Very much a bonus I never considered haha tbh now that I've had a good look at the colour on the M2, I probs will appreciate it more on the other models now, opinion totally changed!
Grabbed an SPY M2 a few weeks ago. Coming from a hyperblue STI, the vibrancy is stunning and blends around the car so well. Going to be hard-pressed to ever fall into the dull greys and blacks every other car uses these days, and like you said easier to find your car in the lot!
I totally agree with you that colour is a personal choice. For me, black wheels are my least favourite. I consider the wheels to be like the jewelry of the car. In black they just look like black holes. I think that the body colours that look good are somewhat dependent on the wheel choice. Since you like black wheels, I can see why you rank some of the colours as your least favorite, but it’s surprising how much better they look with either the new silver wheels or the bi-colour wheels. In general I like colours that contrast well with the black trim. As the colours get darker the trim blends in and hides the design elements of the car.
Aye I dunno why I'm drawn so hard to black wheels, possibly some distant childhood obsession with some car that I can't even remember now but for some reason I just get drawn to them. Totally agree that the detail of the wheel can get lost in black though, but that aesthetic just works for me. Funny that though cos I'm the complete opposite, if by trim you mean the window surrounds etc then I prefer to see those parts of the trim blend in and go unnoticed, they're not really parts of the car that I'd want to stand out. Things like the diffuser/splitters etc then yea fair enough but Grigio is light enough for those to still be very much visible and prominent in daylight at least. With sapphire black then yea pretty much everything blends in, but the entire car as a package just had this presence and aura to it which made it properly bad ass. But yea it's good they've got this much customisation so everyone can tailor it to what they prefer!
My gripe is that I love Grigio Telesto, but to pay $3,000 USD extra for a “grey” color to me does not ring the bell. Obviously this is just my way of thinking and opinion but of course Grigio is a beautiful color!
Yea 100% understandable! I'd have said the exact same thing a few years ago! That's the beauty of the individual paints, they're totally optional and there to take if they strike a chord with someone!
I choose car colors according to what shows dust the least. Dark colors are beautiful but drive the car around the block and there’s dust showing all over the car. On my 2024 M2, I chose Brooklyn Gray since it’s light but in person the gray shows a bit of blue and even a bit of red…very subtle. On a light car, you need non-black wheels because the black wheels disappear into the car from a distance. The bi-chrome wheels are the best, especially for Brooklyn Gray, as they outline the wheels and blend into the gray. So for me, it’s Brooklyn Gray with chrome outline wheels…no dust showing. I never worry about the car getting dirty as it only goes out in good weather. The only other color I would consider is silver but the M2 doesn’t come in that color.
Hey Neil, once again a great video as we spoke earlier on the delivery of your M2! Still trying to figure out color but this helps so much with your input and color options on the screen.
Thanks! Like I say it's all very subjective, I didn't say this in the video but personally even though I've ranked Grigio as no.1 for me, I don't think it's the colour that suits the M2 the most... it's just my favourite because of a historical obsession with grigio! I think Sao Paolo would probably be the biggest head turner out of all the colours, but it depends what you're looking for... are you looking to impress other people or have something you think is best for you!
Awesome colour! They have one at my local dealer at the moment with the full carbon kit on, it really does look beautiful! Mind you, the Voodoo Blue that the M2 comes in looks very close to Laguna Seca!
@ yeah if it wasn’t such a pricy option I def would have went voodoo but once you start adding that color and carbon buckets you’re now in m3 pricing so I had to pick and choose haha, went sport seats zandvoort blue but carbon roof black rims
The frozen colors really accentuate the M2's curves. The Java green is sick too and really stands out. I prefer the silver rims to me the black rims don't stand out enough and are rather bland. Just my 2 cents great video mate.
