Lmaoo, I think the rockstar devs could do a better job than BMW did
I'm really glad that Toyota and BMW could trade efforts to build sports cars. Toyota got a chassis and powertrain from the BMW Z4, and BMW was able to get styling from the Scion TC.
Massively underrated comment
😅😂🤣
Beautiful comment!
BMW learned what quality control was from Toyota, that was the real important part of the new supra. People crap on it so much, but even some BMW engineers have talked about how shocked they were at Toyota's controls.
@@topshelfdustin3300 interesting, will look into that. Maybe the Supra will be the most reliable BMW? I'm not saying they're bad, but BMW could use some long term QC improvements.
@@mofayer yeah I agree, and honestly, I'm waiting to hear more about the supra's reliability. As a BMW owner, I'm not upset with my car's issues, but I've had an unexpected 600+ dollar repair I wasn't expecting. And I'm just now at 50k miles on it. I'll never do run flats again though! I hate them with the passion of 1,000 suns!
What I like most about the new M2 is how good it makes the old one look.
@@user-rb1yf4he9q amazing and also has 550+ bhp.
Agreed
@@purwantiallan5089 what has 550+ hp? a tuned last gen m2 ?
Literally. It's like that with all their new vehicles now
100 percent
its truly incredible how they engineered a fairly small car to be nearly 2 tonnes
Crazy that it’s as big as an E46 and heavier.
@@kellinpatler I'd expect it to be heavier than a nearly 20 year old car, but 2 tons is ridiculous. The only manufacturer that has kept their car's weight in check is Mazda with their miata. It's incredible what you can do when you don't need your seat to electronically move in 25 different ways at an agonizingly slow pace in the name of "luxury"
Gotta be a double-wall unibody, with liquid lead poured into it.
Can you option this car to have a regular speedometer and rev counter and not have biblically retarded looking iPads glued to the dash instead?
@@mmtot biblically retarded looking? I can't even follow that.

Front end looks like it's Lego block assembled
I guess the back does too
When we first saw a glimpse of that front fascia, I honestly thought there is no way that is really it. But I guess with what happened before with the controversial M3/M4 I shouldn't be surprised. The weight is really a shame although I'm sure it's still entertaining to drive at times.
It looks like a really terrible kit car. Fugliest M car I've seen.
@@maopao101bingo. BMW’s new designer needs to get fired
Lego may sue you for this comparison. 😊
Base 2023 Mustang GT curb weight 3705lbs (1680kgs). Base 2023 Camaro 1SS curb weight is 3685lbs (1671kgs). The base curb weight of this M2 is 3814lbs (1730kgs).
How in the hell did that happen?
Base camaro v8 is 1lt and I believe it weights around 3630 lbs in manual form lol
It called going backwards
I was about to respond by suggesting it was AWD but a quick Google search said no it isn't. Good question
BMW has been doing that recently. Styling has been going backwards, while performance and interior quality has improved. Very odd if you ask me.
Tech and sound deadening.
As a German and long years BMW driver until 2017 I LOVE how you ripped BMW's design team apart. They deserve it. They deserve to get their vacation time taken away so that they can go study design again in their free time! Dude. /rant over
This is a threat. You may now never stop making car reviews. Ever. We will find you.
Yea guys you're whole crew 😂
@Mike Wozawski i got my guys. Dez and troy. You dont want them to combine. Trust me.
@@Edgycoo haha throttle house doesn't understand the cult they have created like it or not
@M A would you say that if you combined them, they'd 'destroy' by any chance? 😟
That’s a miserable thing to tell someone. They are human beings
Laughed soooo hard when Thomas put the tie on and went off on the design 😂
Don't expect that from the straight pipes when they review the car. They play it safe because they think they will lose access to car reviews.
@@Unicornpirate We don't talk about the straight pipes over here
the part we all been waiting for. i was like wtf...wondering if its just me who thinks its ugly, lol
I literally laughed out loud and that is not happening often even with TH videos. Car is seriously ugly AND fat as f*uck. SHAME!
Now we shall wait and see how Bmw take on the criticism. TH ravaged the Roma and the usually uptight Ferrari still send cars for review, so i hope Bmw is at least as open minded.
