- Today was a proud day for us fellows at the East Lancashire Railway where we successfully started the engine on Class 14 - D9537 for the first time in over 20 years.
Following withdrawal from British Rail in 1968 D9537 went on to work with numerous other Class 14s for British Steel at Corby Steel Works until it was withdrawn from there in 1982. It then went on to begin a life in preservation until the mid 1990s where it was stopped with a few small faults, however the then owners couldn't afford to rectify these and the locomotive remained stored outside and exposed to the elements until a group of chaps from the East Lancashire Railway acquired D9537 and brought him to Bury in 2013.
It has been a long journey to return the locomotive, now christened "Eric" to service over the last 12 months but today's start up was a major step in achieving this and one step closer to having the locomotive running for the July Class 14 diesel event.
A big well done to all the guys involved & keep up the good work :)
I am in awe of those clever people that design and build those massive engines.
Excellent video, beautiful engine. Love that smooth running sound, perfectly tuned. Great work.
Thank you Charles, much appreciated.
Fantastic to see that. One of the locos I have yet to see at ELR.
Thanks Philip, it's a nice little engine & I am proud to have been involved with it.
@@Phil6219 Great to hear that.
The teddybear barks to life, coughing, gobbing, and chuffing like a 40 a day grandad
Hehe yeah, almost old enough to be a grandad too ;)

When the turbo chirps into life at 01:52 . Great job 🖒
the best work is restore the locos,,not abandoned. These men sure are all mechanics and may be very happy for his work. Congratulatiopns....daniel,,,,,,,Argentine.
well done guys love her big engines good condition for her age
Something very satisfying about these Paxman engines.....
Very true. When you think how poor they were in the 1960s in the Claytons, yet so brilliant in the likes of the 14s, and of course the Paxman Valenta in the HSTs.
great work ..by an amazing team
Many thanks bud
Fumication of the building was in full swing when Health and Safety arrived for the inspection.
Haha yeah, incidentally we are not allowed to start D7076 inside the shed as it has prompted too many calls to the Fire Brigade from passing motorists...
Nice one Phil (must have missed this one) cheers Steve ..

hello Phil6219 why not startup class 14 D9537 engine from the class 14 D9537 cab and and hold down class 14 D9537 start button in the cab instead on the class 14 D9537 Engine
Hi, from what I can remember the engine hadn't been wired up to the cab controls yet at this part of the restoration so we were forced to use the local controls.
