saying again and again about putting the speaker in a box so as to sound good but its not the reality!!
Coz if you know a bit more about the speakers then you should probably know about the Thiel small parameters
For those who don't know, its just more scientific data and values about the speaker (detailed specifications).
What i am trying to say is
One of the Thiel small parameter ; "QTS"
which denotes whether the speaker needs an open enclosure or a sealed enclosure or an infinite baffle(doesn't require any box)
[qts .4,.7 = infinite baffle].
Most of the car doors have some kind of vents and not property sealed thus car audio manufacturers take it into account and design the speakers to have a qts value higher than .7
Hence it is not required to have any type of box for such speakers to perform any better than performing it in open air.
What you get? I am in the exact situation as you (same head unit, need 6.5)
Wow, you’re clever testing speakers with an enclosure. I’m pretty sure they all sound great.
Its hard to really judge the potential of a speaker when you freeair it...put it in a baffle in a confined space. Speakers that are engineered by the manufacturer use a realistic enviroment.
yeah thanks for the video. As an honorable mention the Polk DB+ marine speakers for $89 are pretty solid performers with 100 watt RMS.
Thank you for answering the question "which is the best budget handheld speaker".
Seriously though, great vid mate
So getting out of this price range what car door speakers would you recommend?
Like the older Kenwood XR 1800 7” nice bass, I bought mine for $108.00 I think they selling for $199.00 now. Crazy!! The newer xr1801’s are $ 399.00 nuts!!
The speaker playing at 7:33 seconds is breaking apart because something dropped out from under the tweeter/cone area. Check it out.
That looks like packing materials like a piece of styrofoam
I still love those Alpine Type S speakers ❤️
Alpine is the winner with a real robust presence!!
how does Alpine S-S65 compares to Alpine Spr-60? they are really similar in paper, i found both really close on price and want to make the best buy
Great video. I just bought a kenwood stereo and have a 8in comp r sub. Looking to install 4-5.25 front speakers and 2-4in rear speakers. Would the alpine be your choice? I was looking at the JBL club line also.
Do more Jbl and Infinity speakers and Subs please awesome channel🔥🔥🔥
I bought the Alpine simply becoz you had more smiles on it while testing.. leaving it the technical side to uncle Morty
Hey bro you will enjoy it for sure )
Hey Mike i really appreciate your videos. Thanks so much i really have learned to see the difference between the speakers. I have bought the Alpine r series total system and waiting for it be installed. I would appreciate if you can review Alpine R series soon.
What do you think sounds better? 6.5 woofer with a separate 4 inch coaxial or a 6.5 coaxial. The 6.5 is sitting on the floor by the leg facing towards seat. 4 is on dash pointing up to windshield. Thanks
Driving up the price of good sound hidden gems are being sold at higher price now I know what speaker is better for my money and that I'll be paying more but I glad you get a channel driving prices up
Thank you for your speaker review
i just ordered 2 pairs of Apline spkers you just reviews keep doing what you do :)
Love my pioneer 200 Watters I put front and rear.normally $129 a pair on sale for $49,factory blaupunkt head unit Holden VZ Commodore, just nice sound without all the bs.
video starts at 7:18
I have the pioneer 6.5 speakers to replace the cheap old speakers in my rear speaker for my surround sound system and the sound great
Yeah, freeair soundcheck on the table. This is the real thing ;-)
1st of all im greatfull for what you do its tuff to choose when money is not easy to get these days. Mb quartz would be a good competitor if your up to it. If you would like to send a pair across the world to the tropical island of GUAM it would be amazing and appreciated😁. thanks again for looking out for people getting there moneys worth👍
Do you mean MB Quart?