Man that old M2 looks so freaking good! 16:17
2015 - 2019 M series were the most beautiful cars to exist in my opinion
Yet, the comments at the time looked exactly the same.
I’ll be honest: I never liked it that much :\
Bmw is doing terrible designs compared with the previous gens, those old ones are so great

I'm not surprised about James' assesment: The S58's max. torque starts 500 rpms later and I'm pretty certain the gearing of the manual gearbox has not become any shorter. As usual: Brilliant review.

The M1 was fugly as hell. MUCH worse than this M2 or even the M4. Fans still defended it.
@@batape1965 which car are you talking about the real M1? Because that’s a legendary middle motor car from 40 years ago!
And that car is definitely not ugly, but absolutely beautiful!
If you’re talking about a 135i/140i M series name em correctly!
The most beautiful 1 series is the original 135i M coupe e82!
3 series looks great don’t know what you’re talking about
Don't you mean "Thomas"? I'm assuming you're referring to the voice-over they did at the end of the video, pls correct me if I'm wrong/missing something here.
I feel like there's no difference now between the M2/M3/M4 now. They all are using the same engine, and you could likely tune the engine to be at the same as the M3 and M4, so what differentiates the M2 from the M3 and M4? The M4 is going for a lot more than the M2, is that price difference worth it?
I agree. There needs to be a big difference between the line up. It’s not worth buying a m4 if u could just tune a m2 and it’ll be the same. Still better than a 2L 4cyl tho 😂
And all of them almost weigh the same 😅
Xdrive is the only true difference. Engine, platform, weight, trans, etc are all similar
they should've at least tried to make the M2 lightweight to differentiate it, but now it weighs as much as an R35 GTR
needs a v8 in the m4
A Jackson Pollock painting went to town on itself… absolutely cracked me up 😂😂. The whole bleeping bit was masterful. Sticking it to the Germans. Well done and an keep up the great reviews. 14:01
i love it. it looks so muscular
That 4th gear pull is about on pace with my diesel Fiesta lol.
It was brutal! Sure, of course if you want to accelerate hard it's the wrong gear, but even so...
He literally should’ve been in 2nd gear at that speed, I don’t know why he is driving improperly. Nobody actually drives/races like that so it was an irrelevant data point.
Yeah in your dreams 😂 anyway the 4th gear was way to high for the speed he was driving
@@jacobsechler1515 nobody races like that (I'd hope) but plenty people will drive in 4th at that speed of course, then traffic speeds up and they may think it'll accelerate a bit. And it really, really didn't.
@@jacobsechler1515 he was doing that to make a point which you obviously missed.
I really hate that digital cluster.. I miss analog gauges :^( Great video!
Same! It's horrid
Agreed. What an eyesore. Awful
It’s such a lazy design too. It just one big ass screen all the way across the dash. Honestly that turns me off more than the exterior looks.
I can live with digital gauge clusters. What I don't like is that they just propped a massive screen in front of your vision
Just walk outside to you corolla and you'll see them again.
Just wanted to say I love your channel. High quality production and very entertaining! Keep up the great work, guys!
This M2 looks like a Pig from Angry Birds.
How dare you insult the pigs like that
I think the ct4 Blackwing is now the car to get at this price range if you need back seats
100%, such a shame bmw did this
the new M2 weighs about as much as the CT4 Blackwing somehow...might as well get 4 doors
RS3 is a better all arounder, and way faster in a dig race!
yup.
@@germanengineering204 I love the RS3 and it’s 5 cylinder is one of my favorite engines. I feel like the back seat is too small to really consider it usable and if you’ve ever driven one it’s more video game speed (point and shoot). It lacks the feel that the old M2 and Blackwing have.
8:50 ish, Thomas had me laughing to tears when he was almost casually slipping in a “they fucked up” and then coming out instead with a more polite “they rounded out the edges”. Real gem moment for me.
👍👍👍👍👍
I hope they realize how much ignition timing, especially with a turbo charged car, that the tune was pulling out to keep it from detonating when you went WOT in 4th gear at like 2k rpm. It was probably knocking even though it was most likely seeing 0-5°, maybe even - ° timing when you did that so it wouldn't knock. We (HalferLand Performance) specialize in the Honda J-series engines and we get this a ton with new tuning customer we see bogging the engine down in low rpm. Again to get it not to knock/detonate at such bogged, low rpm high loads as you did means we have to pull a TONNNNN of timing to keep it safe. Why would you ever go wot in 4th gear at 2k rpm..... DOWNSHIFT INTO YOUR DAMN POWER BAND!!!