Thanks man! Yea its good they give us all these options so people can choose what they like! Tbh in bright daylight the gloss in the black wheels keeps the detail quite visible, but it can minimise it in other light so agree on that. They don't show the brake dust as much which is a positive I guess haha
I personally got a Grigio Telesto with silver wheels on order. After seeing all the individual colors now, I am glad I didn't go with voodoo (way too saturated) or fire red (dull and flat). Java has pleasantly surprised me though, and since I am in my mid twenties, it would have been a viable option. But to me, understatement is King :-) At first, I felt like the grey on Grigio Telesto was slightly too light for my liking, but the silver wheels almost seem white in contrast, so I think it works wonderfully. At my time of ordering it was also the only combination there were actual pictures of, I pretty much ordered exactly the press model. Looking to get HAS, the Alpha-N CSL boot lid and a front lip, the latter two in matching Grigio Telesto paint. Looking forward to more videos on here! Greetings from Germany
Heyyyy! Good choice! Yea I saw the press car videos, it's hard to tell what's going on with them cos you don't know if these youtube channels are putting LUTs onto their footage or whatever grading/correction is going on. But you picked a good one, when does it arrive?
@@NeilCrossy I ordered late August, my salesman initially said it was gonna be end of december / january, but it seems like I barely missed the production cycle, got pushed back to end of march delivery
@@levim.3505 OUCH! 7-8 months!? I envy and admire your patience, I just could never wait that long for a new car to arrive. Once I've gone through all the mental gymnastics of deciding I want a new car, which one to get, I want it now or very soon. Waiting that long gives me time to talk myself out of it! This is another reason why I was so annoyed at them doing a LCI so quickly, can you imagine waiting until March for delivery and then 1-2 months later they announce another LCI with the next one being even more different and arguably better?! I'd be so angry! But that's possibly just me 😂
I have an M2 in skyscraper grey on the way. In certain lighting the car looks absolutely amazing. But I agree Grigio telesto is one of the top 3 best colors on the car!
Me personally it's not my cup of tea maybe it was £595 I wouldn't pay 2/3grand but having said that the M2 looks great in any colour enjoy check out my new M2 on nicholasdrivingacademy 👍
First, I really enjoyed your disclaimer at the beginning of the video; ridiculous that you'd need to add that, but still extremely appropriate, unfortunately. As far your ranking of the available colors, I honestly thought it was spot on. I currently own a '22 M240i (that I ordered in early 2022 before the M2 was available) in Sapphire Black, and it's easily the most beautiful black paint I've had on a vehicle. Black is also my favorite color, but now after having owned four black cars in succession, I'm ready for a change, which is how I found this video. Again, I agree, and feel the all-black wheels are the only option to go with, so I'm pairing them with every color, too. Here's my quick opinion on the colors: Portimao Blue is an awesome color, but it's too available on the other models to be "special", which also applies to Skyscraper Grey (very boring color, IMO, definitely not suited to a two-door sport coupe), and Vegas Red (which is an absolutely gorgeous color, but I think suits one of the more luxury-focused models, and not a M-car). Twilight Purple is also extremely cool, and definitely a unique color, BUT, living in the United States, there are Dodge Chargers and Challengers everywhere that are purple, so I think it would feel strange driving a purple BMW every day. Voodoo Blue is also very, very cool, and I strongly considered this as an option, but you actually pointed out something very important: It's a Toyota color. You can also get it on a Honda Civic. As silly as it is, that alone disqualifies it for a M-color, IMO. Personally, I don't like any of the Frozen, or "matte", colors. They're difficult to maintain, and I just prefer the traditional glossy, deep paint look. Java Green is AWESOME! Truly gorgeous, and I don't mind at all that it's "loud"; I think that's appropriate for a M-car, or, even more so, an exotic sports car. Having said that, I don't think I would love it enough to pay an additional $3000 to live with it every day. The same goes for Grigio Telesto, which when I first saw it, thought it was just a different Brooklyn Grey (which I think looks fantastic, but it's also a VERY generic color