I have a 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager raised roof edition and I'm working with the guy of doing the nice matching equipment Alpine head unit CD player the factory 6-in speakers on the dashboard are going over to 6 and 1/2 and the 5x7's on the door will stay the same size but going to Alpine in the back tailgate are 5x7s being converted the 6x9s everything will be Alpine including the amplifier can't wait to get this done after hearing how it sounds and the clean crisp quality of the Alpines it's worth the investment and the money
Alpine has the the most accurate base reproduction.. The overall sound quality is warm and natural..
Remember this is my opinion ladies and gentlemen.
Title should be "6 Best 6.5 mainstream coaxial speakers for Auto Audio"
Underground Auto Audio I vote these 6 Audio Dynamics, Ampere Audio Deafbonce "sound quality addition" Dynaudio, focal, Rainbow.
Great Video though!!
Can you do another video of the jbl gto 6.5 coaxial? And out of the jbl stage, jbl club, jbl gx, and jbl gto which is your favorite? Also great video!
also i would love to see the JL audio C1-650x
I put jbl gx 6x9 in my lexus and didn't like them now i have the gto 6x9 and love them
@Johnnys Tech gx i didn't like either try the gto939... also i hope u dont have to install aftermarket deck or something coz idk how much power is in that stock radio
@Johnnys Tech let me know what model u install and how they compare to the jbl
Best speakers test which I ever see !!! 👍👍👍👍👍
I have been around car stereo most of my life and around audio the kenwood at 13.32 in vid sound better for voices n treble and when running a sub personally all I Eva want it my door speakers to give more treble and voice then bass or even mid range bass. If you want mid range bass in car setup go with 6 x9 or 7x10. Speaker style. Also when doing your review bro say this kenwood say model when changing over to show the viewers it be better way of doing the review. Keep up the good work
Can I play the JBL without amplifier striaght from my stock car stereo? Model- Honda Accord 2014 sport ...please advise
Play some Skynyrd when testing!! The guitar sounds really would sound awesome!!
This video was very helpful.
I've been looking at 6.5" speakers, and I need them to be 4 ohm. I like the smooth, accurate sound of soft dome tweeters, and tight bass!
I also need 4x6" or 4" speakers to go with them. Both Alpine & kicker offer compatible options.
I think the Alpines are what I would prefer. I'm going to go give them a listen compared to the kickers today!
Don't buy kicker speakers, alpine is way better.
@@inglouriousmofo Already got 6.5" S-series component in the front with 4" in the rear. They sound great. I swear I can hear detail I've never heard before. I paired them with a 12" sub.
Jbl gx or alpine s series ? which one you think is best bro for clarity and bass equally for the music
Are all front firing speakers? Bass characteristics are best judged by sealing them properly in a box or enclosure. Tweeters are easier to differentiate imo. Morel leads the way in tweeter clarity. Not to dull nor too bright. Just perfect even on entry level maximo series.
this guy knows what hes talking about get 4 jbl speakers 4 my car and the best speakers iv eve had in a car no need 4 under seat sub
Bro thank you for sharing your experience with us I'm trying my best to give honest reviews and enjoy your new set up👍
Best speaker for a stock head unit and no amp?
I have a subwoofer to handle bass so I need to know which speakers sound clearer. I do not want bass from from my 6.5 coaxials. Which one sounds clearer and crisper ?
Any update on that? What speakers are best for clean crisp sound
How about infinity reference speakers?
If you compare infinity reference vs Alpine which one's better?
Which one is the best 50 watt rms? I like my windows down on the highway so they gotta get loud
No time stamps, thanks bud
Can I recommend a mic for you? I watch RUclips videos on my tv, typically volume 9-15 depending on surrounding noises in the house. I could not hear a word you said until I raised the volume on my tv to 40. But anytime you played music I had to lower it back down to like 15
Rockford Fosgate Primes provide the best range for factory setups. Know your head unit's wattage output and match that with the speakers' range.
Nice and please tell me if sony audio player, sony speakers, sony subwoofer, sony amplifier or jbl audio player, alpine speakers, Kenwood amplifier, kickker subwoofer which one is better sound out put