"Wakes the M2 up like an ice bucket to the scrotum" don't think I've ever winced and laughed at the same time before 😂😂😂
The 2023 BMW M2 looked like M3 GTR at the back.
I just dont like the way it looks, No amount of value or performance is going to compensate for the facrt that it looks like a blowfish from the front and back...
BMW: What makes the M2 fun and appealing to enthusiasts?
Enthusiast: Lightweight, shorter wheel base than the rest of the lineup, fun to drive.
BMW: Got it, same wheelbase as M4 then, and nowhere near as fun to drive. Nailed it!
Don't forget to pack it with a bunch of obnoxious tech features that add complexity and weight. I can roll my own windows down, thank you very much.
I don’t know what they was thinking theres barley any difference between all the m2 and m3/m4 since now they both share the same exact engine n transmission
Every other review of this car has said the m2 is more fun to drive than it's bigger brother the m4, did they get a defective model or something..strange how their views can be the polar opposite of everyone else.
@@chamaldealwis9 probably because they ruined the other M models with massive weight gains, extraneous tech, and heinous looks as well. The comparisons in this video were almost all in reference to the previous model which was the dynamically superior car hands down.
Exactly. Take the best car in the BMW lineup and make it like every other BMW.
i drive the 2023 M3 manual i do have to agree, one of my main complaints is how rather soft the clutch and stick feels. yes, for daily driving it is nice, but when im on the track it doesn't feel as snappy as id like for it to be. my previous car was the type r so i was very accustomed to a more aggressive clutch and manual feel. i expected the M3 to have a similar feel but i was rather disappointed. i did a slide at one point when driving on the track and when downshifting to second gear to gain speed again it locked out on me for a sec, unsure if it was my error but it did catch me off guard. the new screen is beautiful but has its major share of issues. when driven on the track, it tends to cut in and out of apple carplay to then just not work at all when reaching higher speeds. and on casual driving it the heads up display will work for the most part but there are times i would have to turn off the car and turn it back on to get it to work properly. its my first and only bmw i've driven and owned so i cant compare how it is to previous models, but overall i am happy and in love with the car, it did amazing on the track and was at the end of the day i was very satisfied with how the car drove, it's definitely a heavier car which took some getting used to after coming from a type r but it is still an amazing car at the end of the day.
This quality and review is unmatched... always killing it

“2 Fat 2 Be Furious” I love it
Throttle house has come so far. The reviews yall do today are top notch. Keep up the great work! Yall's 240i video is still one of my favorites.
I second that. The camera views, editing, and production quality improving every year.
Yall is something ppl say, but it not mean to be written unless you are trying to sound like a complete __________.
I saw this car in a light blue and I think 🤔 it looks great in person
The front end looks like a Lego car. The rear looks has a Pokémon face.
I drove the previous-gen M240i with a sunroof, and as someone who hasn't historically cared for sunroofs, that was the first car where I actually really liked it, because it made a fishbowly cabin that much more fishbowly. The car just let in so much light, and I could see everywhere. It was a weird thing to takeaway, but I really liked it. I get that it takes away from performance and whatnot, but.... as a fun daily, I'd spec it.
I drive the same gen m240 and 100% agree. I get upset if somebody even closes the shade
I drive this gen 230 w/ the sunroof. I keep the shade closed 95% of the time. I'm gonna try opening it up and see what the fuss is about. thanks
I have a previous gen M240i, (in blue of course) with sunroof, and I like it. If you don't want extra light, you can just close the shade, so it's the best of both worlds really. It's not a lightweight track car, so you really wouldn't notice the extra few pounds, and there's more than enough power to handle that anyway. Summer night driving with the sunroof fully open is also very nice.
BMW sunroofs are actually really nice. They work, don’t leak, and most importantly, are placed in the right position to make it really nice to have.
Can someone explain what the drawback of a sunroof is? Other than potentially leaking water driving with natural light coming in is so nice.
