    This video shows how to replace inner and outer tie rods, and how to align the car by sight afterwards (you will need to take it in for an alignment though).
    This is shown on a 2006 Infiniti G35, but the process is the same on most vehicles.
    This is the same on the 350Z and G35 coupe as well.

    While spinning the nut off, the inner tie rod kept spinning with the nut and I couldn’t keep it straight since its so rusty. Would the inner tie rod being spun a couple turns out from before affect anything?? So far the test drive after installing the Outer tie rods went great and feels so much better than before.

    Great video man! I have a 2006 g35 with 100,800 miles on it and replaced the inner tie rod with your help from the video and I mushroomed the top threads hammering out the outer so just put in the new outer as well. Do you have to grease the outer after installing it?...

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 года назад

      A new piece should already be greased. If it is a serviceable one it will have the nipple with grease already coming out. A shop can top it off if you are not sure. If you have a grease gun you can also put it on to see if it’s full

    The original washer going back with the outer rod doesn't let the castle nut go all the way down to put the pin through. Had to use a thinner washer 👍🏻 or you can do without.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      Youll have some clunking, but mostly wobbly steering, bad tire wear (but other things will also cause that like worn steering box/rack, suspension, etc.) The best way to know is lift the front wheel off the ground with the car secured on a jack stand and push the wheel back and forth to see if it has wobble (as if you were turning it left and right). Just never be under the car

  • @stopher1971
    @stopher1971 Год назад

    There should be a washer underneath that castle nut. Otherwise it’ll dig into the aluminum knuckle itself and the pin will actually slide through one of the notches.

    Great video! the only thing I would note, in my experience the aftermarket Tie rod is a different length that the factory one (Many times but not always) so counting the times it takes to remove the outer tie rod end wont be very accurate. Best way to check is when the old are removed, match them up to the new. Then you will know for sure. If they are not the same size, reassemble the old based on the jam nut (in place to where it was before you broke it loose). Match it to the new and that is the closest you will get and will get you to a shop to have it aliened . Like button smashed!

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  4 года назад +1

      BuckeyeMCS Thanks. Yeah, this is mainly to get it acceptable enough to drive to an alignment shop only. Thanks for the comment

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  4 года назад +1

      DjXXS3RL It could be a ball joint on the knuckle in the same area where the tie rod mounts. You will need an alignment after the tie rods, so slowly drive it to the shop if you can’t find anything wrong and they can look around. You can try putting the truck in the air and rocking the actual wheel with your hands to see if it’s loose. At any rate, do what you feel is safe

    • @jbone1383
      @jbone1383 3 года назад +1

      You might have twisted the rack internals when you were breaking the inner tie rod loose or torquing it back down even. You're supposed to hold the rack w/ pliers when you're doing the inners but most people don't especially when you don't have a helper. An alignment shop may be able to adjust it for you & take the slack out of it if this is what happened but no guarantees

    • @DjXXS3RL
      @DjXXS3RL 3 года назад

      J Bone do you think it’s safe to drive ? Because after the alignment it still makes the noise . You Think something can break off?

    • @jbone1383
      @jbone1383 3 года назад +1

      @@DjXXS3RL it's hard to say from here without being able to hear it myself, I don't even know what u drive but if you've been driving it this long since your og post it's probly safe to drive still just isn't going to get any better by itself obviously. The only 2 things I can think of it might be that could potentially lead to an unsafe scenario is 1) the rack and pinion fails completely, this will be obvious as you won't be able to turn the wheel as easily, similar to if you lost power steering and 2) if it's a bad wheel bearing/hub assembly they can seperate if left on 4 too long after they fail causing the wheel to seperate from the vehicle (literally) so get those checked!
      Also, if u drive a fwd or awd/4x4 vehicle, you could just be hearing your outer cv joints in the front "clicking" b/c they need to be replaced or rebuilt but you can still drive on those for a really long time this way I have b4

    Very good video, however, also always make sure to grease your new parts, especially if they come with a grease fitting. The manufacturer rarely puts enough grease into these components.
