    My first elementary school has a Simplex 4010 system. It was installed around the mid-2000s, tied into the school's original Simplex 4208 panel from 1974 (the 4010 was replacing a 4004 installed in 1998, which in turn replaced a Simplex 4002 installed in the late 80s or early 90s for added-on duct detectors.) The 4010 was for main controls, the duct detectors, signal coding and the modular building, while the 4208 was used for the existing pull stations, heat sensors and an old ionization smoke detector. They had Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights, but they used 120-VAC light plates for some reason, and while the NACs on the 4010 would code the signals (Slow March Time), they had to run through the 4208 to provide the AC power for the lights (while the horns were 24-VDC.) But in early 2015, the Simplex 4208 panel started failing (sometimes the signal circuits wouldn't work in a certain zone, or the system would randomly go into alarm), so during the February break they gutted the 4208, wired everything into the 4010, replaced the old 4208 battery cabinet with a couple of EST booster power panels, and replaced all alarm signals with boring SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes (they even replaced the Wheelock MT-24-LSMs in the modular with Advances!) But at least my city's school district considers faulty/malfunctioning fire alarm systems a top priority on their agendas!

    We are preparing to demo a suite at our business that has 13 smoke detectors, 7 strobes and 2 pull stations. What are your recommendations for disabling the points and listed on our print out of the points list names for these devices.? Post disabling the points, you mentioned the wires are still live. What should we do with the devices during the construction ?

    • @coastlinecruiser8429
      @coastlinecruiser8429 3 года назад

      As a former tech I would recommend taping off the smoke and heat detectors with tape so to not allow dust and debree to enter the "detecting chambers" and just let them hang by their wires out of the way, same with pulls and strobes, just make sure to write with a sharpie on the masking tape on the devices that they are "live". This way you can continue to demo out where needed with a system still online (connected to the monitoring center) until you can get a tech onsite to either relocate the devices, re install after a remodel, or remove them from the system itself (remove from programming and them physically remove the devices) if you are completely doing a full gut down to the studs and need to rip the system out so a fresh one can be installed after the construction is completed, you want to call your monitoring company and cancel the service for that control panel/system that you need removed so that no "trouble calls" come in to the monitoring center due to the phone lines on the panel becoming disconnected and the monitoring center no longer having contact with a system that does not exist anymore.

      This is only accessible through the 4010 PC programmer. The PC Programmer requires a security key from Simplex which you only have when you complete the training class.

    You could touch both battery terminals with your hand and nothing would happen. 24V isn't enough voltage to break/arc through your skin.

      Judging by the audible tones and knowing it's a 4 digit passcode... it seems he changed the first digit 3 times and then skipped 3 times... so I'd say the level 3 passcode is 3000.
