The class 17s didn't have Rolls Royc Power units, they had Clayton Engines mounted on their side. Initally the 14s had a Paxman, but some of the later locos gained a Rolls Royce Power unit.
Clayton never made their own engines only EE built their own (other than modern imports like EMD & GE), everyone else bought engines from other manufacturers e.g. Sulzer, Mirrlees, Paxman, MAN.

Class 17s D8586-D8587, each had a pair of Rolls Royce Type D 450 hp (340 kW) engines from new :)
The usual engines in 17's where Paxman 6ZHXL 6 cylinder except the 2 with Paxman engines, class 14's had Paxman 6YJXL (ventura) except this one.
