When I was making my daughter’s baby food, I bought a lot of frozen fruits and vegetables and cooked those because they were often better quality and color. She started solids in the winter time in the northwest, so there are not many good fresh produce options. Thank you for making videos like this!
Thanks for the vlog! I've told people that frozen is oftentimes much better because vegetables are frozen immediately and they don't believe me. I need to send them this video! I buy frozen fish at Costco. They have mahi filets individually wrapped. It's convenient and I can have fish whenever I'm craving it. ;)

@@HealthNutNutrition you can buy fresh & freeze it at ur home.. that also works good.instead of putting little more money for the frozen one than on fresh.
There’s a product made by “Debbie Meyers” inventor of the “Green Bags”. She now makes “Green Containers”, with no BPA manufactured with some sort of special plastic that keeps your Berries and Greens fresh 3 to 5 times longer. I invested in them because, I’m widowed and my children are grown but I still continue to shop at Costco‘s. I was doubtful at first but, delightfully surprised how amazing they work. You can buy them on Amazon.com or HSN. They come in a multitude of beautiful colors. I even have one that holds a loaf of bread and my 15 Grain Bread has stayed fresh & mold free for a month! It is unbelievable, but I swear it’s true! I definitely buy lots of things frozen but, somethings I just prefer Fresh. I really enjoy your videos and subscribe to your channel last week when RUclips suggested your channel. Thank You for all your hard work! 😊👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I refuse to buy regular avocado because the two times I have I've cut my hand open trying to get the pit out. Frozen avo is legit better for my health lol.
I tried your kale, lentils, potato, and carrot stew. So yummy. I followed your recipe. I was mind blowned. I am a meat eater, but when i tried it i did not care about meat. Please stay awesome
Like you mentioned, fruits and vegetables are frozen at their peak freshness and when fresh they have to travel through different environments and temperatures before they get to your local stores so I am totally okay with using frozen foods (in most cases). I of course love fresh as well for many reasons. It just depends on what time I have and what I’m making. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea pomegranates came frozen!
Here is a wicked good edamame recipe. Sesame oil, bag of the beans, soy soy sauce, orange juice, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, chili flakes and lime juice. My family loves this mix and when we do it they are gone fast. My aunt got me hooked on them around 6 years ago when she made them for dinner and I had no clue was it was. She put lime and salt on it and it was a good mix. I love getting frozen raspberrys and blueberries because if I get them fresh they are not always sweet and also there not cheap. A small bog of fresh berries are $2.99 or $3.99 and for the frozen same price but theres more in the bag and I know what componys that are the freshest and the best. I love dole organic pineapple and raspberrys. Frozen brocoli I get that all the time and I have not had it in a week and I might loose my mind!
Always have TJ’s organic frozen broccoli, sweet yellow corn & chopped tri color peppers! They are so easy to have on hand for roasting or a quick fried rice!
Another thing, our local Fred Meyer carry's a pepper mix, (Red, Green, Yellow) and onions blend that I found is a great thing to have on hand for omelets and Italian Sausage. Saves a lot of prep time having to cut all that stuff up and not having to buy different color peppers.
People keep commenting saying that organic means pesticide free... nope. Legally, you CAN use certain pesticides and fertilizers on organic produce. Organic means neither GMO-free nor pesticide-free. Corporations will use the term 'organic' as much as legally possible, because it's a buzzword. People! Please understand that your interpretation of the word may not be the way the law interprets it.
Maybe you have a different sort of sweet tooth? Perhaps add some dates and let them mix around a bit? To me, blueberries aren't sweet, but that's surely 'cause I first tasted them in a packaged sugar-dense mix.
Julia Power I buy organic frozen mangos and strawberries from Costco and both are tasteless. I don’t like things very sweet actually. But both of these fruits I bought from Costco are really really tasteless.
I'm so curious to know how you cut/peel mangos. If you cut it like how it's photographed on the packaging (cut 2 halves close to the pit and score a checker pattern), then all you need is a spoon to scoop out the cubes.