“Like a bucket of ice water to the scrotum” is my new favorite saying

the old M2 was good looking but semi bland anyway, don't see what you're all on about.
@@valxyrie6113 the m2 was bland, but compared to *this*, it's a work of art. It just seems like their design just keeps getting worse. Have you seen the xm?
@@2007ghettonissanaltima all i'm going to say is, whether you like it or not, BMW didn't reach their initial greatness by being bland and indifferent
And the best BMW can do is "politely" threaten to blacklist reviewers who have negative opinions. They need to piss off. Even if they have a whole army of scumbag influencers that'll say whatever you want for a dime, it's OBJECTIVELY ugly. Nothing will change that.
It’s just such a shame that BMW seems as though they’re forgetting what makes a good sports car fun
I feel like they purposely made it underperform so the m3 and m4 don’t look like a bad financial decision. But I do feel like when the competition version and possibly after that a cs version. Then we will be getting the full fat m modifications in a small package we all want.
Couldn't have described the BMW looks better myself! Thank you for your (mostly) uncensored review!
Thomas has a point, I remember Chris Harris m2 competition video when he said there's a spikyness and danger about the M2 and that's what he loves about it.i also remember Jeremy Clarkson saying that it's so simple and doesn't have complicated tech and it's lovely for it. No need for the LWB and fancy tech just to add another *200 FREAKING KG* leave that stuff for the 5 and 7 series

And in a mk2 Supra no less!
I find it great that foreign testers have the balls to say the truth about the new BMW design. The front looks like a 10 year old designed it. It's not good design, that's the truth. In Germany all car journalists are licking BMWs ass and saying only good things about them. It's sad. A company that has to force car journalists to say good things, even if it is not true, has lost it totally in my oppinion.
I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE ROAD TRIP TO DROP! GO THROTTLE HOUSE TEAM!
So hyped
Since Bangles Bungle, BMW design language has been punishing their buyers. When buying brand new the salesman comforts them by saying the design will be appreciated in the coming decades, while avoiding the fact their BMW is only built to last 6 years.
Oof that 4th gear punch in the beginning...I want to like this car but I just don't, it's just heavy and slow and ugly. I'll buy something else for the cost.
this new M2 doesn't even look that bad, the problem is that the previous version was just so beautiful
Styled by a 5 year old having a bad day,. Great review as usual guys
I bet a lot of that lag can be removed with intake/tune/exhaust... Emissions & tune are likely choking the life outa this car! 🥵
No doubt when the tuners get a hold of that s58 interest in the m2 will really start to gain traction.
Tbh its always the same thing, people hate the new design, whine that the old looked better bla bla , 2 years later they say they love it a and buy one and say best car ever, was the same with the new m3 m4s. The m4 is in my opinion one of the most gorgeus cars i dont understand why people hated in the first place, people hate change thats probably the problem. But pls dont show the m4 in yellow its ugly af tbh, all black is wild though.
Insanely good review. I like the way the M2 looks but can’t accept a screen for a dash in a sporty car - doesn’t look sporty one bit
I’ve been watching these guys for years, and I live in the same area where they film most of their Canadian content. Seeing them grow and expand to America has been oddly bittersweet for me. On the one hand, it was really cool to have local people like them making such amazing content right here in the GTA, so I’m a little sad to see them spend so much time in America. On the other hand, they’re in America because of their deserved success and because it allows them to create even more incredible content for us, I can’t complain! They’re the Top Gear of the modern day imo, and embody all that I love about car culture today. They seem like really great guys and I wish I had the opportunity to meet them back when I was working at a local dealership that would loan them cars. I was working when they did the meet and greet back in the summer :(
Its just tough to film car content in the winter lol. Only so many trucks and SUVs you can do, most of these cars have tires that will try to kill you when its below freezing
Howdy neighbor! (Also from the area)
I felt the same way when Doug moved away from the 215. It was cool recognizing all the places and dealerships and stuff. But content is content, and it's no question I'd rather the content be good.

Like Thomas, I own an OG M2. I LOVE it. If I can't find a 997.2 / 991.1 in the spec & price I like, I will keep it forever. The reason I love it though is because it's rowdy. More specifically, you MUST tame it. To drive it well, you have to control it. As you get better with that control, it becomes a dance, where you're playing with the car and it's playing right back.
