Dean Forest Railway - 'Class 14 Running Day' 20/08/2022

Insuffiecient rainfall has forced the hand of the Dean Forest Railway to plough on with diesel traction for the time being, in place of their regular steam service. Though when that traction takes the form of a Class 14 'Teddy Bear', it's hard to complain.
The Swindon Type 1's were once a familiar sight in the Forest of Dean in their service lives. Now one of two Class 14's based on the Dean Forest Railway, D9521 took up the reigns to work services over the 4 & 1/2 mile heritage line in its former stomping ground.

Love the Teddy bears, used to love two of them push-pulling on the Nene Valley Railway, they would fly around and their acceleration is immense.

They are wonderful if underrated engines. Always found them a good workhorse.

If it's wasn't for the closing of Corby steel work's and the closing of ashington coalmine north east alot of these locos would not have survived a little bit of know-how for you my husband worked with the driver. Who had Corby steel work buy these locos from HULL dairycoats when they were stored there, he was on holiday there at the time they came up for sale, my husband was a shunter at BSC Corby steelworks,

Hi Mathew, I went yesterday to catch this loco as I was passing nearby. Not till I got back and edited my video ,I realised we found the same locations. You were lucky and got her pulling a rack of coaches. She only had the one coach and brake van for my visit . Nice video from a nice railway 👍🏻

Though I have a preference for them in BR Green, there's so many of them preserved in the livery, it was a nice change to see one in blue.