I buy a lot of fruits and vegetables in season and freeze them. I fortunate to have several farmers markets close by and by getting to know the growers I can buy in bulk and save quite a bit. I've frozen apples, berries, melon, and corn, to name a few. The corn I freeze right in the husk. I have berrie bushes in my yard and just pick and freeze. I live in a rural part of Maine with many organic farmers close by.
You could just buy fresh food and freeze them. It's better for your environment because of the less use of plastic and it's healthier because most of the time those frozen foods have additives.
Frozen foods are frozen within hours of being picked though. Fish is frozen right on the ship after being caught. By the time fresh foods get to the store it's been days and they aren't that fresh anymore.
1) It is not better for the environment. There is more waste shipping fresh produce due to spoilage. The amount of packaging used is about the same. 2) Read the ingredient label. There are no additives if they are not listed. 3) What "Sharon Rose" wrote. 4) Often times, frozen foods are less expensive than fresh. e.g. Strawberries at Trader Joe's and ground meat at Kroger
Thank you so much for this! There are a few things I have never thought to look for in the frozen isle. Pomegranate seeds and avocado are two of my favorites for smoothies.
I always buy frozen green beans (except occasionally at a farmer's market) because they've been frozen immediately after harvest and I don't have to snap the ends off myself. I use at least one package a week in stir fries and other one pan dishes. I also steam them quickly to keep them nice and green.
I add the green beans at the end when cooking a stir fry or soup and let them just heat through. If they lose their bright green color, they're overlooked and some of the vitamins have been destroyed. I also keep frozen peas on hand and add them to stir fries and soups, but I put them in after turning off the heat. For soups I put the peas in the bowl and pour the hot soup over them. Frozen peas can be rinsed with hot water to remove frost, dried on a towel for and added to a salad.
I have heard frozen is better than fresh because it's frozen at it's peak so I agree with some of these items. I love them both! I hate frozen peas though. GREAT CONTENT- KEEP IT UP!!!!
Thank you! Completely agree on the berries. I never knew eating Pomegranate seeds was a healthy step. I'll have to research its benefits. Just recently started eating a few Papaya seeds daily for their many health benefits.
The brand is Canadian. Its called pc (presidents choice). I buy this brand... its the best honestly... a lot of the time they actually taste better than fresh!!!
okay so i sometimes just eat a handful of frozen peas straight from the freezer as a healthy cold snack on a hot day. Is that weird? I think I actually like them better that way.
Most of the times these fruits and veggies are sold in plastic boxes or those mesh bags even when fresh.. I actually think that frozen is better since the amount is much larger in a bag than if i buy it fresh.
Unless you are buying food at a farm, there is a lot of waste buying fresh. Spoilage, imperfections, and it's all transported in cartons with plastic wrap. Frozen is actually less wasteful in terms of the food and the packaging. And frozen often costs less per ounce -- another indication that there is less waste (you aren't paying for all the spoilage)

This is a great list! I didn't know you could get pomegranate arils frozen, definitely going to have to find them! My husband and I eat a lot of roasted veggies. I typically buy a lot of broccoli and green beans frozen so I have some easy veggies to make for dinner. The only thing I kinda disagree with is berries. I find the flash freezing they do with berries messes with the texture too much for my enjoyment. I got some of those Rubbermaid produce savers though and they work WONDERS for the shelf life of my berries and greens :)
You had some good suggestions! My go to 3 frozen items are: blueberries, strawberries and raspberries! I love them separately and you can never have too many berries ☺️
I'm assuming the pomegranate arils thaw fairly fast? When you said what is the sister or brother of peas, I thought you were going to say carrots. lol!
Not all of these are available in the USA believe it or not, like Pomegranate and avocado, I freeze my own. But these are the same things I buy frozen bc it makes so much sense. I get all mine at Costco, but the spinach at Trader Joe's. PC in Canada shapes the shopping habits of Canada

On one hand I agree with you. On the other, I've had experiences where the fresh avo was not yet ripe. Too hard to cut. So I wait. And wait. And wait for it to ripen. By the time I deem it ripe enough to cut into, it's gone rotten inside. I've had that happen at least 2x. The frozen avo chunks stay fresh & green while frozen. So you can just take as much as you want & keep the rest fresh by keeping them frozen.