I'm in the hunt for my perfect forever ICE car. The one I will keep forever. The only car I've found that has been more playful to drive are the afore mentioned Porsches. Kind of glad to hear this one doesn't hit that high bar, because I have less than 2 years left on my payments!
I just moved from an og M2 to a 997.2, best decision! M2 is great but I don't miss it at all.
@@BrianJohnson-kh7mg Like to hear that! Just need to find a good example in the specs I want. I'll keep trying, but I'm happy to keep the M2 forever, if the right one never comes along. It's such a fun car...and nearly paid off!
Also an OG owner. I absolutely love the low end torque of the N55. I understand that they want to simulate NA torque curve with the S55 and now S58 but for daily driving I take the N55.
The M2 will feel quicker than those particular Porsches in everyday “midrange” driving. The Porsches are naturally aspirated. But either would be a great forever car.
@@stevemiller1626 Agreed! Way I figure it, we're heading toward electric, or at least hybrid. So I want my fun ICE car to be antithetical to those cars. No ICE will beat electric, so I'll get speed out of the electric future. I WON'T get NA sound, light weight, agility, connected feel, etc. So I want my ICE car to exemplify those traits. The Porsche will be slower than the M2 (at least feeling), but it'll better hit those non-electric traits.
Test drove a 991.1 and loved it! The rear engine really gives it a playfulness, like the M2. Just need to find one!
Am I the only one who loves the look of this new gen?

LOL!! Excellent review, very objective and I'm SOOO Happy you call things as they are. I hate reviewers who are positive about everything, gloss over any negatives, just to kiss up to some suits who probably bought them a steak dinner the night before. Stay objective boys.... would love a follow-up Emira video! Despite the price hike, I still think it's a great value. It's still cheaper than Evora was and quite a big step forward from that.
Come on mate, they are knocking the car for being more stable. That's just ridiculous.
Put styling aside, this is quicker in a straight line and around a track.
@@mattyoz0 no, they knocked the car for being less fun. They commended it for being more stable in corners and for getting rid of the axle trample when the wheels are spinning.
M cars were always meant to represent first and foremost, and they're losing their edge in that regard. To be fair all of its competitors are doing the same.
@@xIcarus227 Well you can't have both. I guess track times were more important than going sideways for a video. But i will say, the auto look more lively.
@@mattyoz0 I think you're right, it would be harder to get consistent laptimes in a playful car for sure.
And yeah the auto definitely looks more lively, it definitely seems to be better matched to the peaky power band of the engine. Makes sense too, similar reason to why the Mustang GT is disproportionately faster with the 10-speed auto compared to the manual, the gears are super close.
@@mattyoz0 did you see the turbo lag in the thing? Holy crap!
Another great video. You guys nailed it about styling, too... Hilariously nailed it.
But damn is it ugly
IMO the styling challenges for the M2 likely have to do with the insanely high belt line of the 2 series. The blocky boxy design elements try to work with this challenge.
It’s also a driving challenge, with the new bonnet you feel like you’re piloting a SUV. Maybe carbon buckets reduce the issue. Only test drove with M Sport tri-color seats
Former 6MT OG M2 owner here. The car was simple, fun to drive, well-priced and decent on the track with limited mods (camber plates, springs, brake pads and square rubber). Not so much with this one
This is the kind of professionalism I subscribe for.
Great work!
Throttle House is now in the rarified air of media where I watch until the end just in case there's a little bit of unexpected goodness.
I understand what BMWs have looked like through the 90s and the 2000s but I think that new M.2 is beautiful
This thing looks like the Civic or BRZ designers tried to recreate an M2 from memory.
The 2030 M2 will cost $120k and weigh 5,000 lbs.
But it will be a hybrid and make 955hp
As if that will justify things

Yes. Lithium is a heavy metal!!
@Paul bmw have said they'll never make a 4 cylinder m car
Well done. Very good description of its appearance as only a Canadian can eloquently say….
