350z / G35 / Maxima Tie Rods Inner and Outer Replacement DIY
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 авг 2024
- Today we are replacing the inner and outer tie rods on my 2005 350z. I believe the process should be the same for all of the 350z's, and likely the maxima and g35 as well (don't quote me to hard on that one thought lol). Tie rods can be a real PIA on some vehicles, on the 350z here they weren't all that bad as long as you can get the front end up off the ground a fairly decent amount. I was able to get under it and use adjustable wrenches for the inners, if you are cramped for space you might use a tool specifically for inner tie rods. I'll link one down below.

I watched so many videos to learn how to do it by far you’re the absolute easiest to do and learn from. Something different I’d have done is line up the old putter tie rod with the new installed ones along each other then line up the nuts to the threads. Great vid thank you!
Thabks for the comment! I always appreciate the feedback and I enjoy the positive ones lol
Aint nobody got time for torque specs lol LOVE IT
Haha!
How did this video not get more likes? Everything was covered and video angles were on point
I appreciate the comment! It's weird, some of my videos take off and others fall flat lol. Ne er have a clue which is going to do which
Tackling this on my g37x project tonight, huge thanks for the walkthrough. Major help!!👏🏼
You are most welcome! Let me know how it goes 😀
@@AGuyandHisProjects going great but just can’t get the outer tie rod to pop out, the threading is still locked in place. I guess that’s expected for 150k miles. But I’m smacking away at it😂
@@mattwoodley haha, smacking away is sometimes part of the fun
What I always do , if you took the old tie rods out still together I get the new ones put the side by side with the old ones and make sure they’re the same length and then install them together
That would work as well!
@@AGuyandHisProjectsit actually works better in my opinion. Counting turns is not always accurate. I have seen subtle differences in length of tie rods in different manufacturers. Also, I hate using pickle forks. Especially if you want to reuse the removed part because the fork destroys the boot. One or two good smacks on the knuckle with a heavy hammer and it just pops right out. Anyway, good video. Great camera work and clear and concise instructions.
Cheers.
Very good tutorial!
Thank you! Hope it helps!
My front end parts just showed up 15 minutes ago. So I’ll start the job sometime this afternoon. And yes this help with some gaining my berings. 🤙🤙👍
Heck yeah! It was very easy using the lift. Would be a small bit more challenging on ramps/jack stands but not overly difficult. Let me know how it goes! Don't forget the alignment ;)
@@AGuyandHisProjects yes sir. I got a place lined up that will do it for me. So for my thread count I’m going to mark it with white chalk and count the turns plus I’m hoping I can record it. (Just for fun).
@@AGuyandHisProjects why don’t you have him do it for content. (Wifes comment) I laughed so hard. She looking at me crazy 😜.
@@caleblandry2580 lol, you have no idea how many emails I get with people asking me to do it for them hahaha! I do my vehicles for fun, I'm not a mechanic. Don't get me wrong, I love helping people out...but you know.
@@AGuyandHisProjects your videos are more then enough brother. I’d rather do it my self. (She don’t understand).
Absolutely amazing tutorial!!!
Thanks for the feedback!
@@AGuyandHisProjects completely totaled my z, rebuilding it entirely and your channel has been a huge help! thank you very much
@@barnyard_fab sounds like a fun project. Too bad i don't have a lot more vids on the channel of it for you!
@@AGuyandHisProjects learning tons along the way, wish i had patience to make videos for others to learn from my mistakes. You're hugely appreciated
Great video thank you
You are welcome!
Hi, I got 03 350z. My power steering rack is leaking, but I used the zip tight it to prevent the leaks. Will this be a good idea to daily drives my car?
I can't tell you if it is a good idea or not honestly. I can say my preference is to take care of issues as soon as I can to avoid a small problem becoming a larger problem.
Do you recommend using OEM tie rods or nah? I saw Z1 motorsports had a cheaper version but idk if it’s worth it.
OEM is almost always superior to aftermarket. So if you can afford them then yes I would recommend that route personally
wil, it be safe to drive if my rack is bad same with the rods or will it just be uncomfy
Hard to say without seeing it. I can say though that your steering components are pretty important
would the car be stable enough to drive slowly to your local alignment/balancing shop? i live maybe 1 mile away from a firestone garage lol
At what point? As long as the components are all in place and you just need an alignment yeah I'd imagine you'd be fine. That's what I do
Is this the same idea for the rear inner/outter tie rods?
No tie rods on the rear, there are control arms though
What happens if you don’t turn the outer tie rods to the exact spot missing 2-3 turns? Will alignment still correct it?
That is correct, the alignment guy will adjust by turning the inner tie rod
@@AGuyandHisProjects ahh, I see thanks. I asked because thats what I did. I felt it was funny that one side was more than the other so I turned it to exactly the same as the other side. I saw the mechanic end up turning the inner tie rod as you said. Good to know. Thanks
It’s great video
Thanks!
what exactly is it leaking and do you need to put more fluid in?
Mine leaks from the rack and pinion. I have to add a bit of power steering fluid (ATF) every once in awhile
Can I re use the same ball joint for inner rod
Not sure exactly what you are asking
What were the symptoms you we’re having ? Or what was the result like?
They were starting to clunk a bit when turning into parking spots. They were just wearing out. These are typical wear items so nothing surprising
Typically how long does this take??
For me I can do each side in less than an hour. Depends on you and your tools mostly I think
So what do I do if i don’t know how many turns my my old ones were??? (Would help out ALOTTTTT)
Haha you'll have to grab a tape measure and even out the front and back of your tires best you can to get it to alignment shop
1:23 that's what she said
🤣
DO NOT LEAVE THE NUTT ON THE STUDD! I did like him and my ball joint was so loose it free spin with the nutt. I had to cut the seal on the ball joint and clamp it. Don’t do it to yourself!
Yeah, that can happen for sure!
