Although chemicals and pesticides are sprayed on the outside of the plant, the thickness of the skin does not make a difference in how much gets into the plant. Chemicals are in the fertilizers put in the dirt as well and rain washes the sprayed on chemicals into the dirt then the roots of the plants take all these things up into the plant. People need to start planting things to get a better understanding on how plants work.
I agree with you that chemicals are absorbed through the root system, as well as the leaf and outer skin of fruits and vegetables. The best would be home grown. I cannot wait until I have more time and space to grow my own fruits and vegetables 💗
HealthNut Nutrition what I was trying to point out was that everything sprayed on the skin goes into soil. Rain washes it down into the roots that takes it up into the fruit. It is a big misconception that the skin keeps you safe.
@@myenchantedlife5262 I see that you are a great source of information... so, I m interested, should we rinse our vegetables and fruits with some special solution, or just water?
Katerina Ilievska it is best to make your own produce wash. Fill your sink with water, add 1 cup of vinegar and 10 drops of lemon essential oil then soak your produce for a few minutes. This will remove surface dirt, wax, E Coli, mold and any chemicals on the surface but there is nothing you can about what is inside the produce. The list of the Clean Fifteen by the EWG are the produce that absorb the least amount of chemicals. Grow your own if you can, buy organic when you can, look for organic frozen if you can’t find fresh, buy from local farmers... that is the order in which I use when shopping.
If not for your own health, then for the workers' health, buy your bananas organic. Please Google crop-dusting and workers' mortality rate in bananaplantations. As consumers we have a social responsibility, especially when we buy from less developed countries
I did start getting organic bananas because I read about the people that get sick growing them. So me giving a little more money for the bananas we eat can save people. I think that's worth it.
Zasia Havelund agreed! Pineapples are really bad too for the people who work the fields actually 😔 I rather buy organic and eat less often those fruits !
Im just trying to give options for people who cant afford everything being organic. when I can I buy organic or local and I talk about the other factors to consider at the end of this video.
Great video Nikole, as you said no one is perfect just buy what you can afford and always remember even a non organic fruit/vegetable is way better than any proceced food :)
With the vegetables that you do not buy organic, is the crop dusting that is done the only exposure the vegetables have to the chemicals, or can the pesticides make its way into the fruit or vegetable when the soil is churned before they are ready for harvest?
Great video and useful information! One thing to note however, is that Organic are also non-GMO products which is a different factor that is considered by many when shopping for produce.
I think Bananas are the only ones I buy organic out of all of the ones you listed on here because the price is literally almost the same in my area here in Florida. I think there is a list some where called the dirty dozen that has a bunch of the veggies that you should always buy organic and a clean list, of veggies you can buy conventional. Excellent video as always. 😊
I’m def one of those people who can’t buy everything organic (grad student on a budget here 🙋🏾♀️) so I really appreciate these types of videos! Do you have any other “budget friendly” videos? 😍
Organic bananas taste much better! Also conventional bananas are highly sprayed, you should only buy organic bananas! And visit organic farmers markets, the products there are fresher and cheaper than in the grocery stores!
Reminder to always wash the fruits or vegetables thoroughly; once you cut into the skin, you’re dragging bacteria, pesticides, etc. inside to the flesh as the knife draws through. Even if it’s organic, it can be dirty from hand picking & handling. Gentle reminder 😉
Another great video, thank you Nikole! So interesting to hear what you do, and to compare the grocery items we have in the UK to you in Canada. I love all your videos especially the meal prep videos too and can’t wait for the next one :) :)
Thanks Nikole. I agree with you, it's difficult to find organic produce much of the time and it can be crazy expensive. I live near Sprouts. Their organic vegetable section is tiny. I always say I'm doing the best I can. I live in AZ so we don't have amazing farmer's markets like Seattle or Oregon. I read every label, buy organic when I can and make good choices for my family. ;) Can I bug you again for the buffalo cauliflower video? Still waiting patiently lol
I'm not big into the organic food thing but I do buy local so I can make sure the food I feed my family is fine. I also only buy organic bananas but not because they are better. The people growing the regular one get pesticide poisoning from working there. So I pay a little extra and can make sure that for my bananas nobody has to get sick or die.
I hardly find an organic asparagus and it so expensive even the non organic. Broccoli and cauliflower, eggplant I must buy organic because they are heavily sprayed and you can't peel no skins out of it. Those I must buy organic. Hard skins fruits and vegetables I dont bother buying organic except there is a good deal on them, thanks for sharing.
I’m happy to say I pretty much buy the same things in a “non-organic” form hahah! I don’t really like watermelon but I just stay away from the “seedless” ones because it’s like how the heck can this grow without seeds!! Lol.. great video as always 🤗
I would highly recommend you connect with farmers to learn how your food is farmed. There is a ton of misinformation online but often times more chemical pesticides are used in organic than conventional. Economies of scale matter... Organic pesticides aren't as effective so more are usually required.
Did you know that organic farming requires 33% more land to produce the same amount of food as conventional practices. I get not wanting pesticides in the air or water but organic farming is a huge contributor to deforestation.
‘Organic’ is not only about pesticides, it’s about the fertilizers used, which are throughout the vegetables and fruits. That doesn’t wash out. Squash, a root vegetable? This video has really made this subscriber question your food knowledge.
Bananas and cantelopes are the most obvious foods that I have noticed a difference in taste from organic to non organic. I'm surprised you have not tasted the difference as well.
I’m surprised of the items you chose not to buy organic. If you think pesticides don’t get into bananas due to their thicker skin, then you should see how much quicker organic bananas ripen and reach their end of life compared to non organic. Pesticides have a great difference on items you may think are ok due to their skin.
I used cauliflouwer in a smoothie some weeks ago. I didnt like the taste so i took it back home to trash it... the bottle exploded on me when opening the bottle x'D
This video is seriously misinformed! You should take this down! Influencing people to not buy organic because you "feel" like it's not that bad when the skin is thick (while people are literally dying in non-organic pineapple and banana plantations and when that's not even how this works) is not okay! This list is both harmful and incorrect! I've worked at the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and this quite frankly pisses me off, bananas are in the top 5 things to buy organic, we barely have non-organic bananas here in Sweden anymore. Even if this video was called "If you can't afford everything organic, skip these items" it wouldn't be correct. Please remove this video.