I’m used to waking up to a new throttle house video, not eating a sandwich to one
Being old enough to remember the "Bangle" BMWs (even though Mr. Bangle already did the ones before and they looked great) this seems like an hommage to "looks bad, but look how brave we are by sticking to it!" from back then. (not just the M2, the 3 and 4 series and all the beaver teeth current BMWs. The 2 series at least isn't that much of an offender in the grill departement, but anything below around the car looks tasteless.) How beautifull the old one looks now! Also the inside picture you showed of the old one looks way more elegant and classy than the rectangle display that needs the mid mounted supportbracket we can see several times in the video.
I don't get why manufacturers place free standing displays for the important functions wihtout any kind of sunglare protection hood.
It just looks bad to me. And like a bad idea with sun comming form the side too.
We need an uncensored version of Thomas’ rant please!!
2 fat 2 be furious😅😂😂😂. Throttle house never seems to disappoint.
Great review as always. I’m feeling disappointed that it didn’t really live up to the hype. And hearing that the ZF is more lively (and sounds like more fun overall) than the 6MT is a dagger to the heart 😢
I have been watching other reviews from other car journalists: - they’re raving about how good the car is,

Its okay, most manuals these days aren’t all that. Save for a few cars like the CTR, Porsche’s, Camaro’s, and a few others.
Most Mustangs come with the crappy MT-82, the GTI and Golf R come with a mid 6MT, Elantra/Veloster N come with an okay 6MT, and most other manufacturers don’t care as much as we would like them too.
That being said, you can make the transmissions better. That is, if you’re okay with modifying them.
I wouldn’t be worried about the manual in the M2. Some bolt ons and a tune as well as a few mods to the transmission and it will be in another league altogether.
what hype? The new 2 series has had so much hate from day one, and it seems more and more deservingly so. I have a very basic "M" 4 banger from the old series. I love everything about it, beyond of course, I'd like another 30 or so HP. When the new 3 series came out I was given one as my rental from BMW when I got my car serviced. I couldn't believe that thing was a BMW. Heavy, non responsive, it was a turd. The new 2 series is just that. Now sure, you can add more power...but if the doors are too heavy, the sound is too dead, and the ride too soft...what's the point?
“If you’ve never driven an M2 before, this will feel as much M2 to you, as any of the other M2s.” Brilliant!
Glad you mention rear seat room, especially compared to the F22/F87. One of the huge benefits of the last 2-series coupe being on a 1-series platform is the rear seats really are fine for anyone shorter than 5'10". People like to bitch about coupes having no rear seat room, but that bubbly roofline (reminiscent of the E30) on the F22 wasn't there for nothing. I haven't done the 60lb.-saving rear seat delete on my M240i because I really do have people in the back often enough to justify keeping them. Making the G22/G87 rear seats smaller, just because it has an exclusive variant of CLAR not shared by a 4-door, was a bit shortsighted. If you're going to make the rear seats useless, why not remove them entirely for a parcel shelf?
Its definitely got a unique look to it, and maybe a spicy tune could amp it up to that missing notch, but damn was the m2 always that expensive? 😅
I think the last gen was starting just a hair north of 50, so this isn't that big a price jump given inflation sadly. But more power never fixes weight. It just masks it a bit.
Unique look ... That's what my mom used to tell me so I wouldn't be as depressed
The best thing about this new m2 is how confident it makes me feel in my f30 328i. Never have I not wanted to upgrade my car more than I do now!
Tell us you’re poor without telling us you’re poor - the cope comment.
@@johnsullivan8673 In some senses maybe. I did sell one of my cars to buy the 328, but that was mostly because the Mrs didn't like the idea of having five cars.
The car I actually want is a z4 e89, but atm I need rear seats and don't want to get rid of my other cars.
So yeah. poor me.
@@adifferentangle7064 why even buy a peasant mobile 328? I can understand some people not wanting the F80 at launch but the F30 328? What does it offer over the 335 besides a cheaper sticker and slightly lower curb weight?
@@johnsullivan8673 Less maintenance issues over the 5 years I'll be owning it. Slightly less running costs.
And easier to guarantee it wasn't thrashed by a dickhead in a previous life.
Oh and it's handling is a bit better, which suits the roads I drive.
For daily driving I think it was a better choice tbh.