these days, as you also mentioned), but if you see it in person you'll immediately understand why it's still a Lamborghini color, and why you're paying $3000 for it. Still, it's....just grey, and not very exciting for a M-car, IMO. At least you can tell people that it's a Lamborghini color, and then they'll say, "Oooooo!" XD Down to the non-metallic, solid colors, which are actually my favorites: Alpine White is beautiful, but very boring. Certainly a traditional M-car color (if not THE M-car color), but just so, so plain and passionless. Alpine White REQUIRES the M Performance decals, and at least some sort of body kit. Zandvoort Blue: BEAUTIFUL! I love this color so much, but....BUT...it reminds people of a Hyundai, which eliminates it from the list, sadly. Finally, the winner: Sao Paulo Yellow! As polarizing as it may be, this is the new M-color. You can get it as an individual color on a few of the other non-M high-end models, but it's fairly exclusive to this generation of M-cars. As you pointed out, when you see it in person on the car, it looks absolutely incredible, ESPECIALLY when you add the M Performance decals and carbon fiber parts. Despite my turning 45 next year, I don't mind at all driving a "flashy" vehicle, especially when it's a M2, which, let's be honest, is already very much a "Look at me!" car. So, why not get a ridiculous color as well? XD Sao Paulo Yellow (plus M Performance decals and rear spoiler), with black wheels, blue calipers, carbon roof, and the tri-color M-Highlight seats, is going to be the spec I order next Spring. .....until I watch another video and decide to switch back to the Sapphire Black with red-highlight interior instead XD
Amazing mate, love that, you are the only person to mostly agree with my thoughts so far haha but if Grigio wasn't available, I definitely would have gone for Sapphire black with the vernasca interior... and then I'd have 4 years of buyers remorse after seeing the Sao Paolo yellow haha You're right there's just something about that colour on the M2, it's so right for it. But yea that disclaimer haha I've been a youtuber (on a different channel) for 11 years so I'm very much aware of how people can be! Good luck waiting it out til Spring next year, hopefully they don't do another LCI as quickly as this one came around!
I agree with what you’re saying but wanted to clarify, Grigio telesto is a beauty of a color and I’m considering getting it also. But it’s also a “Toyota” color, search up Toyota “Underground” color, yes it doesn’t have the same name but my point is all of these manufacturers are producing all sorts of greys especially, one is bound to end up having the same or similar color to the BMW color palette, just the name of the game.
@@B-5102 It's not a Toyota colour, it does look very similar shade to Toyota Underground in a lot of photos but it isn't the same paint. BMW have done a deal with Lamborghini to license that actual paint, obviously some people won't care and grey is grey to them, but there's plenty of people who do value that. I guess it's just like white trade paint from B&Q vs something like Wevet White from Farrow & Ball, plenty people just see white is white, others are prepared to pay 3-4x for Farrow & Ball and still have white. Me, I'm not really ashamed of saying that I was prepared to pay 3-4k for Telesto exactly because it's sourced from Lamborghini, nobody else on the road knows that but I do, and I bought it for me to enjoy.
@@NeilCrossy for sure I agree with what you said because I never claimed that’s it’s a Toyota color which is why I put apostrophes (“), my point was that it’s similar but I never claimed it’s the same. Indeed it is a very unique and beautiful color, my point was that many manufacturers are producing lots of grey colors to look like the higher end ones from manufacturers such as BMW, or Lamborghini.
I find seeing in person is the only way. For my F80, Silverstone was not in the running at all from photo's, then I saw one in the flesh. For my G81, Dravit grey was easy to ignore from pictures and videos, in the flesh I knew instantly it was the one for me.
Enjoying 15 months of ownership of a manual zandvoort blue with carbon pack , carbon front air duck, and blue calipers. The color is likable by many, as i am told. As for the new shades i thought of purple but java green catches my eye and shows the lines of the car nicely🤔
Aye the individual colours are always a rare sight on the roads as not many people feel OK paying that much for a different paint, I don't blame them either, it can make more sense to put that money towards the carbon buckets instead! But yours sounds lush, the full carbon pack looks outstanding!