I definitely think its a mixture of whats in the soil and whats sprayed on the skin.

Zasia Havelund I feel organic bananas have so much more flavor to them too!!
I did start getting organic bananas because I read about the people that get sick growing them. So me giving a little more money for the bananas we eat can save people. I think that's worth it.

I had no idea...🍌 Aldi's has organic 🍌
I'm a subscriber, but this video is very uninformed. So glad for comments that are helping to provide some valuable information.
Jazy totally!!!! Not buying organic is so much more important than buying crap food
With the vegetables that you do not buy organic, is the crop dusting that is done the only exposure the vegetables have to the chemicals, or can the pesticides make its way into the fruit or vegetable when the soil is churned before they are ready for harvest?

I agree with you 100% people have to remember there is no guidelines for organic.
Hopefully what we are buying are true organic
Annmarie Ramirez amen to that. Sometimes it’s not worth the price. No rules
I live in Sweden and I reaally feel the different taste in bananas and most our stores have more organic bananas and just a few conventional! Love it❤
I for sure taste difference with bananas. Always organic!
Me too same
Bananas are known to be chemically ripened

Thank you for this video. I buy organic oranges if I can so I can use the zests.

Can you please do a video on food storage? I like to eat healthy but I feel like my fresh foods go bad so quick.
Thank you , informative as always.. have a question you said before root vegetables to be bought organic or non organic?
Organic refers to the fruits whole growing process too. Not just what pesticides are sprayed on them.
Thanks Nikole. I agree with you, it's difficult to find organic produce much of the time and it can be crazy expensive. I live near Sprouts. Their organic vegetable section is tiny. Not organic
1. Bannanas
2. Avocados
3. Squash
4. Pineapple
5. Red cabbage
6. Eggplant
7. Watermelon
8. Asparagus
9. Broccoli and cauliflower
10. Oranges
So good video 💪✨
Great video and I think is better to buy locally and seasonally rather than buying a super expensive imported product 🥬🥒🍆🍅
Your vidoes are really insightful. I adore you!

Quick guacamole: Mash an avocado with salsa. Add lime or lemon juice if you have it, or just eat it right now (before it browns)!
Thank you for your informative video!I try to buy organic foods when vegetables and fruit are non-seasonal!😊🌷
thank you!

Thanks for the video. No need for the hate comments people. Seriously let her put out content to inform people. She needs to make her coins period.
I'm also picky with asparagus, I prefer to buy the thinner ones because they're easier to hide in meals from the kiddos! Lol
Lol I’m 28 and I still watch spongebob every time I can catch it on tv
I never buy pineapple, squash & avacado organic, love miss cashew, she's so adorable 😊
Nikole, I love all the blouses you have been wearing! Love this list!
I bought an avacodo yesturday to make your avacoda toast.....I did not buy organic thk you
Powerful example of why each one of us should be doing our own research.
It's ka-bow-cha (kabocha). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabocha
They hand chop asparagus in the UK too! I love asparagus but very rarely have it because I don’t know how to cook it
Saute it with garlic in fry pan.
I froze bananas and they turned brown. Any. Idea why?
You should do a blind taste test of conventional and organic and see if you can guess what is what!!!
You dont buy organic bc of the taste.
Danielle Lee Thats why i think she should do the video. When you take away your eyesight it strengthens your sense of taste!
Yess
Love this idea! I've also thought about doing this with real versus fake meat
I find living in Canada I am choosing conventional local foods rather than foreign organic foods.
The broccoli 🥦 stalk aka trunk piece might be good in smoothies instead of the florets.... florets might make it weird

only thing i buy organic is bananas and eggs for the most part they don’t have my tummy hurting like the conventional ones used to...
Egg plant night shade avoid Asparagus organic
Broclie has to be organic Apples rest doesn't matter
Bananas and cantelopes are the most obvious foods that I have noticed a difference in taste from organic to non organic. I'm surprised you have not tasted the difference as well.
Dying at the spongebob intro
Chemicals still grown into the produce.

OMG! lol Check out my video on veggie smoothies for some tips!
I grew up watching Mr Dressup and romper room and polka dot door
I want the avocados you buy mines last 2 days 😂😂
I've learned that if you put them in the fridge once they're ripe, they last a bit longer 😁
I was full on Spongebob! 🙋🏻♀️
haha yes!
If you knew Jamaican dialect this song would go with your love for avocado #Jah9-Avocado
I try to buy as much organic as I can. It’s sad that we even have to this!😩
These are random opinions. I had hoped she had done some research or had a decent reason for why she didn't buy these particular items organic.
Cabbage won’t be waxy if it’s organic
I was hoping this kinda video is more informative on health benefits rather than just price and taste.
Sarahfulful I like bananas. I put them in smoothies. I like cabbage. I put it in salad. WHO LIVES IN A PINEAPPLE UNDER THE SEA?
This is trash lol
Oh and hammy hamster ❤️
The skin doesn't protect the fruit/vegetable at all.....so much wrong information 🙄
Please research.. the key was in your head...thanks for sharing anyway!!

Happy you enjoyed the video and got done helpful tips!
Organic bananas are so cheap though.....