The most honest review you will find on the new M2 which is why I love Throttle House. What a shame BMW now make two M4s and no offer a M2. Not surprisingly BMW managed to make this look so fugly. Very sad to hear they dialed out the fun too. The last great driving BMW is no more. Officially not interested in any new BMWs.
Same here.
Just because someone fits your uniformed opinion doesn’t mean they’re more „honest“ than others.
Matt on carwow for example also said that it is a little bit less fun to drive than the old M2 but that also means that it’s better as a daily driver than the old one. Everything has pros and cons. But in this review they only talked about the cons. Which is disappointing really.
I haven't seen a car this beautiful since the Pontiac Aztek! Thank you;)
looool
As much as I still prefer an F87, the G87 is not that bad looking especially compared to the G80/G82.
I had the previous gen 2er and I do agree with the crooked seats though. My right knee would be on a slight bend even in full throttle while my left knee is fully stretched straight on the dead pedal.
Thanks for being smart the G87 is godlike and unfortunately the automatic is the way to go
The N55 is always deserving of being that baseline where the real M engines start, especially for the S55. I’d want one in Toronto Red too
i've had 2 m2's, m235i, and now an x3m. i can say the s58 has a HUGE set of turbos and while it gives huge tuning overhead, it makes the power peaky. in one way, that's good because it'll feel a bit more NA in the way the power builds, but the punchy mid rpm wall of torque is something i miss. the b58 doesn't have that problem. (i also had a 340i) that said, even on the n55 has the torque flattening out in the factory tune. tune the n55 and it feels like the torque doubles lol. the s58 gains a little torque with tuning and it helps (but gains a ton on the top)
I'm not sure whether I'd call this peaky powerband a 'problem', if anything it feels like they deliberately designed the engine this way.
This M2 produces 550Nm starting with 2650RPM, whereas a B58 with an intake, exhaust and tune will make comparable power numbers with torque close to 600Nm - a torque figure which starts way lower down at around 1600RPM by the way.
I think BMW designed the S58 this way on purpose, so it feels more old school rev-happy. I'm nothing more than a couch mechanic though, so maybe my math is completely ignorant.
Except tuning your BMW now makes the Bavarians mad. The new B58 ECU's from the Supra have to be sent to Finland to be cloned which costs a tremendous amount of money just to be able to get on the dyno.
@@xIcarus227 - I agree. The 4th gear pull reminded me of my E60 M5 instead of my current M235i. The M5 had to be worked hard and that’s what you want an M car to be.
I like the peaky power band now, so long as they've improved the traction control. it's always been the worst of the German cars and in a turbo car it's so bad. cuts throttle, dumps boost, you bog, after a second or two of no throttle, it returns, but now you're building boost again, and it just murders performance in a straight line. I hear the newest m cars all have a much improved system, so let's hope that's truly the case. I'll miss the punchy torque, but these would probably wake up with a tune in the mid range torque department, though probably not a good idea for the 3 pedal cars lol
I honestly think worthless back seats are worse than no backseats. I would rather have the cool factor of 2 seater if I don`t use the back seats anyways.
Bad take
@@HondaEnjoyer12 Back seats that you can't use are as bad as fake exhaust.
And no extra usability? As a Miata owner I’ll tell you you’re wrong.
Road trip in a Westmoreland built VW Rabbit and...a Subaru XT? My headlight memory says yes - cannot WAIT for that.
"Dark horse is lighter" Huh? Dark horse official base model curb weight is 3920 lbs by Ford. Test spec weight might be higher. No way is it lighter than the M2.
"Please refuel" 😂
You guys are awesome!! Loved the beeped out comments regarding the styling. Classic!
Always fun to watch you guys review a car! While I can get behind the new style interiors of BMW, the outside of this car is a huge turn off for me. Here in the Netherlands (due to purchase tax based on CO2) this starts at ~115,000 euro...ouch. That makes it more expensive than the 240i (at ~76,000 euro), 340i (at ~89,000 euro) and 540i (at 82,000 euro). I like a small coupe but I wouldn't ever consider it in the context of Dutch pricing. I can't imagine it's ~39,000 euro better than a 240i or any of the other cars with the B58 engine.
"Sweet, a Pontiac!"
I take the M2 comp over this any day of the week still
Can’t remember a car review that had me ROFL 🤣. Great job guys keep the content flowing
