I’m tired of people complaining about the instrumentation: so here’s what’s going on. This is a very NOLA/NYC arrangement, and it’s a good one at that. In today’s age, lower saxes are commonly used in brass groups that play this style of music. The name “Brass Band” is not given to an ensemble made up of brass instruments, but rather an ensemble with similar instrumentation that plays this style of music. Also, horns in F and baritones/euphoniums are rarely used, and the drum set is always there. Please stop complaining and arguing whether or not the title is accurate, because it is.

traditionally French horns are not used in brass bands it's tenor horns that are
there are two types of brass bands, concert brass and performance/street brass bands(i.e.youngblood brassband) while concert style is what u normally expect(horns, tenor horns...etc) a street brass band uses 1-2 saxophones of anykind and does not use french horns, just tuba trombone and trumpet👍🏼 so this was not a mistake the writer did it on purpose :)

I play the trombone and before like a 2 months ago I’d only really played in like youth ensembles but now I’m starting to cross the border into professional playing and jesus christ, the first time I played 1st trombone in a professional big band set up was just mental for me, damn like honestly I simply gave up tbh😂 constant top D’s, E’s all the way to top Fs, like pretty much as high as the trombone can possibly go. What’s worse is you’re never really given a break, e.g. the lowest note I played throughout the entirety of one of the pieces was a top G; like fuckk😂. I’m a bit better now but I’ll always remember that experience.
I can barely hit those notes when I need to... but get them perfect by accident😂😂
So, I've been watching this since it came out, and I've been trying ever since to hit the high trumpet at the end, and right now at this very moment is the first time I've ever been able to do it, thank you.

@@Euphonium_boi Wow completly forgot about this. I made this comment back when I was still in high school. Truthfully I havent touched my horn since i graduated so not coming along well. I did manage to hit it pretty consistently and it helped me develop my range for some screamer solos in jazz. Thanks for the trip down memory road man.

Joshua Huff traditionally a brass band would refer to the British style brass band which only contains Brass instruments and percussion, no saxes, no woodwind

To be fair, saxes are included in American-style brass bands, which is the setting this is for. (Such as Dirty Dozen or Youngblood.)
A quite different beast if compared to British-style brass bands like Cory.
They are permitted on the council but we do not grant them the rank of master.
That said, you could probably transcribe those parts to horn and euphonium if you really wanted.
Yeah there are different types of brass bands. New orleans brass bands and the like allow saxes and percussion. Lucky chops even used a bass clarinet once

in british style brass band, fr. horns arent in arrangements. they have a very characteristic sound unlike the other brass instruments, which are generally very similar. they are in woodwind arrangements though sometimes.

there are mad comments abt how sax shouldn’t be there; in this context, it’s a brass instrument. bands in k-12 schools are usually orchestrated with saxes as a part of the brass family, usually being orchestrated to support/play in unison with french horns. they become woodwinds in higher level ensembles and the like. so, here, it makes total sense for a saxophone to be included.

Woah jeez. I play trumpet and just seeings those high notes gives me anxiety. One time, an advanced trumpet player was helping us and was making us play Bb, D then F. When it was my turn I accidentally hit higher than F.. he told me to do it again so I did then he told me to relax and it actually helped me a lot!

For everyone commenting “SAXES ARE WOODWINDS, WHY DID YOU ADD SAXOPHONES,” get your facts straight. Saxes are *BRASS*-wind instruments. They have a similar sound to *brass* instruments, but they were (I think) once made of wood. Most people don’t seem to understand that, so they believe saxophones (in this instance, tenor and baritone) are woodwind instruments.
I can see where they are coming from, and I (somewhat) agree with them saying that saxophones are woodwinds. But I, as a band geek/member, understand that saxophones are considered to be a “bridge” between brass and woodwind, thus getting the name “brasswind.”

Also. PLEASE check what is possible and just about impossible for every Brass instrument. Trombones have a WAY WIDER rang than what you give them. And though some trumpets are about to hit those notes.... nobody’s gonna wanna play it, let alone be able to finish those phrases. At most 2 Ledger lines above the staff if you want anyone to even consider playing the part.