Good we can all agree colours are subjective because I am way off what you like! No longer available but Toronto Red used is a wonderful colour. I have a Voodoo Blue manual in order, I would say it is an Audi/Porsche colour, as it is much deeper than Toyota blue. By the way, check out M2 Owners in the UK, I am organising a meet at The Motorist is Leeds when mine arrives and I’d love to see the colour on yours, so you are invited. Rob MJ
Yea other manufacturers have used Voodoo blue but Toyota first created and used it back in 2007. Whether BMW have changed it slightly I dunno, but then what would be the point in giving it the same name if it becomes a different shade? But yea definitely all subjective 😂I knew my list would be very different to other peoples! Will definitely check out the owners club, is there a website or forum link or is it just a Facebook page?
I've got a Grigio Telesto F82 Comp and it looks fantastic (I've also been told there aren't many in the UK). I'm looking at upgrading to the LCI G82 next year but will probably option San Marino Blue. My brother has it on his F82 Comp and it looks incredible.
What the actual fuck though, I've never been and looked at the M config page for the G82... there must be over 200 individual colours to chose from!?!?! How did we only get 4 for the M2?! Hahaha I don't think I could ever pick one out from that list, that's insane!
Ive ordered an M2 LCI in Portimao Blue Metallic. The thing that sold me was seeing it outside in the sunlight. Being metallic it has an awesome purple tinge to it. I also love Java Green. Black is always at the bottom for me just in terms of caring for it.
Ahhh interesting, I haven't seen the purple flake in Portamao... definitely wasn't visible in the youtube videos I've seen so far, maybe I'll change my mind once they start hitting the roads! Black is one of those colours which is a nightmare to look after, but at the same time it can look unreal after a hardcore detailing session, just doesn't last that long! Where I live there seems to always be this fucking constant mini sand storm which coats the cars in a fine layer of dust, possibly from a new build site up the road but yea it's a pain for keeping cars clean!
Awesome vid. So informative despite the fact in the end doubt still remains, as it should… I usually like later the color I didn’t choose, if you know what I mean. Agree on light colors with carbon parts ou black on black… Cheers from Brasil.
Yea you sometimes regret choosing and wish you'd picked something else instead, fortunately I don't feel that way as I love the Grigio that much. If I'd gone for black I probably would have wished I'd gone for Grigio!
Agree in general. Your top two could go either way. I am getting a Sapphire Black with black spoke wheels but Grigio Telesto and Frozen Gray are nice too. For the Vegas red I thought the previous Toronto Red was better (more of sporty bold primary red).
Apparently my preferences differ to most peoples but for me, Zandvoort and black wheels or bi-colour, I really don't like bright silver wheels on any car. Like this... this is UNREAL to me usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202411086073308?quoteref=03e3c29f-9d0e-43a2-b3ed-d326258a6a30 Also look spectacular with bi-colour but the black wins for me usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202410054868333?quoteref=7323d578-ad39-45f8-b310-4aab34c5012d
I think all the colors work with the right wheel choice. The fact that you say " all black wheels" says a lot. Most peeps think they are played out but personally I believe it's okay sometimes. Some colors look great in full sun and some better at night. A lot to consider.
Yea they do, the people at BMW know exactly what they're doing when they put the colours out so they do all work... just some more so than others on a personal level but you can't really spec an ugly one! Even white with silver wheels isn't going to look terrible, just not the best for me in terms of maximising the presence of the car! But yea it's crazy how some colours come alive in different conditions, one of the best I've seen was Sakhir Orange II on the F8X cars in direct sunlight, that was spectacular.
I've got almost 30 years on you and love the Java & Sao Paulo but like you don't I can live with it forever. Retired from Porsche Cars N.A from over 35 years and being around the 911GT3 Skittle colors gives me the urge but......lol. Huge racing & F1 fan so the Zandvoort Blue has some racing heritage and I think with carbon bits as you indicated is safe but different color.
Huge F1 fan too, they name quite a few of the colours after race tracks like Yas Marina blue and Sakhir Orange from the F generation, Interlagos blue, Imola red, Silverstone etc but yea the carbon parts do look amazing it's just getting them from BMW will set you back several thousand! Not sure I can justify that tbh. Aftermarket versions exist but still thousands!
Yea the blue calipers would have looked pretty good to be fair, my pre-order had red already built so didn't have much of a choice and it wasn't something I was that arsed about but yea blue would look class
In an era where you can get a murdered-out Volvo from factory, Black wheels have lost their individuality. That said, I own a C63 AMG Edition 507 with Black wheels, but I will no longer get them as a factory option. They're to played-out!