If you decrease the temperature in your fridge to between one and two degrees, or 1 and 2 units of however temperature is measured, you will find nine out of ten perishable foods lasting longer from a few days to a few weeks. Storage at this temperature is one of the methods used to transport certain foods around the world by sea. This doesn't use much more electricity. If any. :) PS I have no desire to be a family man, nor a vegetarian /vegan/Klingon ;)
Great video! Where do you buy the frozen fish? Do you get it at Costco? Just wondering because I saw frozen salmon at Costco and I’m just wondering if it tastes good. 🙂
I have recently been buying a lot of my fruit and veggies fresh but sticking them in silicone bags in the freezer. I tend to prefer the taste of the fresh but frozen foods definitely have their place. I totally agree on buying frozen mangos, who wants to put in all the work for that?
Some of those are great because you can't find them fresh all year (for example peas, corn - though you can get them in better packaging, such as jars or cans), but for mango, avocado, etc, it is so wasteful to use these frozen versions in bags, especially since, as far as I know, they cannot be recycled. :( It really doesn't take that long to peel and cut an avocado or a mango and planning ahead means you can get not ready avocados and allow tem to get ripe before using.
I've made guacamole from frozen avocado before. it works perfectly because they are high in fat and therefore don't change that much when frozen... unlike cucumbers for example that have a high water content.
I like fresh and frozen veggies except peas and corn just taste so much better out of the can especially peas probably the sodium I guess lol and they taste sweeter too or something idk if anyone else thinks that Or just me because I love everything else frozen.
Depends on what peas you buy frozen and same with the corn. Canned peas and corn are generally of sweeter varieties or may have a little sugar added to get the same level of preservation without having to be so heavy handed on the salt. When buying frozen peas look for sweetlet, snow or sugar peas and for corn try to find peaches and cream corn. These will give you the sweetness while being able to control how much salt you add and being generally cheaper.
When I freeze berries or cut fruit and vegetables, such as chopped ginger for smoothies, I spread the pieces out on a pie plate or baking sheet until they are frozen. Then I put them in containers. That way I can pour out just as much as I want without them being in. A big chunk.
Fyi. Organic does Not mean gmo free. Organic - produced or involving production without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other artificial agents. Not gmo free. 2nd fyi. I read somewhere that corn & soybeans (edamame) have been genetically modified for so long that it's impossible to find non-gmo corn or soy.
Devine Massage corn, soy bean, edamame are hybrid/ manmade foods. Most hybrid foods are not good for humans because their molecular structure is not finished and they are two or three plans bind by starch and starch is not good for you. They have no nutritional values. In fact, they ripped out good minerals and vitamins from your body. As much as possible stick to food that are still in their original state.
Why is it a "problem" for you it fish la defrosted? I mean I don't know there but in Italy it needs to be frozen ad soon ad It is caught for safety against micro organisms... maybe you mean that the one you buy has often been frozen for a long period of time and then defrosted when it's time for the selling? (Just a question love you and your videos)
I was so excited when I found those pomegranate arils in the freezer section, they are now happily in my freezer lol. I use them in a quinoa I make with pomegranate and pistachios 🤤. I also keep lots of frozen veggies and fruit.
I agree with almost everything here, and fish for sure - but you should always try to get these thing s fresh over frozen as a rule, and be proactive and freeze them before they go bad, especially berries! The enzymes and nutrients in raw fresh produce is what your eating them for in the first place, and very little of those vital nutrients and enzymes survive freezing, and so your kind of just eating empty food... always beat to eat as fresh as possible!
I buy a lot of these freeze dried from Thrive life and it’s awesome! After I open it there is a 12 month shelf life. Thank you for another great video!
They have been washed and blanched before being individually flash frozen generally speaking. Mangos wouldn’t be washed or blanched because they’re peeled and depitted then chopped. Spinach has been washed and blanched which is why frozen spinach doesn’t shrink.
