today's firmware (on both the controller and the 8BitDo universal dangle) make it possible to use this controller pretty much anywhere (Switch PlayStation Xbox you name it)
But out of the box it doesn't work with those devices unless you have the v2 dongle. Hopefully we'll see a firmware update to make the included dongle work with more devices.
@@GamersReckoning I think what they're saying is: Even if you just have the controller, you should be able to reflash the firmware and at least get the extra bluetooth bennies (which don't require a dongle)

@@GamersReckoning there might be a key combo to force it into 'Switch' mode? Mine haven't come in the mail yet, but I do know that 8bitdo's DIY boards have certain pre-config modes that you put the controller in as you turn it on, before you pair it. This might be how others have had success with it on the Switch (for example)
FYI - there is a FW update for the 2.4GHz dongle too, but it doesn't say in the log what it does and it does NOT appear to add compatibility with any new devices. I applied the 2.4GHz dongle update as well as the controller update just in case it improves compatibility between the controller and dongle itself with the new controller firmware.
I haven't dug mine out to check yet. I never bought the Neo Geo mini, but don't the mini's external controllers work on the ASP? If they do, and if this can work on a mini, would it not stand to reason that these would therefore work on the ASP? Again, never owned a mini and haven't tested the ASP yet. Just trying to think out loud...
This controller will work on an actual Neo Geo (or anything, really) if you use a BlueRetro adapter. You don't even need the beta FW update or any dongle for BlueRetro compatibility, just the controller in BT mode. In my use case I tried it on a "universal" BlueRetro adapter for multiple OEM consoles and on my MV1C specifically I paired it to a NeoBT BlueRetro adapter
the button with a Star on it is called Turbo, by holding it you can put the turbo function on your fire button so you play metal slug without having to mash
adds + and - buttons but not compatible with the switch....ridiculous. Really hoping a firmware update adds compatibility to the Switch...I have a ton of NEO GEO games on it
I understand but for me the plus and minus makes it look a bit much. If it they had to keep those on there then it would like nicer imo slimmed down a bit is all. It would be ok if there was no plus or minus. I honestly just wish those weren't on there at all.
I understand. Sadly the V2 Dongle is not part of this purchase and my review is a description of what is included in the box. Out of the box it does not work with the Switch yet.
@@GamersReckoning But it is totally worth the effort, that thing is amazing and the turbo button is so easy to use (hold the star button + the button you want). I completely killed a shump yesterday with that thing.
Just watched the vid and not a firmware for this but for a seperate 20 dollar dongle by 8bitdo that allows this to work with the Switch. What you get outta the box still doesn't work with the Switch.
@@kampru6867 Oh no I got the stock dongle with it but in Mad Pixels vid he is using the v2 dongle sold seperately. If the stock dongle is working now with the switch via an update that's rad! Appreciate you telling me. :)

Do you know if arcade stick pro support will be happening or not? That's why I want one.

Why would you want the start select so much smaller these are supposed to mimic the original controller (with a few modern touches like L & R) etc

It feels pretty good imo. I prefer a stick but this works if you don't have one.
It does work on Nintendo Switch after upgrading the firmware and buying their other dongle 2.

Too bad most of the Neo Geo games brought to Android aren't compatible with this controller.
Yeah this controller was such a let down in the compatiblity department. :(