They are but I think we're at a point now where almost everything is played out, right? What can be done now that hasn't already been done by every other manufacturer? I guess that's a solution for people who get paid very well to solve! My logic was that the silver wheels are... silver wheels, it doesn't get much more common than that, and the bi-colour do have a nice look to them but my last 2 BMWs also had bi-colour wheels, so murdered out is a new thing for me! That M4 I had looked murdered out but the 666M are technically bi-colour, the face is a dark diamond cut with an anthracite internal finish. Jealous of that C63 though, I always wanted that model, they sound unreal!
Yea Porsche used a variant of it but Toyota created and first introduced it back in 2007-2009 according to my sources... edit, just realised I've replied to you twice saying the same thing 😂
@@SeaandSpeedWatches Toyota first used it in 2003 on a FJ Cruiser concept at the Detroit motor show, I can't see any data about it being used anywhere near that by Porsche? Even this Porsche specialised paint site cites it as being used by Porsche from 2016-2018 www.rennbow.org/porsche-colors/Voodoo%20Blue It's really not important tho lol but feel free to fact check that and I'll correct me if you can find a good source, I'll add a note to the video as a correction
Mines the auto. I've hit that point in life where I just don't want to be clutch dipping when I'm driving! And I won't be racing it about so auto makes sense for me. Mind you, the gearbox is noticably worse than the DCT, not sure why they stopped the DCT
Ive got Sao Paolo Yellow on my X4 Comp for 2 years and absolutely love it. Never had a negative comment and its easy to find in a car park D

For my G81, Dravit grey was easy to ignore from pictures and videos, in the flesh I knew instantly it was the one for me.
got the portimao blue and its a lovely colour.
So informative despite the fact in the end doubt still remains, as it should…
I usually like later the color I didn’t choose, if you know what I mean.
Agree on light colors with carbon parts ou black on black…
Cheers from Brasil.
I'm deciding between Skyscraper grey with black rims or Zandvroot blue with silver rims... any thoughts?
Apparently my preferences differ to most peoples but for me, Zandvoort and black wheels or bi-colour, I really don't like bright silver wheels on any car.
Like this... this is UNREAL to me usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202411086073308?quoteref=03e3c29f-9d0e-43a2-b3ed-d326258a6a30
Also look spectacular with bi-colour but the black wins for me usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202410054868333?quoteref=7323d578-ad39-45f8-b310-4aab34c5012d
1 portimao blue 2 Toronto Red 3 voodoo blue 4 portimao frozen 5 Grigio 6 spahire black 7 fire red
Solid list, the Toronto Red isn't available any more for the new 2025 model which is why I didn't include it in this list!
Yes Grigio Telesto. But the blue calipers
Voodoo Blue is a Porsche Exclusive colour says Google!
Yea Porsche used a variant of it but Toyota created and first introduced it back in 2007-2009 according to my sources... edit, just realised I've replied to you twice saying the same thing 😂
Actually if you check the history, Voodoo was first introduced by Porsche and not Toyota.
@@SeaandSpeedWatches Toyota first used it in 2003 on a FJ Cruiser concept at the Detroit motor show, I can't see any data about it being used anywhere near that by Porsche?
Even this Porsche specialised paint site cites it as being used by Porsche from 2016-2018 www.rennbow.org/porsche-colors/Voodoo%20Blue
It's really not important tho lol but feel free to fact check that and I'll correct me if you can find a good source, I'll add a note to the video as a correction
Manual or Auto
Mines the auto. I've hit that point in life where I just don't want to be clutch dipping when I'm driving! And I won't be racing it about so auto makes sense for me. Mind you, the gearbox is noticably worse than the DCT, not sure why they stopped the DCT
Black? Come on. Black technically is not even a color 😃
black works on some cars better than others, works on this one imo
Bought the portimao Blue in manual.
Congrats! The blue does appear to be a very popular colour, looking forward to seeing them out and about!