Can you do items you should have with limited fridge/freezer space?? We have a small apartment fridge, so I can never figure out what I should keep on hand because there’s not a lot of space
If you have space in a small apartment get a small chest freezer (make sure its of the top opening design for much better energy efficiency) and make it pull double duty as extra counter space for food preparation. I have a cutting board on my little freezer. As for essentials, combine your green beans, carrots, peas and corn into a bag of mixed veg that you can quickly steam or throw into dishes like soups at the end. They take no time to thaw and cook. Also keep a bag of frozen spinach pellets because they take up less space and will easily break apart when thrown into a dish or sauce. If you like cooked fruit or smoothies just pick your favourite blend or single fruits for smoothies and additions to cooked food such as oats.
I purchase fresh kale, blueberries, pineapples....etc, wash, prep and pot in freezer bags and freeze for later use. I prefer steamed frozen than regular frozen...process is healthier. Corn must be organic!

That's a great idea!!
@healthnut Where do you do most of your groceries???
Amairani Olvera she didn't respond but I see the Presidents choice label on most of her items so I would guess she is shopping at Loblaws.
Knowing how much you like dal, you should try to make dal palak with the frozen spinach
I can’t find any frozen pomegranate at my supermarket. Where do you get yours from?
Love this Nikole! The best part of Monday is your video! 🥰🥰🥰
Awe thanks Rose! #healthnutfam 🥑🥑🥑
Good to know!! 🥑🥑🥑
Which brand sell frozen okra
Am a young single senior, l prefer the frozen. Does frozen has the same benefits as fresh?
I just freeze my own berries.
I buy a lot during season when they’re cheap and freeze them.
Huh . They're never cheap
Great idea!
When I freeze berries or cut fruit and vegetables, such as chopped ginger for smoothies, I spread the pieces out on a pie plate or baking sheet until they are frozen. Then I put them in containers. That way I can pour out just as much as I want without them being in. A big chunk.
Subscribed! I live in northern Virginia so I’m curious if we have frozen avocados! Never seen them before :)
Frozen Avocado and pomegranate seeds?? Now i am jealous 😅
Really great video! I’m going to add some of these frozen foods to my grocery list.😁
Glad this inspired you!!
I was so excited when I found those pomegranate arils in the freezer section, they are now happily in my freezer lol. I use them in a quinoa I make with pomegranate and pistachios 🤤. I also keep lots of frozen veggies and fruit.
Right?! They are life-changing! Sounds like a good quinoa recipe 🤤
I literally have never said “oh yeah, I need some peas for this”.
You are hilarious:)
Most of these are a good idea.. however, environment-wise I don’t know if I’d be on board buying alll those bags of frozen produce.
Is the frozen avocado get mushy?
No it doesn't!
I agree with almost everything here, and fish for sure - but you should always try to get these thing s fresh over frozen as a rule, and be proactive and freeze them before they go bad, especially berries! The enzymes and nutrients in raw fresh produce is what your eating them for in the first place, and very little of those vital nutrients and enzymes survive freezing, and so your kind of just eating empty food... always beat to eat as fresh as possible!
great video I buy frozen peas n fruit all the time..
I buy a lot of these freeze dried from Thrive life and it’s awesome! After I open it there is a 12 month shelf life. Thank you for another great video!
Have frozen vegetables and fruits been washed ? Should we wash them ?
They have been washed and blanched before being individually flash frozen generally speaking. Mangos wouldn’t be washed or blanched because they’re peeled and depitted then chopped. Spinach has been washed and blanched which is why frozen spinach doesn’t shrink.
I like to buy Frozen chopped onions.
Can you do items you should have with limited fridge/freezer space?? We have a small apartment fridge, so I can never figure out what I should keep on hand because there’s not a lot of space
oh like top freezer food essentials?
What brand are your frozen items? Where do you purchase at?
all over!
Are you in Canada? I'm in Waterloo.
Yes I am Canadian! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'm going to start freezing my avocados. Life hack
I purchase fresh kale, blueberries, pineapples....etc, wash, prep and pot in freezer bags and freeze for later use. I prefer steamed frozen than regular frozen...process is healthier. Corn must be organic!
Ya, but why not freeze fresh berries?
Only from your own garden
